Background
"Hear the chains? Best pray they hold." —Jailer
To dare gaze upon him now, you'd not know he was a captain of the Star Piercers, a warrior of discipline and steel.
But discipline would serve no purpose in Volka's domain, and steel melts fast within the vats...
Betrayed, broken, and unmade, he did not die—he became the Shackled Horror.
After the splintering of her vampire clan and their endless cycles of betrayal, Volka sought inspiration elsewhere.
Her mind turned to the monstrosity known as Abomination, a flesh-crafted horror of old.
She coveted a creation of equal magnitude, a soldier of unearthly strength that would answer to her alone.
Within the depths of her fortress, she devised her own method of reshaping life: Acid baths.
For her first subject, she would cull from the Star Piercers, a loosely-bound lot with idealistic aims—a perfect target for infiltration.
Carefully, she lured Vorn into her web with the help of Esme, a trusted operative within the Star Piercers, who played her role of manipulation masterfully, feeding him false orders, then setting up the trap.
Vorn's mission had been direct, if not simple: infiltrate a key fortress belonging to the Nightmare Council, gather intel on their experiments, and return to report.
Except the last part wasn't true.
Indeed, the moment his unit breached the stronghold, their fates were already sealed.
Captured and bound, Vorn's men were slaughtered unceremoniously.
But for him, Volka had something far more special in mind.
The vats, brimming with volatile corruption, awaited their offering.
The acid did not simply dissolve—it reshaped, remade, transformed.
His body convulsed, his flesh blackened and warped, his very essence twisted into something monstrous.
As days stretched into an endless cycle of agony beyond reckoning, his mind began to slip, his past unraveling like a spool.
Yet, Volka's experiment ended fruitless.
Unlike Abomination, a creature forged from pure hatred and destruction, Vorn's spirit refused to succumb.
Though shattered, fragments of his former self remained, his steeled convictions resisted her in cold defiance.
Violently vexed, she would deem him useless, a failed undertaking, and cast him into a pit beneath the fortress to rot.
When the Star Piercers finally mounted their rescue, they did not find the captain they had once known.
Rather, what emerged from the ruins was a hulking obscenity, his body a fusion of corrupted flesh and acidic decay.
Recognizing his uncontrollable power, the Piercers held council with other factions, and they set out to forge heavy chains imbued with divine magic to bind him.
Though Vorn could no longer be trusted, he was not rendered fully useless, either— a monstrosity to be unleashed when all else failed.
Now shackled and seething, Vorn is a dark tool forged in agony, wielded by the Star Piercers when their needs are most dire.
They use him, they bind him, but they cannot save him, and deep within, beneath the corruption and horror, a question still lingers in his fractured mind: Is there any redemption for a man who has become a living curse?
Whenever the air carries an expired sweetness mixed with the stench of dirt, accompanied by wheezing laughter and heavy breathing, beware: it is the specter known as "The Candy Man" peddling his "delicacies" along the streets.
His tattered ice cream parlor uniform is soaked in cheap cream, emitting a sour reek like rotting flesh.
The ice cream scoops in his hands have long since spoiled; the dark purple strawberry syrup hangs in sticky, long strands, and grayish-white mold spots spread wildly across the chocolate scoops.
"Care for a scoop of ice cream? It is a joy that never expires." His mouth, twisted like melting cream, reveals yellowed teeth with half a frozen, bruised knuckle still stuck between them.
For a child blinded by greed, this is not just a rotten free cone—it is a one-way ticket to a dark dimension, reeking of a nauseating sweetness.
