Biography

Early Life

Saya was born as the eldest daughter in one of the three renowned exorcist families.

Initially, she received much attention, but that changed when it was discovered that she possessed almost no spiritual energy.

The family's focus soon shifted to her younger sister, Miya, who was born with an abundance of spiritual power.

Despite the family's indifference towards her, Saya and Miya remained close, with Miya being the only one who showed Saya any affection.

Feeling like a burden to her family, Saya eventually ran away.

While scavenging for food one day, Saya encountered a yokai that nearly killed her.

However, a mysterious warrior appeared and slew the yokai, saving Saya's life.

Deeply impressed, Saya begged the warrior to train her.

The warrior, who was actually Erina, agreed reluctantly but soon realized that Saya had potential.

After a brief period of training, Erina returned to the Demon World, leaving Saya with a pair of earrings as a gift.

Armed with her newly acquired swordsmanship skills, Saya began taking on exorcism requests.

Confrontation with Nekomata

It is unclear whether Saya learned about the "Dark Immortals" from her family or if she discovered them on her own after going rogue.

Regardless, she became aware of rumors about their suspicious activities.

Having spent much of her time eradicating yokai, Saya decided to make it her mission to destroy this organization.

One day, while wandering from village to village, she accepted another exorcism request.

The village had recently been terrorized by a strange yokai that disguised itself as a cat, and an exorcist had already been wounded in a battle with it.

The village chief appointed Saya to eliminate the threat.

Late at night, Saya arrived just in time to witness a battle between two cat-like yokai.

She intervened to save Mikke, a Bakeneko who was wounded by Nekomata.

Surprised by Saya's lack of spiritual energy, Nekomata questioned why the village chief hadn’t sent Miya instead.

He attempted to use a jade ornament to deprive Saya of her magic, but she explained that it was futile since she relied purely on physical strength.

Saya noted that he must be a minion of the "Dark Immortals." During the ensuing fight, Saya's surprise attack caused Nekomata to drop an unsheathed sword, Chisui, which he intended to use to kill Mikke.

Mikke quickly grabbed the sword and, with a single slash, killed Nekomata before fainting.

Although Saya was surprised to discover a second yokai on the scene, she decided to spare Mikke and leave Chusiu with her, since retrieving it wasn't part of her mission.

Investigating the Leads

Saya continued her investigation and, during this time, received a telegram from the head of the family inviting her back home—an invitation that was highly unlikely given her estrangement.

The village was empty and overrun with yokai when she arrived.

Instead of her family, Saya encountered The Knight.

She introduced herself as a member of the exorcist family and showed the telegram.

The Knight explained that they had arrived together with Miya, who had been taken by Red Yaksha.

As soon as she heard this, Saya was determined to rescue her sister.

She briefly mentioned that Red Yaksha possessed one of the Dark Immortals' four articles, leaving further explanations for later.

Saya asked the Knight for help, as the enemies outnumbered her.

The two arrived just in time to witness Red Yaksha forcibly unsealing one of the three seals required to resurrect the Dark Immortal, using Miya's spiritual energy.

Saya clashed swords with Red Yaksha, who accused her of killing many yokai, including his little sister.

Red Yaksha, empowered by the "Avenger's Cursed Sword," engaged in a fierce battle with Saya.

After an intense fight, Saya and the Knight emerged victorious.

Saya delivered the final blow, destroying both Red Yaksha and the artifact.

As Red Yaksha dissipated, he vowed to return once the Dark Immortal was resurrected.

Saya thanked the Knight and assured them that her family would surely give them a decent welcome once they woke up.

She noted that all the exorcist families must have been keeping an eye on the "Dark Immortals," yet, for some reason, they were not taking action against them—evident by the yokai attack on this village.

Saya expressed her frustration at how bold the yokai were becoming and then left.
