Before the tectonic plates beneath Tya had finished warring to make up her shores and valleys, mountains and deserts, there was a being that warred with the continent itself.

The Phoenix acted not out of malice, nor mercy, but instead something far less negotiable: She had no will of her own, and for that reason, she was dangerous.

Forests reduced to ash would bloom again in her passing.

Empires collapsed, and something new would take their place.

To her, destruction and renewal were not opposites.

They were the same sun, seen from different sides.

Humanity could not reason with a force that did not choose, and in time the Phoenix understood innately that should her reign continue unchecked, there would be no world for her destruction to blossom within.

And so she chose dormancy, tearing her primordial essence free in a self-exile and sealing it within a crystalline vessel.

With her final words, she vowed to return to her blazing form once the land had recovered, that she might ignite it once more.

The vessel was cast into the depths of Tya's mantle, and there it slept for millennia.

But in the age of the Tides, a man came searching.

Oren had fought, bled, and bore the frozen curse of his greatest foe.

His concern was now simple: Survival. His affliction had hollowed him from the inside, filling his blood with a coldness not of this world.

So, when whispers reached him of a primordial flame buried deep below, he followed.

Oren found the vessel, and did not hesitate.

Fire met with frost. Something ancient pressed against something human—and neither yielded.

Though her essence was reignited at last, the sky still felt small to Janus, for she had woken prematurely and against her will.

No wings. No endless chorus. Only breath.

Only weight. And a heartbeat that was not entirely her own.

It is true her fire still burns—but not freely.

It coils within Oren, rising with him, dimming with him.

Neither whole. Neither separate.

The world once feared what she was, but they never accounted for what she might become—or whose soul she might be bound to.

Janus remembers the sky. She remembers the silence of inevitability.

Now she must navigate Tya as one of its many children.

What's more, for the first time—she wills.

No longer a creature of instinctual ruin, her path has been granted choice.

If the world burns again, it will not be because it must.

It will be because she chooses.
