Fu Shi builds Smokescreen stacks every round through his passive, and once he hits five stacks he becomes immune to all control effects, making him hard to lock down as a Defender. Billowing Strike blocks enemy buffs while he's at it, and Eightfold Mistblade ignores shields entirely when he needs to punish a protected target.

That built-in control immunity is a strong reason he sits at A.

Career 1: A cold-hearted researcher. Fu Shi joined the Shadow Decree ten years ago.

When not completing missions, he has spent most of that time brooding in his lab, conducting research into reversing Esper transformation.

Few have ever seen him smile. Colleagues who have worked alongside him for years get a curt nod at best before he quickly departs.

Shining metal apparatus, mechanical chirps, scattered papers...

everything around him is testament to the monumental effort he has expended.

Everything he has done is in service of one goal: to bring back Embla, the lover that Esperhood stole from him.

Career 2 / His shining sun.: Fu Shi was once an up-and-coming young Marshal.

When the Cube Miracle arrived, he found himself trapped inside it while helping others to escape.

Though many years have passed, he still remembers the agony of Miramon fangs tearing into his flesh—and the burning red blur that cut effortlessly through the monsters to save him.

His savior was none other than Embla of the Esper Seven.

To him, she appeared bright and glorious as the sun, and following in her wake, he joined the research effort into the Miracles.

The pair fell in love, and Fu Shi discovered the vast gulf between Embla and her Esperhood.

She was gentle, and even unsure of herself at times.

But Fu Shi loved the real Embla more.

Career 3 / A meaningless success.: While the pair were still at the Union, Fu Shi grew increasingly frustrated at his own ordinariness.

As Embla spent more time on the frontlines, her memory loss began to grow more severe.

All Fu Shi could do was console her; he could not share her burden, and this only pained him all the more.

Aggrieved by his own powerlessness, he turned his hopes toward the Artificial Esper Project, hoping that he might one day stand by Embla's side.

But all he could do was watch as the experiment went awry, and Embla dived headfirst into the abyss of her Esperhood.

No matter how he cried out to her, he could not save the lover he had lost.

Caught in a powerful shock wave, he gained the power of Suan Ni, and became an Esper.

But now, it meant nothing to him.

Career 4: A knight who serves only one mistress.

All that made Embla who she was had disappeared, leaving behind only an empty shell with an appetite for destruction.

Despite the Esper Seven's tireless efforts, they eventually had to come to terms with the truth: her personality was gone, never to return.

Fu Shi refused to believe it. His presence had stopped her attacks in the midst of a rage, bringing her back to a brief moment of lucidity.

He was certain there was a chance she might be restored to her former self.

Fu Shi swore that he would pay any price to bring her back.

After following Embla to the Shadow Decree, he has spent the past decade committed to his research into reversing Esper transformation.

When Embla protected others, there was nothing he could do.

Now, he can protect her at last.

He will be her sword and shield, her knight in shining armor.
