Chapter Noctoyager
1 scenes, 33 lines
1. Return to the Sanctuary
33 linesAnd so, after Embla spent the last spark of her life resisting the calamity wrought by Ask, she gave her soul to the mist to shield her people from the end of the world. Her soul then drifted away towards the Misty Sea.
Mm... now where did I put that blueprint? Ah. There it is.
Now, where was I? Ah yes, the calamity. Realising he had made a mistake that could not be undone, Ask reclaimed every calamity weapon from its bearer and cast them back into the Calamity Furnace to be destroyed.
Good. The forge is hot enough now. That should do nicely. Now then...
And once the last of the weapons had been cast into the furnace, Ask's body gave way with a crash like thunder... and from his fallen form, the mountains rose.
And then? What happened after that? What became of the world after the apocalypse? Will Embla and Ask be reborn? And where did the Calamity Furnace go?
That's as far as I know. If you want the rest of the old Charon tale, you'd be better off asking the Charon folk in the city. As for me...
I've still got a whole stack of forging orders waiting on me.
Hey! You can't just stop halfway through a story like that! How am I supposed to sleep tonight!?
What's going on? Mind if I join you?
Lunosmith's busy. Leave her alone, Snow. I placed a few orders with her myself not long ago.
Busy with forging orders? More like busy raking it in.
Oh! Back again? Got another order for me, kid?
Not this time. I was just wandering about. Still, it's rare to hear you talk about anything other than smithing.
Heh heh, you should be thanking me for that. I was asking her about the myths and legends of the Charon folk. She was telling me about some legendary... what was it called again...?
The Calamity Furnace.
Right! That furnace is incredible! It was a divine artefact created by Ask, the father god of the Charon. With it, he forged reeeeally powerful weapons and bestowed them upon his brave and warlike children.
But later, their bearers kept turning those weapons against one another, again and again, until the sky darkened and the world nearly came to an end. That's why they came to be known as "calamity weapons"!
So if the Calamity Furnace is really that amazing, haven't you ever wanted to go looking for it?
Of course I have. And... I have, in fact, found a few leads.
Oh? You found it? Where is it? Well? Quick, show us!
The Calamity Furnace... is far away, and yet right before your eyes...
Some time ago, I travelled north, all the way to Askard in the farthest reaches of the north, to ask the ancient Charon tribes there about the Calamity Furnace.
Using the secret smithing arts they have passed down since ancient times, I gave my own furnace a proper overhaul. I even named it after the one in the myth: the Calamity Furnace.
With it, I'm fully confident that...
Little Minion, I have a very bad feeling about where this is headed...
Mhm. I'm quite certain I can forge peerless arms to rival the legendary calamity weapons. It's only that...
Alright, I already know what you're going to say.
How much is this going to cost me this time?
How many materials do I need to gather for you this time?
Now, now, I only brought it up. If you're not interested, forget it. Though, from the look on your face, you don't believe me at all, do you?
Well, can you blame her? Every coin my Little Minion earned from commissions goes straight to you...
Ho ho... the choice is yours. I've still got work to do. If you're interested in forging calamity weapons, come and find me.
