Kiichi Hogen

An onmyouji priest and strategist, she is described in legend as the founder of the Kyouhachiryu, the oldest school of swordsmanship in western Japan. She taught young Ushiwakamaru the art of war and even passed on the most closely guarded secrets of warfare, the "Six Secret Teachings" and the "Three Strategies of Huang Shigong"...though not on purpose. Kiichi Hogen became murderously angry after learning that Ushiwakamaru tried to seduce her daughter to sneak a look at the manuscripts, making her a truly terrifying mentor to Ushiwakamaru.

Her name: Kiichi Hogen.

Kiichi Hogen is said to be the founder of the legendary school of swordsmanship "Kyouhachiryu." Kyouhachiryu is considered to be the origin of Western Japanese swordsmanship, consisting of the eight styles Kiichi taught her eight leading disciples. One of the disciples is said to have been Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune (Ushiwakamaru).

Kiichi Hogen is the guardian of this manuscript.

She is happy-go-lucky. She does not worry about the little things, laughing them off without a care in the world. At first glance, her words and actions speak of an inclusive, humane, and reliable nature... But in reality, her sensibilities are far removed from anything human, and even a brief conversation with her makes clear that she's a little...off in relation to humans.

She's basically just not human.

The supernatural entity named Kiichi Hogen is often identified with the Kurama Tengu, or the great tengu Soujoubou (the high priest and god of the tengu) of Mt. Kurama. The Edo period joururi (a Japanese dramatic narrative) titled “Kiichi Hogen Sanryaku-no-maki” lists Kiichi Hogen as the alias of Soujoubou, a tengu from Mt. Kurama.

In this game, too, Kiichi Hogen is not considered human. She is the great tengu.

She is an Elemental who aligns with the mountains, sky, wind, fire, and other natural aspects, and while she is not a Divine Spirit, she has more in common with them than with humans.

Although she does not normally interact with humans, there have been some examples of her bestowing something upon humans, as in the case of Ushiwakamaru and the Kyouhachiryu. Her gifts tend to be knowledge, skills, and secret techniques...though not exclusively.

The moment you put her in a bad mood, you are liable to be sent (quite literally) to hell. After all, a great tengu as renowned as the Kurama Soujoubou should have no difficulty opening the gates of hell.

The “usen” refers to a fan made from the feathers of a hawk or eagle. It is a tool used to command troops, but in other instances, they also appear in legends and paintings as mystic Noble Phantasms possessing enormous divine power used by sages and tengu.

It is a tengu's fan, and Assassin Kiichi Hogen uses one of these fans (feathered uchiwa) for her Noble Phantasm.

Its destructive power is, in a word, tremendous. This Noble Phantasm better embodies the properties of Kurama Tengu, the great tengu known as Soujoubou of Mt. Kurama, as opposed to Kiichi Hogen, the onmyouji and strategist. Upon its True Name revelation, the power of its winds is on the level of a storm or a cataclysm that splits the mountains and shakes the earth.

She is not as knowledgeable about the workings of the human mind. However, sometimes, when she is in the mood, she has been known to grant the prayers of the weak, or raise and instruct individuals who have hidden talent like Ushiwakamaru. She does not understand humans that well, but she doesn’t hate them, in the same way that she does not hate animals or insects.

She loves parties.
