Is Rudy good?
Rudy tanks and sustains at the same time, repeatedly applying Link to keep something going, and he slows down enemy Awakening both through Awakening Gauge Reduction and a Stun on Counterattack. He leans on Damage Taken Reduction rather than outright blocking hits, and his healing only kicks in under certain conditions, so he can struggle to protect the team by himself.
His Awakening missions are easier to finish than most other Legendary heroes, so he's a reasonable one to awaken early.

Rudy now guards Terra Kingdom from Kris.
Rudy's succession to Knight of Light has earned him the title of Guardian of Light from the heroes of the Mystic Woods.
As the Knight of Light and the long-standing protector of the Mystic Woods, Rudy is acknowledged as the High Guardian by the people.
When the Power of Destruction swept across the continent, the king and nobles of the Terra Kingdom abandoned their people, using them as shields while scrambling to save themselves.
That's when Rudy stepped up. Rudy had just graduated from Luxtov Knight Academy, but his incredible strength and leadership helped him save countless villages on the fringes.
The people praised him, and countless villages throughout the Mystic Woods joined forces under his command.
Rudy had become such a powerful force that he had the absolute support of the people.
The king and nobles grew jealous and sought to entrap him, but as he prayed in the temple of the goddess Elena during a moment of crisis, white wings sprouted from his back.
The people rejoiced, believing this to be the will of the goddess Elena, and the king and nobles were forced to acknowledge Rudy's power and influence.
