Background
"Exploring the Possibility of Reversing Necromancy Based on the Similarities and Differences Between the Conversion Mechanisms of Alchemy and Necromancy" Author: Anonymous Abstract: At its core, alchemy explores the laws of material and energy transformation, enabling material conversion under specific conditions. The academic community has long regarded necromancy as a specialized discipline distinct from alchemy. However, recent re-examinations of ancient magical texts and ruins suggest that the two may not be entirely independent. In fact, necromancy shares many commonalities with the theories of human alchemy documented in literature from a millennium ago. This paper examines a case study of a living subject converted into a Graveborn through necromancy, conducting a preliminary investigation into the similarities and differences between the conversion mechanisms of necromancy and alchemy. The results indicate that the principles governing alchemy and necromancy are highly similar, differing primarily in targets and prerequisite conditions. Given that certain alchemical reactions have been proven capable of restoring their products to their original forms, this paper proposes that by altering specific steps of the process, necromancy could potentially be reversed, thereby eliminating its effects on the subject. Main Text: ...
August 3, Rain The paper was accepted quickly. That was to be expected, considering this is currently the only known case of a living person being converted into a Graveborn. Becoming a Graveborn hasn't been as difficult to adapt to as I expected. In fact, wielding necromantic power allows me to accomplish much more. Aside from some changes to my internal organ functions, I remain virtually the same as I was in life. If only I could completely alter my appearance and physique, I wouldn't have to skulk around Oakenfell. In theory, necromantic power is potent enough to cause significant physiological changes, and completely altering one's appearance is not impossible. So why didn't the magic circle trigger any such changes? Perhaps I can use this question as a starting point to research how to reverse necromancy.
October 15, Sunny The paper has been published, and Union Magazine even put the title on the cover. It's just a pity that I couldn't publish it under my real name, which halves the joy... Oh well, I didn't do this research just to publish papers anyway. A letter from the Archaeological Society? It turns out the Society still occasionally receives letters and money from my family. I suppose it's time I wrote back. It's normal for me not to visit, given I'm out doing research all year round. The real trouble is my lack of published papers lately. The elders in my family love buying up all the magazines that feature my articles. Over time, they'll inevitably get suspicious... I'll just say I'm conducting classified research, they don't understand these things anyway. Who knows, maybe those letters will stop coming in a few years...
October 22, Cloudy "Research for limited circulation only"? Sure enough, the Society still chooses to restrict this kind of research. To corroborate the commonalities between alchemy and necromancy, I cited literature on human alchemy and provided a theoretical experimental model. Now that the paper has been pulled from public circulation, it's highly likely that someone used the model to conduct illicit experiments, and they most likely failed. There are always those who lack self-restraint, using academic research as an excuse to satisfy their selfish desires while disregarding ethics and consequences. Such studies aren't entirely meaningless, but research built on massive harm inevitably lacks long-term value and can even hinder the progress of conventional research. It's also difficult to completely eradicate such incidents. Humanity's damned curiosity will always try to pry open every black box, and as for whether there's treasure or a demon inside, who can say for sure? Then again, I have no right to say such things. Reason helped me hold back my curiosity, but I must admit, when the black box was opened, I was indeed looking forward to the results. It seems I am nothing more than a hypocrite. ... Valeri said this is normal, a common flaw among researchers. That boy occasionally says astonishing things, showing a maturity far beyond his years.
October 24, Overcast It's a bit bare here, but it will suffice as a research lab. It's quite convenient that Graveborn don't need to sleep or eat, but why do I still feel so exhausted? Back inside the Empire, I thought it was the influence of the Divine Light, but now that I've moved into Graveborn territory, why's it still happening? I can't be a special case... Wait, maybe I really am a special case! I was converted directly from a living state into a Graveborn, which is fundamentally different from the usual conversion process of the dead. That said, I shouldn't apply conventional thinking. If I can ascertain the essence of the conversion, perhaps I can undergo a secondary conversion through another magic circle to restore my original form. I'll try it right now!
November 7, Overcast Failure number ten. I was prepared for difficulties with the experiment, but I didn't expect to have nothing to show by this point. Moreover, I didn't expect that after so many years of research, I still haven't gotten used to this sense of frustration. As a scholar, this feels like somewhat of a failure. My mentor once said that if you fail multiple times, you need to review and summarize the commonalities of those failures, then re-examine your current experimental methods and conditions. Let me check my previous records... What on earth are you writing down?! This was my own oversight. I was so immersed in my necromancy research that I completely forgot to check my enchanted notebook. Stop! Stop recording! Not just my words, but even my mental activities are being recorded?! Research suspended! I need to adj...
November 14 Learning from my previous mistake, I've restricted the enchanted notebook's permissions. At the very least, it shouldn't record my mental activities. There are some thoughts that even I don't want to see again, so let them remain buried in the depths of my mind. A diary is a fine medium in itself, capable of promptly recording one's current mood and thoughts. When reviewing it, perhaps new research topics can be discovered. My research on necromancy has come to a temporary halt. Obsessing over a single topic can easily narrow one's vision. Since I've just resolved the issue with the enchanted notebook's scope of recording, I might as well conduct further research on enchantments, such as creating a means of transportation to facilitate expeditions to ruins...

Skills
4
Research FindingsUltimateCooldown 1.8sPassive: Greisman does not use normal attacks. Instead, every 1.8s, he performs an Experimental Observation on the enemy hero with the highest initial Attack Rating, prioritizing heroes that are not currently Deciphered. Once an enemy hero is targeted by Experimental Observation 3 times, they become Deciphered, causing the allied hero directly opposite them to inflict 70% more critical strike damage and health loss on the Deciphered enemy. Additionally, Deciphered enemy heroes lose 100 Energy each time they take damage. Active: Greisman wields his Enchanted Quill and Research Notes, projecting his notes onto the battlefield to draw a magic circle and deal 4 strikes of damage equal to 450% of his Attack Rating to all enemies. When this skill damages a Deciphered enemy hero, it ignores their shields, and the damage dealt will not be less than 450% of Greisman's Attack Rating.
- Level 81Each time Greisman performs an Experimental Observation on an enemy hero that is not currently Deciphered, he reduces their attributes sequentially: Crit Damage Resistance, Tenacity, and then Buffer. Each reduction will be equal to 60% of the difference between Greisman's Proficiency and the enemy hero's Dissolve. Each attribute reduction will be recorded in Greisman's Research Notes.
- Level 161Enemy heroes in the Deciphered state will take 80% more damage from allied summons.
Follow-Up ExperimentPassiveUnlocks at level 11Passive: Each time Greisman performs an Experimental Observation, his Enchanted Quill and Research Notes will fire magic bolts at the observed enemy hero, dealing damage equal to 220% of Greisman's Attack Rating.
- Level 21Magic bolt damage is increased to 260% of Greisman's Attack Rating.
- Level 101For every Deciphered enemy hero on the battlefield, magic bolts will bounce 1 extra time.
- Level 181Magic bolts deal 60% more damage to Deciphered enemy heroes, and are guaranteed to crit.
Academic SymposiumSkillCooldown 9s · Unlocks at level 41Greisman pilots his Arcane Wheelchair and uses his Enchanted Quill and Research Notes to create a magic circle that deals damage equal to 270% of Greisman's Attack Rating to enemy units in range, while also knocking them into the air. Greisman then converts 70% of each of the attributes recorded in his Research Notes into the corresponding attributes: Crit Damage Amplification, Insight, and Erosion, which are granted as buffs for 5s to Greisman as well as allied heroes in range of the magic circle.
- Level 121The buff duration is increased to 7s.
- Level 201For every Deciphered enemy hero on the battlefield, the percentage of attributes converted is increased by 8%.
- Engraving 30All allied summons on the battlefield will also receive the attribute buffs and will gain immunity to controls for the same duration.
Afternoon Tea BreakSkillCooldown 15s · Unlocks at level 61Greisman drinks tea, recovering health equal to 500% of his Attack Rating and gaining immunity to controls for 6s.
- Level 141While the control immunity is active, Greisman also gains 50 points of Haste.
- Level 221The control immunity duration is increased to 9s.
- Engraving 60For every Deciphered enemy hero on the battlefield, Greisman gains an extra 8 points of Haste.
Signature item
Greisman's first invention created with Graveborn power, it can be controlled by speech or thought. It records text automatically, and it can even quickly conjure magic circles and runes, making it more useful to Greisman than even his wheelchair.
- UnlockedEnemy heroes in the Deciphered state deal 60% less damage and have their Energy Recovery Rate reduced by 60 points.
- +10The amount of attributes reduced per Experimental Observation is increased to 75% of the difference between Greisman's Proficiency and the observed enemy hero's Dissolve.
- +20When Greisman uses the Research Findings skill actively, if the current Experimental Observation target is not already Deciphered, the remaining number of required observations is immediately applied, applying Deciphered directly.
- +30Each time a Deciphered enemy hero deals final damage to Greisman or an allied summon, that damage is capped at 40% of the enemy hero's Attack Rating.
- +40Each time a Deciphered enemy hero takes damage from an allied summon or Follow-Up Experiment, future damage to that hero from both of these sources is increased by 8% (capped at a max increase of 80%).
