Appearance

Ruby is a small-statured Umamusume that gives off an incredibly elegant air to her, almost resembling a doll.

She has dark brown hair with blunt bangs, and framing her face are two drill-shaped side bangs.

Her hair reaches down to her back, and she has several braids adorning her hair — two on the top of her head, and one flowing down the side of her hair tied together with a ruby.

On her left ear, she wears an arrangement of roses, two in white, and one large rose in pink.

The accessory has a string of pearls connected to either end.

On the back of her head, she wears a large bow with elaborate gold decorations.

Her race outfit consists of a simple dark purple Victorian-style dress.

The long sleeves are puffed at the top, and decorated with gold decor, and a diamond-shaped ruby in the center.

The cuffs of her dress have two distinct gold lines around the perimeter.

The collar of her dress is white and frilled, and she wears a red ascot tie around it.

The skirt of her dress is split down the middle, either side connected by strings of small pearls, with golden diamonds on either side.

Her dresses underskirt consists of three layers, a white one with floral decor, a yellow frilled skirt with a red line around the perimeter, and another layer of plain white frills.

On her legs, she wears two white leggings, and two black buckled shoes, adorned with roses as the buckles.

K.S.Miracle: Roommate.

IRL: Served (by fans) as the "third wheel", they fought against each other on Miracle's last three races.

Secret No.1: Her dog Sapphy is said to be "like THE cutest no cap."

The dog's name is a reference of a fictional supposed foal of Helios and Ruby, First Sapphie that appeared in Koei Tecmo's Winning Post video game series.

While they never mated, one of Helios' fillies was named after the fictional horse.

Daiichi Ruby comes from the Splendid Clan.

In real life, it means a British-bred broodmare Mairie's mare line, which in Japan covers Itto, Hagino Top Lady, and Daiichi Ruby.

Daiichi Ruby (ダイイチルビー, Daiichi Rubī) was a racehorse in the early 1990s.

She was a scion of the "Splendid Clan", and won two colt-filly mixed G1s for the first time.

The "Splendid Clan (華麗なる一族, Karei naru Ichizoku)" means a British-bred broodmare Mairie's mare line.

That family bore numerous major race winners.

The name was coined by a poet Naoto Shima, after a novel that Toyoko Yamazaki wrote in 1973.

Mairie's great-granddaughter Itto won Takamatsunomiya Hai and Swan Stakes, Itto's daughter Hagino Top Lady won the Double Crown — Oka Sho and Queen Elizabeth II Cup.

Daiichi Ruby is Hagino Top Lady's daughter.

She was known for "romances" with Daitaku Helios and K.S.Miracle.

Daitaku Helios often ran well when Daiichi Ruby was at the same race.

Fans started joking that Helios "loved" Ruby and wanted to show off.

Those "romances" became popular due to Miho Yoshida's manga, Breezing a Furlong Theater.

In the horseracing game series Winning Post by Koei Tecmo, a fictional horse named First Sapphie appears as their supposed foal.

In real life, Helios never mated with Ruby.

However one of Helios' daughters (the one out of K.F.Winner (JPN)) was named First Sapphie after the fictional foal.

In Umamusume, this is further referenced through the name of Ruby's pet dog.

At the 1991 Sprinters Stakes, which Daiichi Ruby won, K.S.

Miracle fractured his leg and was subsequently euthanized.

Ruby was unable to win any further races, leading some fans to say she lost her motivation because of his death.

Usually, it takes up to an hour for a foal to stand after birth.

Daiichi Ruby was able to stand in just 15 minutes.

She's the daughter of a "Noble Family" whose name is well-known around the world.

She always tries to behave in a noble manner, befitting of her family name, and her solemn words and actions often give the impression of being somewhat unapproachable.

In the intro to Daitaku Helios' career ingame, she vents to Mejiro Palmer about a rejection from Ruby.

Two years before this career was released, a variation of this exact same scene appeared in the first episode of season two of the anime.

This episode aired before Ruby, the "cruel young lady" in question, was even introduced to the series.

Daiichi Ruby's dog, Sapphy, appears to be based on First Sapphy, a fan-made foal between the real-life Daitaku Helios and Daiichi Ruby featured in the horse racing simulator series Winning Post.

Incidentally, this game also contains a horse named Second Sapphy, a fan-made foal between Daitaku Yamato (a real son of Helios) and Daiichi Cigar (a real daughter of Ruby)

Daitaku Helios' real-life last crop was not born to Daiichi Ruby but was named First Sapphy in reference to this fan-made horse.

Despite a pedigree that would have made her an incredible turf sprinter, she did not register with the JRA, debuted on dirt, and ran 141 local dirt races with a race record of 2-4-5-130.

She is able to wake up early without an alarm clock.

Her favorite parasol was a gift from her mother.

Her family being famous and distinguished is a reference to how she had a famous pedigree in real life, with Tosho Boy and Hagino Top Lady as her sire and dam.
