Cainan was born beneath the crystal light of the upper city, where every child of the Seraphim was taught to lift their eyes toward order.

The bells of Altaris marked their days; the Council shaped their purpose.

To be winged was to be chosen. To serve was to be holy.

To Cainan. holiness had always worn his father's face.

Gideon was a man beloved by the Council, and burdened by it.

To the Seraphim, he was a Vanguard—a blade lifted faithfully against the void.

To Cainan, he was something quieter. a steady hand guiding his own, teaching him how to carry both sword and silence.

He spoke little of glory, often of resolve.

"Strength is not in the blade," Gideon would tell him.

"It is in what you refuse to let the world take from you."

Cainan carried those words like scripture.

Yet, in his final years, his father's light began to dim.

At dusk, Cainan would find him seated at the edge of the city, his gaze fixed not toward the heavens, but down below, to Tya, as though listening for some truth buried beneath the clouds.

As their legs dangled into the atmosphere, Gideon never named what troubled him.

He only pressed his hand to his son's shoulder and reminded him that faith was strangest when tested.

Then, in an instant, he was gone. Lost in a battle against a demonic host so large, many deemed it a futile effort.

The Council called it sacrifice. His body was returned, cold.

A few words were offered, his name was carved into stone, and his memory was folded neatly into ceremony.

Altaris moved on as though grief itself could be ordered into silence.

Cainan devoted himself to the path his father had walked, honing his sorrow into discipline.

The Flame Altar awaited him—the sacred fire through which the worthy were chosen, the same fire his father had once approached with reverence.

To ascend was no longer an honor. It was an answer.

But grief leaves the heart's doors unguarded.

She came first in dreams. A woman clothed In dusk, her voice softer than confession, her presence neither divine nor profane.

Jezebelle did not tempt him with promises.

She listened. She let his anger breathe.

She gathered each unspoken fear and returned it to him sharpened to a point.

Only once did she offer him truth.

"Your father did not fear death," she whispered.

"He feared what he discovered."

Now, Cainan stands at the edge of the sacred flame, his father's shadow at his back and Jezebelle's words beneath his skin.

If the Council names him worthy, he will ascend.

If they do not—the Altar will judge for itself.

Shadow of the Flame

He stepped into the Altar, prepared to surrender all that he was.

Yet where blessings should have descended, only agony was delivered.

Cainan's flesh was seared, his bones and wings lit aflame.

Rejected! Condemned... Yet in the silence beneath the heaven's gate, darker forces took root—kindled not by grace, but by wrath, fury, and pain.

It was Jezebelle who reached into the fire, drawing him out.

In his long shadow of suffering, she became the stillness within him, her touch easing the fire that blazed beneath his very skin.

What began as mercy unfurled into the one fire he would never wish extinguished.

And so he burns with both wrath and devotion.

His wings are no heavenly gift, but the remnant of all he endured—and all she restored.

If the Altar would not claim him, he would belong instead to the one who pulled him from its maw.
