Chapter 33: Reunion with the Illegitimate

So, you've turned even Mercia into an enemy. That accursed human experimentation seems to be delaying the unification of the continent.

I deeply apologize, Your Majesty.

But, if you recall how the enhancement magic from the experiments shattered King Uther's army, you might reconsider.

...

Elizabeth's influence is growing. Their next destination is...

If they are uniting forces through an alliance pledge, it will be Elaia.

Elaia is nothing to worry about, Your Majesty. It's already a fallen nation.

Already fallen? Have you done something?

Lisa has gone there.

... If she's involved, there's no need to worry.

Yes, King Edward will not join the war.

...

?!

Long time no see, darling.

Enya?

Hmm, you've become more confident since last time. You're looking quite dashing.

Enough with the jokes. What's going on?

Someone wants to see you. Follow me.

Sir Mordred...

It's been a while, Elizabeth.

I hope the gift from Salisbury was to your liking.

Wait... so the reason the enemy retreated so easily in Salisbury was...

Why did you help us?

Would it make sense if I told you I share the same goal as you, Elizabeth? Revenge.

But, Sir Mordred...

You wouldn't understand the humiliation I've endured, Elizabeth.

Even now, when I say I share your goal.

But I am also a child of King Uther. I'm merely fulfilling my duty as his child.

A double agent...? So why have you summoned us?

I've heard of your exploits in Mercia. Vortigern is now taking you guys very seriously.

Is the next pledge in Elaia?

How did you...

News of the allied forces gathering has already reached the Britannia Castle.

But securing an alliance pledge from Elaia right now will be difficult. A vile witch has infiltrated that place.

Who is it?

Lisa, the Apostle of Envy. The Tiamat apostles possess unfathomable powers.

I don't know how you managed to kill Simon, but from that alone, you must have realized apostles aren't easy opponents.

Ugh... bad memories are resurfacing...

Simon... he wasn't an ordinary man. We thought he was dead, but he transformed into some strange demonic form.

That's the power of the apostles. And Simon was among the weakest of them.

Even so, we can't back down. Elaia's strength is essential.

Is there no way, Sir Mordred?

Well, there is one. You might not remember, but King Edward has a young daughter.

If Lisa has already seized control of the royal family, she's likely using that daughter. That might be the key to resolving this.

... Thank you, Sir Mordred.

Let's go, Ethan.

... Okay.
