Background

Overview

The unyielding lone bird summoning storms with his wings to protect his own.

"Please bear witness to this determination to pursue freedom." 「请见证吧,这份追求自由的意志。

If born into an ordinary family, Castor might have grown into a taciturn yet kind and grounded young man like a tree.

And now, he is the only one among the twins who retains a complete body and soul, silently waiting like a stone, burying the spark that once belonged to both in their youth in his heart, never giving up, never wavering.

That pair of matured wings, capable of stirring up a storm, gathers in hiding, as a bird quietly waits for the cage door to open, to soar in the sky once more.

(Introduction)

Body, wings, heart—all torn asunder by unrelenting pain.

The Sin-Effacement Rite begins its sacred work upon the traitor.

If yearning for freedom is itself a sin, then no iron cage could ever break the spirit of this captive bird.

They stripped his soul raw, turned his kin—born of his own flesh—against him, and erase him utterly from the memory of the world.

Ah… how pure! How thoroughly divine, this punishment!

Archive Group: Foolish One

One of the series of experimental subjects cultivated by the Temple Light Church for the ritual of descent, spared from being discarded into the trash heap due to being born as twins.

Alongside his younger brother Pollux, he was revered as a holy child from a young age, subjected to strict discipline, instilled daily with theology related to the light bearer.

The only information about the outside world he came into contact with was a beautifully heavy hand-copied book offered by a believer.

In his youth, after his brother underwent a cruel modification ritual by the church, the two decided to escape together in the pursuit of freedom, but were soon recaptured.

He was immersed in a pool of ion dissolution, known as the "Sins Abyss" to heal wounds with the "Sins Therapy," enduring prolonged torment.

As a result, he was ultimately forgotten by all except Juliette, including Pollux, and his relationship with his brother became strained.

Since then, he has lain dormant, outwardly pretending to obey the church, but inside, he has never given up the obsession of escaping with his brother again, always waiting for a chance to regain freedom.

Character Stories

| Story · One (Affinity Level 3)

While performing a mission far from Londinium, in a plateau that is rarely known due to its barrenness, I happened to discover an astonishing story in a mountain village where few residents remained.

On the night the monster appeared, the sky seemed to be covered by some strange shadow, with fog rolling on the ground, and a dim green color rising from the deep within the clouds— it was definitely not a simple natural phenomenon, but a projection of a living, breathing entity.

Deep in the desolate mountains with towering trees, a wave of furious, roaring sound suddenly erupted, a scream that did not belong to any creature stirred the deepest instincts of human fear.

A massive shadow swiftly flew past; the entire mountain trembled along with that shadow that blocked the sun, and the branches and leaves of all trees trembled in unison, creating a harmonious whispering rustle.

"I saw it! Those long, dense tentacles, those eyes glowing green, that is definitely the source of that terrifying shadow in the sky.

It spotted me, and even fixed its stare on me!

I truly thought my life would end at that moment, but perhaps it had just had a feast, for before I lost consciousness from suffocation, it mercifully turned away." This was the only interview with a formal witness; a villager still deeply trapped in nightmares refuses to recall more details.

However, from the existing signs observed, this enormous dark green monster, aside from devastating parts of the forest like a hurricane and leaving behind a few beast remains with only traces of blood, has shown no greater aggressiveness, behaving like a normal feasting beast.

Perhaps its approach to the village was merely an act of curious peeping.

But facing any unknown terror, we clearly must prepare for the worst scenario.

I will continue my investigation in the ███████ plateau for half a month.

if there are any other noteworthy signs of danger, I will supplement them in the mission report.

| Story · Two (Affinity Level 5)

The feelings of interacting with Castor usually present two bizarre extremes.

On the surface, his overly serious and composed personality resembles that of a middle-aged clerk who has worked at the Londinium Bank for twenty years: rigid, unromantic, drained of all vitality by monotonous work.

When he frowns, he indeed carries a saint-like demeanor that doesn't get angry and yet exudes authority.

However, upon slightly deeper interaction, you will find that all his seemingly conservative behaviors stem from his extremely scarce knowledge, and unparalleled bluntness, to the extent that he takes any joke directly at him completely seriously.

He often holds a thick notebook, incessantly questioning the Keeper as if he were a toddler still learning to speak, and when faced with that overly sincere gaze, most people find it hard to voice any disdain toward those ignorant questions.

Except for scriptures related to various beliefs, Castor is thirsty for any fresh knowledge, especially about modern society and modern science: he even has developed a strong interest in experimental research.

After being ruthlessly ignored by Melting Doll, he turned to catch the poor Winkle who escaped from him daily.

If he were in a school classroom, he would be that type of diligent student adored by teachers, he does not consider studying a chore but rather views the freedom to absorb interesting knowledge as a heartfelt happiness.

However, compared to the teacher's contentment, some boastful Awakeners are actually infuriated when faced with his endless logical questioning, unable to answer subsequently, leaving behind a bewildered Castor who reflects upon the profound difficulty of learning and the long road ahead.

| Story · Three (Affinity Level 7)

What is the price of seeking freedom and escaping the Church?

The twins anticipated terrifying punishment, even anticipated losing their own Life, but they never thought that the most painful thing was never physical torture, but the soul's ordeal.

Castor watched with eyes widening in horror as Pollux's precious, lively, and beautiful wings were brutally torn off.

His lips bitten to blood by his own teeth, he waited in frenzied guilt, even longing for the same pain to come upon himself.

However, Juliette just waved, and Castor, as if a broken sack of heavy wounds, was fully taken away and thrown into a pool filled with D-slime to undergo "Sin Therapy".

Black ooze soaking wounded Body penetrated every wound, covering every feather, making it increasingly difficult for Castor to breathe.

In the repetitively corroding and healing wounds, the plucked wings swirled in the hazy mind of Castor.

He sat restlessly in the narrow cage, wishing to bear all the torment for his brother.

How much it wished it was him whose wings were plucked that day, later he firmly decided, he would surely use these wings to lead his brother to fly to freedom again.

Castor supported himself in this hellish pool day by day, in agony, time could no longer be accurately perceived.

Seemingly waiting for many years, Castor almost died once before crawling out from the black Hell again, met with a cold and disdainful gaze.

"Put away your disgusting look, and I advise you, Mr.

Castor, you and I merely serve the Son of the Lamp Bearer together.

There's no need to be too intimate behind the scenes, it only adds to the irritation." Castor didn't know why his brother completely forgot him, but he finally understood what Juliette's meaningful look when leaving the Sin Pool meant— simply because she had securely tightened the most controlling collar on him, fearing nothing.

| Story · Four (Affinity Level 9)

The twins were born with nothing but each other, and Castor has always been tasting the flavor of loss.

Hurt, forgotten, betrayed, his silent is not made of stone, but he keeps getting back up.

"But it doesn't matter, I will persist for your part as well." Castor looked at his unrecognizable brother, blindly believing.

In his heart, he tightly grasped that faint flicker, continuing his journey against the knife-like wind and snow.

Someday, he will climb to the summit of freedom, to touch touch the low-hanging veil of the sky with his wings.

He believes that at the end of that thorny path, the bright daylight his brother promised in childhood awaits.

Strike | He has never been taught any battle skills, but the power to resist is already rooted in his instincts.

Defense | To combat brutal exploitation, to resist those repeated losses, he would forever Shield his younger brother with these wings.

Until every feather turns to ash, until he steps into the gates of death.

Rouse | "Brother, if we use our wings and keep flying, how high can we go?

Can we fly above the clouds to touch the moon and stars?" "Maybe...

we can. Then we'll need a pair of very big, strong wings." The deep and dreamy galaxy and constellations in the manuscript reflect into the children's dreams, becoming a seed of wish buried in their hearts.

Umbral Flight | He is not one to endlessly endure without fighting back; those wings can also stir up a furious vortex.

All flesh will be torn apart by the wind's sharp teeth, bloodily dragged into the belly of death.

But there is no fear, he will place your name in the eye of the hurricane, in the tranquility at its very center.

Stygian Wings | His wings spread open like a broad shield, each feather linked to a sturdy skeleton, fluttering overhead.

That black shadow wraps around you, Shielding all sunlight, wind, rain, and harm, sustaining a safe sky.

"Don't touch it, just let these dark curses return entirely to the chest of the aggressors."
