Shardsnail summons a crystal a tile ahead of your furthest row, and since it inherits Shardsnail's high defense, that crystal sticks around for a good while. Outside of that gimmick, its actual damage lags behind other Rock DPS options, so we rate it C.
It's best run alongside something with more offense, like 
Punchimp or the 
Mudrump/Rockhog line, to cover for its weak output.

Background
The crystals on Shardsnail are the result of an infectious ore disease, but it's not contagious.
