After a glimpse of the pure elemental power contained inside the energy fusions, some greedy wizards attempted to claim this force for themselves.

A wizard named Gladion conducted a dangerous experiment by himself, ignoring the White Tower's ban and others' dissuasion.

He summoned a powerful water elemental fusion, intending to absorb the water's power from it in a magic trap.

Then the accident happened. The water elemental immediately vibrated in the magic trap which damaged the trap and caused it to reverse.

Gladion was dragged into the trap and merged with the water elemental, turning himself into a half-elemental—the Vortex.

The memories of Gladion, a human distraction with too many strong emotions, haunt the Vortex's newborn soul, causing the pure Vortex immense pain.

The Vortex is now wandering the cold lands of the North, where the harsh frost winds can give it peace.

For countless months, Vortex surged toward a distant beacon of light, relentlessly in search of solace.

As his howls of anguish

echoed through the deeps, despair took hold, the light seemingly just beyond reach.

On the brink of surrender, he heard the voice of the Serenade of the Tides.

Marri's presence was a soothing balm to his tortured soul.

Her song guided him to a fallen star, whose essence intertwined with his being as it had with hers.

This act purged the last vestiges of his humanity.

No longer torn between worlds, Vortex has embraced the ocean, his form a vibrant tapestry of marine life, as paradoxically fierce and tranquil as the sea itself.

Known as the Howl of the Tides, Vortex stands beside Marri as a compassionate healer.

The twisted shadow of his former self is no more, replaced by a being who embodies the ocean's timeless power.
