Choi Jong-In doesn't deal critical damage at all, so his real damage comes from stacking Attack and Defense Penetration instead. His ultimate resets every basic skill cooldown, and once he hits his first advancement it also triples the damage of his first basic skill for a stretch afterward, which is where most of his burst comes from.

Since none of his damage runs through crit stats, gear choices that would normally chase crit are wasted on him, so cooldown reduction and flat damage pieces serve him better.

Dossier #01: Chance

The flame-wielding mage Choi Jong-In was closer to fire than anyone, but did not particularly like it.

Before he awakened, fire had been the source of much of his unhappiness.

However, he'd just chalked it up to rotten luck.

A couple of accidents could happen to anyone.

Unexplainable things were happening every day, after all.

It was hard enough following the changes brought about by the gates and magic beasts.

Jong-In had no time to pour over his past misfortunes.

But change is an opportunity, and opportunity is a stepping stone to success.

Dossier #02: Change

This new world brought Jong-In the chance he was looking for.

The raw Mana Crystals and Essence Stones were worth a lot of money.

Despite the "rotten luck" that seemed to follow him, the potential profit was too alluring to ignore.

It was when he was pushed to the very edge that Jong-In discovered his misfortune was secretly his greatest strength.

Dossier #03: Danger

Danger always lurked around raid sites.

But after six years of the same, the scene began to feel more boring than tense.

Familiarity let him get comfortable with the danger, and that opened the door for disaster.

There should have been a fair amount of time remaining before the Dungeon Break, but there was already a line of magic beasts trying to get out.

It was a C-Rank Gate.

The strike squad was eight hunters from a small guild and two low-rank hunters there to fulfill the headcount.

The dungeon shouldn't have been too difficult.

Dossier #04: Something Looming

But even after the group of blue, glowing Giant Golems began emerging form the gate, the hunters were nowhere to be seen.

Something had to have happened to the strike squad.

Sensing danger, Jong-In hid himself. He needed a sure way to get out of here.

If only he could get the Golems' attention with a big explosion, or something...

But explosives didn't work inside the dungeons.

There was nothing to use.

As he turned to look at the shadow creeping over his head, Jong-In realized there was nothing he could do.

He was desparate.

Dossier #05: The Man, The Legend

Jong-In knew that when someone became an awakened being, sensing mana and using their abilities were supposed to be instinctive.

If he were one of them, he could create an explosion all by himself.

Suddenly, the smoking cigarette in his hand felt more like a fuse.

It was about to explode.

"I should probably throw this at the monsters before it goes off, huh?" He thought.

The cigarette butt arced through the air and landed on a Golem's head.

It detonated.

Jong-In got the hang of it pretty quick.

He pointed his powers towards the clustered Golems and created an even bigger explosion.

It was a bit more intense than he intended, but pretty good for a first try.

Actually, it was pretty remarkable.

Exaggerated eyewitness accounts that were passed down by word of mouth created the nickname The Ultimate Hunter.

Dossier #06: The Irony Is...

Fire Magic is the most common Mage-type hunter ability, but the intensity of it varies greatly depending on the mana power of its wielder.

And Jong-In's mana power was off the charts.

He was an S-Rank

It was ironic.

The little "accidents" that had interfered with his life were connected to the abilities that made him a top Korean guild master.

Jong-In wondered if hunters' abilities were the result of the most high-stress moments of their lives.

If this was true, every moment that hunters had to use their abilities to fight magic beasts would be a reminder of that trauma.

A grim thought; after all, no one wants to relive past failures over and over again.

He quickly let the hypothetical go. Whatever the reason he developed his power, it was the new opportunity he had so badly wanted.

Even if misfortune brought on his awakening, what he did with it next would be entirely up to him.
