Minneapolis' different design, particularly how slim she is compared to previously-introduced ships of the same class (mainly Astoria and Quincy) may be a reference to how after Astoria, Quincy, and Vincennes were sunk, the remaining New Orleans class ships were modified.
These modifications resulted in them being less top heavy.
