Is Charlotte good?
Charlotte's ultimate comes online after she lands a basic attack, and holding her dash button lets her dodge through hits without taking damage while it's active. There's a neat trick to her kit too: tag her out right after her second basic skill following the ultimate and she stays on the field for extra hits before actually leaving.
Her damage scales off Defense, so tanky stat gear doubles as her damage gear.
Strengths
- Damage scales off Defense, so tanky stats double as offense
- Dash lets her dodge safely while her ultimate is active
- Tag-out trick after her ultimate squeezes in extra hits before leaving the field
Profile
Charlotte is voiced by Cristina Vee Valenzuela in English.
Background
Charlotte is a playable Hunter in Solo Leveling: ARISE.
Harper's cold-hearted older sister and a member of the Helper's strike squad.
She's the brains of her team, and making mischievous plans is her hobby.
Dossier #01: The Way of the World
"I'm sick of being ignored."
Charlotte's eyes began to narrow as she waited for her turn at show-and-tell...
but it never came. She didn't want to wait another second before Sister Millie her artwork.
Sister Millie had been listening to a girl named Marie's story for over ten minutes.
It seemed like she didn't notice that the other children were waiting.
No surprise there: Marie was the most spoiled child in the orphanage.
She wanted everyone to pay attention to her, and if they didn't, she would burst into tears.
Once Marie started crying, the younger kids would too, and it was impossible to stop the waterworks.
Sister Millie had no choice but to give Marie what she wanted.
"Crying doesn't solve everything. That's the way of the world.
I need to teach her that."
Charlotte's eyes began to sparkle as she wrote a "lesson plan" in her mind on how she would "educate" Marie.
The next day, there was a commotion at the orphanage.
While everyone was asleep, someone had drawn all over Marie's face: "I'm the dummy who can do nothing but cry.
Call me a crybaby."
When Marie awoke and approached the mirror, her face turned bright red,, as if she was going to explode.
Then, the massive tears began to roll down her face.
The children who were watching teased Maire, just as the words instructed.
"She's crying again, that crybaby." Soon after, Marie burst into tears again.
It was all according to plan.
Charlotte's lips rose into a slight smirk as she passed by the noisy scene, then just as quickly fell back into her usual mask of stoicism.
The nuns unanimously decided it was Harper who drew on Marie's face.
Her handwriting was far too unique to be mistaken for anyone else's.
However, Sister Millie knew.
The real mastermind of this mischievous prank was someone else.
And she suspected it was Harper's sister Charlotte.
Dossier #02: The Architect
Harper and Charlotte grew up in a countryside orphanage run by the church.
They were abandoned at its doorstep as newborns.
Maybe that's why the two had such an unshakable bond.
They were only two people they each trusted at the orphanage: their sister, and their primary caretaker, Sister Millie.
While it's not unusual for children to crave attention from their caretakers, the sisters were particularly obsessed with approval from Sister Millie.
The sisters' need grew worse as they grew up.
Any children that received special attention from Sister Millie began to have unexplainable injuries, or their favorite items started to disappear.
Sister Millie grew aware of this.
However, the clever sisters were swift and meticulous.
It was impossible to punish them when they left no evidence.
Sister Millie had no choice but to come up with an alternative plan.
So, she gave the sisters a job.
She asked the sisters to become the orphanage protectors with the responsibility of protecting everyone else.
The siters couldn't hide their discontent.
They had no love for the things or the people they had been asked to "protect."
But they couldn't refuse a job from Sister Millie herself.
They had to do whatever it took to get Sister Millie's attention.
The sisters begrudgingly carried out their task with the same cleverness and skill they had always used.
And just like that, there was peace at the orphanage.
Dossier #03: A Moment of Peace
No road is free of bumps and bends. For every easy downhill slope, there's an uphill slog waiting on the other side.
Before they could even get used to the quiet, it vanished.
Gates began to appear near the nursery.
It wasn't long after the first gate appearances worldwide.
The newly-formed British Hunters Association was unable to properly carry out their role.
They barely managed to handle most gates, and certainly couldn't handle them all.
It didn't make sense to call a private guild or strike squad.
The orphanage couldn't afford their fees, and their requests were often rejected outright.
Whatever they couldn't find someone to handle the gates, Sister Millie would step in.
she locked the door of the church and left, after asking them to make a promise to wait quietly until she returned.
After closing a particular gate, she was bedridden for several days.
When the children approached her worriedly, all she could do was give them a weak and faint smile.
The sisters were no longer happy simply being 'orphanage protectors'.
They couldn't protect the person they wanted to protect most.
One day, they followed Sister Millie towards a gate.
She shouted at them to hurry back to the church, an unfamiliar severity appearing in her features for the first time.
Then, her face softened. "You've been given a purpose.
You must carry it out." Sister Millie said.
The sister nodded and returned to the church, a deep sadness within them.
Dossier #04: The Right Thing to Do
That sadness became an anxiety that was always lurking deep in the sisters' hearts.
It was rooted in the thought that someone precious to them might disappear in an instant.
And that fear was realized sooner than expected.
Once again, a gate appeared near the church.
The Hunters Association was called, but replied that they couldn't get to them.
The number of gates appearing around the world had suddenly started to increase in number, and since the Association hunters to had to be dispatched first to places that weren't capable of handling them, there wasn't anyone who could help the orphanage.
However, they didn't forget to mention that they had hired other guilds and individuals from other regions and sent them to the church, so they were certain they would be able to handle it somehow.
They didn't. In the end, the next gate that appeared near the church again became Sister Millie's responsibility.
On the sixth day after the gate appeared, Sister Millie waited in front of the gate for the people the Hunters Association recruited, but they never showed up.
It looked like monsters would burst from the portal at any moment.
It wasn't uncommon for strike squads to be late, or for them to simply break their contract.
So Sister Millie had no choice but to enter the dungeon alone, and wasn't able to come out until later than usual.
It was clear that something happened inside the dungeon.
The sisters calmly guarded the church as protectors the Sister Millie asked them to be.
But the next day, at sunrise, they left the church.
As protectors it was time to protect the person they cared about the most.
Dossier #05: A Dangerous Game
The sisters approached the gate.
They hadn't yet told anyone that they had awakened, and knew it would come as a surprise to everyone, including Sister Millie, but right now, saving their loved noes was the top priority.
Having made up their minds, they entered the dungeon without hesitation.
And when they finally arrived, the sisters found Sister Millie fighting not the boss, but a mysterious woman.
The sisters lunged towards the woman without hesitation.
Although they had no combat experience, they were skilled at controlling their powers, and the two were so in sync that they easily cornered the woman.
But the woman was also a tough opponent.
The difference in experience couldn't be overlooked.
As the fight went on, the sisters were losing steam.
Soon, the woman's pistols the woman was holding were pointed at the sisters' foreheads.
However, the woman didn't pull the trigger.
Instead, she cackled through her creepy smile.
"Now, let's play a game!"
She suggested they play Russian Roulette.
They had no choice. If they fled, not only their lives but also Sister Millie's life would be in danger.
The sisters, who had no choice but to accept the woman's offer, and exchanged glances while the woman set up her gun for a spin.
It would be great if the woman were to shoot herself, but they quietly decided.
If one of them were chosen, the other would immediately take Sister Millie and run away.
After a few moments of mixed tension and thrill, the woman pulled the trigger at her temple.
Dossier #06: A Protector's Duty
It was empty.
It was the sister's turn. Exchanging glances again, they nodded.
Harper took the gun.
Harper went first. Harper held the gun to her own head and prayed that Charlotte would be able to escape unharmed if thing went wrong.
She wasn't scared.
Her sister was her other half. A trustworthy presence in moments of fearsome crisis like this.
And it was the moment for her to bravely pull the trigger.
Suddenly, someone took the gun from Harper's hand.
Having snatched the pistol, Sister Millie pulled the trigger in the direction of the woman.
Bang-!
The heard the gunshot, but luck wasn't on their side.
The bullet narrowly missed, grazing the woman's ear.
The woman's face became twisted as she turned towards Sister Millie.
And before the sisters could react, a hail of bullet poured down.
Sister Millie had no strength to dodge. She spoke to the sisters, falling into a pool of red.
"Run and lives your lives. Carry out your duty as protectors."
The sisters turned their gazes from Sister Millie on the ground to look at one another with gritted teeth.
While the woman approached the body, they fled.
They saw her take the small pendant necklace Sister Millie was wearing, but the sisters couldn't stop.
They were heartbroken to see that precious keepsake in her blood-stained hands, but they had to fulfill Sister Millie's dying wish.
They had to live. They needed to help to arrest the killer.
They had to protect the church.
They had to fulfill their duty as protectors.
It was their last promise to Sister Millie.
