Introduction

Jean Grey is a character in Marvel Contest of Champions. Jean Grey's role is Mutant.

On our Marvel Contest of Champions tier list Jean Grey is S tier, 23rd of the 297 characters ranked, from where 6 current tier lists put Jean Grey.

Is Jean Grey good?

Jean can strip the opponent's own non-damaging debuffs off them, and her Force Field, like Invisible Woman's, boosts survivability a lot while ignoring Physical Thorns while it's up. She leans heavily into Neuroshock and Neuroshock-scaling damage, all of which is Energy, so high Energy Resistance stops her cold, and damage-over-time effects eat through her Force Field, exposing her and disabling her abilities.

She also needs her Specials to actually land, so Evade or Auto-Block opponents cause real problems. S tier, and Block Proficiency plus Physical Resistance are worth prioritizing to keep her Force Field up longer.

Strengths

  • Removes the opponent's own non-damaging debuffs
  • Force Field boosts survivability and ignores Physical Thorns
  • Heavy Neuroshock and Neuroshock-scaling damage

Weaknesses

  • High Energy Resistance stops her Energy-only damage cold
  • Damage-over-time effects eat through her Force Field
  • Evade or Auto-Block opponents deny the Specials she needs to land

Background

The last member of Professor Charles Xavier’s first class of X-Men, Jean Grey has fought (and died) countless times for her people and for the world that would reject them out of fear.

She has played host to the cosmic entity known as the Phoenix Force, but even without it, she is one of the most powerful mutants the world has ever known.

A blessing for us all, then, that her many experiences with death and renewed life have shaped her into a more selfless hero than ever before, concerned not with the self but with the collective on a grand scale.

Skills

8
  • Omega Level Telepathy

    Passive

Omega Level Telepathy provides Jean Grey with full Immunity to Reversed Controls, and all of her attacks deal Energy Damage. Light Attacks 2, 3, and 4 inflict a 5377.35 Neuroshock Debuff for 18 seconds. Max stacks: 20. When Jean is struck with or Blocks a Critical Hit, inflict a 375 Exhaustion Debuff for 12 seconds. Personal Neuroshock Passives deal 8897.07 Energy Damage over 24 seconds. Max stacks: 35.

    At tier 7

  • Force Field

    Passive

Jean Grey starts each fight with a Force Field, with strength equal to 10% of her maximum Health. The Force Field is not subject to Ability Accuracy. Whenever Jean would take damage other than from a Special Attack 3, the Force Field takes up to 90% of the damage instead. While the Force Field is active, Jean takes no damage from Physical Thorns effects and the Opponent’s Critical Damage Rating is reduced by 379.31. When the Force Field is depleted, Jean lashes out psychically and inflicts a 30% Delirium Passive for 8 seconds. The Force Field then goes on cooldown for 24 seconds, after which it reforms at full strength. This cooldown is reduced by 1.5 seconds each time a Debuff is Purified off the Opponent and expires 30% more slowly while Jean is Poisoned.

    At tier 7

  • Uncanny Psion

    Passive

When a Debuff is Purified or Cleansed off the Opponent while Jean is not performing a Special Attack, gain a 12.5% Uncanny Passive until the end of her next Special Attack. Max stacks: 2. When Jean would gain an Uncanny Passive above max stacks, she instead gains an indefinite Psionic Charge. Max stacks: 10. When a Debuff is Purified or Cleansed off the Opponent during Jean’s Special Attacks by a source other than her, Jean gains a Psionic Charge. When a personal Debuff is prevented by Ability Accuracy reduction, Jean has a 35% chance to gain a Psionic Charge. This will not trigger against Opponents with #Psychic Shielding. The first hit Purifies up to 3 Neuroshock or non-Damaging Debuffs off the Opponent, and grants Jean 1 Psionic Charge if the Opponent is not Stunned. The final hit inflicts 2 personal Neuroshock Debuffs and grants Jean no Power if she is above 1 Bar of Power.

  • Limitless Potential

    Signature

While Jean’s Force Field is active, using the Parry Mastery instead inflicts a 1.5 second Stun Passive. Skill Champions cannot reduce the Ability Accuracy of this Stun. Increased control over her mutation allows Jean to retain one Uncanny Passive after her Special Attack 1. Increase the duration of personal Neuroshock Passives by 2 - 8.03 seconds.

    At tier 7

  • Special Attacks - Delirium/Neuroshock

    Passive

Personal Neuroshock, Daunted, and Delirium effects are paused during Jean’s Special Attacks. After the first hit, 50% chance to inflict a 30% Delirium Passive for 2 seconds. This will not trigger if a personal Delirium is already active. As an Attacker, the chance is 100%. As a Defender, on activation consume up to 3 Psionic Charges and inflict a personal Neuroshock Passive for each Charge consumed.

  • Special 1 - Id Rend

    Special

An elbow to the throat, and a heel to the solar plexus create space for Jean to unleash a concentrated psychic blast. The first hit Purifies all Neuroshock and non-Damaging Debuffs off the Opponent and consumes all Psionic Charges. For each Debuff Purified and for each Charge consumed in this way, inflict a personal Neuroshock Passive. The final hit inflicts 2-4 additional Neuroshock Passives.

  • Special 2 - Corpus Fragmenta

    Special

Some might call it a statement to beat your enemies with the telepathically dismembered remains of your would-be oppressors. Jean calls it a warning. On activation, inflict a non-stacking 35% Daunted Passive for 20 seconds. Each hit deals a burst of 2444.25 Energy Damage for each Neuroshock on the Opponent and for each Psionic Charge on Jean. The final hit consumes 50% of Psionic Charges, rounded down.

    At tier 7

  • Special 3 - Ego Storm

    Special

Jean, the original Omega-level telekinetic, tosses her Opponent around a bit before lifting them by the collar into point-blank range for a demonstration of her unparalleled mental might. Jean adds a flat 100% strength to her Force Field if active or reactivates it at full strength if not. Then, inflict a personal Neuroshock Passive for every 20% of the Force Field’s remaining strength.
