A high shaman from a family that has been serving Theranhad's emperors since its founding.

She has inherited the ability to foresee fragments of the near future.

However, she feels guilty for not being able to protect the previous emperor and as thus pledged loyalty to the young emperor Zio.

In Phantasmal Barrier, Sharun is consumed by guilt and self-reproach over Theranhad’s recent tragedies, especially her inability to protect Zio or stop Zahhak’s schemes despite her powers of foresight.

Reflecting on how the emperor died after being misled, how Zio was raised to the throne through Zahhak’s influence, and how both eventually became bound up in the catastrophe surrounding Demuto, Sharun blames herself for failing to guide Theranhad down the proper path.

Even when Hasol and Yoonryoung urge her not to carry everything alone, she insists that, as High Shaman, the pain of that failure belongs to her.

While paying respects at Zio’s grave and trying once again to augur the future, Sharun is instead overwhelmed by memories of the past, falls into sudden sleep, and awakens inside a nightmare after seeing a distorted version of herself.

Inside the nightmare, Sharun is confronted by the Master of the Nightmare, a being that claims to have been born from her pain and despair and seeks to trap her in endless darkness.

The nightmare preys specifically on Sharun’s deepest wounds: her fear that she is powerless, her regret over Zio, and her inability to trust her own sight.

As she pursues the Master through shifting illusions, false paths, and manipulated memories, Sharun repeatedly encounters reminders of her supposed helplessness, including taunts that a shaman who cannot see the future is not even the “real” Sharun.

Still, she refuses to yield, presses deeper into the forest, and gradually recovers her composure enough to use her foresight again in small but important moments.

Sharun’s journey through the barrier also reveals key aspects of her character beyond her guilt.

Although she is cautious and increasingly aware that the nightmare twists appearances, she still tries to help others she believes may be trapped, negotiates with hostile creatures when possible, and shows practical kindness even in danger, such as gathering berries for a hungry Wicked and seeking light to guide the way.

At the same time, she begins to rely on the support around her.

Setsuka appears and guides her through the barrier’s manipulation of memory, helping her identify false recollections and understand that the nightmare is targeting the most vulnerable parts of her heart.

Later, Sharun rescues Hasol from the spider cave, clears Yoonryoung’s hallucination, and joins them in pursuing the imposter that has been acting in her name.

Through these encounters, Sharun shifts from someone fixated on solitary responsibility to someone increasingly willing to trust others.

As the truth of the nightmare becomes clearer, Sharun realizes that the Master’s goal is not merely to torment her, but to weaken and consume her through a “ritual to become one.

” Following Setsuka’s reasoning, Sharun helps devise a plan to reverse that ritual so that she can consume the Master instead.

When the Master finally lashes out and assumes the form of Darkness-possessed Zio in order to break her spirit, Sharun at last confronts the emotional core of her suffering.

She admits that she once pitied Zio and wanted to save him, but that when she understood how thoroughly she had been deceived, what she felt most deeply was disappointment in herself for closing her eyes rather than overcoming her fear.

From that realization comes her turning point: Sharun declares that she will no longer betray herself, that the High Shaman must lead Theranhad down the proper path, and that she must face the storm before her instead of shrinking from it.

With encouragement from Setsuka and support from Hasol and Yoonryoung, Sharun overcomes the final struggle and binds the false Zio to that moment, effectively consuming the Master of the Nightmare.

Only afterward does she learn that the nightmare, its “Master,” and even the allies accompanying her within it had all been born from her own dream, manifestations drawn from what she carried unconsciously within herself.

Rather than collapsing under that revelation, Sharun accepts it with relief.

Before waking, she thanks Setsuka for helping her move forward, and though she admits she is still not fully confident, she comes away with a new understanding: she is not alone, fear does not have to rule her, and change becomes possible when she keeps her eyes open and seizes the opportunity before her.

Back in reality, Sharun awakens refreshed and quietly resolves never to forget the people who support her.
