Typhoeus

After our last visit, I can't help but feel that we missed something.

So I came back, looked around beneath the snow, and found these small stone tablets.

The small stone tablets have runic inscriptions linked to the big stone stele. Together, they form an altar.

According to the Snowpriestess's diary, I think she was trying to build an altar so that at the final moments of her life, she could try to go deeper into dreamscape and find Sami.

Don't worry, Endmin. I've already found a way to freely enter and leave the dreamscape.

It won't be like last time, when we had big trouble navigating the fog.

There are missing runes on the tablets. Recreating the ritual will be difficult.

I read through the Snowpriestess's notes again, and searched the entire forest. I just couldn't find the missing runes.

As for the missing runes, we must find them in the dreamscape as well.

So I pondered long and hard and finally came up with an idea.

The Snowpriestess probably performed the ritual in dreamscape. She attempted to enter a dream within a dream.

Your choice

Is there anything on these stone tablets?

What are these small stone tablets for?

A dream within a dream?

Dream within dreams? Now I'm curious.

Then I'll get to enjoy the beauty of dreamscape this time.

Typhoeus

Endmin, those are the stone tablets she left behind.

The runes on the tablets are key. Complete them and we'll have a way to enter the "dream within dreams".

3. Part 3

2 lines

A stone tablet. The runic inscriptions seem incomplete.

The translation reads: "Silvery the dew, spring soil soaked; sprout again the withered twigs..."

4. Part 4

2 lines

A stone tablet. The runic inscriptions seem incomplete.

The translation reads: "...rippling light, shimmering lake; midsummer dream lingers on."

5. Part 5

2 lines

A stone tablet. The runic inscriptions seem incomplete.

The translation reads: "Charred twigs ... red raspberries; autumn sets in, bright and new."

6. Part 6

2 lines

A stone tablet. The runic inscriptions seem incomplete.

The translation reads: "Dimly lit ... a cold night; heavens and earth, veiled in snow."

Endmin, I've started the ritual for entering the dreamscape. We can set off anytime.

Hoo... This time, getting around the place should be far easier.

So there's nothing to worry about.

Endmin, I want to find the Snowpriestess in this dreamscape jaunt. I want a proper ending to her story.

Fate always dealt a cruel hand when it comes to ending a story.

Maybe she had an accident in the dream. Perhaps she completely lost herself to it?

My people said the lorekeeper should know when to stop writing. Perhaps this story shouldn't have an ending.

You

Not every story gets an ending, but there's always an ending for every person.

It doesn't matter who you are. No one should face their ending alone.

Let's go keep her company. We should have done this earlier.

Typhoeus

You're right, Endmin.

Let's go keep her company.

Your choice

Well, you still look pretty nervous to me.

8. Part 8

Typhoeus

Endmin, we can begin once you're ready.

Your choice

I'm ready. Let's begin.

Please wait a bit. I need to do something first.

9. Part 9

New runes... They read: "No way forward seen; gaze upon the path already made."

What does it mean? It doesn't seem related to the stone tablets we came across... But the old Snowpriestess wouldn't leave it here for no reasons.

We should note this down. Maybe it'll be useful later on.

10. Part 10

"Green sprouts"?

Spring has arrived. The withered tree beneath the snow is sprouting new buds.

We can use it to complete the tablet that represents "spring".

???

That's how it is.

I remember. She left behind something like this!

You

Typh, what's that on your hand?

Typhoeus

Is this... a paper of notes?

???

Of course it is. She left it behind, but I took it away.

Typhoeus

Is the dream helping us too...?

11. Part 11

5 lines
Typhoeus

"Fin".

Shimmering fins swimming in summertime overlapping with ripples of the lake... It feels so nostalgic.

We found the rune that represents "summer".

Hmm?

The notes smell like fowlbeasts. Are they trying to help us?

12. Part 12

5 lines
Typhoeus

"Withered leaf"...

Autumn is the season when leaves yellow and wither, and the time for foraging raspberries.

This must be the rune for "autumn".

Thank you.

???

(Joyful noises)

13. Part 13

8 lines
Typhoeus

But we haven't found any runes for "winter"...

This shouldn't be happening. I followed the Snowpriestess's clues. Each and every one of them.

"No way forward seen; gaze upon the path already made"?

Endmin, does that mean we should ... look back at the way we took?

No wonder we couldn't find it all this time.

Spring births. Summer nourishes. Autumn harvests. Winter keeps... They must be kept within this snowy realm.

Your choice

Remember the stone tablet we saw in this place?

Remember the first set of runes we read in this place?

14. Part 14

6 lines
Typhoeus

"Torch".

During long winter nights, we Samifjod would put burning torches outside our homes to give light in the sun's absence.

This is the last rune, the symbol of "winter".

???

These strangers bear true wisdom.

These notes don't seem very useful...

They will help. Don't be sad.

15. Part 15

4 lines
Typhoeus

The runes have been placed at the respective stone tablets.

Endmin, we can now perform the ritual to enter the dream within dreams.

I really want to see it, the Snowpriestess's dream at the last ebbs of her life.

I hope it's ... a beautiful dream.

16. Part 16

6 lines
Typhoeus

This may seem like a snowy realm, but it's very different from the snowy forest.

This feels like ... a mountain valley in Samivegr.

I believe this is where the Snowpriestess finally arrived...

Endmin, we're entering rough territory and the snowstorm is picking up strength. Stay close to me.

Your choice

A huge snowstorm?

Did we just return from the dreamscape?

17. Part 17

3 lines
Old Snowpriestess

Even in this endless realm of snow, a lone sapling yearns to stand amongst the forest.

To think that my old, weary eyes ... could witness a touch of green in this white expanse.

No new life came into being after I froze the forest. Yet I dreamed of it today.

18. Part 18

4 lines
Old Snowpriestess

Strange. I did not know the dreamscape could alter a trespasser's form.

While gathering water by the pond, I saw my reflection and how I've changed... Very strange indeed.

My wrinkles and age spots are gone. Color returned to my silver hair. And I even have teeth again.

What's happening? All those memories I lost are suddenly coming back to me...

19. Part 19

4 lines
Old Snowpriestess

Alright! Watch me make a giant leaf pile! Hmm-hmm! Then I'll jump onto it from a tall tree! Sounds like fun! Hehee!

I don't know why anyone would leave Samivegr. There's so much fun here...

Sami, I pray that you'll let me stay here forever and ever. Keep me in my tribe. Keep me by my mamma and pabbi's side.

Oh no! I've been out there too long! Mamma will be so mad at me.

20. Part 20

7 lines
Old Snowpriestess

Waahhh... WAAAHHH...

Gentle Voice

Hush, little one. There ... there...

It's alright, my child. Have no fear.

I have you in my dreams.

Old Snowpriestess

Hik... sniff...

Gentle Voice

You are back at home.

Old Snowpriestess

......

21. Part 21

2 lines

Tree from the staff.

A simple staff made of withered wood that somehow sprouted buds in the dreamscape. It grew into a great tree as it experienced the cycle of the seasons.

22. Part 22

5 lines
Typhoeus

It's such a beautiful dream.

Endmin, I don't know why, but there are so many things I want to say about the Snowpriestess.

Yet I can't find the words...

You

Then hush, and say nothing instead.

Let's leave quietly, and try not to disturb her dream.

23. Part 23

5 lines
???

Ah, it's spring.

Typhoeus

A tiny oasis within the blizzard?

???

Those memories of spring ... have gradually resurfaced before us.

Typhoeus

Are there any links between the handwritten notes and the runes?

Endmin, let's explore the area.

24. Part 24

2 lines
Typhoeus

Endmin, can you find the way forward?

Perhaps ... the notes we found before gave hints on something...

25. Part 25

2 lines
Typhoeus

It's getting warmer.

You

Is this ... summer?

26. Part 26

2 lines
Typhoeus

Endmin, did we lose our way?

If spring needed us to find a new bud, then summer...

27. Part 27

3 lines
Typhoeus

Spring, summer, autumn...

You

Let's see what autumn left for us.

???

She would play with me during autumn. It's my favorite season.

28. Part 28

1 lines
Typhoeus

The key of autumn should be written in the notes as well.

29. Part 29

4 lines
???

It's so cold.

Lean against me. My fur is thick.

Typhoeus

Winter is the most familiar season of the Samifjod.

Let's go.

30. Part 30

2 lines
Typhoeus

This must be the last one.

Let's go over the notes we found before.

31. Part 31

2 lines

The tablet is covered with numerous haphazard scratches and lines. They seem like runes at first, but closer inspection reveals that they carry no discernible meaning.

The one who made the scratches probably failed to receive the desired revelation.

32. Part 32

2 lines

A square wooden box containing empty packages of many condiments and snacks.

From a glance, most of them look like products of Wuling.

33. Part 33

2 lines

A piece of bark shed from a tree. The patterns on it resemble a picture.

The picture looks like an old person gently stroking a young shoot.

34. Part 34

2 lines

A furry blanket large enough to fully enclose an adult. It has been sewn using a special stitching technique and is exceptionally durable.

In the coldness of Sami, the sharing of warmth is akin to the sharing of tender loving care.

35. Part 35

1 lines

A long arrow plunged into the river shore at an angle.

36. Part 36

2 lines

A few pieces of stone covered in runic inscriptions.

The stones are smooth, as though someone has been constantly rubbing them with their hands.

37. Part 37

2 lines

Markings scratched on stone. They are very shallow and barely noticeable.

It is obvious that the one who made this isn't very strong.

38. Part 38

2 lines

A toy made by twining twigs together. The shape is rather odd. It is hard to tell what the toy is supposed to be.

Making a toy like this only takes a moment, but it can be rather fun.

39. Part 39

2 lines

A blanket large enough to fully enclose an infant. It has been sewn using a special stitching technique and is exceptionally durable.

In the coldness of Sami, the sharing of warmth is akin to the sharing of tender loving care.

40. Part 40

2 lines

Several woolen strings have been tied together to make this net-like structure.

When hung, the feathers dangling from it will sway with the wind.
