The Atom

The Atom is a Legendary character in DC: Dark Legion. The Atom's role is Warrior. Faction: Justice League, Teen Titans.

The Atom plays as an all-or-nothing pick built entirely around Shockwave & Awe, a massive one-time Physical burst that stuns the whole enemy team. Being Legendary he stars up fast, but if he dies before charging that Ultimate, or somehow never dies at all, the slot is wasted, and once it fires he's removed from the fight for the rest of the battle, leaving the squad down a member.

We rate him D: he's a decent niche pick for PvE modes like Training Simulator, where the player already has an advantage, but too much of a liability in even PvP matchups, and he offers no faction bonus to either Justice League or Teen Titans.

Ray Palmer was a graduate student in physics at Ivy University when he discovered a white dwarf star fragment that had fallen to Earth.

Testing a theory, Ray ground a lens from the fragment and focused ultraviolet light through it to shrink objects to a tiny fraction of their size.

But the items were unstable and exploded soon after.

Days later, Ray and others were trapped in a cave-in.

Ray used the lens to shrink himself, thinking he'd have time to slip through small openings and save the others before he exploded.

Surprisingly, he didn't explode, even after using the lens to return to normal size.

He developed tech to control his mass as well as his size.

Theorizing a unique genetic quirk (the metagene) let him survive the process, Ray adopted the heroic identity of The Atom.

The Atom battled criminals, aliens, and other extranormal threats, at times working with the CIA.

The luck-manipulating villain Amos Fortune tried to use the Atom in a plot against the Justice League, but The Atom helped thwart the plan and became one of the earliest non-founding heroes to join the team.

The Atom also had several adventures involving time travel, including facing the villain Chronos and helping his colleague Professor Hyatt conduct experiments with the Time Pool, a tiny portal that provided access to other eras.

The Atom frequently teamed up with Hawkman and Hawkgirl, becoming good friends.

He also met the Golden Age Atom on a few occasions.

Ray became one of the first members of the Justice League to marry when his longtime girlfriend, lawyer Jean Loring, accepted his proposal.

After years of Ray and Jean growing apart due to him being on mission as The Atom and her being busy with work, Jean feel in love with a work colleague, Paul Hoben.

Before they could take steps to save their marriage, a research flight Ray was on in the Amazon jungle crashed.

Ray was presumed dead, but in reality, he had been trapped at a height of six inches (the size he shrank to trying to survive the crash) due to an electric jolt.

Ray was captured by tiny aliens, the Katarthans, who'd been trapped on Earth.

Ray allied with a resistance force against the cruel leader and developed romantic feelings for Princess Laethwen.

In a final battle for the palace, an ancient star-drive was activated and, because it was powered by a white dwarf star fragment, caused Ray to grow to his normal size.
