A woman of conviction. She possessed a strong mentality that never became disheartened and allowed her to say what must be said to whoever it is, even to the ruler of the British Empire.
Her nickname was "Little War Office." Owner of a persistence that could also be described as a one woman army.

Born to a wealthy member of the gentry, she was popular in the social world. However, at a young age she decided to work as a nurse, which was considered a lowly profession.
After gaining skills and knowledge in the fields of nursing and medicine, she directed a reform in the field of nursing from a clinic at Harley Street, London. She used her personal fortune to create modern facilities and improve conditions for nurses.
At the request of Wartime Minister Sidney Herbert, an acquaintance, she went to the site of the Crimean war as the director of a group of British army nurses.
What she found there was hell.

The conditions there were nightmarish due to lack of understanding about nursing and medical care, as well as many out-of-date and unhygienic practices. She devoted herself to improving wartime medical care.
Mortality rate in wartime clinics temporarily increased, but because of her dedication to enforce proper nursing and hygiene, and her willingness to spend her own private funds on materials, she lowered the death rate that was close to 40% to just 5%.
The soldiers who saw her said, "I saw an angel."

She kept working, and began a major reform in wartime medical care and military health. She even brought Queen Victoria to her side in the quest for this revolution.
The hospital records analysis she performed as part of her reform made her a forerunner of statistics studies.
