The Ship that Will Never Return
A fisherman from Rinde went out fishing but has not returned. Go look for him.
9 scenes, 50 lines
1. Scene 1
3 linesThank you for finding Boody. Now I can rest easy. I'll be the best fisherman I can be. It'll be my way of carrying on his legacy.
He should have been back three days ago... My friend was wearing a jade pendant.
He should have been back by now... Where could he be?
2. Scene 2
8 linesHmm... He's still not back...
Is something wrong, mister? You look pretty worried.
Huh? Oh, it's nothing. It's just one of my fellow fisherman hasn't been seen in a few days. He was meant to come into port three days ago, but I haven't seen any sign of his ship yet.
Three days?! You don't think he got attacked by sea monsters or something, do you?
Can't rule out that possibility... He was fishing in the bay between the Nuaru Uplands and the Serena Coast. Those are usually calm waters, not a lot of reports of monster attacks there. But there was a storm out at sea right before he left. Could be that it caught up with him.
In a lot of ways, a storm on the sea can be more dangerous than monsters. How about I go ask around? Someone in town might have seen him. I'll see what I can find out.
Oh, thank you. My friend always wears a pendant made of jade, should make him easy to spot.
That does help. I'll keep a look out for a jade pendant, too. I'll start by asking the townsfolk in Rinde.
3. Scene 3
1 linesLet's review what we know so far. A vanishing ship, a blue light, and a hole in the sky... Apparently it opened up somewhere near the Nuaru Uplands. I have a feeling all this is connected somehow... The boat was sucked into the sky and disappeared into a glowing blue hole? That's enough to put together a theory of what might have happened. Time to do some more legwork.
4. Scene 4
1 linesThat storm was a real wild one. I saw boats getting tossed around like they weighed nothing at all. Some even say one ship disappeared, but I think that's going a little too far.
5. Scene 5
1 linesThe storm that blew in a while back? Yeah, it was pretty scary. I dunno why, but it seemed...different from your regular squall. The sea looked like it was glowing. What could that weird blue light have been?
6. Scene 6
1 linesI saw it with my own two eyes... A great hole was torn in the sky above the Nuaru Uplands during the storm.
7. Scene 7
8 linesA glowing blue hole... Probably a tear in spacetime.
This area'll become Elzion in the future. Maybe we should continue this investigation there.
Hey, you haven't heard anything about an odd-looking boat showing up around here, have you?
You mean the ghost ship? Yeah, they say an old-fashioned wreck appeared at the airport. Some said it was just a KMS experiment gone wrong. But when a man's face suddenly popped up out of the wreckage, lots of folk started saying he must be a ghost. It's all everyone at the port has been talking about for days now.
I knew we were on to something! Do you know what happened to this man?
Some guy took him in and is letting him work at his store until he gets back on his feet. The blacksmith in Gamma District, I heard. His daughter's a real looker, too, by the way.
A blacksmith from Gamma District with a pretty daughter? That sounds familiar...
Of course! Ishar's, here we come!
8. Scene 8
19 linesYo, Aldo. Good to see ya.
Mister Za'ol, I have a question for you. Did you happen to hire a guy who was found inside a "ghost ship"?
Ghost ship? Oh, you must mean Boody! He said he came from the past. Reminded me of you, in a way. Couldn't leave him all high and dry. Yeah, so I gave him a job. He's out getting supplies right now, but he should be back any minute.
I'm back, Boss!
Speak of the devil. Boody, you got a visitor.
A visitor? Who'd even know who I am?
You're the castaway from Rinde, right?
You've heard of Rinde? Were you shipwrecked here, too?!
In a way, I guess. Don't you think you should be getting back there soon?
You say that like it'd be easy. We're talking about time travel here!
Besides, I've decided to stay here in this time. It'll take some getting used to, but I'm sure I can adjust.
Now that I've seen what the future looks like, I've realized there's something only I can do. I'm one of the only people here who's seen the vast, beautiful ocean firsthand.
Thanks to Za'ol, I'm able to make a living here. I'm saving money to start up an ocean reconstruction project. First, though, I want to visit the place they call the Last Island. I've heard there are still blue seas there.
Sounds like you've made up your mind.
I have. My only regret is leaving behind my friend and fellow fisherman in Rinde. If you're going back there, would you give him this pendant?
You got a jade pendant.
Sure thing. I'll make sure he gets it.
I know what it's like to find yourself in a new, unfamiliar era. I'm so glad I met Amy and Riica, even Cyrus. They helped me get through some tough times...
Better give this pendant to his friend and set his mind at ease.
9. Scene 9
8 linesOh, you're back. You don't look too happy... Is it bad news?
Well, I did find your friend. He's doing great. And he asked me to give you this.
You handed over the Jade Pendant.
Th-This is...
He ended up in a place where he found a new purpose. So...he's not coming back.
Hm, I see... Knowing him he's chasing some crazy dream. He bought this pendant when the two of us swore to become great fishermen someday. If he wanted me to have it, that's his way of saying this port is my turf now... Heh. Have it your way, old friend. I'll make Rinde a town we can be proud of!
That's the spirit. The two of you can still work together to protect the ocean.
Thanks for the help, boy. Now I can rest easy. I'll be the best fisherman I can be. It'll be my way of carrying on his legacy.
