Chu Yao protects his hardest-hitting ally while stacking debuffs on the enemy team. Sacrificial Rite tags a single target with Sear and Defense Down before calling in a teammate to assist, and his passive shields whichever ally has the highest Attack, cleansing both of them and banking energy whenever that ally gets hit, then following up with a full-team Pursuit Attack.

Time of Strife dispels enemy buffs while spreading Calamity, a debuff that makes the target take more damage and deal less the more other debuffs it's carrying. That combination of protecting his own carry and snowballing enemy debuffs earns him S.

With the power of Taiyi awakened within him, Chu Yao harbors fantasies of dominating heaven and earth.

Blessed with the power of Taiyi, Chu Yao is recognized as perhaps the most "divine" of all the Shadow Decree's Councilors.

After all, he looks the part, with his priestly garments and steely, placid eyes.

To Chu Yao, there are only two types of people: Powerful Espers, and weak, insignificant "others".

Career 2: To be a god is to be alone for eternity.

Coming from a family of shamans, Chu Yao realized at an early age that he was above the other believers, and closer to the gods.

Under his family's tutelage, it became instinctual for him to keep his distance from others.

Loneliness is nothing to be afraid of. To be a god is to be alone for eternity.

But one day, as he sat alone in a corner of the library, Chu Yao heard a woman's voice: "Do you think you could explain this math problem to me?"

Raven's arrival broke down the wall Chu Yao had built between himself and the world.

As two misfits, they found kindred spirits in one another.

The tenacious, optimistic Raven slowly became the person Chu Yao treasured most in all the world.

Career 3: The difference between strength and weakness.

All throughout his training, Chu Yao had been taught one thing: the weak must be sacrificed, not saved.

He watched Raven lose an eye trying to protect ordinary people, and as she and the Union came under fierce condemnation simply for dealing with an out-of-control test subject, his resolve only hardened.

Watching Raven suffer stirred up unfamiliar feelings for the first time in his life.

His anger, confusion, and pain left him unable to comprehend Raven's faith in the equality of all people.

Power was an expression of overwhelming, absolute will; order was decreed by the strong, and the weak could only beg to be spared.

When he received an invitation from Hyde, who had left the Union for the same reasons, he joined him and helped to found the Shadow Decree.

Chu Yao was determined to prove to Raven that he was right—even if it meant standing against her.

Career 4 / A new world.: Joining the Shadow Decree was only the first step.

Chu Yao wants to create a new world where Espers rule, so that he can prove that he has taken the right path.

Chu Yao looks down upon his pious, kneeling believers, and tells them to stick to the plan.

When the time is right, they will snatch fragments of the Miracle Nexus from the Esper Union.

As the steam rises from his teacup, Chu Yao stirs it with a spoon, skimming off the foam.

He is certain that one day, Raven will understand.
