49 linesFor the students, summer is a time to hone mind and body ahead of the fall racing season. But it's also a chance to recharge one's batteries.
Among the activities set up for them is the Summer Walk, a series of events centered around relaxation.
With ample logistical and financial support from the academy, students set out to enjoy their summers to the fullest.
WOOOOO! It's barbecue time!
We got the drinks? And desserts? Are the carrots all good to go? We're gonna need some burgers to top it all off too! ♪
Oh, almost forgot to take a picture! Hey, hey, Dober! Say cheese!
Sob, sob... I haven't been home in forever... I'm so lonesome... Mom, Dad... Miss you.
(...Okay. Today's the day I ask her!)
For this year's Summer Walk, would you like to go camping together? I thought maybe if we made some fun memories together, you'd feel a bit less lonely.
(...But, I don't know... Can I really help when it's her family she wants to see? Agh, now I'm doubting the idea.)
Dober! Whatcha doin' here? Oh, is that a camping leaflet?!
Maybe... it's for the Summer Walk?! Wow, I wanna try it! Let's go together!
Oh... s-sure!
(Well, she invited me in the end, but that doesn't matter. For the next five days, I'll make sure she has a great time!)
Ooh, everything tastes better chargrilled! Piping hot carrots, so yummy!
Mambo! Be careful while you play out there!
Huh?! Qué?!
Haha! What a surprise! I wasn't expecting to meet you guys here!
Me neither. Although, the academy is sponsoring this event, so it's not that crazy if you think about it.
Speaking of which, where are your usual friends?
I decided to go on my first solo camping trip! So I'm on my own. What about you, El?
Me? Well... Grass was planning to come with me, but our schedules clashed, so...
KEE-AAH!
I didn't wanna miss it, so I came along with Mambo instead. There's a lot more room for a condor to spread its wings here...
AH! I-I mean! I don't have a pet condor! I've never seen that bird before!
Mumu? Really?
(I see... So she's been keeping a pet bird in secret and brought it here so it could fly in the open.)
(As her senior, I should probably give her a warning about that, but we are on the Summer Walk, after all. I'll turn a blind eye for now.)
So, anyway, um... I-if it's all right with you both, um...
Wow! El and Tannhauser! Fancy meetin' you here! Let's enjoy this camping trip together!
Oh! Yay! Are you sure?! To be honest, solo camping was starting to get a bit lonely...
Phew, that was close!
And so...
Sí! I got one, I got one! I've got a bite!

Oh? Hm... I like lookin' back over my pictures. When I'm on my own, they bring back good memories!

But I'm on my own... If I don't... f-find some... "villagers" to join me...
Oh no! I lost sight of the firefly!
W-wait, Taiki! You never know what could be lurking in the forest at night...
WAAAH! NOOO!
S-sorry I scared you!
No, I'm sorry for screaming so loud. I didn't know you were here camping too.
Ah, yes! For some, um... treasure hunting.
Treasure hunting?!
Y-yes! You see, the natural features of this campsite mimic the setting of a children's bo...
I mean, not a book. It's a... movie. There's a forest just like this one in a movie I saw.
What?! That's amazing!
A-at first, I thought it was just a coincidence, but I did some research, and it turns out that the owner of this campsite is the same person who made the movie.
And now after exploring it for myself, I'm certain. This campsite is a puzzle for fans, a secret map to the land of dreams!
Which means, there must be a mystical stone somewhere around here that grants wishes, the Dreamstone. So that's why I came here... Um, hello?
Unbelievable! You're sayin' there's a real-life adventure to be had right here?!
(Taiki looks so excited. But of course, she loves this kind of thing. ...I know! We should join the treasure hunt!)
(Oh, but... springing that on Rob Roy might intrude on her plans. It looks like she came here alone, so maybe she wanted to enjoy it quietly on her own.)
Hey, would you mind if we joined you on your treasure hunt? We'll have fun together! It'll be exciting!
Wait. Ah...
Of course! Please do! This story is about individuals coalescing into a single team to find the treasure after all!
What does that mean? Having fun together?
Yes. Five villagers, each with their own qualities, come together and brave danger in search of the wish-granting stone for the sake of their village.
They're a ragtag bunch at first, but along the way they learn to combine their skills and ultimately achieve their goal. The last chapter is a real tearjerker...
S-sorry. I got a little carried away! Anyway, in the story, the traps are impossible to clear alone!
So I'd be thrilled if you were to lend me a hand!
Woohoo! Thank you! If we need five people, then... Okay! I'll ask those two tomorrow!
Yay! A treasure, treasure, treasure hunt!

47 lines(The truth is, I originally had plans here at the Mejiro estate during these dates. They excused me, but... I'll make it up to them next time.)
(I won't regret going, though. Taiki's been crying quietly to herself every night. I had to do something.)
What's this? It has "To Dober" written on it. A present and a letter?
Oh, it's from Ryan. I wonder what this is about.
"I bet you're worried about missing our plans for the camping trip, so thought I'd write to you! Don't worry about it, seriously. I'm actually happy you're going."
"You noticed your friend was struggling and reached out a hand to her. I'm proud of you!"
"Although you're reserved, you're observant and thoughtful. You may not realize it, but that makes you someone people can rely on."
"So... be confident in your decision and go out there and have a blast! Hopefully this outfit I picked for you will help!"
Ryan... Thank you. Hehe, I wonder what clothes she picked... Huh?!
(Oh, Ryan went overboard with this outfit! I never usually wear anything that shows so much of my back!)
(But... Okay, I'll give it a chance. Ryan wanted me to wear it with confidence.)
(Instead of staying in my shell like always, I'll be bold! And make sure Taiki makes some wonderful memories!)
So, to recap, in order to find the Dreamstone, we'll have to find two hidden clues first.
One is hidden somewhere along the river that runs from the north to southwest of the campsite. It's called the Lonely River in the movie.
The other one is hidden deep in the forest behind the barbecue area. It's called Ghillie Dhu's Garden.
Once we've made it past all the traps in each area and acquired the two gemstones, we'll head to the rocky beach area.
Oberon's Palace. This cave is where the Dreamstone lies!
If we can open the door to the cave with the two stones we acquired, then we might just find the Dreamstone inside!
Oooh!
The Lonely River and Ghillie Dhu's Garden... Hehe, sounds like it came straight from a storybook!
Hehe. Well then, let's start by heading to the Lonely River for the first stone!
Wow! Look, Dober! I saw a red mushroom like that in a picture book once!
This tree over here looks like it has a face on it! Amazing!
AAAH! The roots are shaped like a person's body!
A Tree Man? A mandrake?! Where, where?!
Dearie me. Don't go off too far!
Hehe, I'm glad they're enjoying themselves.
According to the story, there is a sacred spring nearby where an undine dwells.
Looking at the map, though... it seems they weren't able to reproduce the spring here, understandably...
Wooow! Look at that!
Dober! Rob Roy! There's a stunning spring over here!
What? C-could it be the undine's spring?!
Wow!
I can't believe it! I knew the terrain was similar, but I didn't expect it to be this accurate!
You can't see her, but the undine might be somewhere in there too!
D-do you think?!
If you listen carefully, you can almost hear singing and dancing... Or at least, that's kind of what it sounds like to me.
I can almost hear it, kind of!
Click!
Haha! Good! I got a real happy shot of us just now!
E-excuse me for getting overexcited...
Rob Roy, tell us more! What else do they have here? Like... a witch's house or something?!
Hehe. Well, there's the river where the kelpie lives, and the blue cave where the fairy king lives. They should be here somewhere!
The story of Rhodonite is so expansive, there's bound to be lots more to enjoy here!
WOOO! So the adventure's only just gettin' started! Let's go!
What a relief. Taiki looks like she's having a great time.
I want to see her having fun all the time... Well, I've got to start being more proactive too!
4. Episode 4
44 lines"A distinctive rowan tree. At its roots, a large hollow." Yes, this has got to be the Lonely River!
A large hollow... You mean that over there? Ah, sorry to keep asking questions! I actually tried to find out what would be waiting for us here before coming!
But I couldn't find the movie anywhere, so we'll have to rely on you for everything, I'm afraid.
(Oh yeah... I'm the only one who knows the story. I-I've got to take the lead!)
S-so what we'll try and do now is cross the stepping stone path over the river and get the gemstone from the pedestal.
Qué?! But I don't see any stepping stones in the river, or a pedestal!
There's a trick to it! If you flip the switch, the stones and the pedestal will rise out from the water!
And that switch is right here in the hollow of this rowan tree... Huh?
Wh-what? The switch is supposed to be here... Instead there's writing... "The longest beard in the forest"...
Maybe, if the trial was exactly the same as the movie, people would be able to cheat, so they changed it?
Ah! True, I hadn't thought of that. Ummm, ummm... let's just try searching around!
Hm... I can't see it. What even is "the longest beard in the forest" anyway?
Oh! El, look at that! It's a long, thick ivy branch! It goes all the way from the top of the tree down to the river!
It looks strong enough to make into a swing. Tannhauser, go!
Roger! I'll just get comfy in here and swiiing! Swing-a-linga-ding! Woohoo! This is fun!
Click!
...What was that?
Gasp! Is this the switch?!
Rumble, rumble!
Huh? What's that sound?
Whoa! Look over there! Stones have risen out from the river!
Someone must've found the switch. So... once the stones come out, what do we do again?
S-sorry! W-we have to act fast, so I'll g-go on ahead!
Calm down, Rob Roy! What's going on?
...Well, if it's the same as in Rhodonite, then the stepping stones will only stay for a few minutes!
So there's a time limit. In that case, why don't we flip the switch and start again...
We can't! "Under the moonlight, the magic replenishes." Which means it only works once per day!
Oh! Well, we don't wanna miss our chance! Okay, I'm confident in my speed!
W-wait! Ah! T-Taiki!
Gotta be quick but careful! Hop, step, jump! Whoa, it's slippery!
W-will she be okay? The rocks will sink if she doesn't get back in time, right?
Yes! You're actually supposed to cross the steps while holding on to a long vine for safety, but I haven't seen it anywhere!
Oh, there was a vine? Oh well, don't worry! I'm almost at the stone...
Rumble...
Ah?! My step is sinking...
Gasp!
Splash!
Gah! What?! I-I'm being swept away!
Machitan, swooping in!
Tannhauser!
I think I flipped the switch by accident, sorry! Hey, are you holding on, Taiki? Here we go!
Hold on to the vine and I'll take you to shore, my princess! Hehe.
Yes! You're my hero!
Ph...phew!
5. Episode 5
52 linesAhhh, we were so close! Just a little longer, and Taiki would've got the stone!
Well, I'm just glad you're all safe. I'm sorry. All I did was panic. I dread to think what would've happened if you weren't there...
Gah! What?! I-I'm being swept away!
Oh no?! Oh no! Oh no!
If she's there now, then with how fast the river's flowing... Got it!
I was the only one there who knew what to expect, and yet... I failed to explain things properly. I'm really sorry.
N-no, it was my fault to begin with! Besides, today was our first day. I'm sure tomorrow will go better now that we have this experience. Okay?
...
In that moment, why didn't I stop her?
W-wait!
(We should think things through before trying anything so dangerous... Oh, right, but we only have a few minutes, don't we?)
(It's Taiki, I'm sure she'll be fine. She wouldn't run out of time and fall into the river...)
(If I'd stopped her, I could've prevented her from falling in.)
(I'm always doing this. Every time I have something to say, I freeze, and I let Taiki take the lead for me.)
Maybe... it's for the Summer Walk?! Wow, I wanna try it! Let's go together!
Hey, would you mind if we joined you on your treasure hunt? We'll have fun together! It'll be exciting!

(...What am I doing with myself?)
Hrng... Where did my mask go? How could it just disappear while I left it hanging up?

It perked you up quick.
This mask and I are inseparable! I would even go as far as to say the mask completes me! But anyway, I need you to promise me something.
P-please don't tell anyone that I'm weak without my mask!
...Are you? I think you're strong with or without it.
Qué?
You can multiply zero by anything and it'll still be zero. If you were really weak, a mask wouldn't do anything for you.
...Um, Dober, is there something on your mind?
N-not really...
There must be! I can see it on your face! And it's not fair for only one of us to reveal a secret!
I-it's really nothing. I guess I was just feeling a bit insecure. Or maybe I expected too much of myself.
I start out eager, but then I overthink things, and in the end I can't do anything. Ugh, this is awkward. Forget all of that!
You can't do anything? Are you sure?
Do you remember when we first ran into each other at the campsite?
So, anyway, um... I-if it's all right with you both, um...
You changed the subject for my sake, didn't you? When you get that serious look on your face, it means you're thinking hard about things.
I've noticed. People like you are reliable 'cause you're always so thoughtful!
N-no, that's not...
"Although you're reserved, you're observant and thoughtful. You may not realize it, but that makes you someone people can rely on."
...Oh.
If it's true what you said, that I already have strength in me and the mask only helps draw more of it out...
Then I can say the same for you too! You have a gajillion little sparks inside you, as many as the starry sky!
So here's a present for you! A special mask that only you and I can see!
Whenever you wear this mask, those twinkling sparks of light will all ignite one after another! You'll transform into the cool and reliable Dober that I know!
And you know it's true, 'cause I said so!
6. Episode 6
60 linesG-good morning! About yesterday, um... I'm so sorry for my ineptitude! Today, I'll d-do better!
About that, actually. I have a suggestion, if I may?
Um, Rob Roy, you had a lot on your shoulders yesterday, didn't you? You made the plans, lead the way, explained everything, told us what to do...
So, if it'll help, should I give the instructions? If you tell me what needs to be done, I can take it from there.
Oh, gosh... Well, thank you. I think it would be safer to do it that way too.
Just relax and leave it to me. I'm actually, well... If there's one thing I'm good at, it's worrying about things.
Okay! I've noted down the switch's location and taken a picture! Let's go back and show everyone!
You and me'll find the second switch, while Dober's group retries the Lonely River!
It's a carefully thought-out plan. Hehe. That's so Dober!
Yes. To be honest, I'm also quite relieved. Oh, sorry. The way back is... this way?
(What a predicament. I could find out for sure if I checked the book, but... I can't just take it out here...)
Uhhh, it's this way!
Okay! Right behind you!
Ahhh! Nooo!
O-ouch! Who knew there were random cliffs in the forest?! I don't see any way of climbing back up from here.
I'll message everyone on LANE. "Help me!" Oh, Rob Roy, you don't look very well!
I'm sorry! So sorry! If... if I'd just told the truth, I could've checked the route in the book!
A-and yesterday too, if I'd told the truth, we could've checked the book first and avoided that whole fiasco!
Hey, Rob Roy, calm down! What's all this about? Take your time, okay? Tell me what happened, nice and slow.
The truth is... that story isn't from a movie, it's from a children's book. Rhodonite and the Dreamstone, it's called.
A book?
If only I'd told the truth sooner, we could've avoided a lot of trouble. I'm sorry.
...Oh!
I knew it all sounded familiar! You mean it's from that book? The Lonely River, Ghillie Dhu's Garden, the Dreamstone...
...What?! Y-you mean you've read the book too?
Yeah! When I was little, my friends used to love it! We would all read it together!
Oh, b-but wait a minute! Does that mean we've been exploring that world this whole time?!
And I got lots of pictures of it all! Haha!
Now that I know, this looks exactly like the Lonely River that I'd imagined! The undine's spring too, and the forest, the animals...
The Tree Man, the red mushroom, they were all in the story! If I remember correctly, near the red mushroom was a cat wearing shoes!
Th-that's right! There was a meeting with the cat-sìths! That's where they asked the villagers to drive away the kelpies!
Ahaha! Yeah, I remember! And then, the cat-sìths invite them into their kingdom, and they say...
"Tokubetsu ni shoutai shiyou. Juppondo de ii." "Just for you, ten pounds and you're in!"
Haha! So that's how the line goes in Japanese!
I can't believe it! I never imagined we'd have so much fun talking about books together!
...But of course. Books truly are amazing.
(What made me think they were childish? They transcend borders and time, bringing people together!)
Oh, there they are! Heeey! You okay, you two?
Man, you sure did give me a shock. Your "Help me!" was so sudden. Oh, the other two are still looking for you. I'll let them know.
Thank you! You found us so quickly!
That's because I thought I saw a fairy dressed in black over here. When I followed it, I found you guys!
I might just be imagining things, but there's so many mysteries to this place, it's really fun!
Someone normal like me never could've found a place like this! Man, I hope I get to watch the movie someday!
Ah! Um, about that...
What? So it wasn't a movie, it was a book?
...I-it's a little embarrassing, but... well, I thought a movie would sound more mature, so...
Hm. So basically, you want to be more mature?
Huh? Uh, not exactly... It's just...
N-none of my classmates are into children's literature like I am. There's one who knows a lot about cosmetics, and everyone's interested in that kind of stuff...
So I kind of started to feel embarrassed about liking books...
It's not that they're mature, they're just into makeup. And it's not that you're childish, you're just into books. Don't you think?
...What?
And you know what, they're both unique and amazing in their own way. I mean...
As someone who's never really gotten deep into reading, makeup, or any kind of hobby, they're both equally amazing to me!
I definitely never would've seen the campsite map and thought, "This is just like that story! A-ha!" on my own, you know?
So, um... yeah! You're fine as you are! Right, Taiki?
Yep! You're A-OK!
7. Episode 7
56 linesSo you see, this is Rhodonite and the Dreamstone. I'm sorry for lying to you all.
...Huh?
You mean... th-the spring and the river and the forest we saw are all in this book?!
...Huh? Y-yes, it's all in here. There's also a fight with the kelpie and a scene where they bargain with a cù sìth...
H-hold on a minute. We need to get the second hint before the day ends. Can you tell us more later? I'm... also curious about it.
...G-gladly!
After finding the second hint without any problems, they gather in their tree house to read the novel together.
Ohhh, so there were fairies called the peallaidh in the Lonely River. Whoa, they lure people close and then pull them into the river?! That's scary...
Oh, is this where we're going tomorrow? Oberon's Palace? A glowing blue cave... Ah, I can't wait!
And so the night grows late... The next day, the five adventurers arrive at the final obstacle, Oberon's Palace.
The open sea, the white clouds, aaand... the stone door leading to the cave! At a glance, it looks like just your average stone slab, but that won't fool me!
...Yes, this must be the right place.
In the book, they opened the door by placing the two stones they found at the Lonely River and Ghillie Dhu's Garden on a pillar, right?
Yeah! I don't see anything that looks like a pillar around here, though... Instead, there are some dents in the surface of the door slab.
There's a hole in the bottom-right, the middle, and the left. There's already a stone in the bottom-right one.
How about we try putting our stones in the two open spots? What do you think, Rob Ro, hm? What's up? You look pleased as punch!
What?! Um, no! N-n-nothing at all! I think that's a good idea, Taiki. The shape and size look like a perfect fit.
Okay! If I may do the honors... This one goes here, and this one, right here. Done! Open sesame!
The door glows, and with a slow rumbling noise, it starts to open... Or at least, that's what they thought would happen.
Hm. Maybe they were meant to go the other way round. Or was it the order I placed them in?
Possibly. Let's try every variation we can think of.
Nooo! We've tried everything! We even splashed it with water and dug around in the sand for clues, but still nothing!
I'm at a complete loss... Is there something we're missing?
The people fishing over there are probably locals, don't ya think? They might know something! Hey, hey! Excuse me, guys!
What?! No way. There she goes!
I see. A treasure hunt, huh? Now you mention it, I feel like I saw something engraved at the bottom of that big rock over there.
Oh, you mean those strange swirly letters we can't understand? I think it's just graffiti or something, though.
So, that's what I heard. Oh, this must be it! It is all swirly! What do you think, Rob Roy?
This is the language used in Rhodonite. Let's see... It says...
Huh? You can read it?
W-well, I spent some time deciphering it once so I could understand the writing in the illustrations...
Um... "Ye who decipher this, miss not the fleeting chance when it shines." That's what it says.
Amazing! You're a genius!
Hehe... Well, it appears the door only opens for a short time. But...
(It's already quite dark. We need to go through the forest to get back. I can't put us all in danger again like last time.)
...Unfortunately, I think we've already missed our chance.
(Rob Roy has been deep in thought this whole time. Although she said we should go home, I have a feeling she doesn't really want to give up.)
(Okay. Right now, I have my mask on, so...)
R-Rob Roy, are you sure about this? Our bus leaves first thing in the morning tomorrow. If we give up now, that's it...
Oh, no, it's fine! I'm happy we even made it this far. And I wouldn't dream of putting you all in danger again.
They do say it's dangerous to go out in the forest at night, but this is a campsite. The paths are clear and well-lit.
So, do you want to stay here a little longer and try and figure it out? If we come up with nothing, we go home. If we get an inkling, we go back to the beach. What do you think?
I'm all for it! I don't want to give up now after coming this far!
Oh... Then... in that case, let's try a little longer. Thank you all.
Three stones, in the shape of a triangle... "Ye who decipher this, miss not the fleeting chance when it shines."
Hmmm...
Um, not like this is an answer or anything, but... I feel like I've seen this triangle somewhere before.
You have?! Where?!
That's the thing, I don't remember. I feel like I saw it when I was lying down... Wait.
Oh. Oh? Oh! OH! That's it! The Summer Triangle!
Oh yeah! Those stones were in the exact same shape as the Summer Triangle! So what does it mean?
Huh? Rob Roy?!
("When it shines." It was referring to nighttime, when the Summer Triangle is visible!)
("Miss not the fleeting chance." Which means the door only opens for a short time. This is our last chance! I have to hurry!)
Pant, pant, pant! The stones on the door are glowing like stars!
It's opening! Thank goodness, we made it! We did it!
8. Episode 8
48 linesThe group find Oberon's Palace and enter the blue cave bathed in moonlight.
Gasp! This is it, Oberon's Palace! The final destination of the story!
Amazing! The walls are actually glowing blue!
It's out of this world! To think a place like this really exists...
Oh? There are footprints...
Hey, over there! It's hard to see in the dark, but there on top of that pedestal...
Ah! That's it! The Dreamstone!
So this is the Dreamstone... It looks beautiful in the moonlight.
Yes, yes! Rob Roy, thank you! Everything feels so very special right now!
No, thank you! I'm very grateful to all of you.
The Dreamstone is said to be modeled on a crystal called rhodonite, which is also the name of the protagonist.
It's a crystal known to represent friendship, and in the story it can only be found when all kinds of villagers come together.
All kinds of people working together...
That's right. Do you remember? In Rhodonite and the Dreamstone...
The clever villager deciphers the map, the brave one clears the path, the strong one defeats the monster, the kind one offers emotional support, and the levelheaded one unites everyone.
If even one person was missing, they never would've made it to the Dreamstone.
For us to arrive at this point, we faced challenges that would be physically impossible to get past on our own.
The person who made this place must have wanted people to come together and combine their strengths too.
Yeah, true! Just today, Taiki gathered information, Rob Roy decoded the writing...
And if Dober hadn't stopped us, we all would've given up and gone back to the tree house!
That's so true! You know, I think we all played our part in the best way we could!
(To be honest, in the beginning, I thought we would do nothing more than imitate the story. And I would've been satisfied with that. But...)
(I'm grateful for all the beautiful sights we saw, the traps we overcame together, and most of all...)
(...)
(I'm... glad that I like books. I am!)
Woo! The last night of the trip is party night!
Rob Roy, are you sure about earlier? After all that searching, we put the Dreamstone back where we found it.
...I saw footprints inside the cave. It made me realize, there must've been other people who knew the story too.
So... I'd like to preserve the dream for the next "villagers" who come along after us. Because stories transcend time and place to stir dreams within us.
Yeah? Stir up dreams, you say? ...Oh, hey! I wanna know more about your favorite books sometime!
Me too! I never knew much about books, but that adrenaline-filled adventure we just had was super exciting!
G-gladly!
Say cheese! Oh, I'm out of battery! Haha! Oh well, I've already taken plenty of great pics!
I made so many wonderful memories with a beautiful backdrop! I'm so happy I came on this Summer Walk!
I see, so you enjoyed yourself, did you? Then, mission accomplished, I guess!
What mission? Oh! By any chance, when ya brought that pamphlet back to the room, was it for me?!
What?! Uh, I mean... You haven't been back home in a while, have you? So I thought... it might help take your mind off things a little...
Aw, is that why? I've gotta get better at being alone, I guess!
I don't think so.
Really? Why?
Well, Rob Roy said it just now. Your photos gave her a lot of joy.
The photos you take are full of smiles. Since you like people, that sentiment shows through naturally.
The whole reason we made it to the Dreamstone was thanks to your affable personality, after all.
So basically, you feeling lonely quickly is just proof that you love people. And I think that's a great quality about you.
Getting lonely is proof that I love people? Haha!
Then in that case, I'm fine just the way I am, aren't I?
Let's come here together again someday!
Hehe, you beat me to the invite once again. But, yes. It's a promise.
