Apparently he'd been collecting them to make into a necklace for his beloved. Clutching the feathers to her chest, she plunged into the canal and sank forever beneath its waters.

Even in death, she must still be thinking of her lost love. How touching... Didn't you say she was trying to count something? Perhaps she's looking for the feathers for her necklace. That's all she has left to remember him.

And when she said it wasn't enough, she meant she needed another to complete the necklace? In that case, it's clear what we must do. You can get another feather by slaying a monster called the Teardrop Flasmelk. You'll find them on the Derismo Highroad. For the heroes who saved Salamander it should pose no threat at all. The rest is up to you.
