Finger Von Frings

Finger Von Frings (芬格尔) was Lu Mingfei's roommate in Cassell College before his eventual graduation.

Despite acting lazy and careless, Finger is witty, resourceful and highly competent in the use of Yanling.

After being the only survivor of the failed Greenland Mission (in which he lost his girlfriend Norma) Finger created a digital version of her as the face of Cassell's AI Butler.

He managed to stay in the school without graduating for 8 years, granting him the shameful G-Rank.

He was entrusted with protecting Lu Mingfei and helped him to pass his 3E test and learn the rules of the school.

He hacked his way into the Mission to slay Norton and found an exit for Mingfei and Nono, allowing them to escape the city of bronze.

Flammel recruited him to clean Chu Zihang's name during Anjou's impeachment by removing incriminating evidence and was sent to track Fenrir in Beijing.

He later rescued Mingfei and Zihang from the crumbling underground tunnels of the Beijing Subway system.

Thanks to his achievements, he finally graduated in 2010.

He started an internship in the Execution Bureau and was sent to the Japanese branch.

When the Yamata no Orochi decided to abandon the Secret Party, Finger became a fugitive and had to gather food from dumpsters.

Eventually, he saw advertisements for a night club where Mingfei, Caesar and Zihang worked as hosts and he was taken in by them.

Finger served as a spy during a meeting between Osho's Blade and Masamune Tachibana and took care of Zero after she was injured in battle.

When the White King was resurrected, he and Zero fought the Oni Clan together and he took her to a military airport to steal an experimental aircraft.

Biography

Background

Finger was admitted at Cassell College 8 years before Lu Mingfei's admission, he was tutored by the vice-principal Leonardo Flammel.

He was an A-Rank student, good with mathematics and a capable hacker.

He possessed a strong will to fight and was excited to go on his first dragon research mission.

He was sent with professor Schneider and a group of students to a mission in the Greenland Sea.

Among them was his girlfriend Norma Rohens, who was assigned to the diving team that would confirm the presence of a dragon embryo.

Once underwater, Norma and the rest of the diving team failed to resist the psychic influence of the creature, making them disobey direct orders.

The dragon hatched and killed all of them, then it gravely wounded Schneider, who managed to survive but with permanent injuries.

The event left Finger heartbroken, and he developed a crippling fear of dragons.

During the following years, he helped to finish the school's A.

I. butler and modeled her in Norma's image.

Finger became incapable of leaving the school, he visited Norma in secret and went down a rank for each year in which he failed to graduate, going all the way down to F-Rank.

He was also heavily in debt, by the start of his eighth year, he already owed $30,000 US dollars from overusing his credit card.

Finger spent much of his time in the Night Watchman forum, regularly hacking the school system, he was also an avid gossiper, becoming the leader of the Gossip Association.

Assigned to Lu Mingfei

In 0 BD, Finger was summoned by Cassell's principal Hilbert Ron Anjou, who gave him the mission of protecting and supporting a future student named Lu Mingfei.

He also revealed Norma's secret prime directive as a weaponized AI: To protect and support Lu Mingfei.

As an F-Rank student, Finger usually had to wait for days for the CC1000 train to pick him up, since he was at the bottom of the schedule.

At some point, he met Mingfei and asked him for a dollar, since he allegedly lost his wallet.

Mingfei only had $20 dollars, so he bought one single soda cup with two straws to save money and took advantage of the refill policy of the restaurant.

They waited for two days and two nights before the train arrived for them and Mingfei learned of his status as an S-Rank.

Once inside, they met professor Guderian, who attempted to teach Mingfei about the true purpose of Cassell College, but his presentation was sabotaged by Finger as a prank.

Finger revealed the existence of dragons and Cassell's mission to end their reign, but an incredulous Mingfei attempted to escape the train and they were forced to tie him up and sedate him.

Later that day, during the Day of Liberty competition, Mingfei wasn't informed about the nature of the event and and he defeated both Chu Zihang and Caesar Gattuso, presidents of the Lionheart Society and the Student Union respectively.

The S-Rank's test

Mingfei was assigned to share a room with Finger and he got his new roommate up to date about his achievements and newly gained popularity.

During that night, he helped Guderian to teach Mingfei the basics of the 3E test that would grant him a scholarship for Cassell.

Once Guderian left, Finger decided to sell Mingfei the results of the test for $3000 dollars and Mingfei accepted.

After Mingfei finished his test, Finger visited Norma and requested her to switch to the EVA personality.

Finger asked her to give Mingfei a passing grade and let him keep his S-Rank status.

Later that day, he and Mingfei ate the cheapest meal at the cafeteria, a German dish that he was already tired of, since he ate it every day.

That evening, it was revealed by Anjou that Mingfei passed the 3E test and retained his S-Rank, thanks to this, Finger earned a large sum of money from bets that he made with other students.

Mingfei received an email from Nono, inviting them to the Student Union's dance.

The dance

The pair didn't own formal clothes and they borrowed some from the drama club, Nono quickly figured it out, but she escorted them to the dance.

The pair ate from the buffet in a food frenzy and tried to get someone to dance with them, after failing, they danced with each other until Zero asked Mingfei to dance with her.

Caesar showed up at the balcony and congratulated every one of his guests for they position as the best among the best in the hybrid society, inviting every single one of them to join the Student Union, Finger loved the idea immediately, since every member received a small salary for their duties, Caesar invited Mingfei to join him upstairs, but before he could think about it, a group of mercenaries attacked the school.

Running from Constantine

Later that night, Finger was on his way to the cafeteria for supper when he was intercepted by Mingfei, Nono and Old Tang, he realized that they were running away from an awakened Constantine and they ran into Caesar and Sakatoku Mai.

Caesar instructed them to leave while he and Mai held Constantine back.

Finger had the idea of hiding at the swimming pool, since water could be useful against Constantine, who's elemental power was fire.

This proved itself ineffective, Constantine got in the pool and forced them to get out by boiling the water.

Eventually, Mingfei assisted Anjou, successfully assassinating the dragon twin.

Mission against Norton

Mingfei and Nono were sent to dive into the Three Gorges Dam in China to infiltrate Norton's ancient City of Bronze.

At some point, they got lost in the city and Finger hacked into the mission's communicators when Mingfei used the Black Sheep Wall cheat code.

Finger and Norma guided the pair into a safe way out.

After successfully slaying Norton, Mingfei vomited in the boat and Finger took pictures that he later posted on his gossiping forum.

Valentine's day

In 2010 during Valentine's Day, Caesar and Chu Zihang were moved to the general dormitories.

One day, Caesar knocked on Finger's door to ask for some pepper.

The rival presidents were preparing pizza for Nono and Susie, and the latter offered Finger some of the pizza she was making.

Chu Zihang's Trial

During the summer of 2010, Finger made a phone call to Caesar, telling him about a forum post made by Chu Zihang.

The president of the Lionheart Society asked for a reservation for two at the popular Aspasia Restaurant in China in exchange for any favor that wouldn't break his moral codes.

Caesar got him reservation.

Cleaning the evidence

At the start of the school year, Frost Gattuso started a conspiracy to fire Anjou and have someone replace him as the principal of the college, to prevent this, Anjou and Flammel decided to clean the evidence of Zihang being an unstable user of Blood Rage, they asked Finger to do it and he agreed in exchange for the right to graduate, since it was becoming harder for him to justify his long stay at the school.

He took the members of the gossip association to the headquarters of the execution bureau, and they started to remove the evidence of Zihang's actions from all over the internet.

Realizing that they had an impossible task on their hands, they decided to create fake evidence instead, editing Zihang into still images taken from superhero films.

These fake pictures made their way into the hands of the Gattuso family and were easily disproven.

Visiting Norma

As soon as they finished, he intercepted Caesar and Nono's marriage application and he was quick to notify Mingfei.

Seeing his underclassman depressed, Finger drank with him in an attempt to cheer him up, but Mingfei started drinking excessively from then on.

Worried about him, Finger went to visit Norma and asked her to deny Caesar's application to give Mingfei another chance.

Norma refused and advised Finger against over-protecting Mingfei, the meeting was interrupted when an alarm notified them of an intruder in the Ice Cellar.

Defending the Ice Cellar

Finger hid his face under a KFC paper bag with two holes in it and went to the Ice Cellar, where he met the masked intruder along with Mai Sakatoku and Parsi Gattuso attempting to steal Constantine's skeleton.

Recognizing the original intruder as the biggest threat, the tree of them attacked her together.

Mai's fight with the intruder escalated until the whole place started to crumble, prompting Finger and Parsi to join forces to escape through the elevator.

Hunting Fenrir

Anjou's test

After Zihang's trial was interrupted by the news of Fenrir's awakening in Beijing, Finger was summoned by Anjou to his office.

Realizing that they intended to send him on the mission to slay Fenrir, he attempted to escape and Flammel had to tie him up to a chair.

After making him understand that participating in the mission was the only way for him to earn his graduation, Anjou informed them of his inability to provide the team with any sort of support or equipment due to his current impeachment.

Instead, the principal presented them with the Seven Deadly Sins.

Finger managed to retrieve the Sloth sword with no effort, and they were sent in economy class on a flight full of hybrids, who were also on their way to attempt to slay the dragon.

Research and rescue

Soon after their arrival, a depressed Mingfei abandoned them to play Starcraft at an internet cafe, leaving only Finger and Zihang to investigate.

Xia Mi knocked on their door to bring them food and ask Zihang to go to her parent's home for dinner.

Later that night, after Mingfei and Zihang managed to find and defeat Fenrir on an underground Nibelungen, the place started to collapse.

Finger had to run through every station in the Beijing subway system until he finally reached the right one and rescued the pair by sending a train to their aid.

Church visit

A victim of Fenrir's Nibelungen was Zhao Menghua, Lu Mingfei's old rival in love.

Since Cassell's memory wipe process left Zhao confused, he was converted to catholicism.

His girlfriend Chen Wenwen invited Mingfei and Finger to attend church with them.

After leaving the temple, they returned to Chicago.

This marked the end of Finger's last semester in Cassell College, after which he started an internship in Tokyo.
