Yamato works best surrounded by other Defenders, or specifically alongside Yuuhime, since his ultimate scales its Rashomon stacks off how many of those allies are on the field and even grants Yuuhime an extra turn. Those stacks boost his own crit resistance, Attack, and Defense, and get spent for bonus true damage whenever he attacks, while getting hit refills his action points instead.

On top of that he can stun repeatedly with Death Grasp and block buffs across the whole enemy team with Thunder Surge. That much team synergy and self-sustain earns him S tier.
