1. Apologetic fireworks
59 linesGraywater: Hunter's Guild Tavern
*Gulp**Gulp* Hahahaha!
(Brewster sits at the round table in the corner, chugging down a whole pint of ice-cold beer.)
(His big, fluffy tail seems unusually relaxed, and it slightly waves back and forth as he is in a great mood.)
Ice-cold drinks are the best! Oh, even better when matched with beef jerky!
Hey bartender, gimme some of that beef jerky I love!
You got it. Here's your beef jerky, bud.
Oh, by the way, this is for you.
(It's a heart-shaped aluminum box wrapped with a red paper. Brewster holds the box and sniffs it suspiciously.)
A couple is having their wedding ceremony here, so they're giving everyone a gift box of wedding candies.
Oh, I was going to shoot it in case there was something dangerous inside...
......
*wink* Hahaha. Just kidding!
Please convey my greetings to the couple for me. I wish them congratulations on the wedding and hope they have a happy marriage.
(After sending the bartender away, Brewster merrily jumps off his chair and starts to walk out, scratching his butt.)
Crap, I drank too much. Gotta take a piss.
(Brewster swaggers out the back of the bar and spots a sneaky figure in the alleyway.)
That smell... Hey, that's gunpowder!
Hey, you there! Show yourself!
???
What are you doing?
Emm... Well.
That's gunpowder, isn't it? You can't fool my powerful nose...
Shhh! Shhh!!!
?
What's with the attitude? Huh?
(Brewster feels utterly offended, he takes out his rocket cannon and aims at Unky Chai.)
(At Brewster's threat, Unky Chai readies himself for a fight.)
Who are you?
I may have just been on my way to take a piss, but now I'm here to stop whatever trouble you're brewing!
Kid, you should really ask around about me in Hazlitt.
I won't allow anyone to ruin my perfect plan...
Humph. What perfect plan? You here to cause some destruction?
You Hazlitt people are always making trouble.
You'd better take that back.
(Brewster and Unky Chai glare at one another for a while, daggers in their eyes. Finally, Brewster makes the first move.)
Dang it. Now I ain't in the mood for a piss. Tsk, curse you!
Tell you what, today's a special day. I ain't gonna let an ol' baldy cause a ruckus here, but we can forget about it if you get outta here.
What a cocky kid!
You wanna stop me? You'll have to deal with this string in my hand first!
(With their rage boiling over, the two start fighting behind the bar.)
(The fight suddenly stops when Brewster breaks the hydrant with a cannon shot. The water spurts out, drenching the cloth-covered cargo box nearby.)
Nooooooooo!!!!!
(Unky Chai rushes over to the box and uncovers it, but it's too late. The firework fuses have already been soaked.)
I knew it! You're taking advantage of the wedding ceremony to cause trouble!
It's all soaked... all ruined...
I was going to light these fireworks as part of the wedding celebration! Thanks for ruining my surprise!!!
(Unky Chai casts an anxious look at his watch.)
They should be taking photos at the entrance of the bar by now...
???
(Seeing Unky Chai at a loss, Brewster realizes he had misunderstood the situation.)
...Ah, well... You know what? This ain't no problem. You want fireworks? I got you covered.
(Brewster meets Unky Chai's doubtful look and aims his rocket cannon at the sky.)
I'm not sure what'll happen next, only that we're gonna get some explosions!
You suppose that's the right direction? Then here, watch this!
(As the couple kisses, a loud bang comes from the sky as a strange-looking "firework" explodes high above.)
(*Click* The wedding photographer snaps a wonderful picture of the perfect moment.)
(As the smoke disperses from the rooftop, Brewster watches the cheerful crowd down below and shakes his fluffy ears.)
Tsk, consider that my apology. Happy wedding, you bastards.
2. Tough Guy & Some Chocolate
50 linesGraywater: Hunter's Guild Tavern
Let me make this clear first, I'm only gonna have a couple drinks today.
All right, all right.
Hey guys, your usual?
Our usual? What does that mean?
(The two fix their eyes on a delicately wrapped box with a handwritten greeting card on it.)
"To the cutest person... in the world?"
Oh, a customer put that there. They said it's for the person who regularly sits here every night.
And, well, you're the only customers who match that description.
Oh? So this is a gift for us?
To you... more precisely...
C'mon, just move it away. There's no room to put my beef jerky down.
Hold on, why are you so certain it's for me?
Really?
You're always giving people a helping hand. I'm sure someone gave this to you as thanks.
Besides, don't you see what's written on the card?
"To the...cutest person... in the world..."
You aren't that cute, but I'm even less cute than you. So, that means it's gotta be for you.
(Brewster pushes the box of chocolates towards Lu Yi and raises his arms, flexing his muscles.)
See, I'm a tough guy, not a cute one!
Your fluffy fur seems cu...
(Before Lu Yi finishes his sentence, Brewster smacks him upside the head.)
Shut up!
Tell you what, everybody knows I hate...
(A girl at the next table over stands up and walks over to them before Brewster can finish.)
Excuse me... Actually, I was the one who left the box of chocolates.
Well... I intended to... give it to Mr. Brewster.
?!
Perhaps you've forgotten, but when I got attacked by Miramon the other day...
You showed up and saved the day...
Though you were a little far from me, I totally remembered your face.
(Lu Yi nudges the baffled Brewster with his elbow and whistles.)
See! The chocolates are for you, big hero.
Huh? Oh, I was just passing by and took out some nasty Miramon.
No need to thank me for that... As for the gift..
(Brewster is only half finished, but the girl bits her lips and sadly lowers her head, tears forming in her eyes.)
Well...As for the gift... You didn't need to ask the bartender to put it on my table...
You can just give it to me!
(The girl raises her head excitedly.)
I thought you didn't want my gift!
Hahaha, you worry too much.
I made the chocolates on my own. I hope you'll like them...
For sure! I love eating chocolate. All hail delicious chocolates!
(As if to convince the girl he's telling the truth, Brewster unfolds the box and stuffs a piece of chocolate into his mouth.)
Whoa! It's amazing!
(The girl chuckles upon seeing Brewster's bulging cheeks. She expresses her thanks again and turns to leave.)
(Suddenly, Brewster's face darkens.)
T-take me... to the hospital...
I...I'm allergic... to chocolate...
Brewster?! Hang on, Brewster!!!
3. Crazy
44 linesGraywater District: Abandoned Mine
Curse these Miramon...
Calm down, Brewster!
You promised me that you'll be more cautious in battles and keep an eye on your surroundings.
(Brewster makes no reply, fully concentrated on a Miramon.)
Every time we're out on duty, thanks to your inability to control your temper, you end up blasting some public facilities with your rocket cannons.
Come on, man. I really don't want to spend half my reward money fixing your collateral damage! It's my hard-earned bounty!
(*Boom* A Miramon turns to ash under Brewster's blast.)
(But the attack also inflicts some damage on the nearby observation tower. The wall shows a few cracks as it shakes.)
......
Hey! Are you listening to me?
Tsk, you're so annoying.
That tower is long abandoned. We won't be fined for it.
Brewster? Why do you keep stepping back?!
(Brewster keeps attacking the Miramon as he slowly moves back.)
(By the time he realizes it, he has retreated all the way up to the abandoned tower and is now surrounded by Miramon.)
Listen, go find some cover. Try to delay them as much as you can.
That tower could collapse at any time. DO NOT FIRE YOUR WEAPON!
......
Wait for me to finish off the Miramon I'm dealing with, then I'll lure the Miramon surrounding you away!
....You better be fast.
(Brewster hides his tiny body behind a concrete pillar.)
One, two, three, four... Thirty!
30 seconds have passed. How much longer do you need?!
......
Be patient, Brewster. Just gimme a little more time to deal with these nasty Miramon.
......
(Brewster starts to fret as he sees the Miramon walking around trying to find him.)
Hiding behind a pillar is so unlike me! That's it. I've had enough!
Yo, what you lookin' for? Ya wanna get a taste... of my cannon?!
*ROAR*
(Brewster aims the rocket launcher as he spins around, laughing aloud while firing one shot after another.)
(The loud explosions hide Lu Yi's screams. Suddenly, Brewster feels the ground start to shake.)
(More cracks appear from the tower walls and debris begins to fall.)
Brewster! Stop it! You're in danger! Get outta there!
Oops... Did that shot hit a support pillar...
Hahaha, Lu Yi, I've got an excellent idea on how to wipe them out!
Whatever you're thinking, don't do it!
(Brewster aims at the base of the shaking tower and fires once more, causing the tower to collapse.)
Brewster!!!
(When Lu Yi gets to the ruins, he sees Brewster pushing away the rubble and squeezing his way out.)
(He climbs on top of the ruins, crosses his arms, and laughs aloud.)
Screw waiting, I can just blow this place apart!! Feels sooooo good!!!
...You... *Sigh*
4. Destroy Everything
46 linesDixie Mountains: Near the Desert Miracle
Finally, we wiped out all the Miramon... That was awesome!
O, Flower of Desolation, I shall give you the blessings of manna and honeydew...
What are you going on about?
(Hands closed, Alice whispers a few words and mercilessly uproots a blooming wildflower.)
...Oh, I thought you were giving that flower a blessing so it would grow.
(She places the flower in a glass jar and cocks her head, casting a confused look at Brewster.)
I was just making it feel better before I pulled it out of the earth.
...Fine, but let me give you some advice. You should go somewhere else if you just wanna pick flowers.
This place is filled with Miramon. It's quite dangerous.
I can't do that. The wildflowers that I need to collect can only be found here, according to an ancient codex.
Ancient codex? What do you mean?
I've found a mysterious recipe.
(Alice takes out an aged, yellow piece of paper. It's covered in some strange runes.)
Pinecones, milk...
What's so special about those things? You can buy stuff like that at any convenience store.
It's not as easy as you think. There are detailed instructions written below that one needs to follow.
For the pinecones, I must head to Raine Tundra and search the first snowy peak for the tallest pine tree.
The milk must come from the cow with two black spots and one yellow spot on its back. That cow can only be found on the Palau Plateau.
Seriously? Come on, that's some strangely specific instructions from those runes.
(Alice faces Brewster's doubtful gaze and shakes her head seriously.)
These ancient runes could be linked to the Miracles. As an occultist, it's my duty to uncover their secrets.
However strange or distant a manuscript might be, I'll do my best to find it and verify its contents.
I'm not sure what this recipe will make, but I'm curious enough to try making it.
"The more effort you put in, the sweeter the fruit you get."
I heard that somewhere before.
Deciphering the codex and finding the ingredients at the same time is really time-consuming. I don't know how long it will take to finish.
Well... I can help you find the legendary ingredients...
On one condition though, you let me have a taste of whatever you cook with the recipe.
Deal.
(For the next three months, Brewster helps track down ingredients for Alice while completing his bounty missions.)
(Whenever he feels annoyed by how troublesome it can be, he thinks of the unknown dish and persuades himself to not give up.)
(Finally, Alice is able to make the mysterious dish.)
Graywater: Hunter's Guild Tavern
I came the moment I got your news!
It's actually the first time I've spent so much time on one thing. Well done, Brewster! Hahaha!
So what did you make?? Must be tasty, huh? Lemme try!!!
(In contrast to Brewster's excitement, Alice seems hesitant.)
Well... Uh....
?
(Alice slowly reveals the food she made.)
(It's a piece of chocolate, an ordinary and typical looking piece of chocolate.)
...Do you like chocolate?
(Brewster stares at Alice for a bit, motionless. Then he narrows his eyes and feigns a smile.)
Has it occurred to you that chocolate is deadly to a canine like me?
(He maintains his smile as he takes the chocolate, made with so much time and effort, throws it to the sky, and blasts it into pieces.)
5. Try On
54 linesGraywater: Hunter's Guild Tavern
Who are you?! I keep seeing you around. Are you stalking me?
*Cursing* What the heck do you want?
(A girl walks out from behind the street corner. She's staring at Brewster's tail.)
I don't bite. Please. Can I just talk to you about something? You know, your tail is so adorable!
Can I touch it?
???
I ain't no stray dog. I'm not gonna let you touch my tail.
Go on, get! Keep it up and... and... I'll give you a lesson in manners.
(The girl takes no notice of Brewster's threat. She takes out a costume and presents it to Brewster.)
I made this for you.
Please! Try it on! Do it, and I'll pick up the tab for all your drinks in the bar!
(Although irritated, the proposal is tempting. Brewster grabs the costume and examines it thoroughly.)
Let's see what's worth a free meal and a few jugs of beer...
(The delicate fabric is obviously a product of skilled tailoring. Whoever made it must have put in a lot of effort.)
(I can't believe it!)
Girl, are you sure? How do I know this isn't some kind of trick?
Oh no! Eat and drink to your heart's content, please! I can easily afford it.
Deal!
No... Show me the money first.
(Brewster enjoys his expensive drinks and fine meal first before putting on the girl's costume.)
(He checks himself out in the mirror and struts out of the restroom with more than a hint of pride.)
(Not bad. Not bad at all.)
Hey, weird girl. Your wish is my command.
(The girl circles around Brewster, nodding and grinning in delight.)
It's soooo adorable!!!
Hang on, let me take some pictures!
Wait... You didn't mention anything about pictures! Come on.
All right. Maybe just one. To prove what a nice guy I am.
Just take the darned picture. It's a tough pose I'm doing!
(Later on, the girl flips through the hundreds of photos she has taken and, finally satisfied, puts her phone away.)
You done?
Yep. You can keep the costume. It suits you.
See you tomorrow!
?!
(Several days later...)
(Brewster sits down at the bar, grabs his pint, drains it, and lets out a loud belch.)
*Gulp* Haha!
That weirdo's picking up the tab for me here. Pretty sweet deal!
And you get to enjoy a little cosplay too? Heh.
What's wrong with that? Ain't no easier job than that.
She pays the money, I wear what she wants. Nice doing business with you, heh!
Some of the outfits are a little odd, I admit. But who cares anyway?
"Who cares"? You really dig the outfits, dude!
Your tail wags like crazy every time you try on a new one!
(Lu Yi points at the handmade fluffy rabbit ears still on Brewster's head.)
You didn't even take them off. Clearly, you like them.
?!
(Brewster takes off the rabbit ears carefully. He holds them in his hands for a moment, unsure of what to do.)
I... don't!
(He finishes his last pint and storms out.)
(His tail is pointing angrily up at the sky. It could be mistaken for a giant feather duster from a distance.)
Hey! Stop! I've printed off some of the photos she took! Look!
They look pretty good, dude! I'll hang them up in the bar! Hahaha!
