Biography

Background

He was created by Herzog in Black Swan Bay in 1985 from the genes of Uesugi Koeru, who was a descendant of the Dragon White Queen Izanami.

The Yamata no Orochi sent samples of Uesugi Koeru's blood to Nazi scientists during WWII in order to learn more about their heritage, where they fell in Herzog's hands.

Herzog was eventually betrayed by a mysterious man named Bondarev, who took Chisei with him, along with his brother Chime and his sister Erii after the fall of the Black Swan Bay facility in 1990.

Chisei and Chime were abandoned in a small town in Japan where they grew up in foster care.

Their caretaker was an alcoholic man who received an alimony from an unknown source.

Chisei was the best student in town, and also great at kendo and basketball, often getting lots of attention from his female classmates.

A man from the city named Masamune Tachibana, who was Herzog in disguise, often came to the town and hired Chisei as a guide during his trips to the mountains.

Masamune brought Coke for Chisei, since he couldn't afford his own, and acted as a mentor for the boy.

At some point, Chisei heard that Tachibana was a member of the criminal underworld in Tokyo and he decided to cut ties with the man.

Tachibana informed Chisei of his condition as the last descendant of the Gen clan of the Yamata no Orochi, the true rulers of the Japanese underworld, and asked him to move with him as his adoptive son.

Tachibana wanted to go abroad, away from the criminal life, but Chisei refused.

His foster father was very angry at him.

After a girl from the city was put under their care as well, she moved into their house, so Chisei was required to move out.

He abandoned the man and moved to the school's gym.

Word of his underworld connection had spread and he was soon faced with a great amount of social isolation.

Despite managing to be the best student at the graduation ceremony, no one applauded for him.

Tachibana arrived surrounded by cadres of the Yamata no Orochi, now the leader of the organization, asking Chisei to join him as an associate rather than a son.

The young hybrid accepted the offer after realizing that his people were never going to accept him, despite of his accomplishments.

Chime was left behind.

Joining the Orochi

He was trained in both martial arts and sword fighting, and was put in charge of hunting down Oni, who were Japanese hybrids with unstable blood.

He received his first mission when he was 17 years old.

The Orochi heard of an Oni who became a serial killer in his hometown, and since Chisei knew every single girl on the victims list, he took this mission personally.

He was expecting to visit Chime after finishing his assignment and brought a Nintendo DS console for him as a gift from Tokyo.

That night, a miko danced among the city girls who were visiting the town and induced them into a trance.

Chisei realized that the girl was a boy, who started kissing his victims and managed to kill one with a blade that he hid in his mouth.

Chisei jumped from the roof and cut the Oni with his sword, failing to kill him.

He went for a second strike, but the Oni used a girl as a human shield and Chisei killed her by accident.

He recognized the identity of the killer: his brother, Chime.

Chisei entered an abandoned storage room that he discovered with his brother when they were children and waited for him.

Inside, he found the remains of the other victims, plasticized and wearing kimonos and heavy makeup.

He heard his brother singing and acting around a corpse that he was treating for preservation and Chisei called his name.

At that moment, Chime's personality resurfaced and got stabbed right before he greeted his brother.

"Brother, you. . . Are you back? ": -Chime's last words to Chisei.

Chisei cried for a moment, then took the body and dropped it to the bottom of a well, sealing it with cast iron.

He left his hometown and never mentioned Chime to anyone but Masamune.

Taking care of Erii

Tachibana introduced him to Uesugi Erii, who always went under intense medical treatments.

He felt sorry for the girl and gifted her the Nintendo DS console that he originally bought for Chime, which eventually led to Erii's fascination with video games.

They would play regular matches of Samurai Shodown 2, all of which were won by him, and he occasionally took her out to walk around Tokyo.

Chisei was named patriarch of the Gen family, of which he was the only living member of, and he took a seat on the council of the eight Orochi families along with Erii, matriarch and sole member of the Uesugi family.

His new responsibilities constantly separated him from Erii, who grew bored of her confinement.

They would always knock at the opposite sides of her room's paper wall as a way of saying goodbye.

Fighting devils

In the following years, the Oni of the Orochi families that escaped their confinement formed their own organization, the Oni Clan.

Chisei killed many Oni in the name of justice.

Deep down, all he wanted was to retire and start a sunscreen business at a nudist French beach.

He also compared himself to Lonesome George, the last Pinta Island tortoise who didn't care about saving its species but would rather play in the mud.

One day he heard Crow talking about a girl who would do any sort of favor in exchange for food.

Disgusted by the possible implications, he decided to hire her instead.

Since she was a proficient killer, the girl, whose name was Yabuki Sakura, became his assistant and bodyguard.

Akira Sakurai

Years later, they received reports of a serial killer who left traces of draconic skills.

Yasha and Crow interrogated a Molotov Cocktail distributor and obtained the name "Akira Sakurai".

Chisei and his team decided to fight Sakurai in a train.

Yabuki pretended to be a schoolgirl with autism to awaken both Akira's desire and sympathy.

After evacuating the train cart for a supposed malfunction with the air conditioning, Sakura left the cart as well, allowing Chisei to fight Akira alone.

The fight caused significant damage to the train, but Akira died under the effects of the drugs.

Chisei met with Tachibana, who asked him to pick up a group of commissioners sent from Cassell College.

Mission in the Japanese Trench

The Ace Team

The Ace team of Cassell College were sent on a mission to the bottom of the Japanese trench, where they intended to locate a dragon embryo.

After having a bad first impression of them, Chisei soon befriended the Aces, especially Caesar Gattuso, who wanted to learn more about CHisei's life in the Japanese underworld.

Chisei took the Aces with him to resolve a matter in the streets; a girl named Asou Makoto was being harassed by a gangster that charged the café where she worked for protection.

Chisei threatened the gangster and defused an armed conflict outside.

The Sumeru Throne

Chisei took the Aces on a boat to the Unsinkable Sumeru Throne, a floating fortress.

Caesar trusted him to bring them back to the surface safely, but the platform was overwhelmed by dragon corpses.

Tachibana urged Chisei to abandon his foreign comrades at the bottom of the ocean.

Despite refusing to betray them, the situation quickly became overwhelming.

Erii was ordered to eliminate all life in the area to contain the reanimated corpses and he was forced to evacuate.

Leading the War

Rebellion

Tachibana informed him of his decision to abandon the Secret Party in order to protect their powerful and potentially unstable bloodline from Anjou.

Tachibana passed down his position as the main patriarch of the Yamata no Orochi to Chisei.

Believing the Oni Clan to be responsible for their failure on their last mission, Chisei declared war against them.

In a few days the Yamata no Orochi eradicated many Oni and critically weakened their organization.

Intending to deal a fatal blow to the Oni Clan and discover the identity of their leader, Chisei attacked their main headquarters, a casino named Bliss Hall.

The Oni had already started a fire and only Kogure Sakurai remained, who confused Chisei with his brother.

Chisei demanded to learn the identities of the Oni Clan's leaders in exchange for her life, but Kogure refused, opting instead to consume Molotov Cocktails and transform into a draconized creature.

Chisei fought her the middle of the burning building and ultimately stabbed her in the chest, ending her life.

Crisis of Confidence

Chisei soon realized that the Aces had survived and that they had infiltrated Genji Heavy industries, the Yamata no Orochi's headquarters, with the help of Erii.

Chisei ultimately met his old allies in the hall of murals, where he attempted to neutralize them after they learned about the history of his family and their heritage, but they escaped after joining forces to repel an attack of dragon corpses.

Learning that the corpses were bred by Tachibana in a secret floor of their headquarters, Chisei met his father at the hall of murals, where Tachibana claimed to be Bondarev in disguise.

According to Bondarev's tale, he farmed Servitors in order to extract their blood to stabilize his daughter Erii, who was corroded by the blood of the dragon embryo that was buried under Black Swan Bay.

As punishment for his deception, Chisei cut Tachibana's fingers.

That night, he took him to visit Chime's grave, only to discover a different body at the bottom of the well.

A secret meeting

Chisei learned of Erii's escape and placed a substantial reward for anyone who could bring her back alive.

While spying on Tachibana, he discovered that he was planning to meet with Osho, the leader of the Oni Clan.

During the secret meeting, Chisei wired the building and managed to hear the conversation, in which Tachibana accepted to join forces with Osho to revive the dragon king.

Feeling betrayed, Chisei started climbing the building.

Tachibana refused to go along with Osho's plan and fought him until Chisei arrived.

Osho nearly killed Masamune, but he managed to wound Osho with Chisei and Yabuki Sakura's help.

Osho attempted to escape, but he was cut in three pieces by Chime Gen.

Chisei was shocked by the sight of his brother, who quickly vanished into the night.

They tried to escape, but a swarm of flying Death Servitors surrounded them and took down a rescue helicopter.

In order to buy them some time, Sakura took a piece of cloth that was stained with Chisei's blood and climbed to the top of the tower, where she attracted most of the servitors and jumped to her death.

A distraught Chisei took Tachibana to the basement parking lot, and they boarded different vehicles.

Just like Sakura before him, Tachibana sacrificed himself to the servitors, allowing Chisei to escape alive.

The next day, he visited Tachibana's tomb with Erii.

Realizing that she had grown beyond his own expectations, he allowed her to leave Genji Heavy Industries and even taught her how to find her way back home.

The queen awakens

Miyamoto Shio notified him of the Oni Clan's presence, and he went to the Red Well to investigate, but their enemies were defeated by Zero, a student of Cassell College.

Fuma Kotaro brought her back to her allies, after learning that they were hiding at the Takamagahara night club and working as hosts.

They arranged a negotiation, hoping to reunite Chisei Gen with Chime.

When Chisei arrived the following night, Su Enxi had prepared a celebrity-filled event to prevent a violent altercation, but an alarm was sent throughout all of Tokyo before Chime could see his brother.

A tsunami was heading towards the city, and everyone was asked to evacuate.

The club was soon attacked by Death Servitors and mercenaries of the Oni Clan, while Chisei was wounded by Kazama Ruri, who killed Fuma Kotaro.

During the evacuation of Tokyo, Chisei witnessed as the Oni Clan started a series of coordinated attacks that decimated the Yamata no Orochi in a single night.

He arranged to send Erii to South Korea and prepared a new identity for her.

He visited the ancient shrines of the Orochi families and recruited its caretakers as fighters for a last stand at the Red Well.

Death

They arrived and shot the Oni Clan's men down.

Chisei killed Osho, but he was trapped in a dream-like state by Kazama Ruri, who showed him visions of his past from his point of view.

Dying in the dream would hurt their real bodies as well, and Kazama intended to kill his brother in this way, however, Chisei's righteousness started influencing the vision, weakening Kazama as well.

Back in the real world, Osho had brought Erii to the Red Well and she had just been infected with Izanami's parasite, starting her transformation into the White Dragon Queen.

Osho revealed himself to be Herzog and offered the brothers to her as nourishment.

A cocoon formed around Erii, and it drained all of Chisei and Chime's blood.

Herzog exchanged Erii's blood with his own, killing her, and he turned into the White Dragon King.

Legacy

After his death, Herzog was quickly slain by his old test subject Number Zero, with the help of Renata, Lu Mingfei and an orbital weapon of the Gattuso Family.

The Yamata no Orochi re-joined the Secret Party, and the Aces were allowed to go back home.

Crow read Chisei's will to them; he left a bottle of his personally made sunscreen lotion to Caesar and his two Japanese swords to Chu Zihang, since he related to his inner sadness.

Chisei was buried with his brother on the back mountain where the Shiraha Tengu Shrine was located.

It was said that their bones hugged one another.

His belongings were stored in a warehouse, along with all the remains of Herzog's research.

When Odin modified the world so Chu Zihang would not exist in it, Lu Mingfei, Nono and an amnesiac Zihang hid on the warehouse, Zihang took Chisei's blades and used them to defend Nono from Susie's ambush.
