Is South Dakota good?
South Dakota can soak part of the damage meant for the main fleet and heal some of it back, helping keep frontline allies alive longer. Her anti-air ranks among the best of any battleship, and Focused Fire doubles main-gun damage, so a lucky proc can strip a huge chunk of a boss's HP.
The redirect skill only holds for about 8 seconds out of a 30-second cycle, though, so its timing rarely lines up with enemy air attacks in PvP.

Background
South Dakota's darker skin tone and overall Native American design can be attributed to the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, which call the state of South Dakota their home.
All 3 of South Dakota's 16/406mm gun turrets can be seen around her, common of her class of ship, of which she is the namesake.
Although quite hard to read, the crest on her left shield reads, "South Dakota - The Mount Rushmore State" and has the South Dakota seal blazoned on the shield.
