Is Gilles de Rais good?
Gilles de Rais leans on stacking debuffs rather than raw stats: his finishing move can drop an enemy's defense by as much as 40%, and his skills chip away at Arts and Buster resistance plus defense for five turns on top of that. His third skill also applies a solid chunk of Curse to every enemy before his attack even lands, and he deals bonus damage against Curse-afflicted targets himself, so just landing the Curse already pays off, backed by an accompanying area defense down.
That same skill also banks a 30% NP charge on its own, and stacking the right Append Skill with extra charge from craft essences or support gets his finishing move ready instantly, though most of his debuffs don't carry between waves, which makes him weak for farming, and as a story-locked 3-star with a hard-to-raise Noble Phantasm level, stronger 3-star AoE Casters usually get the slot instead.
