Chapter 12: Cornwall Team Battle II

4 scenes, 61 lines

1. Outskirts of Tintagel Castle

22 lines

We retreated to the outskirts of Tintagel Castle. Everyone caught their breath, then prepared to fight once more.

Outskirts of Tintagel Castle

Elizabeth

Ethan, why are we staying here and not going into the castle?

Ethan

It's not time for siege warfare just yet.

I say we won the first battle. We're not backed into a corner here. We can still fight.

Elizabeth

Hmm...

I suppose the enemy would think it strange to shut ourselves in a castle now. It would look as if we fought well just to come here and fight with our back to the wall.

Ethan

Yeah, plus one other reason.

They have enough men that they'll only send a few this way while the rest head to the castle.

They'll think the castle is empty.

Elizabeth

But this is bad, is it not? The castle...

Ethan

No, Elizabeth. The best fighter hasn't even taken part yet.

Elizabeth cocked her head in confusion, then back in realization.

Elizabeth

You mean Dame Lua!

Bedivere

Your Highness! Ethan! The scouts have returned!

Ethan

Perfect timing. How'd it go?

Bedivere

Just as you thought. The Imperial Army is marching towards Tintagel Castle!

Ethan

I knew it! They're just trying to end this as fast as they can.

We should move too. We have to act surprised by them.

Let's go, Elizabeth!

Elizabeth

Yes, Ethan!

To bring the war to a swift close, the Imperial Army was marching to Tintagel Castle. To hit them from behind, we feigned surprise and gave chase ourselves.

2. Tintagel Streets

8 lines
Gaheris

Tsk, those pesky pests...

It is over now. You stand out front like fools, leaving your castle empty!

Elizabeth

Ethan! It's Gaheris!

Ethan

Oh, up for another sword duel, are ya?

Gaheris

Hah, do not think I will fall for that again.

We have breached the castle gate. It is but a matter of time before we find King Mark.

Ethan

That so? Gonna be hard with us still here.

Gaheris

Attack!!!

3. Tintagel Streets

10 lines
Gaheris

Curses... I admit it. You cannot be beaten by raw force.

Ethan

Took you long enough.

Gaheris

Silence! King Mark will have been caught by now. Victory is ours...

Ethan

You sure? I guess you haven't realized you fell into a trap yet.

James

G-General! It's a surprise attack! Soldiers are in the castle...!

Gaheris

Wh-What?!

What do you mean? The castle was empty! The... Swordmaster Lady! And... Catfolk?

Ethan

You were stupid enough to forget about Lua. And that the Catfolk have a number of strong warriors in their ranks.

Gaheris

Curse you!!!

The Imperial Army failed to realize Lua and the Catfolk were waiting in ambush within Tintagel Castle. Their negligence brought us one step closer to victory.

4. Tintagel Castle Rampart

21 lines

While the Castle Knights and Catfolk Forces under Lua's command were attacking the Imperial Army coming in,

Tristan and Isolde's men were striking them from behind outside.

It caught them off-guard, but with the sun down, they weren't able to respond forthwith.

They resisted with all their might, but the bodies only piled up.

Gaheris

Curses... Curses!!!

Ethan

Admit it. You lost.

Gaheris

I shan't forget this humiliation, Swordbringer.

Everyone back... Retreat!

The Imperial Army couldn't take any more and withdrew at last.

Isolde

We... We won! Cornwall is victorious, Father!

King Mark

Astonishing... Ethan, how many steps ahead were you thinking?

Victory over an army several times our size...!

Ethan

I told you, strategy's important.

I'll refrain from adding that luck helped.

King Mark

No matter how careless their actions, this victory will go down in history!

See that the injured are tended to and the broken structures repaired!

Furthermore, I do declare that as of this moment, the Kingdom of Cornwall will join the alliance!

Soldiers

Yaaaaah!!!

Their cries of elation shook the heavens.

The siege of Cornwall was over.

The Imperial Army, ambushed at the forest entrance, got stuck in a siege at Tintagel Castle, which they believed to be empty, and lost another battle. It was a war that no one could predict we could win, and I led Cornwall to victory.
