A former shepherd, he fought the giant Goliath in a duel and won. After that, he had some struggles with the then-current king, before assuming the throne himself and becoming renowned for his leadership.

David is a shepard who plays the harp. Before his battle with Goliath, he was visiting the war camp during the battle against the Philistines to play his harp for the king. It was then the giant Goliath challenged the Israelis to a duel.

The Israeli armies were frightened by this massive giant, but David was the one man who agreed to fight him.
Goliath mocked David for not using a sword, but David knocked him unconscious with a sling, and then cut off Goliath's head using his own blade.
