Ayanami ranks among the best torpedo destroyers in the game thanks to a very high torpedo stat, and remodeling her adds Oni-Kami's Dance, which boosts firepower and survivability whenever it triggers. The catch is that she's built entirely around landing torpedoes, so she underperforms on Auto and needs manual play to get real value out of her.

Fubuki class destroyers were equipped with 9 torpedo tubes, housed in triple tube mounts, of which you can see two on Ayanami.

Type II Ayanami class destroyers featured an improved 127 mm dual-purpose naval gun, which unlike her predecessor in the Type I class, could be raised 75 degrees instead of 40 degrees, meaning that her main armament could be used in an anti-aircraft fashion.

She can be seen wielding one of these double-barreled naval guns in her left hand.

The sword she wields in her right hand is a possible reference to the melee in which she was succumbed to at the Second Naval Battle of Guadalcanal.

Ayanami, with the assistance of two other destroyers, would be responsible for the sinking of two destroyers, mortally wounding another, and severely damaging a fourth.

She would then become the target for Washington, who would cripple her, leading to her eventual scuttling.
