14 scenes, 3,395 lines
1. Part 1
134 linesO Holy Rekos, is this all as you envisioned?
Have I been acting as your tool without realizing all this time?
Why... For what purpose...?
What need is there...
For so much unjust death...? The screams, buried...
Young priest...
Is this...what Rekos wanted to achieve through me?
I have no answer for you.
All I know is that His intentions are far beyond our comprehension.
I suppose you are correct.
But...since the day I learned the truth, I have tried so desperately to walk a path of penance to find an answer. I could endure no longer...
I wondered if perhaps I would be able to hear His voice, or find even the faintest of signs...
I wanted...something to explain how we reached such tragedy.
But I never found anything. Perhaps my penance was inadequate.
I do not think that is it. When I found you out in the wilderness, you were on the verge of death.
And you were muttering incoherently to yourself.
What happened to you out there?
After visiting the Grave of Hidden Saints...I held a ritual of penance in the wilderness.
My body would swing wildly between high fevers and chills in a single day. Semiconscious, I began dreaming...
What did you see in these dreams?
My life... A mixture of my past and present.
When I was a young boy...I saved the life of a bishop. I wanted to show off, so I came out with all sorts of nonsense.
Nonsense that led to the deaths of many innocents.
No one is truly innocent.
I heard a voice ask, "Is this our god's will?"
But if we cannot know His will, does it hold any meaning at all? It became clear immediately...that it was my own voice that I had heard.
My own weakness and the monsters born of those thoughts stood in my way.
I charged forward, cutting them down. And standing at the end of that dark road...
Was me.
The other me raised his sword...and asked me a question.
"Hero of Rekos, what do you fight for?"
Did you answer?
Vessel of Rekos.
I cut him, me, down with my sword... And he asked another question...
"How much longer are you going to keep repeating this?"
...Yes, those exact words. That's when I realized. I would spend an eternity stuck within this dream, forgetting and repeating, forgetting and repeating, over and over...
I began to think I would never be able to stop the wheels of fate from turning. And that's when...the other me pierced me with his sword.
And you woke up.
You saw me sitting before you and asked me of Rekos's will. Just like the bishop asked you when you were a boy.
And can you tell me, young priest?
Of course, Straze.
He who was a guardian of divinity... Born with the destiny to kill it.
My will...is for you to become a vessel.
CHAPTER 10 Slayer
Distorted Dimension
So the Dark Star was you all along...
There are a number of other large, black stars besides me. You cannot distinguish me by those features alone.
I heard Straze calling you Fastus...?
One of many names I have. It is unimportant.
What exactly are you?
I did not create this break in time in order to explain to you how you may perceive me.
Then let me ask you another question. Why did you make this place?
Why opt for an awkward meeting like this rather than attack us head-on?
This was the best way to make full use of the time we have.
With a few more drops of the blood of Orbis, this unnecessary conflict will come to an end.
Meaning your advent is incomplete, hence why you created this place instead...
You still cannot come to Orbis directly, can you?
That changes nothing.
You people suffer and then condemn your suffering to oblivion, only to start all over again. All I am doing is waiting for that tedious repetition to end.
Oblivion?
Of course, you cannot remember something which you have chosen to forget.
Why should I believe anything you say?
Cease your resisting. There is no need for this.
I do not desire ruin.
I know. What you want is the Sanctuary and what is hidden within it.
Give me what I desire, and your world will be safe. You have my word.
Your words drip with too much malice for me to trust them.
Again, that changes nothing. The result will be the same.
I will fight to the very end to prove you wrong.
You have already tried and failed several times over, you are simply unaware of it.
That changes nothing. I will still fight.
You will regret it. Small, dying god.
Act 1 A Storm of Doubts
Divergence Point
Hmm...
Ras!
Master! Are you okay? You were completely zoned out!
Is this...our first try?
Huh? What do you mean?
...Nothing. Ignore me.
But...where are we?
It's hard to say. It appears to be a space between dimensions.
We were definitely in the Comet Temple just a moment ago.
At its highest point.
We must have fallen into that horrible vortex at the top!
Arky doesn't like this!
The Sky Gate must have gotten bigger and swallowed us within it.
But I have no clear memory after that point. Strange.
I heard a voice. It was so low and horrible.
Same!
It felt so horrible, it was like my heart would explode. It said something about an "advent'?
It was Fastus, the Dark Star.
He must be the one from the prophecy!
He's over there, waiting for us.
The Chosen Ones have arrived.
Hurry and complete my advent. I wish to swallow your lives, not your deaths.
What does that even mean?
Straze was ours... How did this happen?
Right!? I thought we'd finished!
But...I still feel Roana's power in me. Her and Straze haven't disappeared yet either.
Fastus is trying to take real form through Straze's body, and he nearly succeeded, too. But he still seems incomplete.
Kyu!? Then what happens once he is complete?
Then Fastus will be able to exist in our world while maintaining his full power.
I can't even bear to imagine it.
We need to stop Fastus before he becomes strong enough to leave this place.
It is no use. You people cannot harm me.
You will do little more than scratch my physical vessel, my true self will remain untouched.
I didn't think we'd end up facing something like this.
I'm sure if I shoot enough bullets it will eventually get the job done.
No... This thing is completely different from Straze. Even the Vigilant Eye is blind...
Divine, and yet so...malicious...
Let's get started, shall we?
The time has come for your defeat. It has already been decided.
He's...regenerating...
All that hard work for nothing.
Luluca, have you been able to identify any weak points?
None at all. I think he's beyond the rules of the world we know.
Our attacks aren't doing a thing!
I'm certain I did some damage...
But now Fastus is regenerating as if we'd done nothing at all.
Is it because we can't reach this "true self" he was talking about?
Now it's my turn.
Huh?
...!
Whoa!
Kyu! Kyuuuu!
Ras...
Argh...!
I can feel your despair.
But once you give in to that despair, there is peace.
It is a blessing from creator to humble creation.
Silent as a storm, sweet as agony...
Fall into your thoughts.
Into deep and comfortable oblivion.
2. Part 2
42 linesI was born in an old, abandoned house deep in the Shandra Ruins.
My parents were nomads. I don't know where they were originally from or why they were forced to leave. And I never asked.
Not because I thought it would be inappropriate to ask, but because I didn't think it really mattered.
I don't have many memories of my time in the ruins, probably because I was so young.
All I remember is the tension of riding my father's back as we ran, and trying my best to be quiet while we hid.
In those days, when we had no city to protect us from any sudden threats...
The most important thing was survival.
Act 2 Loyalty I
Distorted Dimension, Fragment of Solitary Contemplation
Mother and father would guide pilgrims through the Shandra Ruins and receive money and food as payment.
I always liked it when pilgrims came because I wouldn't need to hide from them.
I would stick close to my mother and follow them around. It was a lot safer than staying behind by myself.
It was a comfortable life until the numbers of monsters and bandits began growing.
Hmm...
That's strange... Memories of the ruins are starting to come back to me.
One in particular I had long since forgotten...
Shandra Ruins, Pavel's Childhood
Bandits! Run!
Shut yer mouth!
Ack!
Ahh! How did they find us here? We need to escape...
You lot sure are fast runners. Give me everything you have if you want to live!
S-Somebody save me!
As the number of pilgrims grew, rumors spread that nomads were earning a lot of money, and bandits began appearing more often.
And when it wasn't bandits, it was the local beasts instead...
Night or day, we never felt truly safe.
Eventually, many of us ended up leaving the ruins.
We walked and walked ever further west, searching for a land to settle, burying those who fell along the way.
Were you looking for somewhere safe?
Right, anywhere was fine as long as we could sleep safe in our beds at night.
You yearned for the safety of city walls, didn't you?
Constella, Witchaven, Aakhen...
None of them would take us, they wouldn't even allow us to stay temporarily.
And more of us kept dying...staring up at those city walls...
It's a miracle you yourself survived.
Nobody thought I would, they all thought I was far too young to last long.
But I had a goal.
Something I'd never seen up close, something I'd only ever heard of from the adults around me, something I could only imagine while surrounded by lifeless ruins.
You were determined to see a city for yourself.
And maybe that's why I was able to survive.
3. Part 3
93 linesWithout being able to pass through Aakhen or Witchaven, we couldn't even get a glimpse of Meldrec.
But I'm sure there was no way they would have accepted us non-Muhr either.
I can't remember why Perland was the last city we tried... I was more concerned with other things.
But thinking back now, I suppose it was because so many in our group of nomads already had stories of being driven from there before.
Maybe my parents were among them.
But that isn't important. What I remember clearly is...
The Perland Guards saved us from a group of bandits at their southern wall.
The gate is opening! There are soldiers coming out!
Are they coming to help us?
Perland Guards, charge! We have to protect these people from those bandits!
Fire!
Urk...!
Dammit! Let's get out of here!
Those guards escorted us back through the gates, and the citylord gave us permission to settle there.
He promised us that as long as we upheld our duties as citizens, the past could be left in the past.
How fortunate for you all, you arrived just as Perland was in need of migrants. As you know...
Nothing is free. I know.
In order to make up for the labor shortage caused by their civil war, the council of Perland had decided on a policy to accept as many migrants as they could manage.
I didn't find that out until later, but as you say, we were very fortunate.
Still, even despite that, it's clear to me that guard officer was helping us purely out of the kindness of his heart.
Soon after we settled down in North Perland, I was able to meet that guard officer again.
You don't need to pay me back for anything, kid.
I was just doing my job, that's all.
What is your job, mister?
Protecting this great city of ours, of course.
This city...?
That's right.
Thanks to this city, your parents can work each day without any fear and you can safely grow up into a big, strong adult.
And when you're big and strong like me, you too can save people in trouble, just like I did for you a few days ago.
Ah...
And those people you save? Well, I'm sure they'll go on to save even more people.
Wow! That's incredible!
It is only thanks to this city that it is possible for me to save the life of a complete stranger.
That is why I have sworn to protect it.
Act 3 Loyalty II
Distorted Dimension, Hardened Heart Dimension
The city really moved for you?
Sure, there were times like that.
But not always.
You know as well as I do that cities are living, breathing creatures.
And so you protected one another from threats?
Of course, there were times like that.
And sometimes there were not. Lilias Perlutia, for example.
...That's where I come in. It is my duty to protect the city from people like that.
And who gave you that duty?
The city.
The city? Who within the city?
...
You already know the answer too, don't you?
Those people who join the Raiders because they think it will make them look cool, but start complaining the second things don't go their way...
I just don't feel the need to say it myself.
But you agree to some extent.
Why don't the real citizens of Perland come out and fight?
Why must an immigrant like you leave the city and risk his life?
Real citizens...
Those nobles born and raised in Perland.
That...
You cannot deny it, can you?
While they stay behind the safety of their walls...
We venture into the dangerous world outside, hunting and tracking and fighting in their place.
We are devoted to the city.
And they take advantage of that.
...
And what did Lilias give us for our devotion? For our loyalty...
You think these new people will be different, don't you? Do you really believe those nobles of the council will welcome you with open arms, the wolf who turned on his former master?
...I can't be certain.
Face reality, Pavel! Don't sit there waiting for a reward like some house pet, get out there and fight for what we deserve!
We can have everything we want if only we reach out and grab it. Not for the city, but for us!
You're too scared to run free of your leash.
Because you may also be wrong.
Not all nobles are hiding behind the walls, just as not all migrants volunteer for the army.
Violet had no need to join the Raiders, yet he did anyway. And he always takes the lead on dangerous missions.
He says it's for the honor of his family, but his heart is pure. He takes on every mission with full sincerity.
He is only one exception.
And it was the city I'm responsible for protecting that created that exception.
Violet swore the same oath that I did.
To fight for the city of Perland and protect the safety and happiness of its citizens.
Is that childish ideal more important than yourself? You're no wolf, you're no better than a slave.
You cannot survive like that. I will prove it to you.
...
I never thought I was fighting for Lilias's sake.
Not once.
No person ever used me. Only the city that took me in as a child, Perland.
Perland will always stand, helping those who need it most.
Just like that guard officer said.
What's that light? Could it be...?
I should head towards it.
4. Part 4
55 linesWe were once one of the great families of Perland.
Not to say we are completely disgraced nowadays... But long ago, we enjoyed the honor of being one of the powerful founding families of the city.
My father always told me the same thing...
About how it was up to me to regain it.
My son, do you know how we've kept our family's honor? Through sacrifice.
Sacrifice for the country and the weak, that's how we brought honor to our family... There will come a day when you have to make a decision yourself.
When that time comes...just remember this, son. You'll know what choice to make to keep our family's honor...
Nothing is more important than a family's honor.
And protecting it requires great personal sacrifice. Mother and father drilled that into me from a young age.
As soon as I took my first steps, I was taught swordsmanship. And when I began showing promise, my parents' expectations grew.
You're a genius, Violet! You must use your talent to bring glory back to the Harrison name.
He was always a loving and caring father, but whenever he spoke of our family name, he'd become an entirely different person.
Perhaps it was because our family's fall happened in his youth...? He held onto a tremendous amount of guilt about it.
He thought it was his fault our family was being forced out of the council.
Act 4 Honor I
I can't believe it. The little boy who once could hardly hold up a sword is now old enough to join the Perland Raiders.
Do you remember that week I gave you special training?
You promised never to mention that again! What if someone hears...?
Distorted Dimension, Fragments of Heavy Memory
The first defeat I ever suffered was at the sword hand of Lilias.
No matter how hard I tried, I could not beat her. Of course, she was the best there was, so it was only to be expected.
Pride in her bloodline, the confidence to achieve anything she aims for, and the speed and precise judgment of a genius swordswoman.
I admired her from the moment I first met her.
If only I could shine as brightly as her...
If I could become like her, I would be able to live up to my parents' expectations.
But that was far easier said than done.
The harder I strived to be more like her, the more clearly I felt my limitations.
Her confidence and technical ability could be learned, but that sheer cold-blooded drive to achieve her goals was not quite so easy to imitate.
Perhaps my parents' words to sacrifice myself for honor were too deeply embedded in my mind.
Unable to improve, but also unable to give up... I needed an escape.
A beautiful ball on a beautiful night with a beautiful woman. May I kiss your hand?
*giggling* Oh my, I don't think I've ever met a man so handsome. Are you the great Sir Violet I've heard so much about?
Sir? You flatter me. I'm yet to take any oath of knighthood.
Oh, well, there's no need to care about such things nowadays anyway. Besides, wouldn't putting such a handsome man like you in danger be a crime against the public interest?
I knew you would be as wise as you are beautiful, my lady.
Oh stop, I'm blushing.
To distract myself from the uneasiness in my heart, I treated every day like it was a party.
Sweet fruit wines, colorful lights, fragrant perfumes.
Before I knew it, I was somewhat of a celebrity among Perland's high society.
For years I didn't return home. I was tired of my father's lectures and my mother's nagging.
Until the day I returned to my hotel room to find a letter on the bed.
My father had died.
I needed to return home.
My mother had been suffering from a chronic illness, which had worsened considerably by the time I arrived.
I didn't leave after the funeral, and stayed beside her sickbed instead.
She insisted it was fine for me to go as she had her maids to look after her, but I didn't want to make the same mistake I had with my father.
I wanted to be with her until her very last breath.
Violet... I believe in you...
I know...you can...regain our lost...honor...
But... Violet...
Mother...?
Mother!?
She held my hand as she spoke. It was her last will and testament, but she only got as far as my name when her eyes closed one final time.
I found out much later what it was she had wanted to say, but even if I had heard it then, it would not have changed anything.
I became determined to do whatever it took to regain our family's former glory.
5. Part 5
86 linesYou want to take the oath?
I'm already your squire. It's only natural for you to be the one to knight me.
Does this mean no more parties? I'm sure your high society friends will be heartbroken, the rumors floating around about you are rather impressive. Even I've managed to hear them.
Things are different now...
Is that so?
I have changed. I promise.
Doubtful...
How do we do this? Do I kiss your hand?
No, thank you. Hurry up and kneel before me.
I will work hard to make sure you don't regret this.
In the name of the great city of Perland and heroes past, I give you the right to wield arms in the pursuit of justice.
Will you swear never to forget your honor and your loyalty?
I, Violet Harrison, swear never to forget my honor and loyalty.
Then arise, Sir Violet Harrison.
Thank you, Lilias.
You were knighted by a member of the royal bloodline herself, you should be honored. But why so sudden?
Have you met a nice young woman you wish to marry? Does her family require you to be a knight?
Not at all! It's been months since I've had anything to do with a woman!
Then...the army?
That's right. I intend to enlist in the Perland Raiders. I know I can just volunteer, but if I want my family name to become known, I need to be an officer.
Like Lilias, most people I knew had their doubts when they first heard.
They didn't believe I was truly sincere.
Raiders each have their own reasons for joining, and mine was for the sake of my family.
And because your rise would mean nothing unless you started at the bottom. Am I wrong?
No, you aren't. I had confidence in my abilities, I thought I was unique. Few others last long as a squire of the Perlutia family.
And the quickest way to make a name for yourself is to take on the most dangerous missions.
I never once turned anything down. Thanks to that, the people of Perland once again speak the Harrison name.
Lilias deserves some credit too, though, doesn't she?
...Sure, it's true that Lilias's own rise had some advantages to me as well.
That did help restore my family's name...
High society circles spoke in whispers of how you may even become the youngest person to ever join the council.
Though only as a puppet of Lilias's, of course...
Those people just like to gossip. You know as well as I do such nonsense is the best way to become popular with those types.
And yet you were excited. You vowed to do whatever it took to regain your family's former glory, remember?
...
Act 5 Honor II
Distorted Dimension, Free Heart Dimension
The last words I heard from my father as I ran from home and my mother as she lay in her sickbed were almost the same.
"I believe in you..."
But I couldn't give them an answer.
But eventually you succeeded. You made the Harrison name great again, just as your parents wished.
Now you need to finish the job. You must overcome the greatest hurdle in your life. Lilias.
And yet you still stand within her shadow. You must succeed where she failed.
Return to Perland and join the council. Sir Charles will make sure there is a seat on it for you. It will be advantageous for him to have you there, after all.
Hmm...
I believe in you, Violet. I know you can do it.
Before I left to investigate the Unknown, I stopped by the manor. One of the maids had a letter for me.
She told me she'd accidentally come across it while cleaning my mother's old room.
Maybe she'd decided to write her final will down in case she became too sick to speak later on.
She had something to say to us, didn't she?
Right... It wasn't much different from what she told me herself. That she believed in me, that I have the talent and the willpower to achieve what I need to.
And that I should not be afraid of living freely as myself. She said father had felt the same too.
I'm sure that's what she was trying to tell me at the end.
Ruling over the city under the name of Harrison, that's who you really are.
Living free of all these lowly "missions" unbefitting of a genius such as yourself.
If I'm honest, I never gave much thought to the exact meaning of what she said.
You shouldn't have to, it's obvious.
I knew it wouldn't be any help in allowing me to achieve my parents' dreams.
Now go out there and take the power you deserve.
Your family will remember your name forever! That is how you make your parents proud.
But...I think I know now.
Know what?
There was something Luluca once told me... I get it now! Now I understand what she was saying.
Forget about her. Just like you've forgotten all those other women. She's going to leave back to her home planet when this is all over anyway.
*chuckling* Come to think of it, maybe my genius is limited only to my sword. I'm pretty slow when it comes to anything else.
...Why are you eating an apple?
Because it's time to duel.
I refuse to let it end...
Like this...
What Lilias did devastated me. She was the person I looked up to most, I wanted her recognition even more than my own parents'.
There was one night when I was standing on watch, quietly suffering, and Luluca came and spoke to me...
I don't know if this will help you feel any better...
But I believe that whatever choice you make, it will be the right one.
Do what your heart tells you, just like you always have. That's the kind of person you are.
It was the same thing my mother told me in her letter.
Now I understand what she really wanted to say.
What they really, truly wanted deep down was to see me living free and happy.
That even as they demanded I raise our family up, they were beating themselves up for it on the inside.
After I ran away, they wanted nothing more than for me to come back home and to tell me how they really felt. But they could never bring themselves to reach out first.
Not because they hated me for failing to live up to their expectations, but because they hated themselves for forcing those expectations upon me. So she wrote their feelings in that letter instead.
Luluca helped me realize that. And you dare call her the same as every other woman?
You better watch what you say, you grape-headed little!
Ah, it's bright...
Huh, what is that? Some kind of...path?
6. Part 6
67 linesI wasn't entirely sure what was happening. Nobody ever told me. But even if they had, I was too young to really understand anyway.
All I knew was I'd never see my parents again.
It was obvious looking at the other children I'd been put with.
There were some who only knew that their parents had gone out one day and never come back, and others who had seen the bodies with their own eyes.
Among those there were some who would cry day and night, and others who would teach the rest, saying how we'll need to live for ourselves from now on.
And then there was me, in a daze, like it was nothing more than a bad dream.
This one. I'll take her.
A shaman came to find an orphan child for their shrine and chose me. As I sat in my new room there...
That's when I finally accepted reality.
I was alone. The things I'd lost would never come back to me.
Act 6 Piety I
It's so late, and yet you don't seem to be able to get to sleep, Luluca.
...
What are you doing in here? What's that you're carrying?
I...hate you all... You can all...go to hell...
Is that what you've always wanted to tell me?
I...I'm going to...
You want to burn us all away?
Y-Yes... Yes, I'm...
I'm going to burn you all to ash!
Distorted Dimension, Shadow of a Harsh Past
Back then, I hated everyone. Human and god alike.
I held no grudge against anyone in particular. It was more like, having watched my own world crumble...
I hated to see the rest of the world carry on around me.
I wished it would all disappear.
Then, as now, I felt better once I was able to act out what I'd set my mind on doing.
Once you've burned everything down, will that make it all better?
...Yes.
Try and imagine it. What it would look like for this whole shrine, even that effigy there, to burn to the ground, leaving nothing but ash.
...Is it okay for a shaman like you to tell me to imagine burning an effigy of Rekos?
I think so. After all, it's just a wood-carved copy of the big bronze one in the Grand Cathedral.
But maybe it will burn Rekos Himself...
Don't be silly, it's only a piece of wood, it's obviously not really Rekos.
But...those scary priests said that Rekos will never forgive anyone who insults Him...
Well, those people were wrong. They only use the name of Rekos as an excuse to do as they please.
Rekos didn't tell them to do it?
Of course not, why would He? He has better things to worry about.
So that statue wasn't made because Rekos commanded it?
Not at all, I made it because I wanted to. I was just hacking at a piece of wood, trying to think of the statue from the days I spent studying at the Grand Cathedral.
I kneel before it when I pray to Rekos and talk to Him within my heart, but of course it's not really Him. It's only a symbol.
I'm fond of it because it was my first one and I really put my heart into it...
But if losing it is what it takes to calm and open the heart of an apprentice who is straying, I won't miss it one bit.
I... No... It's not like...
But, Luluca... Burning down the entire shrine is very different. There are people who live here.
Seeing them all just as sad as you...
Having lost all they had...
Will it really make you feel better...?
...No.
That's... That's not what I want...
Come here, Luluca. Let me hold you.
...
Now, now... Everything will be okay.
*sobbing* That's not...what I wanted...
I know, Luluca. I know you're not that kind of girl.
R-Really?
Of course! From the moment I first saw you, I knew you were kinder and more special than anyone else.
A troublemaking little girl who would scream at prayer times, cause all sorts of chaos, even bite the hands of the other shamans...
After that day, I became a whole new person. But that isn't to say the change happened all at once.
With each day, I took another step towards becoming a true shaman.
*giggling* Violet would laugh if he heard me say that. "You're telling me THIS is what a true shaman looks like?"
A true shaman... Do you really think so? Are you satisfied with this?
I'm far from the stereotypical image of the ideal shaman, but I tried hard to look beyond artificial symbolism, as the high shaman taught me.
To see our god for what He truly is. Perhaps that's why I am so blessed by Him.
Then how will you repay Him?
Repay...?
As the chosen shaman, how will you serve your god?
Hmm...
7. Part 7
57 linesDistorted Dimension, Pure Heart Dimension
How will I serve...Rekos?
Yes. What can you do for Him?
Isn't it obvious? I'll catch Straze and bring life back to the planet...
That's right, you need to kill Straze! To avenge the high shaman and all the Spirits who died because of him!
I lost everything again... Just like back then...
That's why I swore never to forgive him! And make him pay for what he's done!
You promised that little Spirit...
You would make Rekos beautiful again.
I remember. They called me their last hope.
We got our revenge against Straze. We...
We ended him.
Now all that's left is to bring Rekos back to life. God and planet.
That is the calling of the chosen shaman.
But...aren't I forgetting something? Something... Something still left undone...
No. Nothing at all.
I don't know. Something feels...off.
I told you, there's nothing. It's not like you to be so insecure.
You just need to keep running forward! All you need to focus on now is bringing your planet back to life!
But I don't know how. Straze already killed...
Rekos is not dead. At least, not completely.
Rekos is still alive!?
Before Rekos faded away completely, Straze took hold of Him and sealed Him within his cape.
As you know yourself, that cape of his contains some kind of special dimension invisible to others.
He must have thought I would never realize. These lowly creatures...
Huh?
Anyway, we killed Straze, so now Rekos's soul can return to bring life to the planet.
...Is this what Roana was talking about?
Leave the fate of Orbis to its own people, and let's go home! We'll bring it back to its former beauty. Rekos will be so happy!
...
That is the path of the chosen shaman. Your path!
But I won't be happy.
After all I've done up until now, do you really think I would abandon Orbis like that?
Listen to yourself! The chosen shaman...
Abandoning my friends in their hour of greatest need was not what I was chosen for.
And...now my mind is getting clearer, I remember!
What did you call this? Some kind of seafood?
That's right, it's a kind of shrimp that's usually found northeast of the harbor.
We have a dish that tastes similar to this, but it's made with these salty and nutty mushrooms instead of seafood.
I can make it for you when we go back to Rekos. *giggling*
I already have a future I want.
I'm beginning to remember everything! Who even are you!? You're just a sloppy imitation of me!
Me? I'm Luluca, the chosen shaman! I'll get rid of you and achieve the rest of the prophecy my own way!
Foolish mortal, you failed to realize it this time as well.
This...time?
Such piety, yet you do not realize when you are in the presence of a god?
You and Rekos are going to lose your chance.
Forever.
Hmph!
You act like some great, all-knowing god, but you're only guessing, just like the rest of us.
I serve a true god. A real god. The beginning of all things, the law that everything is born, and moves, then disappears.
Like the high shaman told me...
I must see past that wooden carving of Rekos, to the providence beyond it.
I call Rekos's name, but that's all it is. A name. What we need is to feel the holiness we wish to convey through that name.
That's how we protect ourselves from all these false and evil gods.
That light...
Act 7 Piety II
8. Part 8
103 linesKyuu...
Where am I...?
Arky was fighting, and then...
It was... Kyu! Arky can't remember who he was fighting!
This is bad. Why can't I remember...?
Then, then, what's your Guardian like? Is it huge and enormous like in the legends?
Eh... There are Guardians like that, but Arky is normally more like a fat cat...
W-What's that noise? This voice sounds familiar...
Like a fat cat? Hmm... ah!
Like that cat?
Right. Like that one...
Arky's been here before... Arky knows what's about to happen!
Aither and Master appear and they chase after Arky...and hit him. And then stroke him. Then Iseria appears and...
Are you ready, Arky?
...! This is animal cruelty! I'm going to report you! Animal rights activists will be all...over...this?
...Poor little guy, he really doesn't look good.
He must be nervous.
Kyuu!? Meru? What are you doing here? Where's Aither...?
There definitely appears to be something wrong with him.
Hmm, we really can't afford to waste much more time. Let's go.
Something is weird... It isn't supposed to be like this.
Where are we going?
Are you joking, Arky? Or is there a problem with your memory?
Where else would we be going? To defeat the Archdemon, of course.
D-Defeat the Archdemon?
That's right. We need to recover our strength in the Sanctuary and prepare for the final battle!
Act 8 Partner
Distorted Dimension, Corridor of the Subconscious
It's so normal, and also so strange.
It feels right to defeat the Archdemon. But somehow, it also feels...wrong.
What do you keep sitting there thinking so deeply about? If you keep stopping like this, we'll just leave you behind.
Master isn't talking or acting like himself either...
Or...is he?
That's right! Something happened recently and he started changing a little!
Arky! Where do you keep going? If you don't want to come with us...
No, Arky's coming!
Kyuu... I'm so confused...
Distorted Dimension, Corridor of the Subconscious
Master, I want to ask you something.
Go on.
Where are we really going? You said we were going to the Sanctuary, but this place looks super weird.
It doesn't seem like we'll end up at the Sanctuary no matter how long we keep going.
I agree.
It's hard to say. I think something might be wrong with my memory as well. I can't seem to find the way to the Sanctuary...
Do you remember what the Sanctuary looks like, Arky?
Or how to get there?
Of course! It's uhh...
Hurry up and tell us.
It's umm... Kyuu...
You must tell us now, Arky!
Kyuu... This is all so strange...
We don't have time for this! With every second we waste, the Archdemon gets stronger!
...Alright, tell Arky this. Master, are you confident you can defeat the Archdemon?
Why are you asking such a stupid question?
You don't seem as determined as you used to be.
But couldn't that be because he's so confident?
Don't worry, there's new strength awakened inside me.
Right. New strength...
But what's the name of the Archdemon we're going to fight? Is it Anghraf?
That's right.
Isn't that weird? You got your new power by defeating Anghraf, and it didn't awaken until longer after Anghraf was gone...
But you say we're fighting Anghraf now too?
Oh, well then this is the Archdemon after Anghraf...
The Archdemon after Anghraf was you, Meru. But you don't like to talk about that, do you?
...
And that's not all! The first time we fought Anghraf, Meru wasn't even there! You... You're both acting really weird! Who are you really!?
...
...
Arky's all alone again...
Where am I...?
That isn't important.
Kyuu!
What's important is that you...we are alone.
Arky's not alone! Arky has Master, and Meru, and...
Are you so sure?
Ras has fulfilled his calling. Do you think he still needs a Guardian?
Of course! We've already finished fighting the Archdemons, but we're still together!
What about when he becomes fully Human? What about after his new, mortal life ends? You will end up alone either way.
Kyuu... Th-Then... Kyuu...
Arky will be alone... There's somewhere Arky will need to go...
The Sanctuary.
Right... That's the only place Arky can go...
Think. How will you get there... What does it look like...?
What's inside it...
Arky doesn't want to be there all alone... Arky will be so sad.
Arky can find a new master...
But who would take you?
No... It will be hard to find a new master willing to give Arky so many snacks.
Arky only has one master.
Is Ras really so special?
Yes.
This time right now is precious to Arky.
Master said we're more than Guardian and Heir, he said we're partners.
No matter what, Master will stay with Arky. I know it.
Nobody can know what the future holds! Master's future, Arky's future, and the future of Arky's friends... They're all the same!
Arky won't worry about the future. And Arky won't give up on this precious time together with his master!
Foolish beast.
Watch your words! If you get Arky angry, he will transform and bite you!
...
Kyuu?
Something strange has appeared... Arky's scared.
Kyuu! Arky can smell Master!
Times like this call for courage! I'm going in!
9. Part 9
59 linesThe Archdemon's presence inside Meru is gone, but...I think so has her soul.
Kyuu... How could it end like this... Meru, are we never going to meet again?
...No.
Mercedes's body is here.
So if we can just separate Mercedes's soul from the Archdemon's... if we can...
Master...?
Distorted Dimension, Garden of Tenacious Hearts
Ras...?
Why am I remembering that time...?
Is it because it felt the same way? Trapped, alone, in a strange place?
You were not alone back then...
You...?
You were accompanied by unimaginable strength.
Strength...?
Act 9 The Strength to Protect
Divine power, held within a ready-made vessel.
You, no, we were immaculate...
Don't try to deceive yourself.
You are a true savior, veiled in false myth.
I'm not so sure.
It seems to me that you are the one deceiving yourself.
I have to find Ras and Arky. I would appreciate it if you would not get in my way.
You are persistent.
We are restricted by weak divinity. Then, now, and in the future.
You must escape his shadow.
Ras is not weak!
...Of course. To you, he was strong.
If Mercedes became the Archdemon, what would I do?
And...what would Mercedes want, in the end?
Archdemon.
I will defeat you and sow new hope in this land.
Ras made the best choice he could!
You are still deceiving yourself. That naivety is exactly what kept you from surpassing him!
That's not true.
It was I who held the Strength of Ilryos! Ilryos chose a Homunculus, created to be the vessel for a god.
Not some Human swayed by emotion to betray their comrades.
I never wanted to be chosen.
Think again. It's not too late. I am destined to become a god, the most powerful being on all of Orbis.
This strength you once yearned for can be yours.
I don't want it.
I want the strength I have now, the strength to protect those things precious to me.
I have no need for strength only able to bring ruin.
You will regret those words.
...Kal, destroy everything!
Foolish Homunculus...
You are nothing but the creation of other lowly creatures.
I still remember.
A sense of helplessness eating away at me, fear that felt it would last forever. And, as I was lost in that despair...
The sound of Ras's voice.
But... How will you save her? Do you know a way to save Meru's soul?
I don't know yet. But...
Mercedes didn't give up.
So I won't give up on Mercedes either.
Just like Ras, I won't give up.
So Ras, please don't give up either.
A crack of light... Kal is reacting to it.
Could it be an exit?
10. Part 10
222 linesLife can be so surprising.
Beings that were once so small and delicate have become so imposing and resilient.
But...will things truly be alright without me?
I know what you're worried about.
In this enormous universe there may be countless beings other than the Archdemon that might threaten the world of Orbis.
So you are aware...
That I will destroy the world of Orbis.
Will things truly be alright without your powerless protector?
Fastus!
Even if your Diche were here, it would change nothing. I find no entertainment in the cruelty of killing.
The same is true of your inner self, full of endless repetitions of death and sadness.
I feel not even the slightest interest.
You're losing your patience.
I can tell from how talkative you're becoming.
You're wrong.
It is nothing more than mocking the losers as my victory nears.
It has taken longer than I had hoped, but a few more repetitions and it will be finished. I will set foot on Orbis in full form.
Th-That's not true.
Are you still relying on your unreliable memory, child of oblivion?
Awake, and find out for yourself.
Argh!
...!
Good...
He may be right.
Even if everything else he says is a lie, that we are unable to harm him is fact.
This fight will continue to repeat itself until we finally lose, unless we can find a way to stop him.
"The one who is closest to Human nature shall save the world."
Ah, could that be what it meant?
The process and consequences of losing my holiness... Was this all pre-determined?
But I still can't let it go.
Because...
Will things truly be alright without me?
Because...
Because I was scared...?
Why can I not let go of my holiness?
Promise...
Is it so I can keep the promise I made before?
Is it...lingering regret?
Because I want to hold onto remnants of the past...?
Okay. It's time I let go.
Just like I told Diche...
The people... The life of Orbis... They'll be alright without me, won't they?
Distorted Dimension, Twisted Core
Because they are strong.
Because each of us lives according to our own will.
Because we each face fate in our own way.
Because all beings are equal.
Act 10 Retribution
It seems you've finally escaped from those exceptionally dull concerns of yours.
Shall we begin, Fastus?
Aren't you going to wait for your comrades? Not that it will make any difference.
There's only one way to find out.
Meru!
You should know, I always need to be by your side.
Don't forget Arky!
When did you get here?
Just now! Arky followed Master's smell!
I was waiting for you of course, my lady.
Shouldn't you be kissing my hand?
...After I drag my miserable friend here too.
Hey, Violet. About those apples of yours...
Would you like another?
No. It didn't do anything.
I told you there's nothing special about them.
...This whole time did you think my incredible talent and physical fitness was the result not of years of rigorous training, but...apples?
Huh? You didn't feel any effect? I'm pretty sure it made my body feel lighter and enhanced my reflexes.
...
Let us start again.
Beyond these momentary doubts, toward an eternal end.
It is time to bring about the death that has already been set in stone.
So many of our attacks are starting to get through this time!
It's completely different from earlier!
Do you truly believe so?
Understandable. Creatures with such short life-spans often react excessively to short-term changes.
Even if they last only an instant.
Dammit! He's regenerating again!
Oh...
Kyuu! This is unfair!
It is no use.
I am protected from holy beings.
Only the primordial gods may harm me, Ras.
These Human friends of yours are too weak to inflict any damage to my true self. You have no chance.
Are you sure? This right here looks like a chance to me.
Ras...
What is it? Do you have a plan?
Why is he suddenly running?
Everyone, cover me! We need to deal a decisive blow before he fully regenerates!
Embrace your fate.
No matter what you do, you cannot change it.
How can you be so sure?
...Ras, when did you become Human? Have you given up on holiness?
I set aside all those concerns that bored you so much.
I am no longer holy, so your protection does not matter.
But...
This is a contradiction!
No Human may possess the power of a god!
You say you have lived for eternity, has this never happened to you before?
To think this inferior creature was preparing such a trick...
This will not be the end. Even without Straze's body, I have other vessels.
I will become the Incarnation of Destruction and bring ruin to your world.
I'm not sure what you're talking about, but Diche and Ilryos told me to tell you this...
This is retribution for all you've done, and for Orbis's life.
R-Ras!
Master was sucked in...
It all happened in an instant.
It hasn't closed completely... There's still some kind of small vortex...
What happened to him...? He has to come back... Please...
Did you sense something?
No... It's gone... The power Roana gave me is gone.
Then that means... Roana, Straze... They've vanished completely.
Did we get rid of Fastus?
But, Ras...
Meru! Look! Up there!
The vortex is coming to a stop... There's something...
There's light coming out of it!
It's Ras!
Kyuu!? But he looks different from before...
Sometime after peace returned to Cidonia...
Tirel Castle
For taking command of the Ritanian Allied Forces in order to bring peace to Cidonia and protect the Sacred Kingdom of Ezera from an otherworldy threat...
I bestow this medal upon you, Sir Charles Sharon...
And all brave soldiers who fought alongside you.
All is thanks to you, my king.
For allying with the forces of Taranor and Reingar, and for placing Your Majesty's trust in me.
Yet I was not the one risking my life on the battlefield. I was so worried you might get hurt.
There's no reason to worry about an old knight like me. I would never dream of getting hurt without Your Majesty's express permission.
But...I see Ras was not able to attend today.
As I understand it, an invitation was sent, but he replied only with some words of congratulations and saying he was in dire need of a break.
I suppose using all that power must be a strain on his body. He disappeared for a while after defeating the Archdemon, as well.
He seemed to be in good health, according to the messenger who delivered the invitation. Still...
Perland
Today's the day you said you were going to go back to Rekos...isn't it?
That's right. Apparently a lot of evacuees have returned already.
Rekos is still very weak... And things will be difficult for a while as work starts on restoring the planet...
I bet. I'm sure they'll need a lot of help spiritually as well.
Right. The Spirits have been passing on a lot of messages asking me to go back.
And there's the promise I made to the other shamans...
Does that upset you?
H-Huh?
Would you prefer it if I stayed?
Of...Of course. But I have no right to ask that of you.
Returning Rekos to its former glory is your calling.
You're not wrong... I can't delay much longer.
Just... Just make sure you come visit often...
Of course... Often...
Heh...
I'll come as often as I can.
Good...
Well then, if this is goodbye... I guess we ought to do it your way.
Here you are.
Dear Luluca, loveliest of shamans, in honor of your beauty, may I kiss your h...
Here we go!
Where do you think? We're on our way to Rekos!
...! You didn't even ask! This is a kidnapping!
*giggling* Pavel told me everything.
Incredible.
Didn't you say you'd be willing to go to the ends of the universe for me?
That's...not strictly incorrect, but...
There's nothing to be scared about, Rekos is a wonderful place to live!
And don't worry, I'll send you home to Orbis whenever you feel like it. I'll be coming too, of course.
On a distant world, in a different dimension from that inhabited by Orbis and Rekos...
Nng... Where...
Where am I...?
I've never seen this place before.
Luluca must have won. I knew she could do it.
And if I was correct, somewhere nearby should be...
Aha! There you are!
...
Hello, my name's Roana, how about yours?
I...don't know.
You don't know your own name?
No...
What were you doing until I started talking to you?
I don't know that either. I just opened my eyes and I was here.
And how did you get here?
I don't remember...
It's okay, there's no need to be sad. It isn't important.
Really?
Really. Are you hungry? It looks like there's a village over there, I'm sure they'll have something we can eat.
I'm...scared...
You'll be safe as long as you hold my hand.
Okay...
Shall I tell you a little secret? I have a special power that lets me know everything about somebody just by looking at them, and I don't see even an inkling of anxiety or darkness in you. It's all gone!
Everything will be okay now.
I'll always be by your side, making sure you're never lonely and choose only the right paths in life.
Okay!
CHAPTER CLEAR Slayer END
This is not over yet.
The more uncertain a plan, the more necessary it is to have alternatives.
I created the Incarnation of Destruction in preparation for the event that Straze may betray me.
I was able to determine the location of the Sanctuary thanks to the tortured minds of those fools.
I had to expend the majority of my strength in order to cheat death and escape, but I will be able to restore myself if I can reach the Sanctuary and obtain what I've sought after this entire time.
Incarnation of Destruction.
Become my new vessel.
Eh?
I could swear something in my bag just moved.
Let's see here...
Was it that rock I found in the ruins?
Huh... The light inside looks like it might have changed a little. Did something happen to it?
What if I shake it a little...?
...!
Stop! Stop that!
Stoooooooooop!
EPISODE 2 Godkiller END
And the Adventure continues...
11. I, Machinery
233 linesSometime during the Reingar Full Moon Festival
Phew, I think I've collected almost all the Selenite around the area from Tuna's data.
*rustling*
Oh, Kikirat, are you done too? Let's see how much you got...
Grrrrrrrrr...!
โฆ
...Kikirat? Did you just protect me?
Kiiiiii...
How dare you break my adorable Kikirat.
This is unforgivable! I'll make you regret this!
Ta-da! Kikirat came back to life, good as new!
...
It looks...a lot different than before.
Oh, that's because some of its parts are no longer being produced, so I just decided to combine some things...
But its interior components haven't changed much.
There we go, rebooting complete. Upgrade succesful!
Umm...
Ah! That's it, I almost forgot! You were going to remind me I need to tighten its security measures, weren't you?
In order to avoid incidents caused by Machinery, they all need to have these supplementary measures applied to them.
No exceptions. Least of all for Kikirat.
I told you before, that thing on its hand isn't a machine gun, it's for shooting fireworks.
Yes, but only as long as fireworks are loaded in there instead of bullets.
...
Are these what I need to add?
We call them the Three Laws of Machinery. They're based on the rules you yourself made before.
Just be a little more patient, Kikirat. I need to enter these in first, then you'll be able to move again.
...
1. Machinery must protect the safety of the Human designated as its manager.
...
2. Machinery must obey the orders given to it by its manager except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
...
3. Machinery must protect its own safety as long as doing so does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.
...
HIDDEN STORY I, Machinery
Soon after Incomplete Fastus's advent and the opening of the Distorted Dimension...
...
Huh, seems like it's just connecting to auxiliary power.
You can't just stop moving like that, Kikirat, you had me worried.
Beats me. They were in the middle of fighting when some big black vortex in the sky appeared.
I guess we got caught up in it. Before I knew it, I was waking up and you and I were the only ones here in this strange place.
FUN FACT... FLAT SODA IS EXCELLENT...
You're right, we've got to find our way out of here. Why did you suggest that direction, though? Did you see something?
FLAT SODA IS EXCELLENT FOR REMOVING OLD STAINS... *whirring*
Just a hunch, huh?
Hmm...
Chamber of the Creator
Guess it shouldn't be a surprise that such a weird place is full of all these weird creatures too.
...
Kikirat, you've been moving strangely for a while now...
Are you damaged?
I'm imagining things? Don't be like that.
Come over here, I'll run some diagnostics.
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING...
Are you sure you're completely fine? You don't look fine.
...
Hmm... You're acting suspiciously.
Why are you trying to sneak away like that?
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING HUMANS!
Come over here! That's an order!
Ha, well I'll be the judge of that.
Hmm, these leg joints...
...
The damage is quite extensive. And you kept fighting in this state?
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING HUMANS...
Be that as it may, you should have at least told me.
Who knows how much longer these joints can hold out for. We'll need to replace them as soon as we get back.
There should still be a few of the parts we brought from Reingar left over.
...
Distorted Dimension, Chamber of the Creation
You want to know who built you? Why all of a sudden...?
That's right, Yuna was the one who first built you and kept developing you into the Kikirat you are now.
She insisted I only use you for cleaning even though we're in the middle of a war. I don't think she'll be pleased to see how that turned out.
YOU CAN USE BEER TO CLEAN OIL STAINS OFF OF GAS STOVES AND WALLS. THE SUGAR WITHIN THE BEER HAS DEGREASING PROPERTIES.
What was that? Was Yuna built too?
Well... Umm...
You see, that's not an easy question to answer.
...
For starters, I'm not sure Humans are "built," exactly.
You want to know who built her?
That's hard to say, I don't really know anything about her parents. She's never talked about them, and I've never felt the need to ask.
Anyway, why are you suddenly asking these kinds of questions?
You're interested in who created Humans?
Hmm, that the hardest one you've asked so far. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure anyone really knows.
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT...
Yeah, sure, I thought about it sometimes when I was younger, but not so much nowadays...
I suppose I just never thought it was particularly important.
Who cares who made who, that's all in the past, you know? What matters is the future, and how you choose to live it.
That's what I think, at least.
...
Kikirat, were you supposed to make that kind of noise?
*whirring*
Did you end up getting hit on the damaged part?
Let's move slower, we don't want to risk the entire leg becoming useless.
Try not to worry too much, but I don't think time passes the same speed in here as it does outside.
We've been in here for quite a while now, but I'm not even hungry.
*whirring* FLAT SODA IS EXCELLENT...
You think that's too unscientific?
I was just kidding. Stop taking everything so seriously.
...
Was that a joke?
Hmph, you dumb hunk of metal...
FLAT SODA IS EXCELLENT...
I heard you the first time! Stop saying it!
Listen here, Kikirat! I'd rather die than go on without you.
Not because you clean well, but because we're comrades-in-arms!
No man gets left behind. Got that?
*whirring*
So don't even think about saying that ever again.
...
Distorted Dimension, Trial of Friendship
Same here. I think that strange light might lead us somewhere else.
Maybe it's even the way back to the real world...
But...that...?
*whirring*...!
Good point. It really doesn't seem friendly.
FLAT SODA IS EXCELLENT FOR REMOVING OLD STAINS?
If you ask me, I think it's only trying to appear as something we'd find familiar. Its true nature must have something to do with this strange place we're in.
We need to break through these guys and get to that light. Get ready, Kikirat! Be extra careful about that leg of yours!
Where do you want me to go?
You're crazy.
I'll be the one to decide whether or not I should leave you here. Stop wasting your battery on such stupid crap and keep fighting!
That's an order!
...
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING...
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING HUMANS!
Huh?
Why isn't it listening...?
1. Machinery must protect the safety of the Human designated as its manager.
2. Machinery must obey the orders given to it by its manager except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
Oh, because of the Three Laws of Machinery? Kikirat is ignoring me in order to protect me according to the First Law.
Now I know why you're being so stubborn. Come here, I'll get rid of those pesky Laws for you.
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT...
Don't worry, all I'm doing is helping you start thinking for yourself.
SYSTEM - SECURITY MEASURES - REMOVAL COMPLETE
Alright, now you should be able to fight a lot more effectively instead of worrying needlessly about me.
W-What are you doing?
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING HUMANS.
Put me down! What's wrong with you!?
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING HUMANS!
Are you... Are you taking me to...?
*whirring*
You're not thinking rationally! You have no hope of facing that by yourself!
Let me down, you stubborn bastard!
I can't leave you here!
Were the security measures not the problem? Why do you insist on sacrificing yourself for me?
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING HUMANS!
If it's not because of the Three Laws, then...
It's because this is what you truly want...!?
*whirring*
...
YOU CAN USE BEER TO CLEAN OIL STAINS OFF OF GAS STOVES AND WALLS.
THE SUGAR WITHIN THE BEER HAS DEGREASING PROPERTIES!
*whirring*
*whirring*
...?
...
...
...
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING HUMANS.
SYSTEM - AUXILIARY POWER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED
...
SYSTEM - SHUTTING DOWN IN 5 SECONDS
*whirring*
SYSTEM - SHUTTING DOWN IN 4 SECONDS
...my adorable Kikirat.
SYSTEM - SHUTTING DOWN IN 3 SECONDS
Who cares who made who, that's all in the past, you know? What matters is the future, and how you choose to live it.
*whirring slows*
SYSTEM - SHUTTING DOWN IN 2 SECONDS
SYSTEM - SHUTTING DOWN IN 1 SECOND
HIDDEN STORY I, Machinery END
Who gave you permission to shut down!?
You can't get rid of me that easily, Kikirat. Even if you shut yourself down, I can just as easily turn you back on.
Your leg is a complete mess... You won't be able to walk like this.
No worries, I'll just have to drag you.
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING HUMANS!?
I told you, Kikirat. You're more than a cleaning robot, you're my comrade, through life and death.
I'm with you until the end.
Just a little farther and we'll be out of here. Damn, you're heavy though.
CLEAN THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXTERMINATING...
Ha, good one. What do you mean you're crying, you don't have any tear ducts. You'll only rust yourself.
...EXTERMINATING HUMANS.
Right, I'll cry for you.
These tears flowing down my face right now are yours, not mine.
...
12. A Gamble Between Fate and Chaos
263 linesJust before Incomplete Fastus's advent, in the middle of the Comet Temple
What makes you say that?
That big, weird light in the sky... It's been ahead of us this entire time.
It was also ahead of us when we were going to those ruins, but Perland is on the other side of the continent. If we were going the right way, that light should be behind us...
...!
Don't you think it's weird?
I...also noticed the same thing.
Then why did you keep going this way?
Another revelation... Of course...
Of course! As my faith in Chaos grows stronger, so does my ability to sense what they want from us.
Hmm...!
I also feel like we have a new encounter ahead of us.
And not with another shameless con artist like Ains, but somebody...somebody earnest, and honorable, and noble.
Imperator! The sky!
Just before Incomplete Fastus's advent, somewhere in the Comet Temple
Look! His soldiers are swarming this way!
Dammit! I'll help Iseria up, you take Crozet.
That's right, that's when it happened! If it isn't here, there's nowhere else it could be.
Please... Please come back to Mama Cermia...
You're like a part of me.
Aha! Found it!
My beloved Border Coin, what were you doing hiding out here?
*chuckling* Luck is always on my side.
I should hurry back before Sir Charles notices I'm gone.
Huh? Why's it suddenly so dark?
Oh, Ahh!
HIDDEN STORY A Gamble between Fate and Chaos
Distorted Dimension, Road 777
So is this that fateful meeting you were talking about?
The earnest, honorable, noble one?
...I have no words.
Shut up!
You know you're wanted men, right? I'll let it slide for now due to...special circumstances, but watch yourselves!
No, you shut up! We are chosen by Chaos! What right does some agent of the Goddess have to...
Ha, you wanna fight, huh? I didn't think there was anyone left who was stupid enough to wanna take me on.
I don't think fighting will help any of us.
We should find a way out of here first...is what Chaos told me.
Ah! Well if Chaos says so...
Well, you're not wrong. I guess the big one has the bigger brain, too.
It wasn't the imperator's idea, it was Chaos!
Sure, whatever you say. Either way, I think I know why he's the one in charge and you're just the lackey.
What!?
Chaos said not to fight, remember.
A-Ah, right...
Distorted Dimension, Road 777
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I'm. So. Bored! How much longer does this place go on?
I'd kill just for a single game of cards.
Somehow this place looks like...order among chaos.
Within chaos lies all things, after all...
This may well be another trial from Chaos.
Within all trials lies...
There's some kind of strange, red haze over there... Could it be the eyes of Chaos?
Oi, little gangster of the Sword.
What did you call me!?
If you hate it so much, just ignore it.
I wish I could, but it's a little hard when you won't stop talking so loudly about it!
And you think we like all your constant muttering?
...Fine.
Sounds good to me.
Distorted Dimension, Zealot's Hell
Hey, big guy. You know any card games? Anything at all, even if it's just a simple one.
Even the most childish games can be fun if you bet enough on them. How about it, huh?
I have no interest in cards...
Imperator! Look over there!
They're like stars in the night sky... I have a feeling they have something to do with Chaos's revelation.
It's like they're talking to us...to you especially.
C-Chaos...?
Looks to me like that red star is in some kind of race with the little one next to it...?
How about we bet on the winner, huh? I'll take the small one, you take the red one.
Imperator! Do you hear the revelation? I think I hear something, but I'm not sure...
Since it's your first time, how about we start with 100 Gold? You have money on you, right?
Alright, fine. If races aren't your thing, how about a game of pairs?
There are four different patterns, so you have a 1 in 4 chance of guessing the right one. But if you guess wrong, you need to double the amount of money you're betting, and then in the next round...
Hmm...
I've got it! Those things that look like tiny stars are actually some kind of signal.
They each keep getting brighter, and then darker, and then brighter again...
Urgh, why do you keep interrupting! I almost had him!
He was just reaching into his pocket for some money. Now I need to start all over again!
It's already clear he's not very good at concentrating!
...!
How dare you! The imperator is busy listening to Chaos, that's why!
If you're so desperate to gamble, go over there and do it by yourself!
Stop cheating. We agreed to be quiet, but you two won't stop whispering between yourselves.
All I said was a single word, then you got overexcited.
Alright, alright, fine!
How about we do it like this... Since we all like talking so much, how about we make a bet, and only the winner is allowed to talk.
Fair and square!
A bet...?
You're just trying to trick us into gambling like you wanted to!
Do you think we're stupid enough to fall for such a cheap trick?
Do you...?
...No. But we can't just do what she wants!
She's planning something! She's no better than Ains!
Ah, whatever, think what you like. Let's just keep talking as much as we want until we're out of here.
Hmph, you think that will scare me?
Imperator, I can't help but feel like...I'm walking eternally through the void.
If you ask me, Chaos...
Look! One of these strings is longer than the others. You need to choose which one, and...if you don't say anything, I'll just choose for you.
Maybe this place we're in is chaos itself. Perhaps Chaos's revelation is waiting for us at the end of this long road.
I'll even lend you the money to bet with. Again. You owe me...50,000 Gold so far.
There's a fog, maybe Chaos is within it...
I'll foot the bill for now, so don't you worry. Just choose between red or black...
Huh?!
...! Really!?
Chaos decrees we must accept the proposal made by this scoun, umm, knight of the Order of the Sword.
C-Chaos said that...?
Aha! I knew this Chaos you keep talking about couldn't be all bad!
Explain this bet of yours.
Alright, so I'll roll this six-sided die...
Wait! She's planning to cheat us! Look, there's another die in her pocket!
Oh, this thing?
Yes, that!
This is a three-sided die. I only use it on special occasions.
I know you're still planning to cheat with it. No strange tricks. Roll both dice together.
Fine, if you insist. It won't make much difference anyway.
Alright, I'm about to roll them. What you have to do is choose whether the amount they add up to is odd or even...
This is another trick! Enough with your "odd" or "even," I want to choose the exact number!
Uhh... You sure about that?
Yes. The number of both dice added together.
*sighing* I was trying to give you a 50/50 chance, if we do it your way, your odds are far worse.
Hmph, you just wanted it to be easier for you to manipulate the die when I guess right.
What kind of crook do you take me for?
Anyway, the way you want to play it, it will be even easier for me to cheat.
We'll guess the exact number. That way, I can play too.
You're joining in?
Everyone...
Are you trying to tell us to shut up?
Umm...
Again, you guys are at the biggest disadvantage. As dealer, if you lose, that means I win.
Yes, yes, we know that. If I win, you need to help us find Chaos's revelation.
And if I win, you guys have to join in any game I suggest from now on. Are we all in agreement?
Roll the dice.
Hurry!
Alright, let's start with the big guy. Give me your number!
One.
You're out!
W-What? How? You haven't even rolled the dice!
It's impossible for two dice to only add up to one. You're out!
...!
Next!
Uhh... Umm...
I choose... I choose...
I've never done anything like this before, I don't know!
Aha, that's it! There was the prophecy...!
It might be nothing, but I had a dream a while ago...
In the dream, it was before Chaos...when we were still the Church of Ilryos. But the weird thing is that's not what people were calling us...
Instead, they were calling us the Eighth Sun Sect.
Eighth...Sun?
I thought it was just a stupid little dream, but now I see this, with all these numbers... Six. Seven. Eight comes next...
Do you think Chaos might be telling us something? Like, something special about the number nine?
There's no question about it, it was a revelation from Chaos!
A dream bestowed upon me for this exact moment!
Nine! I choose nine!
...Are you sure? You seem very confident about it. Alright then, nine it is.
You're aware that number has the lowest probability of coming up though, right?
Well, except for the number one.
I won't change my decision. I don't need probability on my side when I have faith!
W-Well...?
The six-sided die landed on...six. And the three-sided die landed on...
Three! It's three! That makes nine! I told you, it was a revelation from Chaos!
You've got to be kidding me...
Distorted Dimension, Age of the Gambler
Hey, Inquisitor!
How many more times do I need to repeat myself? No chatting. Focus on finding Chaos's revelation!
This isn't chatting, it's a business proposal.
From what I can tell, you have certain...talents. You have good instincts and perseverance.
I suppose so...
What are you trying to say? Spit it out already.
We're not going to be stuck in here forever, right? We're bound to get out eventually.
Well, when we do... They're holding a championship race at the sandcat stadium in Savara to commemorate the opening of trade with Perland...
...!
Huh?
Before each race, I'll give you a list of possible winners, and you pick the one that feels right.
We'll practice with a Testudo race or two before then, of course. We need to earn the money to get us to Savara, after all.
Hmm... Chaos has decreed...
Ha! Cut the crap!
You just want to lead us somewhere enclosed so you and your Order of the Sword friends can arrest us!
...!
I know the kinds of dirty tricks you people pull!
C-Chaos has decreed...this is a trap!
Hmph, fine then! If you don't want to do it, you don't have to! No need for such stupid excuses!
For a guy who looks so slow-witted, his brain can sure work surprisingly fast. Dammit...
Can't you at least try a little harder? We'll never find Chaos's revelation at this rate.
What exactly am I even looking for? Everything looks the same.
Chaos does not allow their intentions to be known easily.
This "Chaos" only seems to talk directly to the big guy. Or do they just not care to tell you specifically?
...All is as Chaos wills it.
Is that so? In that case... Oh! I think I'm receiving some kind of revelation of my own!
A revelation!? Quick! Tell us!
Chaos decrees...you must go to the Testudo races...
You little, You've been mocking us from the start!
Stop! Look, over there.
Oh... How long has that bright light been there...?
Mmm...
Which one should we take, Imperator?
Hmm... Chaos decrees...
Isn't it obvious? At times like this, you ought to flip a coin.
My Border Coin will show us the way!
Didn't you promise to stop talking about gambling after you lost the bet?
That was only until we found the way out, which it looks like we have!
Stop fighting... Something is guarding them.
See, that's even more proof they must be exits.
Good, the perfect target to unleash my rage on!
Distorted Dimension, in front of Two Cracks of Light
Alright, so which one are you going through?
I was going to flip my coin and pick left for heads and right for tails.
You two can choose through rock, paper, scissors or something.
Chaos has spoken...
The gambler's fate walks upon the path of chaos.
W-What does that mean, exactly?
It means you should follow me, obviously.
...Do we have to?
Are you having doubts again?
N-No! None at all!
You won't regret it. This coin is never wrong.
Anyway, this isn't gambling. This is a sacred moment where we put all money aside and compete against fate, 50/50.
Alright, let's do this!
Heads!
HIDDEN STORY A Gamble between Fate and Chaos END
13. Iron Dolls
975 linesDark Iron Range, Shackle Gorge
Aha! Take a look at that big black rock up there. This must be Shackle Gorge.
According to the intelligence we have collected, it seems likely.
Because your "intelligence" has been so helpful...
What's that supposed to mean?
You were so confident in it back in Ritania too, and then that doll ended up being completely innocent!
...I'm not the one who started attacking her.
I was just trying to beat her to the punch. That's Nana Style!
Quit it, kids. Don't you get tired of fighting each other all the time? We didn't come so far from home for this.
You do remember what our mission is, don't you?
To track down and detain Chloe, the first doll.
Well done, Brinus! So, Kanna, tell me, what brings us here to Cidonia?
Completing a job to find information on Chloe.
That's right, but our targets weren't where they were supposed to be.
So we now find ourselves in the Dark Iron Range, having wasted plenty of time already.
And yet you two wish to waste even more by fighting with each other?
...I apologize.
I'm sorry...
Everyone needs to keep calm. There should be a fork in the road up ahead, right, Brinus?
I'm certain.
Fantastic. Let's get what we need and hurry home. I'm getting sick of all this foreign travel.
HIDDEN STORY Iron Dolls
The World's End Pub
Dolls from Politia? I don't get many customers like you, that's for sure.
Garo Rils. Bartender of the World's End and Ritania's foremost information broker.
I see my reputation precedes me. But I'm afraid I'm little more than a collector of gossip.
As long as you have the information we need, I couldn't care less.
Brinus. The video.
Yes, Commander.
We're looking for a doll known as Chloe. Would you happen to know her whereabouts?
I am aware of her... But I'm not sure I remember much.
What are you trying to say?
My memory isn't so good these days. I'll need something to help me jog it.
Shiny things work best. Like gold, for instance.
Brinus, how much do we have?
None. We used it all paying for the damages Kanna incurred attacking that doll in Reingar.
If you don't have gold, I'm happy to accept information about Politia instead.
Hmm, I'm not sure that's a great idea either...
There is another way...
So you'll use violence to make me speak? That doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
Don't, Brinus.
I'm sorry, but we can't give you any information on Politia. Is there no other way?
Well...it's a hassle, but there is one.
Go on...?
I have a job I'd like you to do for me. Don't worry, it's very simple.
Shackle Gorge, Crossroad
We finally reached the crossroads! Alright then, let's split up.
Split up?
It's the most efficient use of our time.
Two of us head for Witchaven and their citylord, and the other looks for the army doctor in the Aakhen Exile Colony.
Take me with you!
I will assist you.
Hmph, you're too boring and gloomy. Commander Laika would much rather go with someone adorable like me!
I am far more useful than a tiny little troublemaker who costs us all our gold.
You take that back! Right now!
They'll end up killing each other if I leave them alone together.
But I certainly can't trust Kanna on her own. All that leaves is...
There are hostiles ahead.
Chrrrrrrrrrrrk...
Aha, perfect timing!
I have an idea. Let's play a little game to decide who will go with me.
The winner is whoever can take out the most monsters. Use whichever methods you'd like.
Are you fine going alone, Brinus?
I know what you're thinking.
But I have no intention of yielding.
Does it really matter that much? They're making me nervous...
Whatever, it's obvious who's going to win anyway.
Bri is winning...?
Only an amateur hesitates in front of the enemy.
Kweeeeehk!
Hey, that one was mine!
...Hmph.
At this rate, I'll... Oh! I know!
Victory will be mine!
KABOOM!
All-in-one! I win!
You used your bombs without permission.
So what? It was the best way for me to win.
You stubborn!
I don't remember telling you to fight each other.
Kanna cheated.
I said you may use whichever methods you'd like.
That's right! Nana didn't do anything wrong.
Kanna wins.
Woohoo! Take that, Brinus! I told you, I'm Commander Laika's favorite!
B-But...!
Okay, Kanna, we'll be heading west to Witchaven.
Yeeees, ma'am! I'll get ready to leave!
You planned to take her with you from the start, didn't you?
I'm sorry, but it's the only option. You two would be at each other's throats the second I'm out of sight...
And you know as well as I do that she can't be left alone.
...
Up until now, you've done everything I've asked of you without any mistakes.
I did not wish to disappoint you.
I know, and that's why I see you less as a subordinate of mine...
And more as a comrade I can depend on.
Commander...
I know this won't be easy on your own, but...
Don't worry. I can do it.
Nana is ready for takeoff, Commander!
Well, I guess we'll be on our way. I know you won't let me down.
Remember, Brinus, I trust you more than anyone.
I was behaving childishly. No better than Kanna.
I will carry out my duty flawlessly.
And prove that I deserve to be at the commander's side.
You're glad you get to go with me too, right, Commander?
Of course! Who wouldn't want to spend time with somebody as cute and cheerful as you?
This is the best choice for everybody, right?
*sighing* It's so stressful working with two people who can't stand each other.
I don't get paid enough for this.
Dark Iron Range, Seed Sprout Forest
Kanna, what are we on our way to do?
We're going to learn about the ancient being that was summoned at Witchaven!
Yes, and to do that, you need to find the citylord, Vivian.
I know that!
Good. And when you do find her?
Hmm... Fire bombs at her until she tells us what we want to hear?
Wrong!
Then what?
You call me over the radio. And absolutely no preemptive strikes!
No preemptive strikes... Okay, Commander!
If the radio isn't working, fire a signal flare instead. A nice big one I can see even from far away.
Got it!
Alright then. You search these coordinates, and we'll meet back here at the appointed time. Okay?
*rumbling*
She flew all the way over there already? It's good that she's so enthusiastic, but...
Am I going to regret this?
Hey, Woodrow. What's that black thing shooting through the air?
Hmm, hard to say with the fog and how high it's flying. Some kind of...winged creature?
Wings!? Could it be a Wyvern!?
I don't know, it looks more like a person...
AERIAL THREAT DETECTED. PREPARING FIRE.
The Arkis was on Intercept Mode? Stop, we don't know what it is ye...
FIRING.
BOOM!
Direct hit. It's falling... But I think it was a...
It's clearly a person!
*crashing*
Nng... Where did that come from...?
The wings should be easy to fix, but my communication systems are completely ruined.
Ugh! Who shot me!?
Whatever it was, it likely can't move after being hit like that. Search the immediate area!
Commander said no preemptive strikes, but she said nothing about counterattacks.
I'll teach you to shoot Nana out of the sky!
Nothing over here.
Strange, we saw it land in this area...
Are you the ones who shot Nana?
Ah! Who are you!? What are you talking about?
Don't try and deny it! You were just talking about me being hit and crashing around here!
Did the Arkis shoot that girl...?
Though judging by all that machinery on her, she's no normal girl.
It was a misunderstanding. We didn't mean to shoot you down.
So you're admitting you did it? Well, I hope you're ready for a fight.
All kinds of systems are broken thanks to you, so I don't even know if I'll have full control over the strength of my attacks.
*CRASH*
That's the direction Kanna went in...?
Kanna, answer me! Kanna!
Her communication systems are down...
Has she already gotten into trouble?
The creatures we summoned barely left a scratch on her...
Urgh, her appearance made us careless.
Hmph, they keep on coming. The commander will tell me off if I use this, but...
Who cares? She isn't here!
O-Oh no!
Don't just stand there, get barriers up!
Are you all okay?
Miss Vivian? I thought you were on the opposite side of the forest...
I was, and I still heard the commotion going on over here. Fortunately, one of my teleporters was nearby.
Would anyone care to explain what is going on?
Uh, well, it's kind of our fault. It will take a while to explain the whole thing...
You don't look like any normal girl. Why were you attacking us?
I was scouting when they just shot me out of the sky!
Is that true, Woodrow?
Yes. Yes it is.
Judging by this mess, I guess you forgot what I told you, Kanna?
Commander! It's not my fault... I was scouting, and they attacked me!
Look, they broke my wings and communication systems...
She suddenly came down from the sky with a body made of machinery...
There's no such technology in Cidonia. They must be from another continent entirely...
I see, so you were counterattacking.
She's a commander? Isn't she a little young?
Woodrow! Isn't Vivian always telling us not to judge people based on their appearance?
Who's responsible for doing this to my adorable little Kanna!?
It would appear we are at fault here.
As citylord of Witchaven, I will take full responsibility.
Oh! Are you Vivian? Good job, Kanna! You found her in no time.
Heh... I guess I did...
"Found" me?
Seed Sprout Forest, Teleporter
I apologize for everything.
Don't worry, it was all a misunderstanding. I'm more concerned about whether you can provide the information I asked for.
About the ancient being that was summoned here?
Yes. It's vital you tell us.
Why, exactly?
Sorry, but I don't really know. We were hired to find out by somebody else.
Then I'm afraid I can't tell you anything.
...From the look on your face, it's more like you don't want to, isn't it?
That's right. Without knowing who I'm sharing this information with, I have no way of knowing whether it will turn into a threat to Witchaven.
Oh, there's no need to worry about that. He's just nosy...
I'm sorry, but if there's nothing more for us to discuss...
Ah, wait! Huh, she vanished...?
Faceless Fields, Sorcerer's Camp
As expected, it appeared near the Mourning Mountains again.
The closer we get to them, the stronger the mana becomes as well.
Have you found a way of climbing them yet?
No. Even if the cliffs weren't so sheer, there are Harpy and Gryphon nests all over them.
Then the only answer is teleportation magic.
But how will we get a teleporter up there?
Short of flying, it's hard to say.
Hey, don't you have any manners!? You can't just vanish in the middle of a conversation!
Anyway, it sounds to me like you're in need of some help.
...How did you find me here? And what "help" could we possibly need?
You need somebody who can fly.
...! That's right, you!
Seems we both have something the other needs.
Draw a magic circle on the ground, infuse a little mana, and...! Ta-da!
Karbun! Karbun!
You can summon them even from far away.
Those two are getting along surprisingly well.
She's always wished she had a little sister. Woodrow seems a little scared of her though.
Hmm, if she wants a younger sister, wouldn't I be of more interest to her? And yet she's barely looked my way.
You're more mature than you look.
I came to understand that mental maturity is more important than outward appearance. Even though I look like this, I'm programmed to be in my mid-to-late twenties.
So, what exactly do you need us to do once we're up there?
I need you to install this teleporter somewhere safe.
Oh, it looks just like that thing you vanished through before. So that's what it was...
It's specially-made to transport all the sorcerers you see here.
That's quite a large-scale operation. What's so important about getting up those mountains?
I have reason to believe something up there is behind all the recent appearances of Wyverns and Dragona.
Wyverns and Dragona? Here?
For a while, it was only the occasional sighting, but recently they've been turning up far more often.
They keep attacking the city with other flying creatures.
Strange... There aren't supposed to be any in Cidonia, are there?
No, not since ancient times.
And yet here they are. In groups, too.
It doesn't appear to be a natural phenomenon. I've felt that kind of mana before.
You were able to fight that many all by yourself? Wow, you must be even stronger than Reingar's Machinery!
Of course! Those hunks of junk aren't even fit to oil my joints!
Nana is the best of the best, even back in Politia!
You said Politia's in Eureka, right? What's it like there?
Do you really want to know?
Yes, please. A city of machines... I can't even imagine it.
Then I'll tell you a little about it. It's the most beautiful and technologically-developed city in all of Eureka!
And everywhere you look, there are dolls!
And they're not all battle dolls, like you?
Oh no, there are all sorts! For every kind of job you can think of.
Are there any Humans there?
It must be heaven for dolls.
Not at all, there are plenty of bad dolls too.
Especially that Chloe! She's the worst!
Forget Humans, she doesn't even listen to what City Manager Belian tells her.
Last I heard, she was telling everyone she's going to become a queen, and then she disappeared!
Dolls have kings and queens too?
No way! Politia will never be a monarchy!
Queen of where, then?
She wanted to kill King Schniel of Lefundos and take over his country instead. They're right next door to us.
But as far as anyone can tell, she's not even in Eureka anymore. So we've come to find her.
Wow, she sounds like even more of a troublemaker than you.
Exactly, she's, Wait, what's that supposed to mean!?
But if she's such a pain, why bother trying to find her?
Ah, well that's because she's the first ever...
It seems you've become fast friends with Wester.
You're happy to tell her not only all about Politia, but even the finer details of our mission.
I-It just came out...
Wester, Vivian was looking for you.
Oh, uh, okay.
Sorry, Commander...
It's not a bad thing to get along with the people you're working with, but that isn't an excuse for carelessness.
Even the most insignificant leak of information can come back to bite you later.
Mourning Mountains Lowland, Sorcerer's Camp
Nana is back from reconnaissance!
Anything to report?
The whole place is swarming with Harpies and Gryphons.
But because I'm a super hard worker, I was able to find a path to a safe spot without any enemies!
Did you not see any Wyverns?
Hmm, no, but I did hear them. It sounded like there's a lot of them.
Good work, Kanna. I don't see any reason to keep dragging this out. Let's go immediately.
Would you like me to explain how to install the teleporter again?
Don't worry, it's all saved in my head.
Alright. I'll leave it to you then.
I'll be back soon.
*rumbling*
Commander, wait for me!
*rumbling*
Miss Vivian, you don't look very happy. Are you worried about something?
Yes, ma'am.
The mana I feel from the Wyverns... It's very similar to when Ranok was summoned.
Although much fainter, of course.
...
I hope I'm just worrying over nothing.
Mourning Mountains, Safe Area
Commander, over here! This looks like a good place to install it, right?
Looks as good a place as any.
Then why are you hesitating?
Kanna... What do you think Wyverns are doing here?
I'm not sure. Most of them live in Eureka...
Exactly. This doesn't add up. There's something Vivian said too...
She said she'd felt that kind of mana before.
But isn't that strange? When would she have felt that kind of Dragon mana before?
Umm... I don't know.
Remember what I told you before. Wyverns are much weaker than Dragons, but their mana is similar.
Aha! Which means the ancient being we're here to learn about...
That's right. It must have been a Dragon. But there's no way one could have flown here all the way from Eureka.
Perhaps...it was a Dragon imprisoned within another dimension long, long ago.
You're amazing, Commander! I'd never have even considered that!
There must be a connection between it and the Wyverns. And now that we know this much...
We should try looking into it before the sorcerers do.
Who knows what we might find!
The teleporter can wait. For now, let's just have a little look around first.
Mourning Mountains, Mouth of a Suspicious Cave
*growling*
The noise is coming from that cave. Is something inside...?
All but a few of them ran away somewhere.
What are we going to do? Rush in and take 'em out with one hit?
I don't think that's a good idea. Let's stay put for now.
They've been acting strangely since earlier... Almost like they're watching us.
*growling*...
Didn't this species of Wyvern go extinct centuries ago...?
ROOOOAR!
Phew, we just managed to get away.
Commander, all the Wyverns who left earlier are coming back!
*growling*...
Are they trying to draw our attention so they can surround us?
I guess it's true that they're actually quite smart.
What do we do? There are Dragona everywhere.
Dammit, we never would have gotten caught like this if Brinus were here.
There's only one choice left...
Can I use my bombs!?
All that will do is attract even more of them. Listen up...
I'll draw their attention by running toward the cave and attacking.
And then you slip through them and activate this.
The teleporter?
The only way out of this is with Vivian's help.
My life depends on it. I can rely on you, can't I?
I won't let you down!
Alright. When I start attacking the spotted one, that's the signal.
Oh, and...don't tell Vivian how we ended up in this situation. Got it?
Of course. You've got nothing to worry about!
*growling*
Stay safe, Commander!
*growling*...
Hey, don't get distracted! Focus all of your attention on me.
You won't stop me from getting to that cave!
*roaring*
Stick it into the ground like this, press this button here, and then...
Bingo! It's drawing a magic circle!
And last but not least, time to put on my serious face.
...!
Oh good, you did it. It took longer than I expected. I was starting to worry.
But...why do you look so serious? And where's Laika?
We were ambushed by Harpies and Gryphons...
There were so many of them and...and Commander Laika was so desperate to protect me, she got damaged all over...
So with the last of her strength, she told me to escape and set up the teleporter...
And lured them towards this strange cave...
I see. We have to hurry. Show us where this cave is.
It isn't far from here. Please, Vivian... Please save my Commander...
It's our fault she's in danger. We'll do whatever it takes to save her.
...Didn't she say this area was completely safe?
True...but it wouldn't be the first time they suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
I know, but Harpies and Gryphons tend not to leave their own territory unless they really have to.
Woodrow, are you accusing sweet little Kanna of lying!? Why would she?
"Sweet little Kanna"...?
Are you still upset about earlier?
N-Not at all! How petty do you think I am!? I just think it's weird.
Even if she is lying about the details, does it make it any less urgent for us to save Laika?
...I guess not.
Then stop wasting time with your useless conspiracy theories. Everyone else has already left.
*sighing* Fine...
Roust Cave
They don't give up easily, do they? I barely got away.
Kanna, can you hear me? Are you okay?
*crackling*
Dammit, there must be interference.
*growling*
Oh? What was that sound...?
Krrrrrrrr...
There must be something in the direction the Dragona are coming from.
It's probably dangerous, but just a little peek can't hurt...
Wyverns and Dragona keep showing up.
They're desperate to stop us.
We must be getting close.
Maybe... Just stay focused and stick by me.
Can you still not reach Laika?
There are no problems with my communications systems, but all I can hear is crackling.
We've lost so much time already...
As amazing as Commander Laika is, even she can't hold back that many enemies for long.
If we don't get there soon...
*rustling*
Kanna... Did you just step on something?
This... This is one of Commander Laika's parts!
Good, that should help us find her a lot sooner.
How?
...!
Tracking magic. It's fairly simple. There are traces of Laika still lingering on it.
It should lead us straight to her.
Oh, light! It's pointing over there!
Good, it's not far.
Roust Cave, Old Research Laboratory
There are clear signs of someone having lived here. But whatever they were researching, they've long since abandoned it...
All that's left are dried up reagents and broken tools. And these old books.
They're almost all in some ancient alphabet. All I can read is...
"The Great One."
Hmm, I think I'm starting to figure out what's been going on around here.
I certainly wasn't expecting this.
Commander!
Kanna! I know you're happy to see me, but you don't need to squeeze so tight.
I'm glad to see you're safe.
And look where you've ended up. You couldn't have known what was here when you came in...
Heh... What a coincidence, right? The place I ran away to just happened to be their den.
Shouldn't you be thanking me?
Huh?
Oh, these books have Dragons on them! But what kind of writing is this...?
Some of it looks a little familiar. Like I've seen it before somewhere.
You wanted to know where the Wyverns and Dragona were coming from, didn't you?
Your answers are all in this cave.
Restraint Cave
Miss Vivian, we've deciphered most of the materials we collected earlier and made some quite amazing discoveries.
It seems the original owner was a sorcerer of the ancient Shandra Empire.
Is that him in the portrait on the desk?
It would appear so. He was trying to find a way to summon sealed Dragons. It was forbidden even back then.
Look, don't you think this looks like the handwriting in the forbidden books back in Witchaven?
The exact details are very different, but the main content is widely similar.
Spells for summoning named Dragons all share the same basic structure, that's why.
How do you know that?
Politia has accumulated a large number of documents over the course of its history, and the vast majority of them are saved right here in my head.
Let me guess, the ancient being summoned in Witchaven was Ranok, wasn't it? Or maybe Zoranox...?
...I suppose there's no reason to hide it.
Two elder sorcerers succeeded in summoning Ranok the Walker to Witchaven, but...
They were eaten. Ranok is one of the followers of the Great One.
There's no way he would ever allow a Human to tell him what to do.
The Great One?
The name comes up quite often in a lot of these books.
It's who that sorcerer was trying to summon. I dread to think what might have happened if they'd succeeded...
So you can guess what all these Wyverns and Dragona are doing here, can't you?
They succeeded in opening a gate to the Sealed Dimension where the Dragons are?
Sealed Dimension... Great One... You really do know a lot, Laika.
Oops, I got carried away and shared a little too much.
Well, I suppose it doesn't really matter. She'll learn all this from those books anyway.
The legend of the Great One is well-known back in Eureka. I'll tell it to you if you'd like.
*rumbling*
The flow of mana I felt when Ranok was summoned is getting stronger...
Maybe the gate to the Sealed Dimension is growing.
At this rate, even tougher Wyverns will start showing up. Or worse...
One of the named Dragons. That sounds like it will be a lot of work.
Let's get moving. I'll tell you more on the way.
In Eureka, there is a land known as Wintenberg, where Dragons and Humans have been alternating between war and peaceful coexistence for centuries.
In the nearby Dragon Valley, a legend has been passed down...
Of a being with power beyond comprehension.
In order to prove their superiority, or simply for their own amusement, this being would seek out only the strongest and defeat them.
Until eventually, there was nobody left for them to challenge.
But rather than be discouraged, this being sealed themself and their followers away in a crack between dimensions.
Of course, there were Dragons who opposed such a drastic decision. But in the face of such overwhelming power...
They had no choice but to submit...
And follow obediently.
But before leaving, the Great One left unsealing spells in exquisite, magical writing.
Calling upon anyone powerful enough, challenging them to wake them from their slumber.
So Ranok is one of the Dragons who rebelled against the Great One.
That's right. Until he was forced to submit.
And then some annoying little sorcerer woke him up early and started bossing him around.
I know I'd be angry.
Who knows, maybe it was an accident... But I'm leaning towards it being intentional.
Finally, some room to breathe! It's been too long since I was able to fl...
This isn't the time to play around. Look over there.
Wow, Dragona are pouring out of it...
The gate to the Sealed Dimension, and the cause of all this trouble.
All we have to do is destroy it and we'll be rid of these pests.
There's something faint standing next to it. It looks almost...Human?
Still...not enough...
...! It's the sorcerer from the portrait!
The mana flowing through here must have combined with the memory of his presence and took on his form.
What do we do? Can we attack it?
That might be our only way to close the gate.
I need more power to summon the Great One... I need to...
Aha, that's it...! I will use their mana!
Krraaaaargh!
He's talking about us, isn't he...?
He's coming this way!
Ugh, here we go again.
The gate is being maintained by the magic stones on either side of it. If we can destroy those, it will close.
Yes, Commander!
Your time has come!
You don't mean...?
I do! On my signal, give it everything you've got. Show our new friends here why they call you the Angel of Death!
Now!
Get ready for my grand finale!
No... My precious research...
It was all for nothing...
KABOOM!
Mission complete!
The gate is closing!
Keep going, everyone! Drive them back through the gate!
Krrrrrrr...!
So much for this Cidonia job being "simple." At least it's finally over.
Although, considering all the information we gained from it, maybe I shouldn't be complaining.
Mourning Mountains Lowland, Sorcerer's Camp
Judging by what we saw in there, his research had only just started to scratch the surface.
Really? The gate seemed pretty well made despite that.
Yes, he was extremely talented. He just lacked a power source.
Ah, so that's why he wanted your mana so desperately.
He'd completed the gate, but he wasn't able to make it work properly, so he just gave up and left.
Who knows, maybe he's somewhere else in Cidonia continuing his research in a new laboratory.
The gate must have picked up some of the mana that was released when Ranok was summoned.
You're right. Only a faint amount, though, which is why only Wyverns could get through.
Anyway, did you manage to get all the documents you needed?
Yes, thank you. They're all saved up here.
Thanks to your help, we were able to complete our mission successfully and learned some unexpected things along the way.
I should be the one thanking you.
If you two weren't here, we never would have been able to get on top of the mountain.
But what are the unexpected things you learned?
Hahahaha! There's no need for you to worry about that. Nothing important.
Anyway, I should get going. Where did Kanna run off to?
She's been talking over there with Wester for a while.
Oh yes, they're coming back now. But why does she look like she's about to cry?
Shackle Gorge, Crossroad
How much longer are you going to keep sulking, Kanna?
I... I really wanted to keep that Carbuncle...
Even though it kept trying to run away from you?
I don't understand... Why wouldn't it let me touch it?
She really loved that little thing, huh? I haven't seen her this downhearted in a long time.
It's going to be a while before she cheers up again. I should try and comfort her...
Don't be so down. You managed to gain something even more valuable.
...I did?
It's always the three of us, but this time it was just you and me.
Do you know what that means? You have something Brinus doesn't, a special memory with me.
...You're right! I never thought about it like that!
That seems to have done the job. Hmm, but just to make sure...
Oh, over there! Brinus is coming!
It looks like her solo mission really took a toll on her...
Shall we go fly up to meet her? Ah, but don't tell her anything about what happened with us.
Hehe, okay!
I feel sorry for Brinus, but it's nice to see Kanna's spirits up again.
I'm sure she got the information we needed, though.
Now we can go back to Ritania and focus on finding Chloe.
Dark Iron Range, Foundation Village
A large hill and a small brook to the east, and a small slum, recently built.
It fits perfectly with our intelligence.
And if I consider the time he left, and the route and time he should have taken to arrive here...
The target should currently be residing in this village.
And yet he's already come and gone. Is there another factor I was unaware of?
Nobody knows where he was heading either.
This is a problem. If I don't track him down soon, he'll only continue to move farther away.
*beeping*
The Risk Detection System just activated. Meaning...
Are there monsters in the village?
Chrrrrrrrrrrrk...
Even in a slum like this, there shouldn't be monsters running freely through the streets.
The situation is worse than I imagined.
Chrrrrrrkk!
You're trying to attack me? Foolish.
Fire! We must protect the villagers!
Kyeeek...!
Don't just stand there, escape!
Judging by your weaponry, you must be a soldier.
And judging by all your machinery, you're not from here.
A soldier would know far more information than a normal citizen. Perhaps she's worth cooperating with.
You must be from another continent. I don't know what brings you here, but you need to evacuate.
If the state of your soldiers is anything to go by, I think you could do with my help.
...A lot of them are still recovering from injuries.
I have a question I'd like to ask you, so I'll help you clean this up.
I've seen Soul Weavers treat people with magic before, but I've never seen it done mechanically...
The allied forces from Reingar had nothing like that. Surely they couldn't have developed it so soon after leaving...?
I have completed all necessary first aid. You can leave.
I've never seen first aid like this before... I can hardly even see the scar.
Do you require further medical assistance?
Oh, uh, no. Thank you.
There were more wounded than I expected. I've used up a lot of power.
That should be the last of them. Thank you, Brinus.
The more soldiers keep getting injured, the harder it becomes to do our job. This should help us greatly.
There is no need to thank me, I was only doing what was necessary.
So, you had a question for me?
I am looking for somebody. Ray Damus. He's an Aakhen Army doctor, is he not?
I saw him just a few hours ago. He said he was heading for Shell Village.
I have no information about this place. How do I get there?
Tell me why you're looking for him first.
He has information I require.
Hmm, is she hoping to exchange medical technology with him?
She's blunt, but she seems like a good person. I'm sure it can't hurt to tell her...
Alright, fine, I'll tell you.
Administrator! There are no injuries. We can leave immediately.
...Good to hear. Alright, let's continue looking.
There may only be a few of them, but that doesn't mean we should get complacent...
Outskirts of Shell Village, Temporary Clinic
I didn't expect there to be so many patients. I'm already running out of supplies.
The climate here is very different from that of the exile colony. There seem to be a lot of people suffering from endemic diseases.
Not to mention the people who got hurt clearing the land and building the village.
That's everyone, Ray!
Are you sure? Wasn't there still a dozen people waiting?
They all went home already. With big smiles on their faces.
While you were busy treating that nice lady with a big smile on your face, this lady here was treating the rest of your patients.
Isn't that right, Brinus?
You are Ray Damus.
That I am. And you are...?
Is Brinus really that interesting? More importantly, he hasn't forgotten our date, has he?
I administered multiple tests and then performed basic treatment. Except in very special cases, there should not be any side effects.
Healing with machines... Incredible...
Well, there's still some time. I'll just tidy up the medicine.
Are they STILL talking?
It's like he totally forgot I'm even here!
This kind of technology is simply unimaginable in Cidonia. Is this really considered "basic" in Politia?
He sure is full of questions, isn't he? And it's so obvious she's getting tired of answering them.
Do they really need to stand so close to have a conversation?
Of course, there are far more advanced techniques, but my functions as a doll are limited.
The sun will set any minute now. When is he going to remember!?
Ray... Have you perhaps...forgotten anything?
Nothing comes to mind, why? ...Ah! That's right! I forgot to organize the supplies for tomorrow.
Well, you can do that by yourself!
E-Elena! Why is she so angry all of a sudden...?
This man is a formidable opponent. With his unique oratory skills, he simply keeps asking questions until he gets the answers he wants.
Had she not cut me off, I likely would have recited the entire history of medicine in Politia for him.
But if I give him the information he wants, I will gain favor with him, making it easier to learn what I want.
If I start by sharing some minor details...
Doctor Ray! Oh, I'm so glad you're still here...
Amanda? What are you doing all the way out here?
I heard there was a unique crop in this area, so a few days ago I... That's not important right now!
The village elder has collapsed. If you don't get there soon...
Where do you need me?
Follow me, I'll take you to him.
Taking into account the traveling speed of a normal Human, and the time it will take to treat the patient...
By the time he gets back, it will already be night.
I'm sorry, Brinus, this is urgent. We can continue this conversation later if you don't mind...
No. Hold onto me, and I will take you to him.
FWOOOOONG!
Outskirts of Shell Village, Elder's House
*panting* Are... Are you already done? Did I bring this basket of supplies for nothing?
Thanks to Brinus, we were able to save his life.
Your magic was of great help.
These two are amazing!
It was nothing. I only took basic medical steps.
Yes, but even such simple methods are a luxury for the people living here.
Why?
The people here are the very poorest, pushed out from even the exile colony.
The Aakhen government has been paying more attention to the exile colony recently, but extending medical coverage this far out is still not realistic.
...I see. It's not much different from the slums of Politia.
Like this place, it's full of the poor and cyborgs who couldn't register as citizens.
Until the day they die, they live in misery.
If the commander hadn't saved me, I too...
Do you ever volunteer to provide medical help there as well?
Yes, sometimes... When I have spare time...
It seems we have a lot in common.
...
Huh? Where is Elena going?
Guardian Star... Please punish Ray for ignoring me by giving him an upset stoma...
What are you doing behind there, Elena?
N-Nothing! Definitely not praying, that's for sure!
...Eh?
What do you want? Was Ray looking for me?
Oh, no. You didn't look too good, so I followed you.
You're so thoughtful, Amanda. Unlike a certain someone.
You're upset because of Ray, aren't you?
*giggling* No, I'm just smart.
...I see. Hmm. You won't tell him, will you?
Of course not. I understand. You're annoyed because she took your place.
It's like Mister Ains used to say. When somebody takes your place, rage is the only answer!
She completely misunderstood!
Well, I suppose it's only natural... I don't really know anything about medicine...
Don't let that get you down! Just do what only Elena can do!
...And what's that? Reading Ray's horoscope?
Is there nothing he's needed recently?
He never really talks about things like that... Oh, but there was something!
What?
He didn't have enough ingredients for a new medicine, but it was difficult to acquire more.
What kind of ingredients?
Some kind of grass. Prosperia or something. But it doesn't grow around here...
Oh, I can help with that!
I never did ask why you were looking for me...?
You have information I require.
Ask away. You've already helped me so much and told me all about Politia.
If I can, I'll tell you.
Then I will get straight to the point. There has recently been a strange phenomenon in southern Cidonia.
Would you happen to know anything about it?
I think Elena could probably tell you more about that than I can.
It had a lot to do with the prophecies in the Shandra Ruins.
Hmm, but she and Amanda appear to have run off somewhere.
They left several minutes ago.
I'm sure they're just getting some fresh air nearby. I'll call for them.
They are not here. I detect no biometric signatures.
...Really? Where could they have gone?
Mistrust Woods
The land around here is full of ore. It's interfering with my instruments. I cannot continue tracking them.
What are they doing in these woods? There are lots of dangerous monsters at this time of year.
Look, footprints. But more than just two pairs...
But their movements are similar.
Are they heading for the same place?
You don't think they were kidnapped, do you? That's just the kind of luck Elena would have.
I lack enough information to reach a conclusion. But I think we should follow the footprints first.
Is there really Prosperia around here?
Yeah, I saw it when I came in here with the villagers.
These woods don't feel very safe. Should we just go back?
Don't worry. The Mistrust Woods are dangerous, but this path is safe.
I came here alone yesterday, and I'm fine!
Alright. It's a little scary, but I'll put up with it.
I need to get the Prosperia for Ray to prove to him I can be useful too.
*rustling*
Is there something in those bushes?
Chrrrrk...
Kyaa! What's a Tortus doing so far from their habitat?
It's covered in wounds. It must have been escaping from something.
Chwehk! Chwehk!
D-Don't come any closer...
Amanda, get away! Behind me!
I think we lost it.
Are you hurt?
Thanks to you, I only scraped my knee a little.
I...I haven't seen this area before. I'm sorry, I was the one who said we should come here...
Oh no, you don't need to apologize. You had good intentions.
Don't worry, I can use the stars to guide us. You see that one there, shining brighter than the others?
Yeah...
That's the Guardian Star. It protects all the priests and priestesses of Constella.
Its light is shining on us and will show the way forward.
Really...?
Who would know better than the high priestess of Constella? See that light over there? It's shining just like a torch.
Wait a second... That's because it is a torch...
Phew, they almost got us that time! Put the torch out and let's get back to base.
Soldiers...
But isn't that armor...Aakhen?
...
The torch is still warm, they haven't been gone long.
The insignia on this cloth appears to be military.
That's the insignia of the Perland Army. Are the last of Lilias's troops hiding out here?
Would you be able to track them down, Brinus?
If they left tracks, they can be found. But there must be at least a dozen of them. The two of us alone don't stand a chance.
The most reasonable course of action would be to request assistance from the Aakhen soldiers nearby.
Perhaps. But the people who took Elena and Amanda are on the run...
If we don't take this chance, they'll only go further into hiding and become even harder to find.
You're saying we should try to save them right now, no matter the risk?
A foolish decision made out of emotion. But, for the sake of the mission...
We are at a clear disadvantage. You must follow my every instruction to the letter.
Yes, ma'am. And...thank you. I know this is unreasonable of me.
There is no need to thank me. That woman has useful information for me as well.
Fugitive's Hideout
Are you hurt anywhere?
No, I'm fine.
Kidnapped again... At this point, I'm starting to get used to it.
This is our chance to escape while there are no guards around, but how...?
...
Why are you staring at me? Do you want to say something?
Can I borrow your hairpin?
Umm, sure, but is this really the time...
Alright, so...
If she bends it like that... Huh? Why is she sticking it in the handcuff lock?
Hmm... It was a lot easier when he showed me...
CLICK
You unlocked the handcuffs!? Where did you learn that?
Mister Ains taught me.
He said that if I'm living in the exile colony, I should know how to get anywhere, even without a key.
Explain yourself!
I... They were definitely handcuffed and locked in the jail...
Well, they're not anymore! Were you kind enough to give them the key before you left!?
N-No, sir!
Shut up! Hurry up and find them!
That explains all the commotion.
How did they escape?
Hard to guess... Either way, with some of them leaving to search, now's our chance.
Let's hurry. We need to find them before the soldiers do.
We've already been past here...
You're right... This place is more of a maze than I thought. If we don't get out soon, we'll just end up getting captured again.
Ah! Somebody's coming!
Hide behind this box.
Hmm, I swear I heard voices over here...
I know it's cramped, Amanda, but put up with it for just a little while. He'll never guess we're here.
Okay, but something's tickling my feet.
Oh, you're right. It's kinda furry...
*squeaking*
Ahhh! So that's where you were hiding! Haha, I knew I heard something.
I can't just leave Amanda here and escape by myself...
In that case, I have no choice but to fight.
*whistling*
Someone found them! This way!
You looked confident when it was just you and me. How about now?
Oh no, I'm screwed...
Don't even try to fight. Just come along quietly... I'm already in a bad mood after you got me in trouble with the commander.
Elena! Cover your face with your clothes!
*coughing* What is this smell...? I'm...
Are you okay? You're not hurt?
Ray? What are you doing here?
Brinus helped me find you. Wasn't Amanda with you too?
Here I am!
Then you're both safe... Okay, let's get out of here.
Soldiers have blocked our escape. Come with me. We need to find a new path.
It's time to put an end to this.
I'm almost out of combat medicine.
There's nowhere else for us to run.
There is a way, but it's dangerous.
What is it?
This is a very unique and very old building...
If we destroy that pillar in the center, it will trigger a chain reaction.
And we use the resulting chaos as cover to escape.
You want to destroy the building we're standing in? We'll die!
I do have a powerful corrosive I use for experiments.
You're not planning to go along with this, are you?
I know it isn't the greatest plan, but if there's even the slightest chance...
Let's at least give it a try. It's better than all of us getting captured.
Once the corrosive weakens it, I'll attack it with full power.
I don't know what you're scheming about over there, but I'm sick of waiting. Everyone, get them!
They're coming. Hurry up and throw the corrosive.
Here we go...!
I have a bad feeling about this... Guardian Star, please protect us!
SMASH
*chuckling* You fool, you missed us completely!
C-Commander...! The pillar...is melting!
*gulping* Good thing he didn't throw it at us then.
*fizzing* *cracking*
Phew, it didn't break. I got scared for nothi...
Maximum power. Firing.
CRASH
She smashed the pillar! The wall...!
*crumbling* *crashing*
Kyaa! The building is collapsing! Doctor Ray!
We got out safely. Oh, but the other two...
Were they trapped on the other side of that pile of rubble?
Ray!
*crashing*
She's unconscious, but she's still breathing fine.
*cracking*
The floor is going to collapse. Were my predictions wrong?
There's a space underground. Maybe we'll be better off down there.
It'll be close, but if I put in all my power...!
*crashing*
Underneath the Fugitive's Hideout, Concealed Waterway
Where am I...?
The wall collapsed, then everything else started falling apart, and the floor was caving in...
And...I think a rock hit me on the head...
But I don't feel any pain. I don't even have any cuts.
Where's Brinus? She was definitely with me...
Did she...abandon me?
I was scouting the area. Don't worry, I have no intention of abandoning you.
I was running low on power, so I'm worried my treatment was inadequate. Fortunately, it appears to be healing well without infection.
What are you talking about? Why are you...
Humans bleed when they are hurt. This can lead to death.
Your wound was serious. I couldn't leave it be.
...Thank you. You don't look so great yourself... Are you okay?
A number of functions have been suspended due to low power. It is nothing serious.
They are safe.
How do you know that? Do you have some kind of...detection system?
I saw them myself. The area they were in was largely untouched.
There is no need to worry about them. We should focus on getting out of here first.
Concealed Waterway, Crossroad
This is troubling. My tracking system stopped due to low power.
I was jealous of her for coming out of nowhere and taking up all of Ray's attention.
But she saved my life and treated my wounds.
There's no need to worry. According to the survival data I have, in a situation like this...
I can't keep relying on others. I need to step up and do something for myself!
Brinus. I'll find the way out.
...How?
I'm high priestess of Constella. I will always have the Guardian Star to guide me.
We're underground. There are no stars.
Th-That doesn't matter. Even if I can't see it shining, it speaks to me.
There is no scientific basis for such an assertion, but there's no need to upset her by saying so.
Whichever direction we go in, there should be a path out. I'll just do as she says for now.
Okay. I'll leave it to you then.
Just you watch, I'll get us out of here!
Concealed Waterway, Near the Exit
I feel a breeze. There should be an exit if we keep going this way.
The breeze is carrying a faint smell of...gunpowder.
I can see a light! The Guardian Star has not abandoned us!
Wait, stop!
If we just turn this corner...
*chuckling* I knew you'd turn up here eventually. Open fire!
Ack...!
Urgh, not her again!
How did you know they would be...?
I smelled the gunpowder of their weapons. At first, I thought it was an error, but as we approached the exit, I became sure.
Sorry, Brinus. I was careless...
I'm just glad I stopped them in time.
She won't survive a second round.
We split our forces to cover both exits, but since it's only the two of you...
I cannot deny that the situation is hopeless.
I'm sorry, Commander. It appears I have failed my mission.
Surrender. I'll be destroyed, but you have value as a hostage. They won't harm you.
Not so long ago, it seemed as though our world was doomed to fall. But we held on to hope...
And our world is still here. I won't give up so easily this time, either.
Maybe... Maybe we'll be lucky...
I usually don't adopt plans with high levels of uncertainty, but I will make an exception this time.
Elena, I trust you to make the right decision.
Can you hold on for much longer?
I'm at the very limit of my power. There isn't long left until I cease functioning.
We can't give up hope yet...
I'm beginning to get bored of this. Take the girl with the white hair, destroy the other.
Arghhh!
Magic...?
C-Commander! It's the flag of Aakhen...!
So this is where you were hiding. Our long game of hide-and-seek has finally come to an end.
Everybody, prepare to fire! The followers of Lilias who violated the sovereignty of Aakhen and brought chaos to Cidonia...
Will face justice!
Administrator Cerise? What is she doing here...?
I knew the Guardian Star would save us!
Putting faith in baseless uncertainty was the correct path after all...
I've learned...something new...
W-Wait! Wake up! You can't die like this!
Outskirts of Shell Village, Temporary Clinic
...
You're awake!
Ray's clinic...
Oh, thank the stars! I was up all night praying.
If I'm functioning again, that must mean my self-repair systems were still intact.
But...there's no need to tell Elena that.
What happened after I shut down?
Don't worry, Cerise dealt with all that.
She had been chasing that group for a while. The place we were just at was a secret base from the old Kingdom of Perlutia.
Cerise was nearby when she heard the sound of it collapsing and then saw Ray and Amanda running out.
I see.
Anyway, Brinus... I'm sorry.
If you hadn't found those Perland soldiers, Amanda and I...
To be honest, I was jealous of you. I thought you were trying to get between Ray and I.
You saw me as competition?
Yes, and I'm ashamed of it.
You shouldn't be. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
Rather, it's a driving force to push you forward into becoming an even better version of yourself.
Thank you for being so understanding.
And when it comes to Ray, I don't think you have any reason to worry.
Judging by his physical and emotional state when he insisted we save you, it's clear he...
Clear he...?
Brinus! You're all better!
...
Oh, Elena, are you hurt somewhere? Your face is so red.
She is fine, I was simply sharing my observations of your...
Stop! Don't say another word!
Dark Iron Range, Shackle Gorge
The Black Knight who attacked Politia tried to destroy the entire world...
Until someone called Ras, the Heir of the Covenant, defeated him. Belian and the commander need to hear about this.
But what concerns me more is the prophecy from the Shandra Ruins.
The part about a star fragment falling from the sky... There's something similar in the history of ancient Politia.
I'll need to investigate this further.
Come ooooon, Bri! Tell us what happened!
I definitely haven't missed that voice...
The World's End Pub
I wasn't sure you'd be able to pull it off, but this information is more detailed and accurate than I'd ever hoped for.
Damn right we did it. You have no idea what we went through to bring this to you. Now hold up your end of the deal.
Where is Chloe?
She was here in this very pub just a few days ago.
She seems quite happy these days.
Is she still talking about becoming a queen here too?
Oh, no. Not at all. She's currently working on, how should I put it?, spreading joy to everyone.
Spreading...joy? Are we talking about the same Chloe?
Go to the address on this slip of paper and you'll be able to meet her.
I'm sure she'll give you an enthusiastic welcome.
What is it, Commander? Was the information not good enough? Did he refuse to tell you anything about Chloe?
No, it's not that... *sighing* I can't believe she's been here this whole time. No wonder we never found her.
Are you sure he was telling the truth? What's she doing in a place like that?
HIDDEN STORY Iron Dolls END
14. Buried Memories
1006 linesComet Temple, Isolated Ruins, the Past
At that time, isolated in their ruins, the Shandrans had only one thought.
"If we don't bring an end to this war immediately, we are all going to die."
Curses, famine, the scars of war... They had taken our future and dragged it through the mud.
As everyone held their breath, waiting for the end to come, I was looking after a girl...
Who had asked me to protect her no matter what.
HIDDEN STORY Buried Memories
City of Starlight Constella, Daybreak Avenue
I...am finished.
Wow! Thank you! You cleaned that up a lot quicker than I expected.
No need thanks. Eaton broke wall. Eaton should clean up.
*chuckling* Let's leave that in the past. You're making up for it by helping to restore the city and get rid of all the monsters.
You're an essential citizen of Constella.
Compliments...are always nice. Eaton...will try harder.
Anyway, have you regained any of your memories yet? I heard you don't remember anything about your past.
Still nothing.
That's a shame. Oh? Look, outsiders.
You got everything we need now, right?
Don't worry, I took care of that one.
Alright then, once Sven gets his head screwed back on, we can get going!
D-Don't worry, I won't make any more mistakes.
Grrrrr...
Eaton? Why are you sitting down all of a sudden?
I know...that light...
Star Chaser Heights, Solid Dirt Field
Phew, it took a while, but we're finally at Star Chaser Heights.
Yeah, yeah, it must have been hard on you. Okay then, Sven, how about you take the lead from here?
I'm sure you're tired of me getting lost all the time.
Ah... I-I didn't mean it like that... But, in the interest of sharing the load...
Haha, calm down, I understand. Anyway, here's the die.
Okay, I'll take the le, Huh?
The light...is gone?
Eh? What do you mean!? Give it here!
...!
It's fine for me? As expected, Sven was the problem.
H-Hey!
I don't think that's it. The light disappears when I hold it too.
Oh, that's good...
But why only me...?
Could it be because you're the one who broke the seal?
Ah, I get it. It sees her as its owner.
Maybe... Anyway, we should be careful from here on. We don't have a map of this area.
Another fork in the road... Which way do we go this time?
...master...here...
Please... Please listen...
Get up...Eaton. Need to find...
...coming...here...
City of Starlight Constella, Daybreak Avenue
I lost consciousness.
Right... You collapsed as soon as you saw that light those outsiders were carrying.
Light... Outsiders... Did they leave?
Yeah. I tried stopping them, but the bald guy was really scary...
Anyway, thank the stars you woke back up. I was worried I'd overworked you...
Your voice...woke me. And...I remembered.
You remembered!?
I...have something...I need to do. I need to go.
Right now? Ah, but I should get someone to check if you're still okay...
Don't stop me. I need to go. Somebody...is waiting for me!
Waiting for you...?
Star Chaser Heights, Solid Dirt Field
I'm finally here.
It's not long now until you gain unlimited power.
Unlimited power...
What's with that reaction? Isn't this what you've always wanted?
Overwhelming strength, no matter what it takes.
You are correct.
Then what is there to contemplate?
It's nothing. Didn't you say there were people here?
That's right. Those blinded by greed...and those who foolishly stick to their oaths until the end.
The Fallen Shandra Empire, the Past
We survived by relinquishing our time-honored history and civilization, but all that remained was ashes.
After a brief glance at the ruins of what was left of the Shandra Empire, one by one we walked away toward our new lives.
When our turn finally came, she spoke.
"Let's go to the Kingdom of Perlutia."
Star Chaser Heights, Valley of Regret
Is something wrong? You look worried.
I'm just tired, that's all.
Now that I think about it, it's been a while since we've had a good rest. How about making camp here?
I'll go find some firewood.
Wait! Going alone is too...
It's alright. Just be cautious.
What are you thinking? What if she gets attacked by a monster?
There's nothing to worry about. I've already had a look around the area, there are no particular dangers.
Still...
Wanda keeps having nightmares recently. I think she might feel guilty about that guardian.
It's possible. She doesn't show it, but she can be quite sensitive.
Emotional scars take longer to heal... We should give her some time alone to deal with her thoughts.
The voice is getting clearer the farther we go.
But those two don't seem to hear it at all.
Why is it only me...?
Star Chaser Heights, Valley of Regret
Is this Star Chaser Heights?
Teacher... You're still as foolish as ever. You probably won't give up on me right until the end, will you?
O-Of course...not...
...!
Until then, stay...stay safe...
I remember...this place. I fought here. I...protected someone.
I know...that person...is still here. I will find them. And then...
Kyeeek...!
Somebody is fighting...nearby. Dangerous. I will help.
The beasts here are a lot fiercer than other places. More numerous, too.
Oh well, I've faced worse hardships than this...
Kyeeeek...!
Huh...?
It's bad...to gang up...on the weak. I will not...let you get away...with this!
Is that a Golem? ...Hey, what do you mean "weak"!?
Shhhhhk...
Don't worry! I am strong! I will save you!
Phew, that should be the last of them. Thank you.
I like...to help. Fluffy man...helped too.
Haha, "fluffy man." My name is Hataan. You look like...
I am Eaton.
Just as I thought. I'd heard you were in Constella, what brings you here?
I have...somebody to protect...here. Must find them.
I see. I'm here to find somebody too. Although, maybe not for the same reason.
Who are you...looking for?
A lost soul...
Souls not good to lose. People need soul.
*chuckling* I didn't mean it literally. Hmm, perhaps you will know him...
He's the wearer of the Fighter's Mask. I'm sure he's almost as famous as you.
Fighter's Mask...?
Four eyes... This mask is certainly unique-looking.
Right? Doesn't it look so mysterious and intimidating? I'm going to wear it to every fight from now on.
Are you trying to hide the fact you're a Shandran?
Well, that's part of it. But it's symbolic, too. You see, at first, they'll think it's only a novelty.
But before long, just the sight of this mask will be enough to have them trembling in their boots.
I remember. Fighter's Mask... I must...stop...him.
Are you okay? Were you hurt in the fight?
Forem, Kingdom of Perlutia, the Past
She spent her time researching the power of the Spirits and the magic that came over from Ritania, which the ancient Shandrans had utilized.
Her brother, my best friend, made a name for himself as a fighter thanks to his natural physical abilities.
But...I was different. The Kingdom of Perlutia was too foreign to me, I was never able to settle down there.
And so I wandered the continent in the name of adventure, making sure to return to the capital Forem every now and then to see them.
Awakened Ruins, Near the Entrance
The farther we go, the rougher the road gets.
Monsters are attacking us more frequently too.
Sometimes I wonder if the light from the die is attracting them.
I've considered the same. Surprising.
What's so surprising about that?
Here. This way.
I'm hearing the voice more and more often.
What do you think Wanda? That die...
Is it that way...?
Huh, that's weird. She was right next to me a moment ago.
Sven! Over there!
It's definitely somewhere around here.
Yes... Come here...
Is it telling me to go inside the ruins?
It could be dangerous... But there must be a reason why I'm hearing this voice.
...This way.
Hey, where are you going!?
Why's she going into those ruins all of a sudden?
Beats me. I'm sure she would have heard me calling, though...
There's been something weird about her ever since we got here. What's up with her?
I'm worried about her. She looked...possessed.
Leave the worrying for later, we need to hurry and catch up with her first. The Strongman Company won't leave its reserve member behind!
Awakened Ruins
Tracking magic isn't working. But it doesn't seem like anyone has been erasing her tracks either.
That's a problem. I can't find a single footprint.
Let's keep going deeper for now. There's little else we can do...
Stop! Nobody is allowed to enter here!
Oh, there are people living even here. There's no need to be so vigilant, we're only...
Quiet! It's clear from your clothes that you're outsiders. Do everything I say, or you'll be sorry!
They're very hostile. Could there be something important in these ruins?
Wait, at least listen to what we have to say. These ruins are dangerous!
You told them Wanda was a tomb raider...? Is that a good idea?
We'll gain nothing from antagonizing them. For now, we should at least pretend to cooperate.
Anyway, with them as our guide, we'll find Wanda far quicker than if we were alone.
Hmm, can't say I disagree with any of that. Still, I'm surprised there are guardians here as well.
They seem to be protecting something, like the guardian we met back at the Comet Temple.
What are you two whispering about?
Nothing, nothing at all. Are you sure we're going the right way, though?
Do you doubt me? I've spent my entire life in these ruins.
My eyes never miss a thing. There were clear traces of somebody having come by here.
Is that so? I hadn't noticed a thing... Impressive.
Hmph... Anyway, did you mean what you said? Will you leave once we find this tomb raider?
Haha, of course! Why would we want to stay?
Then stop getting distracted and follow me. There are a lot of traps around here, one false step and...
Although, speaking of which, the tomb raider seems to have managed to bypass every single one. She's heading straight towards "it"...
How is that possible without a guide? Nobody else knows the way but me.
Deep within the Awakened Ruins
Where on Orbis am I...? The voice led me all this way...
It looks like some kind of laboratory. But what's a laboratory doing in a place like this?
You're writing again...
The voice...! Where am I?
Yup, it's one of my many old habits.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious what you write about... But I assume you won't be so kind as to tell me?
Oh, nothing much. Just how I'm feeling on that day or a few other little things.
So it's some kind of journal?
I guess you could call it that, but that's not what I like to call it.
I prefer to think of it as my "memories."
Am I hallucinating? That voice...
It sounded a little younger, but it was definitely the same girl who led me here.
Did she lead me here just to show me that conversation?
Huh?! Since when was I holding this book...
What is it even talking about...?
She really was here... How did she find this place?
There you are. Sven, it's time!
Sven...? How did you...
Sorry, Wanda. Please sit still for a moment.
W-What are you...
Phew, that went about as well as we could have hoped.
Heh... She resisted less than I expected.
She doesn't seem to have touched anything she shouldn't have, either.
But...it seemed like she knows you?
Well, uhh...
We've been chasing after each other for a long time now. It's only natural we'd become acquainted to an extent.
Y-Yeah, what he said! She's always acting like we're old friends, haha!
...Alright. Well, we should leave now.
Now leave this place. Although, uhh, you should avoid heading west.
I wouldn't want my fellow guardians to find you. And more importantly...
Make sure you don't run into those purple traitors. They won't let you go easily...
Why? Who are they?
That's more information than you need to know. Just remember my warning.
Now that we're out of there, can I let Wanda go? She's got that scary look in her eye again...
A plan like that must have been Hurado's doing, huh?
Forgive me, Wanda. It was the best I could think of in a hurry.
No, I'm the one who suddenly ran off. You must have been worried.
Speaking of which, why did you run off?
Ever since we got here...I've been hearing this voice. Over time, it kept getting clearer.
So that's why you had such a blank look on your face...
Once we got near these ruins, it led me inside.
Next thing I knew, I was in that laboratory and had this old book in my hand.
I've never seen writing like that before...
As far as I can tell, it looks a lot like Ancient Shandran. Nobody really knows how to read it anymore though, do they?
It seems to be some guy's journal.
Forem, Kingdom of Perlutia, the Past
After being away for several months, I returned to discover that I wasn't the only one struggling to adapt.
Her brother, my oldest friend, Adir.
Bored by his continuous victories, he began pursuing more dangerous delights.
And in a moment's carelessness, he was maimed.
Star Chaser Heights, Starved Wood
I followed that masked man from the Perland Festival all the way to the Comet Temple, but I still haven't found him...
But then I came across some tracks that led me here. Should I be thankful...?
Although, even that wouldn't have been possible without the map I bought from that antique store in Perland.
Speaking of which, the document I asked for with the map... Could it really be true?
Previously in a Perland Alley
You want a list of the fighters who were sent to find the Fighter's Mask? Their names are written down here at the bottom.
Oh, you're right. Aylen, Hurand, Hataan, Gregor, Mark, Batisse, Aaron...
It was pretty hard to find the information since it happened quite a while ago, but I managed to come across a copy.
Of the twenty who embarked on the search...only one came back.
That's right. Hataan. He refused to say even a word about what happened, so in the end, the report was only one line long.
"All but Hataan perished." Nothing else...
Because of that, he had to spend several more years as a slave.
There's no way this document is fake, is there?
Of course not. I may not look it, but I'm a man of integrity!
But don't you think there's something strange about this report?
...What do you mean?
Star Chaser Heights, Starved Wood
Batisse was the person missing.
The other disciple of Hataan's I met before... He was wearing a mask.
Could it be the Fighter's Mask?
One person missing, and only one survivor... What happened back then?
One thing is clear, though...
Hataan is trying to find him as well. It must be because of what happened.
Could it be poisonous?
Krrrrr...
Urgh, and I've lost my bag of antidotes. What a pain.
Chrrrrrrkk!
Y-You!
What an unlikely coincidence to run into you here.
It's no coincidence, I've been following you.
Pfft, then how come you ended up ahead of me?
I...didn't know the way, so I just kept blindly walking straight...
*chuckling* How funny. Sometimes the simplest explanations are the truth.
Alright then, why have you been following me?
I think our bigger priority is getting rid of those monsters.
Phew, that's all of them, Ack! My body...
Were you poisoned? Hmm, seems you don't have long left.
...
Starved Wood, Camp
Ngh...
You're finally awake. Don't move, there's still some poison in your system.
Why did you save me?
Shall we say it's because we shared the same teacher?
Or maybe I'd like to play a little game.
Are you...Batisse?
Haha, you must have seen one of my wanted posters.
No... It was a report on the search for the Fighter's Mask...
I thought I'd removed all records of that, but I see there are still a few copies lying around.
So, the mask you wear is...
That's right, it's the Fighter's Mask. Judging by your face right now, that's what you wanted to ask me, isn't it?
I always wondered why Hataan was traveling all the time, but now it makes sense.
All these years, he was chasing after you. Because of something that happened when you were looking for the mask.
You're not as clueless as you look.
What happened?
Even though I knew it was foolish to pursue strength, I wasn't able to give it up. That's all.
What's that supposed to mean...?
You want me to go with you? You do know that if you and Hataan end up fighting...
You will fight on his side, of course.
Then why would you suggest it?
Why did you come here? What are you looking for?
Looking for? Why would I be looking for anything?
You found the Fighter's Mask. You gained the strength you were looking for. But you use it only for crime and the massacring of civilians.
*chuckling* You sure have a lot of interest in me.
I thought there must be a reason for it. And that's when I realized...
Everything you did, it was all part of the process of trying to find something...
You seem extremely sure of that. Go on then, what is it I'm looking for?
KABOOM!
Ack...! We're under attack!
Do we have uninvited guests?
I knew it! The seal is weakening, the Fighter's Mask has appeared!
Who are they? Do you know?
Aha! Look at them, swarming in here, begging for death.
I don't think they have any intention of letting us out of here alive.
Go, my brothers and sisters! One of the keys has presented itself! Take the Fighter's Mask, and unlock our long-cherished desire!
Argh... They're keeping back and attacking in turns... They're pretty well organized.
And where on Orbis has Batisse gone!?
Hahahaha! I'll teach you to get in my way!
Arrgghhh!
Pathetic creatures! Die!
Urk...!
He jumped right into the middle of them! That seems dangerous...
And if anything...he seems to be enjoying the slaughter.
Fool, you're digging your own grave.
Now, everyone! Use the spell!
Ack... It's been a while since I last dealt with this...
We can finally see the man behind the mask.
Stupid old men... Have you still not given up on your quest for power?
Shut up!
Ha... Do you think...I will ever give up this strength to you!?
Chrrrrrrrrrrrk...
Why are they attacking us? Don't move an inch! We must maintain the spell!
Uhh... Hi?
Oh, get out of the way. This has nothing to do with you.
N-No! The spell!
...I owe you one.
Now that I think about it, haven't we been in this situation before? Although our roles were reversed...
Ah, anyway, this isn't the time. We should hurry up and get out of here.
Dammit, we lost him. Who'd have thought somebody else would be with him...?
We've cleared out all the monsters.
Do you have any idea where those two may have gone?
We're still looking for tracks. More importantly... Look at this. We've received information from the others.
*chuckling* How unexpected. Contact the village and tell everyone to start searching.
Everyone...? To find what?
The rest of the keys for removing the seal. Eaton, the living Golem, and the Star Compass.
All three keys...are here?
The time of prophecy has come. I'm sure "they" have noticed as well...
I will keep pursuing the Fighter's Mask. There's no time to waste, we need to get all the keys before anyone else.
The Fallen Shandra Empire, Hidden Laboratory, the Past
We spent every waking moment immersed in research, seeking to cure him.
But all we gained from it was frustration.
In the end, all the choices available to her slipped away, one by one, and hope faded like twilight.
Star Chaser Heights, Haze Plateau
I have a question for you...
Ask. Happy to answer.
What do you intend to do once you find the Fighter's Mask?
Don't know. Just need...to find.
Are you sure you know where to go?
I can feel...the mask. Not far. We will meet...soon.
Star Chaser Heights, Haze Plateau
Okay, I think they've stopped chasing us.
Why did you put yourself in so much danger just to save me?
"If you owe a debt, you must pay it." I'm sure you've heard that before.
Hataan...
We may not like each other very much, but we share the same teacher.
Pfft. How can you say stuff like that with a straight face?
Speaking of danger, what were you thinking running into the middle of them all like that? No matter how strong you might be, that's suicide!
You're right, it was a stupid thing to do. But for a long time now, I haven't been able to control it.
The more you use the power of the mask, the more irresistible the bloodlust becomes. It owns me.
By the time I return to my senses, all I can do is stare at the blood on my hands.
Whether it was something I wanted to do or not.
I knew you couldn't have gotten far. Brothers and sisters! Get them!
Dammit, there are even more of them than before!
Ha, if you're scared, you can run. I'm the one they want, after all.
Batisse, isn't it? We don't want you or your life. All we need is the Fighter's Mask.
Hand it over and we'll let you live.
Without this mask, I'm as good as dead anyway. If you want it, it will be quicker to kill me.
Hmph, if you insist.
I won't let you!
Oh right, I forgot about you. Enough wasting time, I'll end this quickly.
I have a Golem to hunt.
A Golem...?
Eaton, another of the keys. My brothers and sisters are fighting with it now.
Although, some bothersome Suin is making it a little harder than we'd hoped.
...
What is Eaton doing here...?
I've never seen you seem so shaken. Is this Golem a threat?
That Golem will be the biggest obstacle to our plan. I know it's here to stop me.
But before that happens, these guardians are going to take me from you, and you'll return to your miserable past.
Then tell me how to stop that from happening.
There's only one way to get out of this: trust me, and embrace my power fully.
I already follow you wholeheartedly.
We both know that's not true. Deep down, you deny me.
Was it so obvious? I only followed you to get stronger.
But as I became shrouded with so much unbearable sin, and the blood on my hands grew thicker and thicker, I came to realize...
Maybe I made the wrong choice.
I see. I didn't realize you were already crumbling.
Ack...! W-What are you doing to me?
Batisse, do you know why I made you commit so many terrible deeds?
To instill guilt, and to create an opportunity to take your body and soul for my own.
Is that why...you chose me?
Why else? What's more fragile than a failure consumed by his own inferiority?
Don't make that face. From the start, our partnership was one of mutual benefit.
I simply waited until now to cash in my side of the deal.
Ugh... I can feel my consciousness...slipping away...
Don't worry, you're not dying. You will live within me forever.
Then you can see for yourself...
The true meaning of unlimited power.
*chuckling*...
Die.
P-Please...
Heh...
No! Arghh!
A-Am I the only one left? No, stop! Get away, you monster!
Stop! That's enough! You've gone too far already!
Do you want to die too?
Get a hold of yourself, Batisse! You said it yourself, you don't want this!
You're only repeating the same mistake! You'll regret it when you come back to your senses!
Is this my chance to escape? We'll need to reorganize and wait for another chance...
The cockroaches are on the run.
Batisse? There's no need to worry about him, he's gone.
I mean exactly what I said. He's gone far away, asleep, buried in his guilt.
An insect like you has no hope of stopping me. You cannot save him.
This body belongs to me now. Adir.
Let her go! Killing is bad!
Eaton. It's been so long.
*gasping* *panting*
Lena? What are you doing here?
H-Hataan...
I see he still doesn't have his memories back. Then I have no need to destroy him...yet.
But I will need to stop you from following.
Ack...! So strong. But I...can endure.
Even after all this time, you're still as ignorant as you always were.
Mask...knows me?
Of course, nobody knows you better.
Tell me. Tell me who I am!
Now, why would I do that? Once you have your memories, you will only get in my way.
I prefer you as an empty shell.
That way I won't have to kill you.
Stop. Answer me!
Lena, I won't ask you why you're here. Just go back to Witchaven.
Batisse... No, he's gone. The mask has consumed him completely, hasn't it?
That's right. As was the case with many other fighters before him.
How do you know him?
There's no need for you to worry about that. It has nothing to do with you.
Yes, it does. I wasn't with him for long, but long enough to know he isn't completely evil.
He feels guilt for what he's done.
But he wasn't able to stop it because of the mask.
Mmm... I used to think like that too.
But no matter what you say, it doesn't change the fact that all of this started because of a choice that he made himself.
So you aren't going to save him?
If we remove the Fighter's Mask, maybe he'll return to his normal self.
Stop! It's already too late... The mask has consumed him. All we can do is put him to rest.
How interesting to see outsiders talking about one of the keys.
If it's okay with you, I'd like to hear a little more.
Perhaps we could be of help to one another.
The Fallen Shandra Empire, Hidden Laboratory, the Past
After exhausting all possible methods of helping him, we fell into despair.
But she refused to give up and began studying ancient relics that were being stored in the Comet Temple.
When she brought back documents on the Eye of a Shattered Star...
I already knew what choice she would make, and what she would ask of me.
In spite of that, I could not refuse her.
Great Leaps Ruins
Is there anything useful written in there?
It's hard to say. A lot of things have faded too much, and most of what's left I can't understand anyway.
I have been able to work a few things out, though. The real name of this "item which should not exist in this world" that we're looking for...
Is the "Eye of a Shattered Star." It's an item of unknowable power.
It used to be kept in the Comet Temple, but it seems like whoever wrote this stole it.
And then ran all the way out here to avoid the guardians.
So...this is a tomb raider's diary?
Not quite. More like a research log. It seems they were trying to use the Eye for something.
Is there anything about this die of ours?
Hmm, wait a second. Aha, here!
We built a contraption to draw the power out of the Eye.
I pray the path revealed by the constellations engraved on each of its twelve sides will show us the way.
I've dubbed it the "Star Compass."
Oh!
Wanda...?
This bit...is a little weird.
Come on, you're scaring me. What does it say?
But I realized too late...
Creating the Compass was an even greater mistake than stealing the Eye.
But by that point, the tragedy had already begun.
Tragedy? Does it say anything a little less vague?
Only a memo saying they're moving the laboratory...
I think... I think the new location is where the Star Compass is leading us.
I'll need to read further for more information.
Huh? Right at the back...there's something scribbled in a different handwriting.
...!
He's...dangerous. Please...help.
The direction of the light changed suddenly...?
And that voice...
You heard it again?
It was calling someone dangerous. This light is definitely leading us towards something.
But...is it okay for us to keep going this way?
What do you mean?
The Star Compass and that...that...
Eye of a Shattered Star?
Yeah. We originally came here to reunite them. But now we're following this voice.
It's like...it's using us.
I don't feel entirely comfortable with it either. What do you think, Wanda?
I'm not sure either...
To be honest, the only reason I even came all this way was because I felt guilty about the guardian's death.
I thought that maybe if we found somewhere safe for this, it would help me feel at least a little better.
I guessed as much.
But after hearing that voice and finding this book, I started thinking a little differently.
Maybe this is something I need to be doing.
The Star Compass does respond only to you, after all.
There must be a reason behind all this.
And...I want to know what will happen at the end of it.
In short...you want to keep on going.
Sorry, but yes.
It's nothing to apologize about! I just brought it up because I was a little worried.
Feel free to do what you want. You may have forgotten, but you're currently hiring us.
He's right. We're yours to use as you please until we're back in Ritania.
Thanks, guys.
Ah! Why am I only just remembering now!?
What's got you so surprised?
That guardian in the green robes...
He told us not to go west in case we run into other guardians or "those purple traitors."
But we still haven't come across anyone. Not that I'm eager to...
And if he called them traitors, I imagine the relationship between the two groups isn't very good.
I'd hate to get stuck in the middle of them...
*rumbling*
By the sounds of it, it might be too late for that. Seems like there's a fight nearby.
Quick, hide! The last thing we want is to get caught up in something like that.
Give it everything you've got! We need to keep the keys from the hands of traitors who would abandon their vows for the sake of their own greed!
Mask...gone. Getting attacked. Can't...move...
We were so concerned about finding the Star Compass, and then the Golem just fell right into our laps!
A key is right before us! Once we rid ourselves of those abominable hypocrites, we're free to take what we've always wanted!
They really hate each other, huh? And stuck right in the middle of them...
That's the Golem from Constella. Why's it out here?
I think the Golem might be the "key" they keep going on about.
You could be right. But why...
Don't you remember back in Constella? That Golem suddenly collapsed after seeing the light from the Star Compass.
I didn't think anything of it at the time, but after what we've gone through since coming here... Maybe that Golem is connected to all this.
That sounds like a reasonable conclusion to reach after seeing it again here in the exact place the light was leading us to.
Y-You're not thinking of getting involved in all that now, are you!?
Why, you scared? Don't worry, I'll save you if anything bad happens.
Sven, you distract one side, and Hurado, you distract the other. You can do that much, right?
O-Of course, it's nothing for the leader of the Strongman Company.
Ha. Don't worry, we won't disappoint you.
Can't hold back...much longer. Going to...break.
Stay focused! Don't get pushed back!
Stop it, before you blow the whole place up.
Brothers and sisters, triumph stands before us!
Victory is nice, but you seem to have forgotten your purpose.
Phew, I managed to slip through. Hey, can you still move?
...
It's completely out... How do I wake it up? It's far too heavy to carry...
Oh, I know!
...!
Light...gives me strength...and memories. I know you. Constella. Outsider.
Memories? Well, at least you seem to recognize me! That will make things easier.
I know it must be difficult, but try moving. We need to get out of here!
It doesn't seem like anyone followed us... Sven and Hurado will be okay, right?
Almost broke. But safe now. Thank you.
Leave it. I saved you because I need you.
Need me?
You know what this item is, don't you?
Yes. Star Compass.
Just as I thought. What's your connection to it?
Need for...control.
Made together. But...
We finally meet. Thank you, Wanda.
The voice... You were trying to lead me to this Golem. Did you change the direction the light was pointing?
I did. There is danger coming. It needs to be stopped.
That's why you, the Star Compass, and Eaton...him...needed to meet.
Danger is coming? What danger?
I would like to tell you, but there's no time. Soon, even talking to you like this...will be beyond my capabilities.
You must have a lot of questions. But don't fret...
He will tell you everything. So please...
Hmph, she just said what she wanted then vanished.
I remember...everything.
I know who I am. And what I must do.
You're talking faster than usual?
Ah, don't touch that book! There are still so many parts I couldn't read yet!
I will tell you about the connection between Eaton and the Star Compass. And the final words of this book.
I wrote this book. Me... Ento.
Star Chaser Heights, the Past
I stole the Eye of a Shattered Star for her, but it wasn't long before the guardians came to take it back.
We fled to the empty lands of the east and settled down again.
Fortunately, our research continued smoothly.
But soon, I came to realize the power the Eye held, and I knew we had to stop.
She disagreed. I couldn't get past her desperation to save her brother.
All I could do was stay with her until the end, whatever that was.
And so I created a Golem, Eaton, to protect her.
Great Phantom Forest, Entrance to Broken Beak Road
The others. They still haven't returned.
They'll come soon enough. I left some little breadcrumbs for them to follow.
So...you made Eaton. But, right now you ARE Eaton?
You read my journal. Didn't you?
Only the first half. I couldn't understand every word, but I got the general meaning.
So you reached the part. About how "the tragedy had already begun"?
Right, and how you moved the laboratory.
I wrote about what happened after that. But I will just tell you now. As we walk.
Where are we going, though? Can't we wait for the others first?
There isn't time. If we stop to wait for them. We'll be too late. We might not be able to stop what's going to happen.
Well, if you say so...
Follow me. Careful, there is magic in this forest. Several spaces can exist here at one time. They can be very large and complex.
What a strange place. Will the others be able to follow...?
I'm sure Hurado will be fine. But Sven...
We moved to a new laboratory. In order to escape the guardians.
Anima and I made the Star Compass. And researched the Eye of a Shattered Star.
So that voice's name was Anima...
It looked like a meteorite. On the outside.
But the source of the power that the Star Compass led us to. Was comprised of the hatred and rage of dead souls.
There was only one thing that the power coveted. A living body.
Anima thought we could use that power. To give Adir a new body.
And so she tried...?
Yes. We didn't have time. So we pushed ahead with an experiment. Moving souls between bodies.
I was conceited. I thought I could use the Star Compass to control the Eye.
But it was beyond my abilities. That power overcame me in an instant.
So Anima moved your soul into the Golem?
Yes. And I saw what happened next...
Adir was moving. But we had failed. He was not the Adir we had known.
He was a new kind of evil. Born of hatred and rage.
We realized too late. We would need to stop him to avert disaster.
And then the guardians who had been chasing us. They suddenly arrived.
The forest ends soon. And then we will arrive at the sealed ground.
What happened to Anima?
She was sealed together with the Eye of a Shattered Star. She talks with the souls. Countless of them.
And so, she has started losing her sense of self. She's reaching her breaking point.
When she does... The seal will break. We need to reach her before that.
I see... But what can I do? I'm just...
We need the Star Compass.
Then wouldn't it be better for you to take it? You're the one who made it, after all. I don't even know how to use it properly.
No, it chooses its own user. The person who opens the box it was sealed in. That is you.
So that's why the light only comes out when I'm holding it?
That is correct. When the Star Compass was awoken, that's when the seal started to break down.
You have a responsibility. That is why you must come with me.
And...somebody needs to enter the Eye. And help Anima maintain the seal.
...Excuse me?
Great Phantom Forest, Central Branch Path
You have come a long way, outsiders. It's a pleasure to meet you. I am the elder leading the Green Shade Guardians.
I'm Hataan, and this is Lena. We're simple fighters, that's all.
And yet the man you are chasing is far from simple, I hear?
Sorry, but...I heard we can save Batisse from the Fighter's Mask. Is that true?
It's theoretically possible, yes. And there have been some successful cases of that happening...
...Really? How?
I knew the power of the Eye of a Shattered Star was dangerous.
Which is why I mobilized all of my fellow guardians to chase them across the continent.
But once we reached their laboratory, it was already filled with the power of the Eye.
Faced with such horror, a few ran away.
The woman, Anima, said she would use her body as a medium to seal the power away.
With Eaton's help and her sacrifice, we were able to trap Adir within the Fighter's Mask.
So the voice that speaks to the wearers of the mask is this Adir...
Once it was all over, our four elders had a long meeting. That's when we learned...
The seal has three "keys": the Star Compass, Eaton, and the Fighter's Mask. And they should never be together in the same place.
One by one, they took the keys elsewhere.
And the rest of us stayed here to protect the seal.
I did a little research of my own and found out quite a few people have worn the Fighter's Mask.
If the guardians were protecting it...how did it get out into the world?
With wisdom comes foolishness and a weakness to danger and temptation.
What does that mean...?
Among the Purple Stamp Guardians were some scholars who had been researching the Fighter's Mask...
Those same scholars became tempted by the mask, and that's how it found its way out.
Strange. When I was in search of the Mask, there were no guardians or anyone protecting it.
It's only natural. I wish they would have stopped studying it, but...
Their greed knew no limits.
I see. But why do you need our help?
The only goal of the Green Shade Guardians is to protect the Eye of a Shattered Star.
And Adir, the Fighter's Mask, wants the Eye.
It's shameful to admit...but we can't stop him on our own.
That's why we need you.
Then tell us. How can we help you and save Batisse?
When the Mask begins consuming a body, the original owner sinks into the abyss.
But it hasn't been long since it started, so we may be able to cause some kind of ripple to wake him back up...
We can break the Mask's control over him?
That's right, as long as we don't miss our chance.
And if you seal it back in the Comet Temple...
It should be safe again.
What are our chances of success?
It's hard to say... Elders are able to get a short, weak glimpse of the future.
These visions are often only a reflection of our hopes, but from what I did see... Our future was not dark.
Green Shade Guardian Village
The wearer of the Fighter's Mask really came... Just as foreseen...
And unlike your purple friends, you fulfilled your duty faithfully. Sadly, your resistance is futile.
Are you so sure...? We may not be able to defeat you...but we can get in your way...
You will never be able to reach the place you seek.
That's enough from you.
Argh...!
Great Phantom Forest, Entrance
Is this how they intend to block me?
...!
Barriers... What a pain. *chuckling* But they'll need to try harder than that.
Outskirts of the Great Phantom Forest, Purple Stamp Guardian Village
I thought things were as bad as they could get. We missed out on both the Star Compass and Eaton, and only got those weirdos as consolation...
I wasn't expecting you to just walk in here of your own accord. What are you planning...?
I have no intention of fighting you. I'm here to propose a deal.
Haha, are you in any position to be negotiating?
You seem to have forgotten, you're little more than research material to us. Our property.
No, the ones who have forgotten are you people. Weren't you supposed to be keeping an eye on me?
We're wiser than those other guardians, that's all. They...don't understand.
They chose to stick to the status quo, and their duty of protection. But we are different.
Whatever we do, the seal will one day break, and even with all our strength combined, we will not be able to stop it.
So we made a choice. Rather than sit and wait, we will study and prepare for it.
That may be how you justified it to yourselves at first.
But in time you became greedy. That's why you attacked your fellow guardians and tried to take Eaton.
It was necessary. They were so ignorant they could not grasp our true intentions.
True intentions? Ha! Enough word games.
Have you forgotten what happened when you forced me and Eaton to fight?
Shut up! If those Violet Droplets hadn't interfered...
That's right. Without them, Eaton would not have gone missing, and I wouldn't have spent so much time out in the world.
Argghhhh! I've had enough of listening to your crap!
Brothers and sisters! Capture him!
With the others dead or fleeing...in the end, you're the only one left. How fitting.
You took us all on alone... This is unbelievable...
With wisdom comes an inability to recognize one's own foolishness. Do you know what removing the seal would mean?
Is it...doing something to you?
It is. As the power of the Eye of a Shattered Star spreads across the land, Eaton and I grow stronger.
If you continue to defy me, I will have no choice but to beat you to a pulp.
W-What about the deal you wanted to make?
Ah, now you're willing to talk?
It's simple, just come with me and you'll get what you want.
And you know what that is?
Such a pointless question. You have been experimenting for a long, long time. You've even used one of your own as a host.
I know your goal better than anyone else: knowledge.
Mysterious knowledge that does not exist in this world. And you're willing to do anything to obtain it.
And...you're going to give it?
I will. If you join me.
Great Phantom Forest, Entrance
*chuckling* It's quite a crude little barrier. They must have set it up in a hurry to stop you.
So you can get rid of it?
Of course. Who do you think it is that developed the barriers the guardians use?
The Purple Stamp Guardians, of course! I can tear down these shoddy Green Shade barriers...
...!
...Like a sheet of paper.
Oh, maybe you're more useful than I thought.
From what the others have told me, those green bastards started heading toward the seal some time ago.
But our biggest problem is that we've lost Eaton and the Star Compass.
There's no need to worry about that. These things you call "keys" are strongly connected to one another.
I can feel him now that the barrier is gone. He's some ways ahead, but there's a path we can use to overtake him.
And best of all, he's with the Star Compass *chuckling*
You're... You're not thinking of going through the monster forest, are you? That's not a good idea, it's far too dangerous.
I don't need any help from a weakling like you. Especially now that I have these two, thanks to you.
We'll get through it in no time.
...
...
Star Chaser Heights, Pride Temple
Why are you stopping all of a sudden?
The barrier is gone. Adir is coming.
Adir... The Fighter's Mask? If he breaks through Anima's barrier and takes the power for himself...
We must hurry. He knows a shortcut. He will be coming after us.
No matter how much we hurt them, they won't stop coming back at us!
There's only one way to deal with enemies that won't back down.
...Keep hitting them until they do!
W-What kind of advice is tha...
Kraaaargh!
Watch out! Over here!
...!
Are there usually so many monsters here?
The seal of the Eye of a Shattered Star is failing. The power has started to leak out...
It must be attracting them...
It's always nice to see a familiar face.
Mmph!
You only had a short window to stop me, and you took it. As expected of an elder.
Batisse... Has the Mask really consumed you?
Yes, your precious Batisse is gone.
He has succumbed to me entirely and sleeps now in the abyss of unconsciousness.
His body is mine.
No, there is still a chance... I will defeat you, even if it costs me my life!
Foolish animal. *chuckling* You think those pathetic fists of yours will stop me?
Let a true fighter show you how it's done.
After all that bragging, I'm a little disappointed. Batisse hit far harder than that.
Has he taught all his disciples to be as full of drivel as he is? Fine...
If you insist, I'll kill you with my own two hands.
Hey! You! Take those two and go stop Ento.
We can't let him get anywhere near the Eye of a Shattered Star, got it?
...As you wish.
Hmph... I'll do what you want for now...
But when it comes time, the power will be mine. That is the future I have foreseen!
He's off his guard. This could be our one and only chance.
A ripple that will lift him back up from the abyss... Right, that could be the only way.
I'm sorry to involve you in something so dangerous, Lena, but...please help me.
Argh...!
Ha... Now that I've dealt with that old dog, you're all that's left.
Please... Please stop... I...don't want this...
*chuckling* Didn't you know that brute strength is more important than technique?
Perhaps it is. But only when you're able to match me. You're no better than he is, you're too slow!
Ack...! When did the gap between us close so much!? No... I can't!
Done!
Ha... I've...got you now...
H-Hataan... How...
That's right, you've got me, but at the price of a hole through your stomach.
I...don't care... I can let go of my insignificant life...in order to spare yours... Listen to me...
Batisse... You can't let yourself lose...to a monster like this... Didn't I tell you?
You said you wanted to be as strong as me... But you're already strong... You just...need to prove it...
Get off of me, you mutt! Do you think your empty words will be enough to rouse him?
What is "strength"?
Hmm, it's not an easy word to define. What do you think it is?
To me...it means not losing to anyone. Strength means having absolute power.
Like you.
*chuckling* Sure, I suppose you could call that strength.
But, you see... Physical strength inevitably fades with time. And besides, the world is wide, and there are many strong people in it.
You've never lost, though.
Do you really want to become strong?
Of course! I won't stop until I'm even stronger than you!
Then listen closely. True strength comes from here.
My head...?
That's right. It's all in your mind. Your body will decline as the years pass, but not your mind.
Never forget that, Batisse.
I think I understand that now.
Huh!? How... How did he wake up...?
I have no more need for you.
Enough! You are nothing without me!
Nothing!
That may be true. But all I did with the strength you gave me was commit evil deeds...
And I realized this is not the kind of strength I want, yet I could not give it up.
Because, like you said, I would return to my old, pitiful self.
That's right. So take my hand again. Didn't we make a promise? I can give you unlimited power.
I have no more need for that promise, no matter how strong you can make me.
It would not be my own strength.
Batisse...?
I'm so sorry... Because of my foolishness, you...
Lena, now! The mask...
No... I'm so close! I won't let you insects stop me now!
Remember what you told me? "An insect like you has no hope of stopping me." Well, I'm about to prove you wrong.
Now you're below even an insect.
Hataan, we did it! We saved Batisse from the Fighter's Mask!
...
...
Pride Heart
I know you called it a shortcut, but I didn't expect it to bring us right into the middle of the ruins...
*rumbling*
Huh...? Is someone else here besides us?
Adir is here... He's fighting somebody. This is our chance. We must hurry.
Wait, first... I need to ask something.
Be quick.
If someone has to be with Anima to help her maintain the seal...
Does that someone need to be...me? Like you said, I'm the new owner of the Star Compass...
...
Why aren't you answering? I don't want to... I... I still have a whole bunch of stuff I'd like to do... That I need to do...
I never guessed I'd get dragged into something like this and need to sacrifice myself...
I don't understand. There is no need for you to do that.
Then why didn't you say that earlier!?
I was thinking about something. I only just figured it out.
Eaton's body contains the power of the Eye of a Shattered Star. So...
If you use the Star Compass... And I use both the power and my soul...
We can maintain the seal.
But then you...
That's fine. I will be with Anima. I can fulfill my promise. To protect her.
Is this the only way?
Yes. But I need help. So please...
I'll do whatever I can.
Stop. There are several people ahead.
Is this the Eye of a Shattered Star I've only ever read about...?
Such glorious and beautiful power... How could anybody want to lock this away?
Soon it shall be mine. Nobody will be able to stop me! Not that idiot in the Mask, nor those guardians with their silly oaths!
Mwahahahaha!
Don't touch it! It's too dangerous!
Ha, where have you been hiding all this time?
Are you here to stop me? Do you think you can take on all these monsters by yourself?
Who said he was alone?
Ah, it's you. The outsider with the Star Compass. I prepared something for you especially.
...
...
I knew I'd seen those footprints before!
I feel power coming from them... They are not in control of themselves.
What are you two doing!?
Stop! Don't get any closer!
Did you follow the trail I left for you? But why are you with that guy?
Argh...! Hey, why are you attacking me?
The Mask gave them to me as my own faithful Human shields.
They have no consciousness. They don't recognize you.
If we don't hold the seal, we won't be able to save them either, will we?
That is true. I will help.
No, leave these two to me. You deal with the guardians.
Can you manage them alone?
There's no need to worry about me, it'll be like fighting a couple of drunks. Besides, who knows when I'll get a chance like this again?
Okay. I will deal with the guardians. And hold the seal.
I'll be over to help you in just a minute.
I expect as much from Sven, but I can't believe Hurado fell for it too...
*sighing* Alright, you two, looks like I need to smack some sense back into you.
How am I struggling so much against a single Golem, even with all these monsters fighting for me...?
Power is flowing into me... The seal is already too weak...
It's dangerous. I need to stop it now!
I saw my future... I had power and knowledge unlike anybody ever before...
Wanda, hurry!
Ugh...
Uck...
Wow, I really was able to take both of them on at once.
As expected, they were both trying to attack me individually and kept tripping over each other.
Our strength has always been in our teamwork.
You guys just take a little nap here. I'll explain everything when you wake up.
Am I too late?
I hope not. But it doesn't look good.
Well, all we can do is try...
Are you ready? Take out the Star Compass.
...!
Light is pouring out of it and into the Eye of a Shattered Star!
And into Ento too...
No... The seal...is going to break...
Ento...
Anima? I'm sorry. I promised to protect you. But I left you alone for so long.
You always lived for my sake, ever since you first made that promise.
We're together now. It's okay. We can share the blame for causing this disaster.
No. Do not sacrifice yourself for me. You were given a new life...
But then... The seal...
I can maintain the seal by myself. His greed to achieve his future will pour in.
What do you mean?
You don't need to keep protecting me.
Please, live for yourself, free from my greed.
This is farewell, Ento.
Something's changing. Is this okay, Ento?
It's unstable. At this rate...
No! I cannot achieve my goal if the seal is closed!
Hey, get your hands...off...the Star Compass!
Wanda!
I can feel it... Such mysterious power... Truth... And...
It's all mine!
...!
He ran toward the Eye, and then... I can't actually remember.
Days passed before I regained consciousness.
When I did wake up, I saw Sven snoring nearby...
...and Hurado nursing me with a scary look on his face,
It wasn't long after Lena had left. I never actually met her myself, but I heard how she had been a lot of help to us elsewhere.
Apparently the Green Shade Guardians had asked her to seal away the Fighter's Mask back in the Comet Temple for them.
The fighter Hataan had suffered serious injuries, but thankfully, they were able to save his life. Though he still hadn't woken up.
And Batisse, his disciple and former wearer of the Fighter's Mask, stayed by his side the entire time.
He hoped to atone for his sins by helping the Green Shade Guardians keep watch over the Eye of a Shattered Star.
And last but not least...
Star Chaser Heights, Release Forest
Are you all better?
You bet. I'm still a little sore, but I've never felt so refreshed! I haven't slept that well in years.
But what about the seal, how was it closed? Didn't that guardian get in the way?
He didn't get in the way of anything. He went straight into the Eye.
He was terrified of losing his chance. To obtain the power and knowledge within forever.
So he chose his greed over his own life... I don't think I'll ever understand that.
I'm sure he will enjoy talking with all the souls in there. The seal will be maintained for a very long time.
Can we call this a happy ending...?
Will you return to Ritania?
We haven't really decided yet. Since we're already here, it would be nice to explore a whole new culture. Not to mention...
Sven, I've told you this before, but with requirements like this...
You won't find a single new member for the company, no matter which continent we're on.
Hmph, you can't be sure of that. The perfect candidate could be waiting right here in Cidonia.
Someone with the dignity and qualifications worthy of a member of the Strongman Company!
So it doesn't seem we'll be going home any time soon.
How about you? What will you do?
Anima told me to live. So first, I'll go back to Constella...
Oh right, Anima. What will happen to her?
I don't know. I can't feel her anymore now that the seal is closed. Perhaps...I'll never hear her voice again.
My life as Ento is gone. In time, I will forget Anima.
But in Constella, as Eaton, I know a lot of people. I can start again.
You haven't lost everything...
I...don't need this journal anymore.
Try taking a look at the final page first. It might change your mind.
This...is Anima's handwriting.
It's a letter she left for you, a new "memory" Ento doesn't know.
Because this memory belongs to Eaton, not Ento. Won't you be able to treasure it for a long time?
...Thank you, Wanda.
Hey, Wanda! We're ready to leave! There's something we need to talk to you about too!
Ugh... I already know it's going to be something I don't want to hear.
Well, than I guess this is it, En...
Please, call me Eaton.
Of course. I hope we can meet again some day, Eaton.
