Rulership secured 3rd place despite the odds and Gold Ship won the race at 1st place.

Biography

"Checkmate. The game's already in the palm of my hand."

A hardcore board game enthusiast who enjoys the genre as a whole, from classics like Reversi to modern ones.

She's an intellectual who likes to plan and scheme her way into dominating the flow of the game.

The ingenuity serves as an asset in races as well, but...her frail ego is her greatest weakness.

When her plans derail by accident, she instantly buckles and folds, hiding away in her room and refusing to come out.

Appearance

Rulership has pale blue eyes and short, unkempt hair arranged in a messy, chin-length bob with a slight ahoge on top.

Her hair is mostly a light umber color accented by a white undertone, with a prominent zig-zag-shaped blaze to match.

She wears two alternating black-and-white triangular hairclips on the left side of her bangs.

She also dons a green, diamond-shaped ring over her right ear; it is adorned with two circular black and white earrings, which also happen to resemble miniature reversi game pieces.

Rulership's race outfit reflects her affluence and braggadocious persona, consisting of a white halterneck dress shirt underneath a black waistcoat and high-waisted shorts.

She dons a cape resembling a jacket worn over the shoulders, with detached black sleeves decorated with black and white feathers.

The cape is primarily yellow, with a striped black-and-yellow lining, and has longer strips of fabric and black belts dangling off the sleeves.

The back of the cape is dark grey, with a pair of red belts forming a saltire connected by a silver, cross-shaped buckle.

The shirt is fastened with a bolo tie featuring a black-and-white color scheme and a green square-shaped charm with a checkerboard design similar to a reversi board.

The waistcoat features a red saltire on its right, while the left is decorated by a yellow stripe and an assortment of pins: one featuring a corner of a reversi board with matching black and white pieces, a green capital letter "R", a rook chess piece, and a triangular pin embossed with a die icon.

Her shorts have eight silver buttons, as well as a thin pair of belts connected by a diamond-shaped buckle with a cross emblem.

Attached to these belts is a yellow tassel on the left side; on the right, she wears a key ring with an assortment of trinkets: a pair of charms consisting of another rook chess piece and a pair of dice, and a chain that wraps around her waist.

She wears white gloves with a striped green trim and triangular black buttons.

Her footwear is a pair of black thigh-high boots, each of which are adorned with two green straps and a long, white stripe that stops just above the ankle.

Eishin Flash - Friend and rival. Flash is a bit firm with Rulership's mental state, but still cares about her.

Rose Kingdom - Friend and rival. Rulership tends to heavily exaggerate her speech when around Rose, which confuses the latter.

Rulership also tries to get Rose to try "normal" food, such as hamburgers.

Victoire Pisa - Friend and rival. Victoire Pisa tends to comfort her when she's in a weakened mental state.

Rulership looks up to Pisa, and is somewhat envious of her good qualities, such as her kindness.

She also views Pisa as inspiring, and was brought to tears when Pisa won the Dubai World Cup.

IRL, Eishin Flash, Rose Kingdom, Rulership and Victoire Pisa were rivals throughout their careers, starting with their classic years.

Rulership and Victoire Pisa were also stablemates at Sumii Stable while they were active.

Air Groove - Friend and upperclassman. Groove is aware of how Rulership gets when she's upset, so she is a bit soft yet firm with her.

Rulership looks up to Groove, and she is one of the few Umamusume that she uses the honorific "-san" for.

The two have known each other since they were young, with Air Groove having looked after Rulership for a long time.

The two tend to have a parent-child dynamic with each other.

IRL, Air Groove is Rulership's dam.

Admire Groove - Friend and classmate, introduced through Air Groove.

They both get annoyed by each other, and Rulership hates it when Admire Groove finds her to be a nuisance.

However, Air Groove encourages both of them to get along with each other and not bicker.

On occasion, Rulership asks Admire Groove to play games with her and help her with studying.

IRL, Admire Groove is Rulership's older half-sister.

Currently, in Umamusume, it is not confirmed whether or not Admire Groove and Rulership are biologically related due to Admire Groove being an orphan.

Kiseki - Friend and underclassman. Rulership shows interesting in mentoring Kiseki once she finishes her racing career.

Kiseki finds Rulership's strategies in games cool and intense.

IRL, Kiseki is Rulership's son.

Epiphaneia - Friend and roommate. On occasion, they both play games together.

However, they tend to not get along, since Rulership finds Epiphaneia loud and annoying at times.

IRL, they both shared the same jockey, Yuichi Fukunaga.

They also both competed in the Hong Kong Queen Elizabeth II Cup, where Rulership ran in 2012, while Epiphaneia ran in 2014.

They have both competed in Dubai as well, where Rulership ran in the Dubai Sheema Classic in 2011, while Epiphaneia ran in the Dubai World Cup in 2015.

Gold Ship - Friend. Gold Ship likes to tease Rulership, and vice versa.

When playing games together, Rulership likes tricking Gold Ship.

Occasionally, Air Groove requests for Rulership to deal with Gold Ship, though this typically turns into them playing games together instead.

IRL, both Gold Ship and Rulership were known for their poor starts and end-closer racing styles.

The two horses would meet at the 2012 Arima Kinen and both demonstrate their end-closer skills, with Gold Ship surging from the rear of the pack into 1st place, and Rulership finishing 3rd despite a very late start due to standing up in his gate.

Orfevre - Friend and rival. Orfevre finds Rulership's strategies to be cunning and intelligent.

While Rulership helps Orfevre with plans sometimes, she is extremely afraid and intimidated by Orfevre.

IRL, Rulership and Orfevre would race against each other on three separate occasions (2011 Arima Kinen, 2012 Takarazuka Kinen, and 2012 Japan Cup) with Orferve beating Rulership all three times.

Dream Journey - Friend and rival. Journey, alongside Orfevre, finds Rulership's strategies to be cunning.

Journey also acknowledges Rulership's strength as a racer.

IRL, the two would race against each other at the 2010 Arima Kinen, and the 2011 Takarazuka Kinen.

Stay Gold - Friend. Stay Gold finds Rulership funny and interesting, and sees potential in her.

Both of them see the similaries between each other, as they both struggled in the Twinkle Series but found success in Hong Kong.

IRL, both achieved their greatest international success in Hong kong.

Stay Gold won the 2001 Hong Kong Vase in his finale career start, while Rulership won the 2012 Hong Kong Queen Elizabeth II Cup.

Mejiro Dober - Friend. They both train together on occasion, and they both admire Air Groove.

However, Dober gets exasperated by Rulership's behavior, and dislikes how lazy she can be.

IRL, Mejiro Dober has conceived two foals from Rulership; Ho O Dream in 2014 and Pinscher in 2016.

Buena Vista - Friend and rival.

IRL, the two would race against each other at the 2010 Arima Kinen, 2011 Takarazuka Kinen, and 2011 Arima Kinen.

They later mated, producing a son named Pythias.

Transcend - Friend and rival.

Fusaichi Pandora - Friend. They sometimes play board games together.

When Pandora wins a match, Rulership immediately sulks in her room.

IRL, Fusaichi Pandora and Rulership had a foal named Satono Esperanza together in 2017.

She has a liking for sweets. She also tends to eat dessert when she is upset after losing a game.

Her dislike for cats is likely a reference to the real horse Neko Punch, who defeated Rulership in the 2012 Nikkei Sho.

Win Variation also references this horse, as she mentions that a cat punched her earlier.

She likes going to amusement parks when there's no one else around.

In her career and character story, when she is upset or frustrated, she tends to repeat words over and over.

Her tendency to suffer late starts in races is a reference to the real horse, as Rulership was infamous for starting late in many of his races.

Her skills also reference this tendency:

Her unique skill will either activate immediately if she does not get a late start, or will activate mid-way through the race if she does get a late start, and is still at the back of the pack.

Her evolved version of the skill Concentration will make her significantly more delayed following a late start, in turn giving her a great boost in speed around the middle part of the race.

In episode four of her character story, Rulership notes that three Umamusume from the 5th, 9th, and 12th gate are fighting for the lead during a race she's competing in.

This is a reference to the 2011 Kinko Sho that Rulership won.

Captain Thule was in the 5th gate, Earnestly was in the 9th gate, and Unrivaled was in the 12th gate.

She shows interest in opening a board game inn with her trainer.

According to Air Groove in the lobby, Rulership tends to be late for exams, causing her to fail them.

She likes to read manga in internet cafes.
