Chapter 1

Hippolyta encountered the Amazons after running away from her job as a midwife's assistant.

She had been ordered to abandon an unwanted infant girl and refused, fighting the elements to save the baby.

During her journey, she was rescued by the Amazons, who saved her from male slave traffickers.

The Amazons had been created by the goddesses Hestia, Artemis, Demeter, Hecate, Aphrodite, and Athena from the souls of murdered women at the Well of the Lost with one purpose: to bring men who abuse women to justice.

Chapter 2

The Amazons were split into six tribes, one for each of the six creator goddesses.

Hippolyta quickly adapted to Amazon life, rising through their ranks and soon becoming the queen of her own Amazon tribe.

During the day, they hid from the male gods, and at night, when Artemis could watch over them, they hid themselves to keep their existence a secret from Zeus and the other male gods.

This went well until one day, a young Amazon killed a trafficker's son while he was praying to Apollo and thus exposed their existence.

Chapter 3

The male gods became furious learning about the existence of the Amazons and retaliated by sending an all-male army to destroy the Amazons.

As the battle began, Hippolyta proved herself to be the most intelligent and brave of all the warriors and rose to become the unified leader of all the Amazon tribes.

She led them bravely in defense of their lives and purpose, but the war came at a great cost.

Many Amazons fell in the conflict.

Chapter 4

To save what remained of her sisters, Hippolyta bravely traveled to Olympus and struck a deal with Zeus: the Amazons' lives in exchange for eternal exile.

Zeus agreed with one exception: the one who killed the boy at the temple.

All Amazons, both the dead and the living, were granted long lives but would be forever imprisoned on the island of Themyscira.

They were kept under the watchful eyes of Apollo, the sun god, but Artemis was allowed to visit her warriors once a month.

During a time of intense grief, Hippolyta chose to make a clay baby girl.

The six goddesses blessed the child with gifts and reincarnated the soul of the infant the Queen of the Amazons was ordered to abandon within the clay child, granting it life.

The baby was named after the moon goddess, Diana...

and grew to be Wonder Woman.

Chapter 5

Diana was granted powers beyond even the mightiest Amazons.

The curious young girl wondered about life beyond Themyscira, but her mother warned the outside world was a place of violence that the Amazons had left long ago.

Then one day, a plane piloted by Captain Steve Trevor crashed on Themyscira.

Diana saved him from the burning aircraft.

He was the first human man she had ever seen.

The semiconscious Trevor muttered warnings of danger in the world outside.

Hippolyta realized that the Amazons were under threat if discovered and pondered what to do with their foreign visitor who washed up on their island home.

Eventually, she allowed her daughter to travel to the world of men, where Diana became both the ambassador from Themyscira and the superhero known as Wonder Woman.

Chapter 6

Though her daughter's choices sometimes worry Hippolyta, she is generally supportive, and she and her Amazons do what they can to support Diana.

Once Hippolyta declared Diana was no longer worthy to be Wonder Woman and held a contest to find a replacement, which was won by Artemis, an Amazon from a sister tribe that lived in the hidden Egyptian city of Bana-Mighdall, Artemis replaced Diana as Wonder Woman while Diana fought for justice on her own.

When Artemis was killed in battle, Hippolyta apologized and revealed she'd had a prophetic vision that Wonder Woman would die, so she declared Diana unworthy of being Wonder Woman in an attempt to save her daughter from that fate.
