Is Elena Renault good?

Elena Renault fills a Water-element support role built to boost the team's survivability and damage through a handful of stacked effects, including Tide of Silver, Obsession's Grasp, and Feral Gaze, all of which work best when the rest of the lineup is also Water-element. Her Basic Skill 1 also applies Winter Chill on hit, so she pairs naturally with any hunter whose kit leans on that effect.

Gearing her leans toward defense and core attack stats, which fits her role as someone who's meant to keep the team alive and hitting hard rather than carry damage herself.

Strengths

  • Stacked effects boost the whole team's survivability and damage
  • Applies Winter Chill on her basic skill, opening synergy with Winter Chill hunters
  • Works best in an all-Water lineup

Background

Elena Renault is a playable Hunter in Solo Leveling: ARISE.

The vice gild master of the Justitia guild, France's top guild.

Though once a D-Rank, she has reawakened as an A-Rank hunter.

Dossier #01: Forced Normalcy

Most people who saw her would probably say the same thing: everything about her was ordinary.

Her background, personality, her appearance...

nothing about her stood out.

Being ordinary wasn't the problem. It was the fear that she'd remain that way.

She wanted to change; become a brilliant jewel.

Even if she wasn't special, she still wanted a life that was.

But she knew she couldn't change. Better than anyone.

"I'll probably grow up to be a boring adult.

I'll always be the same person inside."

A jewel is born a jewel and a stone a stone, no matter how much you polish it.

She knew she'd never shine.

Then one day, she took part in an awakened being test held at her school.

Dossier #02: Life's Turning Point

After the test, she stared blankly at the paper in her hand.

"D-Rank." Near the bottom of the pile. A rank so low it was practically no different from E-Rank.

She gave a bitter smile as her heart-ached.

The large letter "D" felt like an evaluation of her life itself.

A small part of her had hoped that this test might become a turning point in her life.

A turning point that would bring light into it.

But in the end, a stone like her was never meant to shine.

At that moment, cheers suddenly erupted from somewhere nearby.

When she looked up, she saw Alicia Blanche, a senior one year above her.

She remembered: Alicia was known throughout the school as the daughter of an S-Rank hunter.

She was so self-assured, so popular...

Watching Alicia leave triumphant. Elena swallowed her bitter jealousy.

The test had only reminded her of her place.

As Elena was leaving the building alone, she noticed someone disappearing behind the far side of the building.

It was Alicia. But instead of her usual confidence, her face was filled with confusion and unease.

Why was she still here? And where was she going alone?

Elena quietly followed behind Alicia. She didn't know why she felt compelled.

At the end of that path, Elena found Alicia clutching her phone, her voice was trembling as she fought back tears.

"I'm worried. Do I really have what it takes to be an S-Rank hunter?"

That brilliant and beautiful persona was a mask.

Behind it was a frightened child, weighed down by the power she carried.

She wasn't a jewel: she was an ice crystal.

As Elena watched her, a strange glimmer appeared in her eyes

If she couldn't become a brilliant gem herself, then she would simply be the one who possessed it.

And Alicia would become the most brilliant gem she could claim: "I will make Alicia my puppet, no matter the cost."

That was the turning point in Elena's life.

Dossier #03: An Opening

From that day on, Elena quietly stayed around Alicia.

Close enough to approach, yet far enough to avoid attention.

She kept track of where Alicia went, who she met, and the conversations she had.

Using the information she gathered, Elena began approaching the people around Alicia.

Sometimes she pretend it was coincidence, sometimes she was introduced through acquaintances, and sometimes she simply paid them.

Even those who were wary of Elena and kept silent about Alicia quickly changed their attitude with a little push from her.

Before long, her notebook was filled with information about the S-Rank.

Matteo blanche was a national hero and the guild master of the Astraea Guild, France's greatest guild.

His daughter, Alicia, an S-Rank awakened being, was expected to inherit the guild as its next promising leader.

Yet beneath that perfect image was a girl full of weakness, one who could easily fall prey to her anxiety.

If she could slip into the cracks in her armor, she could grip Alicia's spirit like the prongs of a ring.

From the shadows, Elena watched Alicia and waited for her chance.

A chance to get closer to her than anyone else.

A chance to seize Alicia completely in a single move.

Dossier #04: A Timely Opportunity

The opportunity came sooner than she expected.

A Raid Break. The disaster of that day brough Astraea to a catastrophic downfall, and the people's anger and accusations poured onto Alicia, who was left to face it alone.

Seeing Alicia in that state, Elena smiled with a hint of exhilaration.

Every time Alicia's name was spoken among the crowd, Alicia would be wounded and reveal the cracks in her heart.

And Elena would be there to fill those cracks completely with herself.

Some time later, Alicia publicly declared that she would establish a guild to fill the void left by the Astraea Guild to protect the French people from magic beasts.

But more personally, it was to uncover the truth behind the Raid Break.

The public was far from sympathetic. People pointed fingers at her, claiming that by speaking of uncovering the truth behind the Raid Break, she was only trying to shift the blame for that's catastrophe away from herself.

Amid the storm of criticism, Elena became certain that the time for her to act had come.

After waiting so for long, Elena finally went to see Alicia and found herself doubting her own eyes.

Alicia looked completely different from the girl in her memories.

Her eyes were swollen and red from crying, dark circles shadowed beneath them, and the light had vanished from within.

Seeing Alicia standing far closer to the edge than she had expected, Elena had to fight to keep the smile from rising to her lips.

Dossier #05: The Serpent's Offer

People driven into a corner desparetly search for hope, but when that hope finally appears, they hesitate.

Suspicion, hesitation, and fear. Elena's task was to break those feelings down.

"It's been a while".

Elena spoke with a gentle smile and stirred a faint change in Alicia's expression.

Of course, Alicia didn't remember her. They had never actually met before.

Yet those words were enough to place the first crack in Alicia's strong defenses.

"Don't you remember me? We were friends in school.

I was a year below you."

"Oh, I'm sorry."

"It's alright. You're going through a difficult time.

I should be the one apologizing."

A sense of kinship from belonging to the same group.

The guilt of not remembering someone like that.

Understanding and sympathy. Alicia's guard began to lower, and Elena seized that moment.

Sometimes gently, sometimes firmly, Elena slowly swayed Alicia's heart and carefully brought it under her control.

Before long, Alicia was the one who started opening up first.

Slowly, little by little. At the end of their silent tug-of-war, the words Elena had been waiting for finally slipped from Alicia's lips.

"I need someone like you to help me."

Finally, that brilliant gem was in Elena's hands.
