77 linesCHAPTER 8 Regrets and Decisions
West Prairie, Arunka's Home
Are you ready?
We have already decided which troops will stay behind, and thanks to you, I can leave here safe in the knowledge that everything will be okay.
I would never have been able to protect this place without your help.
I wasn't talking militarily. Are you emotionally prepared?
I always knew the day would eventually come that Peira would make her move.
I just didn't expect it to come so soon...
And she's really heading east, not here?
If she's still the same Peira I know, then yes. She probably already knows that our defenses in the east are relatively weak.
She has her own supporters there as well, so she'll join forces with them, then start an all-out war.
We need to get there before she does and evacuate all of the Suin and Humans before confronting her.
I'm sure there are a lot of Humans who found themselves lost in the East Prairie while fleeing Khan.
There sure is a lot to worry about. As if it wasn't bad enough you need to fight Peira, you need to evacuate people at the same time.
It is all part of my duty as owner of the Prairie.
Please take care of the Humans and Suin who stay behind. I'll be relying on you if Peira decides to strike here first for some reason.
You can count on me. I can't guarantee we'll win, but we can buy you time.
We have to leave, Arunka.
Goodbye, Basar.
Act 1 Approaching Darkness
East Prairie, Rough Ground
You haven't been this far east in a long time, have you?
No... It would only provoke a fight.
It all looks even worse than I remember...
This is where we first met... Will it be where we say our final farewell too?
The last of the soldiers are in position.
Good work.
Hehe!
Do you like praise that much?
Of course! Just one kind word from Arunka gives me all the strength I need!
Maybe it's just because you're young.
Hmph, I'm all grown up, thank you very much! I can fight enemies twice my size with my bare hands.
That's not what I heard from Arunka...
What are you talking about!?
It's a secret, haha!
This is no time for squabbling.
Sorry, I was trying to distract Orte so she wouldn't be so nervous.
Who said I was nervous!?
Hmm, this must be where the Suin have been living.
Orte, order them to evacuate and find any Humans who are in hiding as well.
I'm on it!
How about over there, Arunka?
Those houses are almost completely abandoned. Have they already gone elsewhere?
Maybe they all followed Peira to Khan.
I don't think so. She would have at least left some Wolf Morai behind to keep me from just walking in.
We'll just have to keep looking.
CLANG!
Oh? Didn't that come from Orte's direction?
Wolf Morai House
You think I want to be here?! I'm only helping you because Arunka ordered me to!
Helping us?! Who do you think it is that forced us to live out here in the first place?!
Enough.
Lady Arunka!
...
I understand why you might not wish to do as I say, but I have no time for your stubbornness.
War is coming to the Prairie, at the hands of your dear Peira.
It's best for you to get away from here while you still can.
...
How can you get your revenge against me if you're dead?
Why should we do as you tell us? This is our home.
Even if Peira became the emperor of Khan, this is the land where we were born and raised.
If I must die, I'll die here.
Then you want to fight me?
Not at all. What chance would I have against the owner of the Prairie?
What are you doing...
*slicing*
Urk...
...!?
I'd rather die than follow your orders, Arunka.
...
Why? Why have you gone and done this?!
Was it really worth more than anything we had between us?!
Yes, it was.
...
It was important to me.
2. Part 2

Morai Base
Strange... Why hasn't Peira shown up yet?
The remaining Suin and Humans are continuing westward, but Peira's forces are nowhere to be seen.
Those Suin from earlier didn't seem like a defensive force mobilized by Peira either.
Maybe I guessed wrong...?
Lady Arunka!
We have lost contact with the troops in the south.
What?!
Every morning when the sun comes up, they're supposed to report on the situation in the south and the movements of Theranhad's army.
But no message came today.
It seems Theranhad has started moving north.
What should we do? If we send anyone south, we won't have enough troops here...
Who cares? I'll stay behind. You go take the others south.
If you aren't able to stop Theranhad in their tracks, things here on the Prairie will only get messier.
I know that, but I can't just leave you here. You'll be in grave danger if Peira shows up.
And?
Hwayoung...
Don't worry, I'm not abandoning myself to despair. I really am fine being left behind here.
I have a debt to repay.
...
Yes?
You're coming south with me. Leave as few troops behind here as we can afford.
Understood!
I hope you understand retreating when appropriate is all part of fighting a war.
Then, you're telling me to run away if necessary?
Don't worry, I won't kill her before you're back.
Killing her won't do anything for me. It's not like I'll be able to use my arms again, even if I put her in the ground.
I have another method in mind to make her pay for that.
...Thank you.
Harrowing Plain
...The soldiers...
Have Theranhad already been through here?
If they've reached this far already, we're in big trouble.
We should have moved faster. I was too complacent.
Orte, make sure you're ready. Looks like it's going to be a dangerous fight.
...I'm fine! I'm willing to lay down my life if it means keeping you safe, Arunka.
Don't say that. The best thing you can do for me is to survive.
Yes, ma'am!
WOOOSH! THUNK!
Orte!
Argh!
We're under attack!
Were they lying in wait...?
Will it be okay for us to keep going this way?
Tell the troops in the rear to move north again.
We have to minimize the damage and let Hwayoung know what's going on here!
Understood!
I can't believe there are so many of them... And there must be even more behind them.
Reinforcements keep pouring in. We can't hold them off like this!
Even if Hwayoung left now it won't be enough time. What should I do...?
BOOM
The strength of the Wicked!
...Is that...?
Lady Arunka!
Adin?!
Look, Yulha! I took them all out at once!
Good work, Juni.
What's Adin doing with a bunch of Wicked?
3. Part 3
57 linesAct 3 A Welcome Reunion
High Wind Camp
I never expected you to set foot on the Prairie again, let alone be reunited with you like this...
You never know what the future holds.
I certainly didn't think I'd ever come here of my own volition to fight on behalf of the Prairie.
On behalf of the Prairie? Hah! Who gave you the authority to say that?
Do I sense some tension or...
Of course it's tense. Do you have any idea how much heartache those Wicked have caused Lady Arunka?
Getting caught up on the past won't help the present situation.
What's important is that we came here to help you.
Is that true, Adin?
Yes. Lua came to the Forsaken Lands to steal Aheldad's power from Yulha.
And she succeeded... Aheldad's power ended up in her hands...
S-So...! Now Yulha has returned to her old self. She's not the same Yulha you knew.
Which is why she was more than willing to come with us to help you.
That means Lua has all of Aheldad's power...
Hmm, no matter how powerful she might be, the fact we have two of the Four Seasons Swords should give us a chance, right?
She has the other two.
But why are you this far south? Isn't Peira coming down from Khan?
The Theranhad army has started marching in from the south as well. I expect Peira and them intend to catch us with a pincer movement.
I left Hwayoung behind, but she won't be able to hold on for long if Peira does show up.
Then leave this place to us and hurry back up to her.
I was relieved to see you guys, but...
I'm not entirely comfortable trusting a Wicked. Even if you claim she's changed.
I'm sorry for everything that happened before.
It doesn't matter. All of us here wish to minimize the damage of the war.
We'll make sure no more problems arise in the Prairie.
I already owe you, Arunka, so I'll take responsibility for anything that happens.
I'm still not completely convinced, but there's no choice. I need all the help I can get.
I'll leave it to you...
Come on, Orte. We're returning north to Hwayoung.
W-Wait for me...!
We'll move south and push back Theranhad as well.
East Prairie, Southern Border
The wind is picking up.
Whatever is to come... It's not going to be pleasant.
What a wasteland. Arky is yet to see a single edible berry.
It's certainly different from the Prairie we're familiar with.
It's slowly losing its life due to its proximity with the Forsaken Lands.
And then it grew more desolate as the Suin here gradually left.
One thing that's for certain is that if you're to survive here for long, you need to be sharp!
You're talking about the lack of food, aren't you?
I see no signs of an enemy camp.
Then where did those soldiers from earlier come from?
They could have been a reconnaissance unit that was sent on ahead. Or they just intended to clean up the remaining Suin.
*trumpeting*
What's that sound?
That's a court instrument of Theranhad.
An instrument...?
Yes, it's used to inform the public that a senior official or a member of the imperial family is about to appear.
Which means the main force of the army is here...?
*trumpeting*
*trumpeting*
...
...A little girl?

Standoff Wilds
It has already been so long since she left, so why is there still no news?
Has Peira changed course?
Can I ask you to do one more thing?
Yes, feel free.
Send troops after Arunka and report back to me about what's going on. If she needs backup, we have to go help.
Understood.
Even if Arunka herself runs into Peira, it won't be an easy fight for her to win.
I'm sure Peira is aware of that too.
Please...
Come find me first, Peira.
...Urk!
To challenge me without knowing your place...you're still quite wet behind the ears, aren't you?
*panting* Don't make me laugh. I can still put up a good fi...
You're struggling just to stay on your feet, yet you have the energy for arrogance?
Your overconfidence and refusal to admit defeat will be the death of you.
Urgh...
Don't hate me, Hwayoung. You brought this upon yourself with your greed.
SMASH!
Aaarrgghhh!
...
Even if it's the distant past now, the memory of that pain is still so vivid.
I can almost feel it...
FWOOSH THWICK
Arrows...! Is Peira finally here?
*battle cry*
Hwayoung! Khan soldiers coming this way!
I'll take the lead. Leave some soldiers here and follow me with the rest.
Understood!
Urk...!
Judging by the design of their clothes, they're some of Peira's elite squad.
Did she send soldiers this way first and go elsewhere? But where?
It can't be far...
...This energy...
Hraaargh!
Ack...!
A Human unsuited for the Prairie. Oh, I think I remember now...
...!?
You'd have been better off living the rest of your days hidden away thanking me for sparing your life.
Peira...
Training Grotto
*panting* *gasping*
SMACK! SMACK!
Since the day I lost the use of both of my hands...and everything I had trained for... I haven't stopped thinking about it. Not for a single moment.
About you...the one who made me into this... That's why I'll never give up!
Raaargh!
I'll take this despair, sadness, and rage, and use it to train my legs until I can kick harder than a lightning strike.
Thought I was dead, didn't you?
Don't worry, I've been living very well. I'm not the type of woman to die like a coward.
I've been waiting for the day when I could finally give you what you deserve.
Unlike some, I don't rely on the power of others. So, brace yourself.
You sure talk a lot, don't you?
I have more important matters to see to. I won't waste too much time with you.
I see you've trained hard since losing the use of your arms.
Your effort is admirable, but you're as graceless as ever.
Talk all you like, I can see you panting...
...So arrogant.
SMACK!
Urk...!
But you can't even back it up...
SMACK!
Argh! Ack...!
It's reminds me a lot of somebody else I once knew.
That's how she got you to follow her, wasn't it?
*crackling*
That's all that hypocrite Arunka ever does. Add worthless little creatures to her collection so she can pretend to be benevolent.
I can see you trembling. You're afraid, aren't you?
How about I rip your leg off this time? I wonder if you'll still be able to carry on living then.
...
That's why I've been holding back as best I can.
STOMP!
Argh...! You...
Make any sudden movements, and your arms will end up just like mine.
It's deeper than it looks.
BOOM
...! You got away!?
*crackling*
I'll have to change my plan...
I'm going to make you writhe in agony until you beg me to kill you.
CRASH!
Hwayoung!
...
I'm sorry I came so late.
I kept our promise.
...
Hwayoung, are you okay!?
I'm...fine... This is nothing...
You're wrong.
...
It's not you that I want. I'm after that thing in your hand.
The Autumn Sword that should have been mine to begin with.
5. Part 5
166 linesGray Wind Road, the Past
...Where did you get such strength?
Oh, right. This must be your first time witnessing the power of the Goblet of Oath.
What!?
You thought it had gone missing, didn't you? So did I. But my kin found it for me.
Even if you don't know what the Goblet of Oath is capable of, I'm sure you've heard of the ceremony it requires.
You didn't... did you?
I did. And it went even better than I had dared hope.
Why? Why have you gone and done this?!
Was it really worth more than anything we had between us?!
Yes, it was.
...
It was important to me.
Parched Wasteland, Present day
*gasping*
*panting* That's enough, Peira.
...
You're outnumbered.
You think I'm alone, don't you?
Bahahaha!... You really haven't changed at all...
Trying to make me do as you please, pretending it's in my best interest.
Thinking you have the right to tell me how I need to live my life.
I never once thought that way.
You acted as if you cared about me. All the while, you were gathering your soldiers and taking the Autumn Sword for your yourself.
You always put your own people first, just like I did. We're the same, you and I.
...
From the moment I completed the Goblet of Oath ritual, I have had only one goal.
To destroy your clan, just like mine was!
FWOOSH
...!
Arunka! Watch out!
BOOM!
Act 5 Regret's End
Sometime earlier, Khan Imperial Palace
Do you have something you wish to say?
I can see that you're struggling. Are the memories of the past still tormenting you?
I hardly think that's any of your business.
Whether or not it is, you have things to do. You are the ruler of Khan after all.
Don't you think you ought to focus on this a bit more?
What are you trying to say?
Take this.
I have no need for your weapons.
This sword is capable of holding the power of the Autumn Sword.
For now, it is little more than a sword with a sharp edge. But with that power, it can become your very own Autumn Sword.
...
You can wield the power that discrimination and hatred robbed from you.
Until that day comes, I'll be here to assist you as best I can.
Arrghhh!
Forgive me, Peira. Think what you will of me, but...
Just as you put the goblet's ritual above all else, I am putting my people first.
*whooshing*
This is...the power of the Autumn Sword...
I-I'm... I'm the master of the Autumn Sword!
*chuckling*
You can never know what the future holds. Even after how strongly your clan opposed it, this power became mine in the end!
They must be turning in their graves.
Peira! If you keep using that power, it will kill you!
BOOM
Argh!
Leave them be, Peira.
Why? Are they your dear comrades?
I think you should apologize for dooming them to such a pointless death.
Oh gosh, I'm tearing up.
A hypocrite until the very end. Do you not realize who is to blame for all this?
If your clan had not trampled all over mine...
Then we wouldn't be standing here like this, and your followers wouldn't need to die.
Are you trying to say this is all my fault?
...
Do you think avenging your clan and taking over the Prairie with that power will bring you happiness?
Have you ever once thought of what you want after this all ends?
CRASH
Ack...
You somehow managed to become even more self-righteous since you took over the Prairie.
But I don't need to listen to you, because I'll be the owner of the Prairie soon enough with this power.
The end is in sight, Arunka.
Yours and mine...
...
It's what I tell you all the time. Ignore what other people may think about you, and just forge your own path.
Don't concern yourself with those cowards who don't even have the guts to face you and have to resort to whispering behind your back.
...I know.
You've said it a million times already. I couldn't forget even if I wanted to. So would you mind not treating me like an idiot?
...*sighing*...
Maybe closing your eyes and letting death's embrace slowly come over you isn't so bad?
But you'd know better than me, Sis...
Runaway's Path
*sighing*
*clinking*...
...
Do you think avenging your clan and taking over the Prairie with that power will bring you happiness?
Have you ever once thought of what you want after this all ends?
CLANG!
Peira?
...Lua.
You finished sooner than I expected. You didn't come out unscathed though, by the look of it.
It's no big deal. I never expected to come out of this unharmed.
What happened to the troops in the rear?
The troops that embarked from Khan were completely wiped out by Arunka's detachment.
By the time I arrived it was already far too late.
But how? There were so many of them...
There was no knowing she had planned this. Arunka seems to have put her all into this.
At this rate, she may soon reach Khan.
...
She looks devastated. Like she lost everything. Though, I guess that's to be expected.
The troops that had been deployed in the rear were her elites. The ones she had picked out and trained herself...
Don't be discouraged. You've gained everything you ever wanted now, haven't you?
Everything I've ever wanted... You mean this sword?
You can always recruit more soldiers. They're nothing compared to that sword in your hand.
She has allowed herself to be rattled by the slightest of blows. She's completely forgotten our goal. These weak and useless creatures are all the same...
There's no need to drag this out any longer. I should finish it quickly.
If this is really all I wanted, then now...
Do you regret it?
*whooshing*
Do you feel guilty about killing your only childhood friend to gain this power?
What are you trying to say?
I'm saying that the Autumn Sword will be of little use in the hands of someone with a will so weak.
What?
BOOM!
Great power waits for those strong enough to wield it.
If all you know is how to swing around a sharp sword, you're likely to feel its cut someday.
From the start...was this all you wanted from me?
There's another way for you to get revenge, and it's surprisingly simple. But you'll need to get your hands on greater power.
But they're so strong. How could I possibly hope to get to their level...?
Power need not always be taken from others. You can generate it yourself.
You don't mean...
That's right, Peira.
You can give yourself new power.
Are you good-natured, or simply a fool? You're willing to backstab others, but can't imagine the same being done to you?
You stupid pup.
PIIIING...!
Argh...!
Now that you've fulfilled your use, there's no need to play nice.
A world for the Wolf Morai? HAHAHA! How idiotic!
No. I have other plans for Natalon.
Khan, the Prairie, Humans and Suin alike. All will be torched until not even ashes remain.
I will succeed where Aheldad failed.
Aheldad?!
PIIIING...!
Ack...!
You were of great help. It's almost a shame I have to kill you.
If not for you, this all would've taken much longer.
SMACK!
...
In death, you can dream to your heart's content about a world for your Wolf Morai.
6. Part 6
115 linesPeira's House, the Past
I often dreamt about those days...
Mama! Papa! Look at all the pretty flowers!
I wasn't buffeted by sandstorms but kissed by soft breezes carrying the scent of flowers.
And when that short dream fades away...
I found the Wolf Morai!
Hmm, is that all of them?
Urk...!
Ahh!
The vivid scenes of my mother and father's deaths, their eyes screaming at me to stay hidden.
But so often as I dreamt, I would feel a warm touch upon my back...
Are you having nightmares again?
...Arunka...
She would look at me with eyes so full of concern...
I guess it makes sense that you have a lot of bad memories. Be careful not to push yourself too hard trying to escape them though.
Was it about your home again? With the flowery breeze?
...Yes. I can't even imagine a place like that anymore.
Do you know what kind of flower this is, Peira?
...It's just a common wildflower.
It may look plain on the outside, but it's more than just a common wildflower. It's a flower that grows, even without water, as long as it has land in which to take root.
These flowers can do that...?
Uh-huh. It can survive a whole month without any water. And when the flower dries up, new seeds grow from its roots.
...
Nothing is impossible, Peira.
As long as her hand was in mine...
I'll help you return life to your old home, just like this flower.
...even the impossible felt possible.
Act 6 What's Left
Traitor's Field, Present Day
Urgh... *coughing*
You were of great help. It's almost a shame I have to kill you.
If not for you, this all would've taken much longer.
*stabbing*
...
In death, you can dream to your heart's content about a world for your Wolf Morai.
Lua... You...
I was tricked again... Like a fool.
Even after everything that's happened to me in the past, I once again put my trust in someone else...
Of course, of course. You've always been smart!
Now look at you. Thrown to the gutter once again.
Peira, you idiot. You're the same stupid girl you've always been.
*blood dripping*
...Gah!...
Khan, the Prairie, Humans and Suin alike. All will be torched until not even ashes remain.
...I can't let it end like this...
I won't let you get what you want!
*panting*
I... I have to find her...
*throbbing*
I won't die... Not until I destroy you like you destroyed me...
They won't stop coming... I'm wasting too much strength on these useless minions.
FWOONG
...
Y-You...!
FWOONG
Please! Please, wait. Can't we talk this out?!
W-What do you...
My death won't end this!
W-Why can I see them...?
Arrrrgh!
Go away!
FWOONG
It's too much, Lady Arunka!
Arunka...?
...
...Arunka!
Lady Arunka!
Calm down, Orte! Have you forgotten what Arunka said?
We shouldn't join in until she tells us to!
B-But...!
Don't worry. Judging by Peira's condition, I don't think she can do much more.
Will it really be okay? Arunka doesn't have her power anymore...
Blood is thicker than water.
But they're not real sisters!
This is what Arunka wants. It's not for us to interfere.
Do you feel better now? After getting what you've wanted for so long...
Can you achieve your dreams now?
Quit it with your preaching. I'm sick to death of your condescension to me.
*spluttering*
Fine, it felt incredible. Enough to know why you were willing to forsake me in order to take it for your own.
...
Seeing as you're fighting as if I'm nothing more than a hallucination, you must think you're winning.
If you're here to kill me and take back the Autumn Sword, you're wasting your time. I don't have that power anymore either.
I'm sure this is what you wanted all along, wasn't it? To have me kneel before you and beg for forgiveness.
But I'm not sorry. Not even a little bit. I'd gladly do it all over again.
...
Haven't you just been waiting to kill me? Well, here's your chance, Arunka! Take it!
...
Can't bring yourself to do it, huh?
Should I do it for you, then? I'll take my own life in front of you, just like my people did.
*SMACK*
None of what you've done has been for your people.
It's all just been your own petty greed.
Your desire for the Goblet of Oath, for the Autumn Sword... It was all your own selfishness!
...
That's why I couldn't let you have the sword.
If inter-clan violence and division begins again, countless will die!
All I care about is protecting the Prairie, Peira. Everyone is waiting desperately for the day when they can once again live in peace.
They dream of a Prairie with no war, no mindless slaughtering, no discrimination.
...
Whatever power I am given, I will not use it for myself. Please, trust me.
I'll help you return life to your old home, just like this flower.
...What are you doing...?
I want to keep that promise I made to you.
If you don't take my hand here, this will drag on without end.
So many more will lose their lives until either you or I die.
...
...
Please. Make your choice, Peira.
7. Part 7
80 linesSometime earlier, Summer Shrine, Theranhad
You seem uncomfortable about something, Shaman. Is there an issue with the send-off ceremony?
Why do you have such a sad look on your face when Theranhad is on the cusp of regaining its former glory?
It's nothing really. I'm just worried that you'll be in danger again.
Have you seen what's coming?
...I can't see any glimpses of the future concerning you, but... I saw Natalon engulfed in war.
The vision was so vivid... I thought it was actually happening.
Don't worry. Zahhak will never break the promise he made to me.
Without me, he cannot achieve what he desires most, so he won't do anything to endanger me.
...If you say so, Your Majesty.
Act 7 Young Shaman
Southern Camp, Present Day
I guess Theranhad puts even children to work in the palace.
Aither is king of Ezera. I'm not sure it's to do with age...
Angelica looks young too, but she's High Priestess of the Blue Cross.
...Good points.
You stationed troops in the Prairie to stop Zahhak?
He's leading troops to the Prairie of his own accord. He wants to take the Autumn Sword for himself.
Many Suin soldiers had already lost their lives by the time we arrived.
I'm sure they must believe it is Theranhad that is attacking the Prairie, just like you did...
But the emperor has no reason to do so.
Zahhak is the emperor's top advisor. Surely, he acts under the mandate of the crown?
Zahhak brought the emperor to Theranhad so that he could have a puppet under his control.
But when Zio refused to do as he wanted, he joined hands with Lua and began preparing for war.
So we've come to the Prairie to stop him.
Are you here to stop Zahhak as well?
And you've gone so far as to ally with the Wicked...
You got a problem with that!?
You can't deal with them on your own anyway. Two of the Four Seasons Swords are in their hands.
If we want to improve our chances of stopping them, we have to work together.
Where is the emperor right now?
Yulha... Don't you think that girl looks more like an empress than a shaman?
An empress...?
Yeah! Of course, as a shaman of the imperial palace, it's natural she would assist the throne...but still...
The shamans of Theranhad have always been close to the crown.
She's a descendant of the pilgrims who helped found Theranhad. We've had emperors for generations, so it's only natural.
I see...
I do have one question.
What would that be?
How did someone so young and meek become emperor?
Whether he had Zahhak's support or not, opposition must have been intense.
...
On the final day of the previous emperor's funeral, there was a clash over the throne.
It was a day stained by the greed and blood of many heirs.
I saw it coming, and did what I could to stop it, but...
Summer Shrine, Pessimism Plaza
Zio!
...Sharun?
Why did you come here? I was waiting for you at the place we promised!
Argh, it doesn't matter! Just come with me! Now!
...It's too late.
What?
It's too late to escape.
With all the other candidates eliminated, Zio was the only one left to ascend the throne.
Zahhak had it all planned out from the start.
So that he could control Zio through fear.
...What use is seeing the future if I can do nothing to stop it from happening.
But that has always been the burden the shamans of Theranhad have had to bear...
Wait, but haven't you joined forces with us in an attempt to do exactly that?
...Hmm?
Judging from what you're telling us, the future isn't looking good for Theranhad or the emperor.
But there is still some small hope left in your heart, which is why you came to us.
...
I think that hope is enough to change the future.
From wherever you stand right now, you can make a change. And even the smallest of changes can lead to an entirely new future.
The emperor of Theranhad has a very capable shaman.
You dare tell me what to do? A mere shaman!?
Now is not the time. You have to be more cautious! If Your Majesty goes now, you may perish...!
I heard you were a pilgrim talented at foresight, so I employed you as my shaman.
But all you have done is lead me to miss opportunity after opportunity with your constant warnings of danger!
I'm beginning to doubt you have any talent for precognition at all.
He thinks I'm a capable shaman...? I think this "gift" of foresight has been of little use.
I'm just a pathetic girl incapable of changing the future, struggling fruitlessly to make up for past mistakes.
...
The future, it...
I can see the Theranhad army camp!
Wait, Arky!
...cannot be so easily changed.
8. Part 8
88 linesAct 8 Guilt and Responsibility
Twisted Plain
Honestly, this seems a little excessive even for stopping Zahhak.
Right... The entire southern end of the Prairie is full of Theranhad soldiers.
Is Sharun here? His Majesty is growing more anxious the longer this drags on...
That's the emperor...?
Is there something in the water up there that makes everyone so young?
Don't be ridiculous, Arky.
It's possible!
You aren't the first to have such an impression of me. I'm aware I do not fit into the typical image of an emperor.
But I am certain that nobody cares more about the future of Theranhad than I do.
I see you brought the master of the Winter Sword with you.
Zahhak was always keen on having it for himself...
You know me?
Of course, Zahhak has told me much about you.
A man he once considered a close companion and friendly rival.
But with whom he will never be able to reconcile.
If you do not break the bond of a strong relationship quickly, it will eventually become a chain that binds you.
Neither of you could have known a moment of weakness and hesitation would bring about all this.
I, too, could never have imagined that my complacency towards Zahhak would lead to where we are today.
...
Ran...
I'm not trying to blame you. Merely asking you to do what you can to turn the clock back.
My own weakness made me into his victim as well.
But I refuse to be swayed by Zahhak any longer. I will protect Theranhad.
Do you know where he is now?
A spy of ours has spread false information concerning the Autumn Sword. He will halt his northward march and return south.
We will lure him to this point on the map. Once he is here, there will be no way out if we surround him.
Knowing him, he'll find a way out regardless, so we will need to be extremely careful about how we deploy the troops.
We'd better tell Arunka about the situation here as well.
They all think that Theranhad is attacking the Prairie with Zahhak.
We will need to combine our strength with Arunka's if we're to have any hope against both Lua and Zahhak.
*whooshing*
...The Winter Sword is reacting to something.
...The Summer Sword... Zahhak must be nearby.
...
Will you be okay, Ran?
I have no qualms about facing him.
I'll ensure no more damage is caused by this bond I was unable to break.
To you, or to Theranhad.
...
Let's go.
Hmm...
I see you brought the master of the Winter Sword with you.
Zahhak was always keen on having it for himself...
Is something wrong, Ras?
Earlier, when we meet the emperor, I felt a strange energy... Though only faintly...
So this is how it feels. There is no longer a sense of longing, no more insecurity.
I am no longer just one of the mundane alter egos, I have arrived at my own echelon of power!
It wasn't unlike the energy Lua radiated after absorbing Yulha's power. But still different somehow...
It's hard to be sure, but the more I think about it, the more uncomfortable I feel...
*rumbling*...
W-What was that!?
It came from the Theranhad camp! Why would there be an explosion there...?
Zahhak could be attacking. Maybe he hopes to take out the emperor while we're away.
No... He's somewhere close by. He must have split up his forces and ambushed the camp.
Adin, go back with everyone else and protect the emperor.
But...
I have to face Zahhak. It's me and the Winter Sword that he wants, after all.
But you can't do it alone! What if he takes the sword from you...?
That won't happen. He can't fully master the Summer Sword.
Are you sure?
Just as you wished to resolve the issue between you and Taeyou by yourself, this is something I must do alone.
BOOM!
...! There's black smoke!
There's no time, Adin. I'll leave this to you.
...All right.
Urk...!
*collapsing*
...
VWOOOONG
It's reacting more strongly. Is he here?
CRUNCH CRUNCH
...
I wasn't expecting you to come alone. Are you here as some kind of noble sacrifice?
I guess that's something you and Amid have in common.
...
I am not here to sacrifice myself, but to offer one final act of mercy to an old friend.
Ending you with my own hand is all I can do.
What a foolish thing to say. I don't need your mercy.
You'll regret not bringing your friends with you.
They won't even know where you're buried.
9. Part 9
104 linesAct 9 A Ruse
Theranhad Camp, Perilous Knoll
It's all burning!
Same over here. There's nobody left...
Did Zahhak's forces already drag them all away?
I don't think so. They would have tried buying time for the emperor to escape. If we spread out and search nearby...
SHWOOP!
Adin!
Argh!
Why did they come back?
Who cares why!? If the plan goes awry, we just have to complete the mission.
All units, prepare for battle! Kill them all! That's an imperial order!
Why are the Theranhad army attacking us?
But what do they mean by "imperial order"? We were only just talking with the emperor. We all agreed to help each other...
...No...
I see you brought the master of the Winter Sword with you.
Zahhak was always keen on having it for himself...
He lied to us! He wanted to lure us towards Zahhak!
We have to go help Ran! That must be where the bulk of their troops are!
We can't do that with these guys in our way. Don't worry, I'll deal with them!
I don't think there's enough of us!
CRASH!
Don't you think you guys are a little late?!
Lady Arunka!
FWOONG
Hmph, how ridiculous.
Ahhhh...!
Peira...!? Why is she fighting alongside Arunka!?
The Suin are attacking the Theranhad soldiers! Now Arky knows why this place is such a mess!
*rumbling*...
What's going on? No, that isn't important...
There's no time to stand around. I need to go find Ran!
You'll need help.
What?
I'll go with you. You won't be able to deal with them on your own.
*rumbling*
Come on, we have to hurry.
Ran...!
It's pandemonium. They must be nearby.
Ack...!
*sighing*...
Ran! Are you okay!?
Ack...!
He sure doesn't look okay to me...
D-Did he... The Winter Sword...?
...
Rich coming from the fool who allowed it to be stolen in the first place.
Zahhak...
CRASH
I can't bear to watch you ruin yourself and sully the Summer Sword any longer.
CRASH!
Urk...
VWOOOONG
Ack...!
Zahhak! Enough!
You know as well as I do what happens when someone who is not the sword's rightful master attempts to use its power!
It doesn't matter.
Just because the power within the sword rejects me doesn't mean I can't make use of it.
FWOOSH
BOOM!
The dark energy is much stronger than in the Winter Sword...
You finally worked out how I am able to wield it, huh?
Many sacrifices were necessary to get the Summer Sword in my hands.
Just as Amid's sacrifice made so many things clear to me...
...!?
Now's my chance...!
Enough!
CRASH
*clinking*...
The Winter...Sword...
You made all of that fuss about this not being the optimal location, yet you got it over and done with in no time.
Zio broke his promise.
And what promise would that be?
Before I even arrived, he was planning to trick them and attack me.
If I was any later, he'd have taken the Summer Sword.
He used Ran's good-for-nothing sense of honor to lure me out here alone.
Hmm, then I suppose the emperor considers you to be of no more use to him.
...
Preparations are now complete with that old friend of yours finally dead.
Hurry up and leave. I don't want to drag this out any longer.
...
...
Ran!
How do we stop them now...?
KABOOM!
Pull yourself together. Now is not the time to lose yourself to despair.
We have to go help our comrades back at the camp.
...She's right. They're all in danger.
I'll protect Ran with the Sphere of Sadism. We can't take too long, I'm sure they'll already be on their last legs.
10. Part 10
195 linesEast Prairie, Border with Theranhad
Judging by the fire and smoke coming from our camp, the Prairie Suin must have attacked.
This isn't how I expected things to happen... Oh well, it makes no real difference.
Did Zahhak do his job properly?
...Pfft.
Zio...?
There's nothing to worry about. They have all of the Four Seasons Swords in their hands.
How do you know that...?
...
If Zahhak was defeated and lost the Summer Sword, they would have come back.
Whether they worked out our plan, or were stupidly trying to protect us...
But seeing as they haven't, or are being prevented from doing so, that means they've lost the most dangerous sword.
...I see.
Zahhak would have followed her as he intended. But...
I have a question.
Yes?
Zahhak wanted to use you to accomplish his own goals. What was it you promised him?
I don't understand why you would come somewhere so dangerous for him.
He never told me the promise...
You will find out soon enough.
...
Anyway, it was my choice to leave the palace. I've been wondering about these people who have been wandering all over Natalon.
They're certainly different than the others.
There's something I need you to do for me.
Yes, Your Majesty?
Both Lua and Zahhak are so focused on the Four Seasons Swords that they won't clean up the mess.
They don't have enough time, and our plans seem to have changed.
So... if you don't finish these people off here and now, there will definitely be problems down the road.
If they realize I've tricked them, they might come to the palace and threaten me.
We should snuff out any embers before they can become a real problem.
Act 10 Memories of Chaos
Final Wilderness
Arghh!
Uck!
*panting*
Are you really getting tired already after all your big talk?
Argh!
Orte!
She really is a handful.
Are you okay?
Yes...! There was just so many of them coming at me all of a sudden...
*shaking*
...Huh?
*shaking*
Run away!
What's up with them?
Are they retreating?
*rumbling*
Ahhhh!
I-Isn't that a snake?!
Ahhhh!
It's eating them...!
Lady Arunka!
You're back! Where's Ran...? Oh!
...Is he dead?
What?! Now what do we do!?
*rumbling*
I'll leave him to you, Yulha.
Wait!
Adin! No! Don't come too close!
FWOONG
...
Sharun...?
Sharun!?
So you were lying to us. After all we were doing for you...!?
Why are you doing this? If war comes to Natalon, Theranhad won't be safe either!
How impressive that you were all able to survive such an onslaught.
But I'm not here to listen to you crying about betrayal.
...!?
I knew you wouldn't be easy to deal with, but I didn't imagine you'd be quite so stubborn.
BOOM!
You're all gathered in one place, including the Suin. How convenient.
I will deal with everyone all at once.
To ensure there are no more threats to Zio or Theranhad.
Urgh...
I don't have the strength to keep fighting...
But if I don't eliminate them, Zio will be in danger...
Why did you lie to us?! What do you gain from siding with Zahhak!?
If Natalon falls, Theranhad will be next! How do you not realize that!?
I will not question His Majesty's will.
I am his shaman. I have vowed to give my life to assist him.
It is my duty to do as he commands, even if I do not understand his intentions.
And if misfortune falls upon the palace because of me...
...?!
Then I won't hesitate to forfeit my life.
Adin!
...?!
Even the smallest light will banish the darkness.
There is no darkness in this world that can cover the light.
That smallest of lights will illuminate the shrouded truth.
Foresight...?
Yes. All those things you see and dream about are due to your ability to foresee the future.
But what's the point?
So that you may assist the emperor of Theranhad.
For generations, us pilgrims have lived to help the emperor and Theranhad.
In the face of many wars and countless difficulties, we have protected this land.
And now, that duty falls to you.
Zahhak... Zio... Why are you doing this?
It would be such a waste to kill someone with your gift...
What...? This isn't how I remember that day!
With a little work, you may be a useful tool.
That smallest of lights will illuminate the shrouded truth.
The hidden truth...
...!?
We'll need some cloth to stem the bleeding!
SMACK!
Ack...!
Adin!
*panting*
KABOOM!
What truth has been hidden from me?
After Sharun Left, Field of Thought
They have all of the Four Seasons Swords.
There's only one place they'll be heading to now...
And where's that?
The Land of the Wicked, where Amid is sealed away.
Once that seal is broken, nothing will be able to stop what's coming.
Then we just need to beat them there. We have plenty of Wicked willing to help us.
Do you think it's okay for us to go with them...?
I wasn't keen on her at first, but she really has been invaluable.
If I may ask even more of you, please help us again...
...
Are you really okay, Ran?
I couldn't understand you and your insistence on chasing after Taeyou again and again.
Preparations are complete now that that old friend of yours is finally dead.
Hurry up and leave. I don't want to drag this out any longer.
...
We should be able to find medicinal herbs on the way.
Thank you.
You're a lot weaker than the last time I saw you. Even the kid is worried about you now.
It doesn't suit those big muscles of yours, so hurry up and pull yourself together.
*rumbling*
What was that...?
Look over there!
Isn't Khan in that direction? Why is it...rising into the sky...?
This is what they were planning.
Sorry?
Lua installed something strange below the palace and built a bunch of suspicious structures all over Khan.
I asked her why, but all she did was smile...
She told me it was all part of the back-up plan in case we fail.
...I knew she was up to something when she started working on that eyesore...
Are you referring to the structure in the central area?
Yeah, she's been making people build that monstrous mechanical structure for years now.
We've been sending people from our outpost to destroy it, but we haven't quite managed to do it yet.
So you don't know what that structure is for?
An information broker told me that it's some kind of transmitting device that absorbs and activates magic flowing throughout Khan.
Peira had it built so that she could channel power to the Suin and finally gain total control over the Humans.
We've been taking every measure to make sure that doesn't happen.
I see... So those structures were meant to make the city float.
If it falls from that height, it's not just Natalon, but the entirety of Orbis that could be in danger.
There must be a way to stop it.
Take Peira with you.
Ah... But is that a good idea? I don't think the human resistance will be happy to see her show up.
Considering what's going on, I'm not sure they'll have time to worry about that.
And whatever does happen, Peira will sort it out.
I don't want to go with you either.
But Kahn is my land. I have to protect it.
I've already sent people to figure out the cause. Perhaps they found a solution.
Yesterday's enemy is today's ally? Arky isn't sure he likes this...
How far is the land of the Wicked from here?
There's a little-known shortcut that should get us there before them.
Of course, if we run into Beehoo on the way, it will be a whole other story...
Then we should get going. There's no time to waste.
...
So... it doesn't matter to you whether they are your own kin or not? Is this really how you plan to achieve stability?
We've been left with no other choice. These meddlesome obstacles will only cause us to stumble on our path, leading to uncertainty, and ultimately our fall.
...
For a long time, you and I haven't seen eye to eye. I had no expectation that I would convince you to take another path.
But I hoped you might at least listen. When it has mattered, we have always stood side by side.
Even if our values were different, our duties and the goal towards which we strived have been one and the same. I thought we might be able to compromise like we always used to.
I see now, even that hope was folly.
...I never imagined we would be reunited this way.
What will you say to me when we see each other again...?
CHAPTER 8 Regrets and Decisions END
11. True Alliance
221 linesPath of Memories
...
Why are you walking so awkwardly?
I can't deny that...
But there's nothing else to do in a situation like this. Not when there's something so much more important than our feelings going on.
We need to refocus our priorities for a while. Hmm...
How are you so sure they didn't take the Winter Sword?
No matter what happened, we can't simply give up. We have to do whatever we can.
Isn't that why you agreed to work with me?
That was only because I have a goal of my own to achieve.
Right, we need each other right now.
Lady Arunka...
Mm?
...
Can we really trust Peira...?
She could betray you again at any time. The only reason she's even here is because she came to kill us.
...
Orte has a point. Just because you have nothing more to lose doesn't mean you can afford to be careless.
No matter your shared history, she's the one who brought war to the Prairie.
You need to be prepared for the worst.
HIDDEN STORY True Ally
With your hands tied so tightly, you won't be able to attack anyone while we're moving.
All of us, including Arunka, reached this decision together, so I trust you won't have any complaints?
Is this your way of getting back at me for crippling your arms?
What, you mean those kicks you got in earlier? Pfft, you're just trying to make yourself feel better for not being able to beat me.
I promised not to kill you. That's the most I could do considering the circumstances.
...
I thought a lot about doing to you what you did to me.
But in the end, I realized I didn't really want that.
Killing you wouldn't have healed my hands or made my heart any lighter.
The tendon in your ankle was severed. It will take a long time to heal.
And even once it does, it's likely it won't be the same as it used to be. You'll have to completely retrain yourself like I did.
This is the best revenge I can get without feeling guilty.
Really... The two of you must get off on acting so self-righteous...
Think whatever you like. I just wanted to show that I'm not the same as you.
Whether you think I'm a hypocrite or not...
Is no concern to me.
...
Did Suin used to live here? I've never seen this place before...
It is very remote...
You know this place?
There were some who missed their old homes in the Prairie after arriving in Khan.
Some of them returned to stay here.
They would pass on news of the Prairie. But I haven't heard from them in quite a while...
Inside the Wolf Morai Camp
Nothing has been used recently.
I'll stay here and protect our home.
There's nothing left for us in this land. There are only painful memories here.
Even so, it's where we grew up, and what we tried so hard to protect.
Remember, no matter how far you go, we will always be here.
One day, that will be a great comfort to you.
Healing Hill
*sighing* It's getting difficult to walk with my injuries.
Do you need some rest?
For what?
I know I told you not to kill her until I was back, but I could hardly blame you if you did.
Knowing what she'd done to you...I had no right to ask you to make that promise.
...
You didn't ask that just for Peira's sake, but for mine too.
I didn't want to lose a friend either, just for the sake of making myself feel better.
That is enough for me. You don't have to be sorry.
And I trust you'll give me a handsome reward to show just how thankful you are.
You can have anything you want from me! Just ask, Ah!
Focus on getting better for now. Nobody wants to see the owner of the Prairie in this state.
Yeah, you're right...
Is Lady Arunka sleeping...?
It seems like she's really struggling. Have you had a look around?
...I couldn't find anything useful. There's barely any living vegetation to begin with.
If it wasn't for Peira, Arunka wouldn't be hurt at all...
There's no need to worry. I was able to treat the worst of her wounds.
Are you just going to leave it at that?
We can't exactly carry her the whole way...
Why? Do you want to be with her?
No! I'm just worried she might do something again!
Like what? Even if she wasn't tied up, we outnumber her.
Huh?
How can you be so carefree when you lost so much because of her!?
...
S-Sorry... I'm just really worked up...
You know about that?
I heard you and Lady Arunka talking once...
You did, did you? That wasn't really any of your business...
I get that it might be hard to understand, and why it would concern you...
But this is all I can do for now. I don't want to ruin my relationship with Arunka.
Plus, I think it's best to do what the owner of the Prairie wants.
Orte!
Watch your mouth you stupid girl!
I probably upset Hwayoung...didn't I?
Of course, I did! How could she not be upset after I brought that up?!
*sighing* Lady Arunka will probably be angry too when she finds out...
I don't want to disappoint her again! Ughhh!
Anyway, there are more important things to worry about right now. I need to find some herbs...
*rushing footsteps*
...Footsteps?
Are Peira's followers coming to free her...?
Those are definitely Khan uniforms!
They won't know that Arunka and Peira have reconciled!
SMACK
Ahh!
Lilka! She's one of Arunka's!
Wait! I need to tell you something!
...Hmph.
SMACK!
Why should I care about anything you have to say? If you're only going to beg for your life, don't waste your breath.
...Peira?
You're all from Khan!
Scent...?
...This is Peira's scent. But why is it coming from you...?
Are you saying I stink?!
You met with Peira...and survived? That make no sense!
Peira and Arunka are together right now.
What?
It's not complicated! She surrendered to Arunka, and now we have her tied up.
So, if you want to see your precious Peira, you need to surrender too and follow me.
As if it wasn't bad enough you sullied Peira's name with your mouth, now you slander her!?
You'll pay for that!
You're really not a good listener, are you?
Reunion Wilds
Why is Orte still not back yet? Surely she isn't lost...
I can't leave Arunka here to look for her either...
Where's the kid with the big mouth?
She went looking for herbs...
She seemed pretty useless, is it okay to let her walk around on her own?
...
...Ah, because you couldn't leave me unsupervised.
Exactly. You can't be trusted.
If something really has happened to that girl...
She's not really much use for anything. Aren't we better off without her?
Watch your mouth. She might be a little clumsy, but she's been by Arunka's side for a long time now.
She'd never dream of betraying her, either.
Regardless of how capable she is, it's good for Arunka to have someone like her.
...
Ugh...
Ah, you're awake? How are you feeling?
Not much better, to be honest. Where's Orte?
I was about to go looking for her. She went to look for medicinal herbs but still hasn't come back.
How could you let her walk off on her own!? It's dangerous out the, Ack!
I'll go find her now. You stay here and rest some more.
No, I should be the one to go...
She'll definitely come running if she hears my voice. We'll find her in no time.
*panting* Where on Orbis is she?!
Wait... This scent is familiar...
It started off faint, but it keeps getting stronger. We must be near.
Huh? I don't smell anything...?
CRASH!
That way!
Hmph, you're all bark and no bite! I've fought tougher opponents in my sleep!
Fine, I'll stop going easy on you!
You stupid mutt!
Orte!
Lilka!
Lady Arunka!?
Lady P-Peira...!?
I didn't think you would be coming here...
Forgive me. I know you did not order us to come here, but we were worried...
No, it's fine. I feel a lot better seeing you here.
...I'm glad.
Oh, come on! She attacked me first!
She might be acting timid now, but she was trying to kill me just a moment ago!
She looks quite harmless to me...?
It's okay, Orte. I can't blame you for being overly cautious.
But it really isn't like that!
...Lua betrayed me.
...She betrayed you!?
She took the Autumn Sword for herself. I was tricked...
Now Khan itself is in danger.
Did anything unusual happen while I was away...?
Well... When I was in the West, I noticed there were sporadic earthquakes of varying intensities near the structure that Lua built.
Earthquakes...?
While trying to determine the cause, I realized something strange... It seemed to be related to the device under the palace.
I saw the blueprint once before, but I didn't think much of it back then.
I was going to try and find out more before things got any worse...
But I thought that coming here to save you should be my first priority.
Please forgive me.
...
It's not as if you could have done much to stop it on your own.
I have new orders for you.
Find out the purpose of Lua's structure and how to prevent anything abnormal from happening.
If anyone can do it, it's you.
...Peira...
I'll join up with you once I'm finished here.
Can you send her off on her own like that? She's just a kid...
She might look young, but she's the only one I can trust to get the job done.
She'll hang in there just fine until I catch up with her.
I'm glad you still have someone you can trust...
...
And yet...there's nothing... I'm all alone.
No, I'm not...
We have to hurry, we've already lost enough time.
Hmph, and whose fault is that?
Yours, you dumb kid. No more running off on your own now, got it?
...Okay.

Sand Wind Hill
Are we there yet?
Just a little farther...
That's what you said last time!
S-Sorry... It's hard to move quickly while avoiding attention...
I heard it used to be beautiful... Did you ever see it back then?
If not for those damned Wicked, it would've been our Shangri-la.
But we'll return to those days soon, right?
The Swamp and Stone Tribe, living on the Prairie in peace...
Only after we drag Arunka out of the Prairie first. Got it?
Y-Yes!
Anyway, you're not leading me somewhere you're not supposed to, are you?
Don't forget, no matter how injured I look I could still snap you like a twig.
I-I would never...!
We were all preparing in the hopes that you would be okay.
We're all just so happy to see you safe and sound, sir.
Shut up and just show me the way.
O-Okay...!
*sighing* What have I been reduced to...?
You shouldn't waste your energy screaming.
Keep an eye on him. He can cause problems at any time.
Tie them all up, and keep guard over them with Orte when she returns.
I'm going to find Arunka.
Understood!
Huh? When did the rope...
SPLAT!
Now!
If it wasn't for that darn Human, I could have ended Arunka there and then...
Or if Lua hadn't betrayed me!
Just you wait! I'll maul every one of you to shreds!
Swamp and Stone Tribe Temporary Camp
We're here.
Where is everyone else?
I'm sure they're off trying to find food for you.
Januta! You're all right!
All right...?
Huh?
You...!
*flinching*
We were all preparing in the hopes that you would be okay.
We're all just so happy to see you safe and sound, sir.
*sighing* Calm down... There are too few of us as it is...
What's wrong with him? It's not like him to stifle his anger like that...
Do I seem "all right" to you?! I was captured by Arunka's lackeys and had to fight by way out on my own!?
While you all just carry on with your lives?!
But if we'd all been captured too, we wouldn't have been able to rescue you...
I'm sorry...
Where is everyone else?
M-Most of them died...that day...
We haven't heard anything about where the others went. We're all that's left of our own unit, at least.
Whatever. We have more important things to do then stand around here procrastinating.
We need to regroup our forces and deal with Arunka.
I won't stop until Arunka, Hwayoung, and Lua are knelt before me begging for their lives.
Roaring Wilds
It's been days, and...nothing.
Not hide nor hair of a single Suin or Human. And hardly a bite to eat.
I knew it wouldn't be easy to recruit troops in the middle of this wasteland, but this is even worse than expected.
This place used to be so green and full of life...
Arunka will never get what's coming for her at this rate!
CRASH
There he goes again...
Tsk. The home of the Wolf Morai was no better.
Speaking of which... I'd heard there were still some of them living here...
But I haven't seen any at all?
I'm sure they'd be more than happy to fight Arunka with us!
J-Januta! Up ahead! Wolf Morai...!
Aha, they finally show their snouts?
...Nng... Help...
They don't look like they're doing very well...
Let's get closer.
SLASH
Ugh!
That'll be no more trouble from them!
...
These Humans dare step foot on our precious Prairie?!
Some people really don't value their own lives!
Januta...!
Is that the last of them?
Yes, I don't see any others.
*rustling*
But why is the Theranhad army this far north?
Why else?
Because this is what happens when you leave someone like Arunka in charge of the Prairie!
...
I don't like this. Why would Theranhad suddenly start marching north?
Is there going to be another war...?
A Few Minutes Later
Hmm... What should I do?
Should we use these Humans as cover to pretend to join forces with Arunka?
No... That will only help her.
Then how about...
What if we helped Theranhad get rid of Arunka, and negotiate from there to...?
No! Humans cannot be trusted!
...
But as much as I hate to deal with them, that is probably the best way for us to take the Prairie back.
Hey! You!
Y-Yes, sir?!
If you come across any more of these Human filth, bring them to me.
I have a proposal for their leader.
Repentance Field
What's taking them so long? They've been out there looking for forever!
Useless! The whole lot of them.
Tsk. The wrong ones survived...
...They haven't defected, have they!?
But it really doesn't make any sense... Why would they bring me east?
It doesn't take a genius to know this entire area is desolate.
...
A Few Days Earlier
What about Januta?
He's asleep.
What're you making that face for?
I'm glad to see him come back alive, but...
I'm not convinced he really has the Swamp and Stone Tribe's best interests at heart anymore.
Where's this coming from?
He says he's doing this all for our sakes, but when it comes down to it, he's only interested in taking Arunka's position.
And? Hasn't he always been like that?
I just think, if Januta became owner of the Prairie...things might actually get worse.
Then what do you suggest? Without Januta, there's nobody that everyone can unite behind.
All we can do for now is keep following him and hope for the best.
Something about them rubbed me the wrong way from the start. I was just waiting for the right moment to give them an earful...
Hmph. If you want a job done right, you're better off doing it yourself.
And if they really are up to something, I'd rather kill them myself.
*panting*
...Why do I feel this way?
The rage I felt thinking about their possible betrayal...is turning into anxiety.
Where is everyone else?
M-Most of them died...that day...
We haven't heard anything about where the others went. We're all that's left of our own unit, at least.
*rustling*
...!?
J-Januta...
You...!
You have to...get away...!
*collapsing*
This way!
...Urk!
...
Ack!
...
*coughing*
You're awake!?
I'm sorry... I wanted to do a good job...
Don't talk! Just conserve your energy!
Januta... You have to survive...
And give our people...the life they deserve...
SLUMP
But we'll return to those days soon, right?
The Swamp and Stone Tribe, living on the Prairie in peace...
...
A few hours later...
*shoveling*
At least you can all rest together here...
One day, when the Prairie is green again, I'll come back and take you there.
...
Do not feel sad at the setting of the sun. Rejoice, for it will soon rise again.
Beneath its glorious rays, the Swamp and Stone Tribe will flourish on a Prairie reborn.
And gentle winds will guide your souls to rest in the blue skies.
...Goodbye.
I won't let you down.
...
I'll need to meet with Arunka.
There's no use taking the Prairie back if it's infested with parasites.
HIDDEN STORY New Resolve END
13. Trace of the Past
771 linesBroad Wind Plateau, Encounter Meadow
Weird... They were supposed to be here by now...
Did I come to the wrong place? No, no, this is definitely the place...
Could they just... not be bothered to come?
I wouldn't put it past them. I swear, the next time I see them I'll...
You'll what? Give us some nice souvenirs from your travels?
Ah! Dana! Umm, no... I don't have any souvenirs...
Haha! I was only teasing, you little cutie. Now hurry up and give your big sister a hug!
Ack... I can't breathe... Let go...
There's no need to be shy. We haven't seen each other in so long, showing a little affection is normal!
Where's Kina? She's always complaining about people being late, yet she's no better...
I mean, not that I particularly care if I see her anyway...
Hmph, I feel the same way about you!
Kina!...You're late. What took you so long?
The contacts I was travelling with suddenly disappeared on the way here...
So, you got lost without someone to show you the way? This is why I always say you should get out more.
Oh please! It just took me a little while to regain my bearings, that's all. Wait...you're the one who sent them my way, weren't you?
I should have known better than to trust you. They were so useless and irresponsible... You chose them deliberately to annoy me, didn't you?!
N-Not at all! I thought they seemed like good people, and quick-witted too!
Then why did they just abandon me in the middle of nowhere?! I helped them so much on the way here!
Pfft, if you say so... I'm sure they just ran away because they couldn't put up with your bad temper anymore!
You want to say that again!?
Oh no... At this rate, they'll be arguing all day long...
W-Wait! Don't you think it's a bit strange?
You're darn right it is! Dana's no saint herself, yet she's always nagging me...
I'm not talking about her! I mean Vena. She's usually so punctual, but she still hasn't shown up...
Hey, that's a good point. Maybe all this time away from her cute baby sister has made her lazy?
Vena? Lazy? Ha, as if! We're talking about the girl plans her days out to the second.
She'd never be late like this unless something stopped her from coming...
HIDDEN STORY Vestiges of the Past
Judging by her recent letters, Vena has been spending a lot of time in the Human village lately.
Hopefully, we can find her there.
Humans live out here too? I thought only Suin that fled the war lived out here.
They're very isolated, so not many people know about them. They migrated here from Theranhad.
This is my first time hearing about them... Where did you learn all of this?
It was in Vena's letters...
You think Kina ever reads any of those? Anyway, let's not hang around for too long, Human-Suin relations have been even worse than usual lately...
I sure don't want to get dragged into any trouble.
Anyway, how have you both been? Since that contact disappeared, I haven't heard from either of you in a while...
You know the life of an information broker. It's basically the same day-to-day. Just living my life quietly among the Humans...
I have a subordinate who doesn't try to pick fights and does what I ask, so that's nice. They can be a little tactless though, which is a pain.
You're just enjoying yourself somewhere nice while your younger sisters struggle in faraway lands.
Ah... I'm fine, though. Sure, there's a lot of conflict between Humans and Suin, but it's not so bad...
Stop lying. You never shut up about how hard a time you're having in your letters.
Still, sounds a lot more fun than standing around guarding old ruins in the middle of nowhere like me.
If anything...isn't Vena the one who has it hardest? She needs to organize all of the information we send her.
I hear she has been given some extra duties by Beehoo as well. Have either of you two heard anything about it...?
I'm as clueless as you. Now that you mention him, I can hardly even remember the last time I saw Beehoo.
Same... Being so close by but unable to meet makes it even more frustrating...
Everyone wants to finish their work so they can get back to Beehoo...
Shadow Mountain, Starving Hill, the Past
...You wanted to see us?
Do you have something to tell us? If that's the case, you could have asked to see just me...
Why would he want to be alone with you? Me, on the other hand...
Hahaha! Well, I originally intended to visit you each individually, but I was advised it would be best to speak to you all together.
You see... I need the three of you to gather information from across the continent for me.
We need eyes on the outside world so we can prepare for possible threats.
As you know, I can't leave this place myself. So I'm leaving it up to you, people I can trust.
Of course, we're happy to do what you ask of us... Though, this means we'll have to leave.
Where's Vena?
Ah, I met with her earlier. I expect she has already left Shadow Mountain...
Why did she get to meet you alone, but not us?!
Why did you speak with Vena alone?
Please explain yourself!
Broad Wind Plateau, Encounter Meadow, Present Day
Beehoo was so flustered...
I should have calmed things down, but I got carried away as well. It's embarrassing to think about...
Whatever, the past is in the past. There's no sense getting hung up on it. We just need to do a good job with what we were asked.
True, there must be a reason Beehoo chose us siblings...
It's weird that Kina's the one being reasonable...
You what!? I'm always reasonable!
Heh, right... Anyway! According to the map, we should be arriving in the Suin region soon.
If we run into any, we'll leave them to you. Dana and I don't know anything about Suin...
We're relying on you, Lona!
Broad Wind Plateau, Empty Suin Village
By the looks of it, the Suin who lived here must've left a while ago.
It doesn't seem like they stayed here long. The tracks suggest they went east.
...
Why do you look so worried? Isn't it good that we haven't crossed paths with any of them?
I know... But according to what Vena sent us, it takes a lot to convince Suin to leave their home like this...
I'm sure there is a good reason. This place is close to the eastern edge of the Prairie...
Were they fleeing from Theranhad's northward advance?
You know about that?
I'm an information broker too, remember? Even stuck in the middle of nowhere, it's hard to avoid big news like that.
Still, the war shouldn't be having an impact this far out.
I don't know, I hear Khan is marching south too. Maybe it's going to be bigger than we expected.
The Suin around here don't get along well with those on the Prairie. Maybe they thought it's better to be safe than sorry...
Don't move!
Huh? Who said that?
Who else? The Suin who surrounded us while we were busy chatting...
I'm not clueless like you two.
There's something weird about them, Orte...
A Human...a Suin...AND a Wicked!
I see that. That's why I want to capture them.
Oops... I didn't realize we were each in different forms...
I've been in this form for so long I'd completely forgotten. I guess the three of us being together like this can lead to confusion...
Ugh, what a pain...
You two stand back. I'll deal with these guys!
Hey! I understand you must be shocked, but there's no need to raise your weapons at us.
Before anyone gets hurt, why don't we all just go our separate ways...
No can do. I need to learn what happened to the Suin who are supposed to be living here.
How should we know? They were already gone when we turned up.
Why should I believe that? Grab them!
Orte! Stop!
She's not wrong. There's no need to fight if it can be avoided...
But we can't let such suspicious people roam free around here either...
Would you three mind coming with us while we straighten this out?
Broad Wind Plateau, Lingering Field
Well, now that we've finished speaking to you all separately, we've gathered some truly interesting answers to our questions...
You didn't say anything you shouldn't have, did you?
Of course not. Who do you take me for? You?
I don't have a good feeling about this...
It's odd. The three stories you told me are almost entirely different. So one of you might be telling the truth...
But more likely, all three of you are lying through your teeth.
What exactly did you say to her...?
N-Not much...
Quit arguing, we have more important things to worry about right now.
Time for me to step up. Again.
What? And try starting a fight again? You just sit here. I'll deal with it.
Have you all coordinated your stories now? I swear, if I have to hear more of your ridiculous excuses...
I won't let you get away with it this time.
As we already told you, we have nothing to do with those Suin moving east.
I am aware. Those tracks are far older than those of your arrival.
Then what exactly do you want to hear from us?
What business does a Human, a Suin, and a Wicked have traveling together? Why are you here?
...
Sounds about right... Shall I tell you what I think?
Though your appearances tell a different story, the three of you are in fact Wicked from the Forsaken Lands.
Since you can't take the Prairie, Yulha has turned her eyes to the Plateau.
And she sent you to gather information on the Suin and Humans here.
Us? Working for Yulha?! You better watch your mouth!
That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard in half a century!
We follow someone far more worthy than that horrible woman!
She just had to mention that name, didn't she?
I see Dana's feelings concerning Yulha haven't changed.
That means you are Wicked.
...Crap.
...!?
Are you giving up your Human disguise?
There's no point hiding any longer.
If you aren't working for Yulha, then you must have been sent from Shadow Mountain, by Beehoo.
How do you know about Shadow Mountain and Beehoo?
A new friend who came from across the sea told me. Anyway, that would mean you're not my enemy.
But that still doesn't explain why you're here.
...It's nothing exciting. We're just three sisters having a long overdue reunion.
A family reunion...? That's all? Ha! And where were you planning to go next?
Genesis Mountain, to meet our other sister.
I shouldn't be too specific... She'll only grow suspicious again if I tell her we're going to a Human village.
What a coincidence. We're going in that direction as well, so why not go together?
That's not to say I don't still have my suspicions. There are a few more things I would like to check...
We're going to travel with Suin from the Prairie? Wow, it's all working out so well! But Genesis Mountain...why would we be going there?
Would you rather I told a Suin we're going to a Human village while Theranhad is marching north to attack them?
Or should I just recklessly start fights like you? That woman has the Autumn Sword in case you didn't notice!
Can you say a single sentence without insulting me?
We can't allow ourselves to be swayed by emotions. Unlike you, I'm quick-witted.
If you two love fighting so much, why not have a round with me instead?
Urgh, are you ever going to give us some space?
*sighing* Whatever floats your boat.
The tracks end here...
Should we widen our search?
I'd prefer not to, but it seems we have little choice.
Understood. I'll organize the search teams.
Even some of the Suin in the West Prairie have moved east...
This is a problem. I don't have time to search the entire Plateau for them.
You're hoping to find them before war breaks out, right?
I see the rumors have already spread across the continent. I suppose I should expect as much of someone who calls herself an information broker.
If you came from Khan, that must mean you have a rough idea of their capabilities...?
Give it to me straight. Do you think the Prairie has any chance of winning?
It...won't be easy. Khan is united around a strong central figure, but the same can't said for the Prairie.
Well, I suppose I did tell you to be honest. Right, it's hard to say how a one-on-one between us and Khan would end, but if you add Theranhad to the equation...
Even the brave Suin of the Prairie will have no choice but to surrender at that point. And then the Prairie will burn...
Have you come to the Plateau to try and stop that from happening by getting the help of the Suin here?
Nothing gets past you, huh? Though it looks like we've already hit a roadblock...
It'll be pretty hard to convince an abandoned village to help us, won't it? Haha!
Even if the villagers were still here, I don't think they'd have been easy to convince...
I know. I haven't forgotten about their scorn for the Prairie.
That's not the only reason... Ah, I shouldn't get involved. It'll only be a pain.
Later That Evening, Arunka's Temporary Camp
I brought the three of them like you asked, Lady Arunka!
Thank you, Orte. I trust you passed on my orders to the others to assign minimal lookouts and get some much-needed rest.
Is that really a good idea out here...?
Making sure you get adequate rest is an essential part of military planning. Stop worrying, and make sure to rest up while you can.
Hehe, okay!
Letting her soldiers rest? If you ask me, she's being deliberately lax on security.
If she's trying to encourage us to make a run for it, why ask to see us?
She didn't say... Ah! Arunka's about to say something!
I'm sure you're wondering why I asked to meet you right as you were finally settling down.
I'm not going to say much. Only that I've been keeping a close eye on you and...
I've decided you aren't lying. So, I'm willing to let you go.
That's the last thing I expected you to say. I thought you were going to drag us along with you for as long as possible.
Not that we're not glad to hear it, but do you mind telling us why? It's not some kind of...animal instinct, is it?
Would that be so wrong? I like to think I have pretty good intuition.
I wasn't expecting the so-called owner of the Prairie to be this naive...
Haha, just kidding! You can stop looking at me like I'm some kind of simpleton now...
W-What?! I wasn't thinking that!
To be honest, I've already given you several opportunities to escape, and you never took advantage of them.
Nor did you attempt to leave any kind of signal indicating our whereabouts to your comrades.
What would be the use? You'd catch us again in no time anyway. Everyone knows Suin are formidable trackers.
While that's true, we had no reason to try escaping either. We trusted that our sincerity would get through to you.
Your sincerity... Ha! I like that!
Stop beating around the bush. The real reason you're letting us go is that it's too taxing to try to search for the missing Suin while keeping an eye on us.
There's that too, yes. But to tell you the truth, I wasn't really suspicious of you from the beginning.
Your outburst at the mere mention of Yulha's name didn't seem like it could've been faked.
...Please don't bring that up again.
Anyway, even if I trust you, the others don't seem quite as convinced.
So try to sneak away in the middle of the night. Leave too late in the morning and I can't guarantee your safety.
I guess we can just kick back until the time comes, then.
Ah, but Lona said you were here because of the coming war.
Yes... I was hoping to bring back the Suin who left during the previous war. I'm sure an information broker such as yourself is already aware, but...
As things stand, it's all but impossible for us to win. Yet everyone is putting all of their faith in me regardless.
And you're willing to do whatever you can to keep them all safe.
The only thing that matters is protecting the Prairie and repaying everyone's faith in me.
Even if I need to get down on my knees and beg them, if it gets them to join us, I will do it.
...You're not like the previous owners of the Prairie...there's something special about you.
Just the fact we're able to have a normal conversation with you is remarkable.
Ah, but when I mentioned Yulha before, you said "half a century"...
Yes, we were alive back during the great war. We've seen a lot of the owners of the Prairie come and go.
Really?! What were they like? Especially the one who first wielded the Autumn Sword... The first victor.
Ah... He was nothing like how they described in the stories.
He was strong, yes. But also stubborn, and impossible to talk with.
*quivering*
Huh? Why is the Autumn Sword reacting...?
Well...that is certainly a surprise to hear. What about those after him?
All kinds of people have wielded the sword, that's for sure. I have to say, it's hard to understand how a few of them even came to wield it...
But...they all did a good job of watching over the Prairie, right?
According to our histories, the Prairie has been united ever since the first victor formed the tribal alliance.
And yet, once I came to power...
Arunka...you must realize that history is often written with a bias.
I've lost count of how many times the Prairie been on the verge of collapse.
Especially after the recent wolf Morai genocide...
Kina...!
...
Oh, come on. They all know that's what caused all of this current conflict.
Arunka, I think you're doing a good job.
Those who came before you were always passing blame and responsibility onto others.
But even in this worst-case scenario, you are adamant about doing your part to protect the Prairie.
You're doing so much better than them, at least. So...stay strong, Arunka. Don't be discouraged.
...Thank you. Whether it's true or not, hearing that from people who witnessed history firsthand means a lot to me.
I've been thinking. There might be a way we can help you...
And what's that? All we have is information. Do we know something useful?
Lona, didn't Vena recently tell you something that Arunka might benefit from knowing...?
A-Ah right! It's here...
What?! Where were you keeping those papers? We didn't find them when we searched you earlier.
It's easy enough to hide things you don't want to be found. I received this information only recently, so not much should have changed since.
Since when did you have something like that? You should have given it to her sooner. Look how relieved she looks!
But why are you helping me?
Keeping the Prairie and the Autumn Sword safe also helps Beehoo.
Don't lose hope, and please...don't fail.
Broad Wind Plateau, Slippery Heights
Seeing how much the landscape has changed really drives home the fact that we've reached the west Plateau...
Do you think Arunka will be able to find them? I'm worried for her...
I'm sure she'll manage just fine. Phew, but it's getting hard to breathe. Is it because we're so high up?
Dana's in great shape, isn't she? She's so far ahead of us...
This pattern... I thought those rumors were completely baseless. Are they really true?
Why are you staring at that flag like that?
That's a Theranhad flag. But that pattern on it hasn't been used since back when they were still divided.
Huh? I thought the Humans in these parts weren't from Theranhad?
Exactly. That's why this is so odd...
We'll be in Human territory from this point forward. We should be careful in case something unexpected has happened...
Do you think that flag might be related to the Theranhad Army?
Maybe some Theranhad soldiers are stationed in the village...
Would that be a problem? They'll see us as Humans anyway.
But last I heard, the Humans here had no interaction with Theranhad?
Right... The village was established by people who didn't receive any protection during the great war.
As a result, their relationship with Theranhad wasn't great.
Then what's with the flag? Ah! Did they finally extend a hand, asking for help against the Suin?
It's hard to say. It must be related to the new emperor, though.
He's from a Human village around here, so there were a lot of rumors after his ascension that Theranhad troops would be stationed in the area.
An emperor lived somewhere like this?! That's unexpected...
Wasn't there something about him being a secret child of the last emperor?
Beats me... Other than Zahhak suddenly showing up with him one day, barely anything is known about him.
Though, I tried digging up what I could...
And I learned something very interesting... Check this out.
The old emperor issued some kind of edict forbidding any interaction with Suin?
But it was Zahhak who was tasked with enforcing it.
One of the villages found in violation of the edict was left alone. Could that be where the new emperor came from?
They weren't entirely unscathed. Many of the villagers were killed. But what I find most suspicious...
Is that every single soldier that accompanied Zahhak was killed, despite the village having had no established defense.
But that's not all, there were no follow-up dispatches to the area and the entire incident was swept under the rug.
There's definitely something fishy going on here...
Could the presence of Theranhad troops have something to do with Vena not meeting up with us?
Hmm, we shouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. Don't worry, I'm sure she was just too busy.
Still, we should be careful about how we act once we reach the village.
I hope nothing bad happens... Why can't I shake this feeling?
Ugh... Slow down a little...
I'm not even going very fast. How can you be so out of shape?
It's different living in the city. Out where I am, there's hardly any reason for me to ever move around...
Right, it must be nice being surrounded by clear water and fresh air...
W-Wait. Over there!
*slithering*
There's something strange about the way those creatures are moving...
Not only are there predators and prey all moving together, but they're all heading in the same direction...
You think I'm just napping all day?! Does talking down to me make you feel better about yourself or something?!
Shush! This isn't time for arguing! Listen...
What? Does hearing the truth hurt your feelings!?
*chittering"
A-Ah! Why are they coming this way?!
They must not like all the noise you two are making.
S-Sorry, Lona. All we've done is cause more trouble...
But doesn't something seem off about them? And...this energy feels familiar.
How could I ever forget this feeling? But why is it coming from them...?
We can worry about that later. I don't want to hang around here any longer!
Phew... That was a close one.
I ran like a madwoman! Looking back, it seems like they were going north...
North? But that leads to Suin territory. Why would they be going there?
Uh, Lona? What are you doing?
*gnashes mandibles*
Shh... Shh... You can rest now...
Krrrrrrr...
That energy that was enveloping it dissipated as soon as it died...
So the energy was not its own, but from another source taking temporary control of it.
The only being capable of such a thing is an alter ego of Aheldad...
Meaning either Lua or Yulha might be up to something here...
If it's Lua, maybe we should leave her to it. Anything that makes life harder for those lot in the Forsaken Lands is good for us.
But what if it's Yulha? She could be doing it to make up for her lack of troops. She's the type to do whatever it takes to get what she needs...
We have to be open to any possibility. But if this is going on, there must have been signs...
And considering we haven't heard anything from Vena at all...
Not another word. You'll only be tempting fate.
The best thing we can do right now is hurry up and get to the village.
All of our questions will be answered when we meet back up with Vena.
Refugee Village, Central Road
This place is much more sparse than I expected. I was thinking everything would be fancy, like in Theranhad.
These are people who left their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs before settling here. They couldn't care less about such ostentation.
Not to mention, they probably didn't want to be reminded of the home that rejected them.
...Why do you look so excited, Kina?
Ah, you two were already here? Look at this! There's so much interesting stuff in this village!
Since when did Humans, Ahem... I've never seen anything like this. Things have really developed a lot recently.
She's been separated from civilization for too long.
Haha... As long as she's not causing any trouble...
Are you branding me some kind of troublemaker now too? Don't worry, I haven't forgotten why we're here!
Anyway, I haven't been able to learn anything particularly useful. How about you?
Same...
Splitting up was no use after all...
I know Vena is meticulous in everything, but I wasn't expecting there not to be a single trace of her.
Has either of you noticed how the villagers are acting a little...strange?
I'm glad I'm not the only one. How do I describe it...? They all seem...dazed?
It would be great if that was all that was wrong. But they'll give you answers to questions you didn't ask, all while wearing big dumb smiles on their faces.
Talking about how they heard the harvest will be good this year, or how they're worried about the lord having no heirs...
Yeah, that was weird.
Why? What's wrong with having a good harvest?
No, about the heirs.
Theranhad's new emperor, Zio, was raised here as the lord's adopted son.
You mean, they're worried because he left to become emperor?
I assumed that too, so I asked again. But the people here seem to have no memory of Zio's existence at all...
Nor do they remember any attack by the Theranhad army...
Then, you're saying this whole village has lost its mind? That's scary...
I don't like this one bit... We need to find Vena's hideout as soon as possible.
...!?
H-Hey! Why are you showing your true form!?
We need to focus everything we have on detecting Vena's energy. We can't waste strength maintaining disguises.
I suppose you have a point. Just hurry, before we attract too much attention.
Right. You know how Humans feel about Wicked...
I've sensed something! Follow me!
Refugee Village, Vena's Hideout
I can't believe she was living somewhere so...rundown. No wonder we couldn't find it just by looking around.
More surprising is that Lona's plan worked out. Since when did you have such initiative?
Or have you been hiding your true colors all along?
S-Stop teasing me...
Anyway, it looks like someone has been here before us.
Right... Vena would never be able to live with this mess.
Hmm... There's the stuff we sent her, but also a bunch of information I've never seen before...
And it all concerns one thing, Aheldad.
Not even his alter egos, but Aheldad himself. But why? He's long dead...
Since when has anything Vena done made sense to anyone but her?
But I do know one thing about her better than you two do. I learned it while helping her out once.
Hey! Stop rummaging through everything! There might be clues!
Wait... There's a shape appearing...
What is Vena always telling us? To look at the whole picture, instead of the individual details...
Of course! She knew we'd be coming, and left us a message.
Ta-da! Do you see it?
That... That's the Genesis Mountain! Is that where she went?
Would you look at that... Dana didn't lie to Arunka after all. You weren't keeping something from us, were you?
This isn't the time for your stupid jokes. She was clearly in a hurry when she left this, which means...
BANG BANG BANG
What's the rush? Do you think other people will be coming here too?
That noise...
Get down!
KABOOM!
They blew the whole damn wall off! That could've killed us!
That's a Theranhad cannon. Why are the soldiers attacking us?
Remove the trespassers from the perimeters of the active investigation!
They must have seen you earlier, Lona! Now what are you going to do? You've got us all killed!
Y-You were complimenting my decision-making just a minute ago!
Shut up, you two! There's a back door over there. Come on!
Broad Wind Plateau, A Meadow on the Village Outskirts
I think we've lost them...
Now that we're out of the village, I know what kept making me feel so unsettled earlier.
Yeah... Aheldad's power could be felt emanating from everything there.
Why are they so keen to find Vena that they'd go as far as to manipulate the entire village's memories?
That soldier called it an investigation area...
Meaning they're hoping to learn something from Vena.
It must be related to her research on Aheldad.
Lua must be behind this. Her and Genesis Mountain are closely connected...
If the military is involved...does that mean they're aiming for the Pilgrims' Archive?
Don't the pilgrims keep their records at Safe Haven Origin, the place you were guarding Kina?
That's the one the public knew about. But there's a much more important archive on Genesis Mountain.
This is my first time hearing about that... How do you two know about it?
This probably isn't the time to bring up that Dana and I went together to talk with Beehoo.
We just...heard about it somewhere. Did we never tell you about that? How weird.
Anyway, the problem is we don't know its exact location.
We might now... I managed to grab a few important-looking things on the way out.
If we reorganize these a little... Look! It's pointing somewhere.
Wow, you're incredible! All those Khan puzzles we sent you came to good use!
Haha! I didn't expect them to pay off like this either!
Your little nature retreat wasn't a total waste of time after all...
Do you think the soldiers will be able to find the way too?
From the documents left there, probably not. But it can't hurt to be careful...
Let's hurry. Our little sister could be in danger!
Broad Wind Plateau, Upside-Down Forest
After Silvana gave them their duties, the pilgrims split between the north and south to help Humans and Suin.
In the north, they established Safe Haven Origin, and in the south...
Genesis Mountain.
Except the south was already stabilized and united under the state of Theranhad, so the southern pilgrims didn't have much to do.
And concentrated instead on archiving as much knowledge as they could.
The northern pilgrims never had the time for that since the Humans and Suin have been constantly fighting this whole time.
So that's why it's called the Pilgrims' Archive. I never knew all of that.
I only learned about it from reading the records at Safe Haven Origin.
Hmm, maybe the task Beehoo gave Vena was to act as a go-between with the pilgrims.
You must have been pretty bored up there to go through all those documents, huh?
Well, I had no choice. Someone showed up and made a mess of everything...
What does Lua hope to find in the archives?
It's hard to say. I'm more curious about what sort of stuff they're keeping there in the first place.
I'm sure there's all sorts of information in there that nobody else knows about.
I understand the excitement but let's not get distracted. We have to help Vena.
I-I wasn't getting distracted...! I was just saying...it would be nice to learn a few things while we're there...
The map says it should be around here, but I don't see a thing.
It looks like...footprints...left by a large group of people. But they're too faint to follow.
At least we know the soldiers have been through here.
If Vena left behind a clue, that means she knew we'd come looking for her.
And that she was hoping for our help.
Then, she probably left more clues around here too. We don't have much time, so we'll have to split up to look for whatever it is.
I guess so. But what do you think the entrance will even look like? I'm sure it won't be obvious...
It will likely be hidden by some kind of device or barrier, like Safe Haven Origin.
Right, so we have two things to look out for: tracks left by the enemy and clues left behind by Vena.
Judging by the clues left by Vena and the footprints...
The entrance must be somewhere around here, but all I see are trees...
Are there no similarities with Safe Haven Origin?
Shush! I feel a strange energy...
I found it! Over here!
*rumbling*
That giant boulder can move?! Wow, it was hiding a door all along...
See! I was right! Now we just need to get it open...
It looks like all the magical formulas written on the door have been erased.
These guys really don't want to be followed.
Those bastards... I have a feeling there won't be any side entrances either.
Then we're left with no other options. We'll have to blow the door open!
Don't be ridiculous. Do you think we're even capable of that? If that was possible, the soldiers would have done it too.
So, what do we do? Wait here politely for them to open it from the inside?
...
...Lona? Why are you staring at the wall like that?
I think...we might be able to open it still.
See, Lona agrees with my methods. It's already damaged. I'm sure if we combine our strength...
I didn't mean that! Look at this. It's faint, but doesn't this symbol look familiar to you?
...It does. I still remember when we all designed it. Why is it here?
Why else? Vena left it for us so we can open the door even in the worst-case scenario.
I think you're right. Look, it starts glowing once I fill in my part at the bottom left.
If I fill in mine... Yes! It's glowing even brighter! Dana, you do yours!
All right, then...
FWOONG
It's complete! The beautiful smiling face of Beehoo!
But...nothing happened. Did we do something wrong?
*creaking*
PING!
Where did this weird space come from?! Dana, what have you done now?!
I haven't done anything! I think...it's supposed to be the archive?
Ah... Some kind of rift in space must have been created. So we opened the door...
*howling*
Hold on to each other tightly! I think it's going to suck us in...!
Ahh...!
Dammit! What's going on?!
Lona! Kina!
WOOOOSH!
Pilgrims' Archive, Memory Repository
*whooshing*
PING!
I wasn't expecting to get sucked in. I suppose I should be thankful I wasn't hurt.
But it seems like it dropped each of us off in different places...
I'd love to explore this place, but instead I need to focus on finding my sisters and fighting off these soldiers.
Why does nothing ever go my way?
I was expecting some kind of impressive and mysterious library but this...
Just looks like any other dilapidated shrine. Maybe it would be more accurate to call it a warehouse...
Though I'm sure it looked much nicer before Lua and her lackeys showed up.
Anyway, I can't let myself get distracted!
I can sense my sisters' energies, faintly... At least that should mean they're safe.
The only issue is, even if I know the direction they're in, I have no idea which paths lead to them. I'd kill for a few signposts...
...Hmm, this stele seems to be imbued with some kind of power.
These inscriptions seem to be written in an ancient language...
Memory Within the Stele
Huh? Is this some kind of vision?
Wait, this place looks like something I read about once! Isn't this the Sanctuary in Ritania?
In order to face the first Archdemon, four Spirit Lords arrived in Ritania at the head of an allied army.
With the combined strength of the armies of Orbis behind him, the Heir of the Covenant was able to plunge his sword into the Archdemon and end the war...
But Destina, the Spirit Lord of Light, had used up too much of her strength, and fell into a deep sleep.
Even after the Archdemon's defeat, Ritania continued to suffer attacks from remnants of the archdemon's forces, led by the remaining Acolytes.
So, the allied forces used the last of Orbis's power to create a barrier around Ritania and the Sanctuary.
They continued to fight the war under the protection of Malicus and Nixied.
Silvana sought to heal the wounds that Ritania had suffered, and as time went by...
The continent slowly regained its original luster.
Finally, Destina awoke from her long slumber and warned that Aheldad, King of Revolutions, who had long remained hidden, would appear in Natalon.
Silvana tried to return to Natalon, but had been greatly weakened by her healing of Ritania.
Malicus and Nixied offered to share their strength with Silvana, who in return left some of that power with Destina...
Who took up the task of restoring Ritania, and gained the strength to resist the darkness.
So Silvana left for Natalon, and Malicus, who had been greatly wounded fighting the Acolytes, returned to Cidonia.
Destina...and Nixied...helped one another...in Duselnorc
Huh? Why is the voice suddenly slowing down?
It cut off before it was finished? Ah! Is it because the stele is damaged in that section?
A record of the first Archdemon War... This is long before we were even made.
Someone was by Silvana's side even then, recording history?
The person spoke so stiffly. Perhaps this is an educational tool for young pilgrims.
I certainly won't forget that lesson for a while. But what came after?
Hmm, are there any other steles around here?
...No! This isn't the time to be satisfying my curiosity!
I should head for the energy source I felt nearest to me.
Aheldad transformed the living things of Natalon to do his bidding.
The cities of the north, built up by greedy Humans, were utterly destroyed.
The Prairie of the stubborn Suin was burned to ashes.
Yet the two races remained at odds with one another. It is only natural, as they were both so different.
Silvana pitied them, and so shared with them powers they did not previously possess, creating Spirits in the process...
Silvana commanded the Spirits to look after the two races and do what they could to unite them.
Silvana also selected those willing to help and designated them Pilgrims.
We were then tasked with forging the Four Seasons Swords, each containing some of the power of a Spirit Lord.
After entrusting these swords to both Human and Suin alike, Silvana fell into a deep sleep.
Was their will achieved...? The Humans and Suin worked together to survive and repelled the forces of Aheldad.
Shortly after, the second Archdemon arrived... But this time Orbis was safe even without Natalon's help.
Though Aheldad may have been frustrated in his quest, it is likely he still seeks an alternative path.
That is why we have been chased so far, why...our books...were taken.
Books containing...the wisdom of the World Tree...and the forbidden methods...for contacting...otherworldly beings...
Huh? Why'd it stop suddenly?
And at the most important part!
Lona! Watch out!
...!?
Phew, that was close. If I'd arrived any later...
D-Dana?! Oh, an Awakened soldier...
Are you hurt? You look fine, at least...
Yes, I'm fine. I was trying to find you and Kina, when I came across this painting...
And it started showing you a bunch of stuff, in your head, right?
Right... Though I couldn't see it all.
Ah, my attack tore the rest of the painting... Well, it's more important that you're safe and sound.
Anyway, if there are Awakened soldiers here, that must mean Lua is still here too.
Maybe... We should hurry and find Kina and Vena.
I'm sure Vena can look after herself, but that doesn't make me any less anxious.
Dana really is worried...
It'll be okay. Judging by the energy I can feel...those two have met each other.
I can see why it's called the Pilgrims' Archive. There's no shortage of interesting things in here.
Of course, there's a bunch of random junk that doesn't seem like it was worth saving as well. I'd love to have a proper look around if only I had the time...
But where are all the pilgrims? All I've seen since arriving is Awakened.
They weren't all killed, were they? ...I can't worry about that right now! We have to find Vena!
The energy keeps getting stronger, I knew this was the right way! Maybe once we turn that corner...
...
Vena! I knew it!
...But you're unconscious... It looks like there was a fight, but you don't look hurt.
By the look of this place, the Awakened soldiers sure were persistent.
She must've used up all her strength resisting them, then zonked out after setting up a barrier...
But then where are the soldiers who were attacking her?
Vena, wake up. It's me, Kina! Your most reliable sister!
Oh? She's hugging something... An old crystal ball?
Why would she, Ah!
Memory Within the Crystal Ball
Did you finish investigating?
It was as expected. Total carnage... But I'm certain it was caused by a single boy, not any of the soldiers of Theranhad.
Judging by the traces of power remaining within the village...
Do you intend to tell me there's a new fragment? Impossible! We tracked them all down...
We placated those who were willing to listen. And the others were...dealt with.
Except for those two who managed to evade us and build up their strength... But can there really be another who we missed entirely?
I didn't want to believe it either, but this is no time to be complacent.
Judging by the traces of power, I think he is even more dangerous than those other two. And, this is just a gut feeling, but...
I think it's related to the primary reason we've settled here...
Answer me this. Is the entity being properly guarded...?
What are you trying to suggest?!
After all we sacrificed to lock it away, do you think we would be careless?
But other than those who were alive at the time, we haven't ever properly confirmed...
Out with it. What are you trying to say?
Is that entity...truly dangerous?
How can you have any doubt about that fact? Such darkness should never exist...
I caught a glimpse of the truth through this investigation. Now I wish to confirm it myself.
Don't be absurd! Those unprepared have no hope of resisting the temptation...
Argh!
I do not require your permission. We've already made up our minds.
You're... Totally out of your mind... You can't!
If I go to the Chamber of the Forgotten Seal, all my doubts will be eased.
I will learn why this voice lingers in my mind...
While investigating the village massacre with a group of pilgrims, you were attacked by Theranhad soldiers...
So you all came here...?
Yes, but then as soon as we arrived, they all turned on each other, as if they were possessed.
Yes, I saw that in the crystal ball... But why? There was something about a Chamber of the Forgotten Seal?
I don't know much either, only that the old pilgrim said there is something there that absolutely must not be unleashed.
Then he gave me this crystal ball, that contains all the memories of the archive, and begged me to stop them.
So, instead of escaping, you were on your way to that Forgotten Seal Chamber or whatever all on your own?
Nobody can fix this but me...
*sighing* You're too fearless for your own good. You could have at least waited for us to arrive first!
There was not enough time!
Did you not consider the danger? I don't know why those soldiers left you alive, but if they'd kept attacking...
The Awakened soldiers' ambush caught me off-guard, but you were right, Lona...
Yeah, they really are together. But they don't look happy...
...Why the long faces? Shouldn't you be looking more relieved to see each other?
Kina did something stupid again, didn't she? Typical... Our dear Vena never does anything that upsetting, so it must've been you.
You take your sweet time getting here, then immediately start lobbing accusations at me? I'm here stopping this stupid girl from running off and getting herself killed!
Huh? Would you mind explaining what's going on, Vena?
It's a long story, and there's no time. Did you say you dealt with the soldiers?
We should be able to go straight to the Chamber of the Forgotten Seal without needing to worry about anyone coming from behind us.
Sorry, but can someone catch me up here? Chamber of the what?! And why are we going there?!
...
See that face? She told you, there's no time. Now come on! I'll try explaining the best I can on the way.
Pilgrims' Archive, Chamber of the Forgotten Seal
How did they manage to make something this big underground? It's more like a prison than an archive...
Has anyone else been feeling something weird? It's like my body is being sapped of its strength, little by little.
Yes, it's a feeling I'm familiar with. It's how the pilgrims suppress Aheldad's strength.
So, it's to be expected it would have an effect on Wicked like us. There's a place like this in Safe Haven Origin too.
Vena... You said an alter ego of Aheldad is locked away here, right?
That's what the memories inside the crystal ball say... And that must be what our enemies are here for.
Beehoo told us that Aheldad created a whole bunch of alter egos as he was defeated, so I always found it strange that there are so few now.
It turns out we have the pilgrims to thank for that...
But locking up the alter egos here only ended in disaster...?
Yes... One of the alter egos broke out of their shackles and absorbed the power of all the others.
Well, at least they saved everyone the trouble of running around dealing with them individually. On the downside, one single, extremely powerful being was created...
Many pilgrims were killed attempting to seal them away. In the end, this entire place was dedicated to keeping that one entity sealed.
But how did Lua find out about this place? There's nothing about it in any of the records back at Safe Haven Origin.
Maybe it's related to the massacre at the village.
I think so too. The pilgrims only started acting strange after investigating that matter.
All the villagers were acting strange too. They knew nothing at all about not only the massacre but the new emperor as well.
It was as if their memories had been manipulated.
Yulha lives nearby, so maybe they were being extra careful to avoid her learning about this.
Maybe... If Yulha was able to gain this power, it would certainly tilt the balance in her favor.
I think you're all missing the biggest problem here: what exactly are we going to do to solve this on our own?
Good question. All of the pilgrims who were guarding this place are dead...
I'm sure Vena has thought of something. Or we can ask that all-knowing crystal ball.
You're not taking this very seriously, are you?
The crystal ball has a connection with the power in this place.
We can use it to strengthen the seal, or overload it to create a new seal.
I can't believe that old pilgrim chose to entrust an outsider like Vena with something so important, though I guess people do tend to warm up to her quickly...
When you say create a seal by overloading it? Do you mean by causing this place to collapse, burying us all alive?
Haha, surely not. I'm sure she meant we can aim the blast so it only buries our enemies, right?
No, I mean we will completely cut this place off from the outside world.
Through one small sacrifice, we can keep the entire world safe. Isn't that more than worth it?
Well, it's hard to argue with that. But I prefer the first option, where we live.
I agree. But the odds of us four taking down Lua, the Awakened soldiers, and all of the crazed pilgrims...
...Are next to nothing. Which leaves us with only the second option...
Who knew our little reunion would end in a joint funeral.
Did you really have to say that? I'm sure we can find another way...
We should stop talking, and move quietly. We're almost there.
Deep within the Chamber of the Forgotten Seal
Is this the place you were talking about?
This is my first time coming here too. But this energy is unmistakable.
I'm still not sure about this. Will whatever's down here really bring about a new world...?
Right, an ascetic like you wouldn't feel anything because of the pilgrims' seal.
Allow me to help you, as payment for leading me here.
SHING
CRUNCH
Urk... What's happening? Why...?
Creating a crack in the seal requires the sacrifice of a pilgrim with a pure will.
Don't worry, the entity you were so keen to meet will see you soon.
You have finally found me, child.
W-Wait! No! This isn't what I was expecting...
I haven't seen this place for so long. Have you been waiting for me?
The only one capable of being our vessel. The chosen child... We've been waiting for you.
Haha! Is that so? You still remember... Me, the one whose very existence they called an abomination...
On the threshold of death... In a moment of utter despair and frustration, but deep down, still not willing to let go of my ambitions...
In that state...our will found you...
So a covenant was made when I accepted that part of you all. In return for everything I wanted, I would return to pay back what is owed.
I was to become a vessel capable of holding your wills. Well, that time has finally come.
I can feel it. You were so frail then, but now you have become something that can embrace us in our entirety.
Indeed. I am no longer my old, pathetic self.
It is time to fulfill your end of the covenant. Let us become one. Let us...complete what was uncompleted so long ago...
Forget the promises of the past. I will forge a new path.
W-What are you doing?!
How dare you...! Are you...trying to rule over us? These vain desires... You won't be able to...
Do you think I can't do it? You've forgotten why you chose me in the first place.
You said my ambition was like an abyss without end, that I would take everything I wanted.
You were right. I cannot be stopped and I cannot be sated.
You foolish boy! We are beings of Aheldad. Your mind will buckle under the weight of our will.
No. You're wrong. I will consume all of you...and you will be the nourishment that allows me to go further...
And when I am done, I will pursue even greater power.
This is impossible... Y-You...are...merely Human!
Shut up and be destroyed. You're just the fragments of past failure...
...!?
Deep within the Chamber of the Forgotten Seal
*rumbling*...
Was that an earthquake? Are we too late?
I think so... The sealed entity was in there...
The stele is completely smashed. It has been released...
There are dead pilgrims and Awakened scattered all over the place... Be on your guard for an attack...
So it has come to this...
*energy thrumming*
She activated the crystal ball... Are you really going to bury us all here?!
This is our only option. You sense it too, don't you? It's in here with us.
We must seal it away. Through our sacrifice, calamity can be averted.
This is the only logical choice. So please, help me, before it's too late.
Why don't we try fighting it first?! I really don't want to die here!
Don't you feel the same way, Dana?!
No... Vena is right. If Lua is behind this, the four of us have no hope of facing her.
Especially if she has the strength of the other alter egos as well. Sealing her in here is the best we can do.
She's right... I'm as sad as you are that we'll never get to see Beehoo again, but we need to hurry before we're discovered.
Urgh, when you're all like that, you hardly give me any other choice...
Even if we're going to die here, I'm at least happy I get to spend my last moment with my sisters.
I'm sorry for everything... And I'm so grateful for you all.
Everyone, channel your power into the crystal ball.
...!?
W-What's going on?! Something else is absorbing our power?!
This energy... This is Aheldad's power! Impossible... It's permeating this entire place.
He's using the crystal ball to connect himself to our minds...
Quickly, let go of the crystal! If you don't!
A Cave in Genesis Mountain, the Past
You've returned? Have you changed your mind?
I've been doing a lot of thinking since you told me about my origins.
I've come to a realization. There's a reason I have this insatiable hunger...
It's inescapable. I was destined to never be satisfied living in a place like this.
That's why I returned. To stand above all the others...
Because it's my birthright.
These village people...they go about their vapid lives just to die in obscurity. I can't do that. I should be commanding soldiers, not be commanded by them.
I've come up here to ask for power. To punish those who threaten me...!
I trust you are aware that all power comes with a price?
Of course. Name it.
Very well. We have been waiting for someone like you. One whose ambition is like an abyss... One who wants to have everything...
You may be small, but there is space enough for at least some of us.
We will make a covenant. Once you get what you want, you will return to pay us what you owe.
Not here, in this small cave where our consciousness barely reaches, but to the place where we are sealed away.
Once I get what I want... Yes... I will return to you before long.
And I will keep our promise.
Deep within the Chamber of the Forgotten Seal
That memory... It belonged to the one who corrupted the pilgrims. The one who led the Awakened and Theranhad soldiers...
Ah, my sisters... Are they unconscious...?
This power is now mine in its entirety. It took much longer than I would have liked, but...
The wait was worth it. I can experience the joy of ravaging all the creatures of this land...
Of course, certain uninvited guests prevented me from having exactly the experience I wanted, but it's fine. Now...
To deal with those who dared violate my memory. I guess they had an opening while I absorbed that power.
That crystal ball in your hand... Were you hoping to seal this entire place away?
An admirable effort, but you lot would've never been able to stop me.
It all makes sense now...
Keeping the massacre a secret... Manipulating the villagers' memories...
It was all to shroud your existence from the other alter egos.
You're sharp. But it's still too soon for the world to learn the truth.
I must lay low until the proper moment. Everything must remain in its proper place.
So you're going to kill us...since we know your identity?
What a stupid question. Were you not listening?
All things must remain in their proper place. It is not yet time for me to take center stage.
That includes you. So, just like the villagers...
Urgh...
You will forget what you've seen today.
Refugee Village, Vena's Hideout
Was this supposed to be here...?
Urgh! Don't you dare go around calling yourself an information broker anymore when you're incapable of even the most basic sorting!
Everyone has their own system! I'm just confused because I'm trying to adapt to Vena's.
What do you mean?! She's already explained it five times over!
Heh... No matter how long we spend apart, the moment we're back together, they're bickering like always.
Oh, well, I'm sorry. I don't usually leave everything in such disarray.
But with the sudden disappearance of the pilgrims, I've not been in my right mind.
It's a good thing we arrived when we did. You'd never be able to organize this all on your own...
I can't believe Beehoo asked you to provide information to the Pilgrims' Archive.
It is quite burdensome, yes. But since it was Beehoo asking...
It's certainly going to be more difficult once you all leave. Like you said, the scale is far too large to handle all on my own.
Right... But we all need to return to our posts as soon as we can. If only you had some kind of assistant...
Actually... There is someone. They're a decent, hardworking person.
...You're not talking about the contact Dana mentioned, are you? I heard they ran away because of Kina.
Ah, well, I ran into them again in the village. They say they plan to stay here for a while.
As soon as I mentioned the Pilgrims' Archive, their ears perked right up.
...You're just going around talking about my business without asking me first?
Ah... Well, uhh, Hey, where does this belong?
Please put any materials from the archive in the third section. And the rest...
*crinkling*
What about this piece of cloth...? I feel like I've seen this before...
It's from Theranhad. Though this pattern here is used exclusively by the imperial pala...
Argh! My head...
What's wrong!? Are you hurt?
No, no... I'm fine... I'm sure it's just my body telling me to get some rest.
I was trying to remember something. Why does it feel like there's fog in my brain?
What was it? It felt like it was really important...

Hmm...
She looks upset. It's got to be because those Wicked skipped camp.
All right. There's only one thing for me to do!
I didn't expect them to run away after you were so kind to them. Don't worry, I'll drag them back kicking and screaming in no time!
Huh? Oh, those three sisters?
Forget about them. I let them go. They weren't a danger to us.
If anything, they were a great help.
In what way? Are you talking about that bundle of paper you're holding?
They called themselves information brokers, and they certainly gave me some very useful info. But it seems the situation is more dire than we thought.
The three tribes we need to meet with have very poor relations.
It's almost as bad as on the Prairie, if not worse.
That's not good to hear. We need them to work together...
What's more frustrating, is that there's no real information on the exact root of the conflict.
We just have to meet with them first and try to make them see reason. The Gray Extinction tribe is closest, so we'll start there.
L-Lady Arunka! We have a problem!
Wah! Where did you come from? Are you a scout? Why are you making that face...?
I... I think it would be best for you to come see for yourself.
You reek of blood. What's happened?
HIDDEN STORY Persistence
Broad Wind Plateau, Gray Sunset Village
This is no different to a battlefield! I only told you to scout ahead, what on Orbis did you to?!
We didn't do anything! This place was like this when we found it.
Wait, what? Are the three tribes already warring?
It appears most of them were slaughtered without resistance. Is the conflict between the tribes really so severe?
But the wounds on the bodies don't match Suin weaponry...
Have you found any survivors?
No luck yet. I thought it more important to alert you first.
Then pair up and start looking.
Everyone, stop what you're doing and form a perimeter.
Huh? Why so suddenly?
Orte! Get down!
*hissing*
What is that?!
I'm willing to bet it's the culprit behind this bloodbath here.
Look! there are more coming!
*growling*
Are we its next meal?
KABOOM!
As expected of Lady Arunka! She didn't even use her sword, she just broke open the ground with her fist!
Focus on finding survivors, and leave the monsters to me. We need to find out what caused all of this.
Can you handle them on your own?
Don't ask stupid questions! Is there anything on Orbis that stands a chance against Lady Arunka?
You can rely on me! If anyone here is still alive, I'll find them!
I don't know why you monsters are attacking Suin, but I'll make you pay for it!
I haven't had a good fight in a while!
Really? Not a single survivor?
None... We looked all over...
We even went as far as the village outskirts just in case, but only found more corpses of those killed while fleeing.
All right. First of all, we'll deal with the fires that spread throughout the village, then we'll start with the recovery of the bodies.
What have you done?!
You cowards! You waited until I was away to strike! I knew your promises of peace and coexistence were nonsense!
You must be the Gray Extinction chief... We had nothing to do with this slaughter.
Shut your mouth! Dammit, I shouldn't have held back. I should have helped those Humans wipe you off the map!
Don't you lay a finger on Lady Arunka! You'll pay for that!
Enough, Orte. There's no use making the situation even worse. We didn't come here to fight.
Please, calm down and listen to me! I can explain!
I won't let your snake tongue trick me anymore!
Cleansing fires wash you away! Avenge my fallen kin!
I don't think this can be resolved with words...
We're already off to a bad start...
What do we do?! They're fighting with all they've got!
What do you mean "what do we do?!" If you don't want to die, defend yourselves! Or are you cowards?
N-Never! Warriors of the Prairie fear nothing!
*rushing*
I don't think we can hold them back for much longer...!
Stop whining and try harder! I have to go help Lady Arunka!
Your end is nigh! You will pay for your sins!
We're paying for coming here in a hurry with little support... This is getting out of hand.
I have no other choice...
If I'm careful of my surroundings and use all my strength...
Huh...? What's going on? I just used the power of the Autumn Sword...
Is this the village before it was attacked?
*hissing*
There are too many of them! We have to get away!
It's hopeless! Everyone is doomed!
...!?
Why is this happening?!
I almost failed to control my strength...
But...why did I just see a vision of the slaughter in the village?
And what's this faint, ominous power...
So, this is the power you Soil Breath scum were hiding...!
Listen to me! I have nothing to do with the Soil Breath tribe!
Yes... If they had such power, they would have wiped us out long ago.
Who are you, then?
I'm Arunka, of the Prairie! Wielder of the Autumn Sword!
The Autumn Sword... Right, that explains your abilities. What brings you to the Plateau?
Can that wait until we deal with this mess first?
I'm sure you can agree it would be best to put out these fires as soon as possible.
Sometime Later, Outskirts of Gray Sunset Village
Is that that last of them?
Looks like. We spent the whole night putting out fires and recovering bodies. The sun's already rising...
But why were those creatures attacking the village? There were several species all working together...
No idea. Maybe they're friends.
Or maybe the other tribes are up to something, like that rude mage claimed?
Thank you sincerely for your assistance.
Hmm, but no apology...?
You're here to ask for our help in the war on the Prairie, aren't you?
Yes. We will soon be sandwiched between two invading forces. Khan from the north, and Theranhad from the south.
Allying with filthy Humans to stab their own race in the back... This is truly the worst crisis the Prairie has faced since the great war.
We cannot stop both forces by ourselves. That's why I'm here for help.
I understand you are desperate, but this has nothing to do with us. We have long since cut our ties with the Prairie.
Then you refuse...?
There are many reasons why I must. As the leader of an alliance of tribes, I'm sure you know why.
This is about the Forsaken Lands, isn't it? That area was once part of the eastern Prairie. But during the great war, the tribal alliance turned a blind eye when it was attacked.
Thus, our ancestors cut ties with the Prairie and settled here on the Plateau. Yet you dare come here to ask us for help.
Your alliance is as shameless as it has always been.
I understand I have no right to expect your help, but the situation is truly desperate.
If the Prairie falls, all those same horrors of the past will be repeated. I can't bear to let that happen.
Whatever you must say to me, please do so. I have no need for pride right now.
Protecting the Prairie and all the Suin who live there is all that matters.
So please, lend us your strength. Leave the painful past behind, for the sake of the future.
I get what you're saying, but it is not easy for me to offer you the help you desire.
Our enemies are waiting any opportunity to bring us to our knees. Today is proof enough of that.
You believe the Soil Breath tribe were responsible for this?
There is no evidence they were controlling those creatures. For all we know, it might just have been some kind of unfortunate accident.
Ha! An accident?! All these different animals accidentally left their natural habitats in packs to accidentally work together to attack my people?
Well...
If you want my help, you will have to guarantee the safety of my people first.
I don't want more tragedy like this. You of all people should be able to empathize with that.
For that... you want me to reconcile the three tribes, don't you?
I'm not sure if that would even be possible. There may be hope with the Gold Eye tribe, but the Soil Breath tribe are in league with the Humans.
"In league"...?
It's exactly as it sounds. When we began clashing with the Humans here, those scum sided with the Humans.
I have no doubt they were behind this as well. An ever-increasing number from my tribe are clamoring for war lately.
With what happened today, I've decided. I will wipe them from the face of Orbis.
You can't! If you start a war, reconciliation will be impossible!
What does that matter to us? We'll win anyway.
But you're right, war should only be a last resort. Take this.
A...letter?
It is a demand for the Soil Breath tribe's unconditional surrender. Take it to them.
He is filled with blind rage. I never expected their relations would be this poor...
You should hurry. Preparations for war have already started.
Broad Wind Plateau, Persuasion Plains
The map says we're in Soil Breath territory now.
If only I had arrived sooner, so many Suin lives could have been saved.
That chief guy really was the worst, though.
He wouldn't listen to a word you said, and just kept attacking. And then he didn't even have to decency to apologize.
Those creatures I saw in the vision from the Autumn Sword clearly were being driven by some purpose...
Maybe they really were targeting the village deliberately...
And he was so rude to you as well!... Lady Arunka, are you listening to a word I say?
Hmm? Oh, umm... No. What were you saying?
Are you still thinking about that village?
Is it that obvious?
Nobody can read your face like I can, Lady Arunka.
You only look like that when you're thinking really deeply about something. Just like during...
The tribal conference?
West Prairie, Arunka's Home, the Past
Is it true that you have stopped keeping tabs on Januta?
His power base has collapsed. There's no need to risk problems by antagonizing...
How frustrating. Don't you realize that it is exactly that type of complacency that continues to create problems?
Past owners of the Prairie would decisively root out problems before they had any chance to sprout.
...So, what do you want me to do? Capture and execute Januta and all of his followers?
In short, yes. If you let them live, it will only be a matter of time before they bring chaos back to the Prairie.
That is my decision to make. I am not like my father.
No, you are not. But I am telling you this so that you do not repeat the same mistakes.
Even before reaching your position, you made a fatal mistake, did you not?
The result of which sees us faced with a powerful threat to the north in the form of the Khan Empire.
There...was no other way...
Anyway, there is little use dwelling on the past. Which is all the more reason to make the right decisions today.
Just don't forget that the lives of the Suin of the Prairie hang on the decisions you make.
...
Even now, I get worked up just thinking about how those old oafs treated you.
I wish I'd punched them right in their smug faces!
...They weren't wrong, though, were they? I need to act more responsibly.
Many Suin lives depend on my ability to make the right choices.
How are they everywhere we go?!
What should we do? They keep coming from the direction of the Soil Breath tribe.
Leave us alone, you pests!
Could it really be Suin controlling these creatures?
No... The energy within these creatures is the same as the one I felt when using the Autumn Sword earlier.
*ferocious squealing*
SHWING...!
I felt it for sure just now. An unknown force is amplifying their rage.
I don't know why they're like this, but we have to do what we can to avoid more slaughter.
I have no ill will towards you creatures. May you rest in peace...
FWOONG!
The Autumn Sword is speaking to me. It's telling me to cut the darkness from them.
I don't know what's going on, but...
All right, I'll deal with this right here!
*growling*
It really worked... I didn't know the Autumn Sword was capable of that.
Did you do this?!
It seems so... I don't fully understand what's going on, but what's clear is...
*growling*
Wah! Were they just pretending?!
They're not attacking, Orte. They're just being friendly.
The energy I felt in them... It's the same dark power within Januta and his followers. And the Awakened soldiers.
All of this chaos on the Plateau... Is it the work of Adin and that man who sought the Autumn Sword?
I'll never forgive them! Out of my way, I have to get to Lady Arunka!
That was a long fight. Is anyone seriously hurt?
Not that serious. But...someone is coming this way.
There they are! Those awful creatures that attacked our village! But...who are those people?
Look, that karura is rubbing up against one of them. They must be friends!
Ah, they were the ones controlling the creatures! Judging by how ugly they are, they must be from the Gray Extinction tribe!
Oh? Look at their clothes. They must be from the tribe we were looking for.
KRRRR...!
Eh!? What are you hiding behind me for, you stupid thing?! You're twice my size!
...I have a feeling this isn't going to go any better than the last time, either.
Get ready, Orte. I don't think they'll be willing to talk just yet.
They don't look like our enemies, but it's hard to interpret this situation any other way.
We can listen to what they have to say after we neutralize them.
The Gray Extinction tribe suffered a similar attack?
Meaning all of these strange phenomena on the Plateau have nothing to do with them?
Exactly! This is all a horrible misunderstanding between you two. There's no need for you to fight.
No need...? The gulf between our two tribes has already grown far too wide to bridge.
I've heard of the conflict between your two tribes. How it has been complicated by the Humans...
Those fools brand us traitors simply for interacting with Humans!
We'd prefer not to involve ourselves with them either, but it was unavoidable.
We had to help those stupid, vicious people who lost their homes along with us.
And what do we get for it? Those we saved from extermination shun as traitors!
Wait, you find yourselves going to war with the very people you sought to protect?
There's no need for that. You can resolve this by talking, I'm sure of it. I'll help!
Do you truly believe that is possible at this point? You don't know the things they've done!
We tried extending a hand of friendship. I even sent a delegation not too long ago.
But every last member of it was murdered in cold blood! So viciously we couldn't even recognize their corpses!
There must be a misunderstanding. Suin would never do that to each other!
I admire your drive to protect the Suin of the Prairie, and would have been happy to help if we could.
But as long as the Gray Extinction tribe are still living, it's simply not possible. Anyway...it's too late.
According to our latest intelligence, they're already on their way to attack us.
...
Lady Arunka...
I really thought I could reconcile past conflicts and recruit the Suin of the Plateau to our aid.
But in the end, I can do nothing but stand here and watch as a fratricidal war unfolds before me.
What should I do? Do I return to the Prairie and try again to convince the smaller tribes to join...?
No, there'd be no use. If I can't bring the plateau Suin back with us, the war...
Lady Arunka!
Ah, Orte... You were saying?
I wasn't saying anything. But what should we do now?
It's hard to say. I don't know what to do... Should we try and stop the war between the two tribes?
But there are so few of us... Maybe if we can find the Gold Eye tribe...
But the information we have says they've isolated themselves from the outside world. They don't even appear on our map.
Ha... There's really nothing I can do but return to the Prairie a failure...
How can I call myself owner of the Prairie and wielder of the Autumn Sword when I'm so incompetent?
Don't talk like that. I'm sure there will be a way!
Yes, it's too soon to give up. You're a little late, but you found the place eventually...
Stop hiding and show yourself!
Oops, I wasn't meaning to hide. Please do not misunderstand.
You...
You're shocked that the ones you sought have appeared before you. We've been waiting for you for a long time.
Please follow me. There isn't much time.
West Prairie, Chief's Tent, the Past
You will soon be leading the Prairie, Arunka.
What are you talking about, Father? You are still alive...
Don't act so surprised. The Autumn Sword is yours now.
It is only natural that you take my place. The tribal alliance will make it official soon.
I see... But I'm worried. Will I truly be able to lead?
It's not an easy job, that's for sure. You must unite all Suin.
You definitely achieved that, Father. You are respected by many tribes.
Yes... I had to coax numerous tribes into finding common ground. It was exhausting work.
But the Prairie is not as united as it may appear. This is little more than a temporary unity, glued together by a shared sacrifice.
You know that, don't you?
...
But I think your time will be different. I believe you can achieve true harmony on the Prairie.
How can I achieve what even you couldn't...?
I sought to protect the Prairie through exclusion, but I expect you will make a different choice.
You have a generous heart willing to embrace all people. There is a reason the Autumn Sword chose you...
Silver-Bill Field, Tent
...Was that a dream?
Yes... Father passed his leadership onto me, and then left for somewhere else on the Prairie.
He left everything for me to deal with on my own. So much has happened since then...
And I don't think I've dealt with any of it particularly well. Do I really deserve to be leader?
I must have kept you waiting long. Or maybe you're just very tired.
I can't believe there is a village somewhere this remote. We never would have had any hope of finding it on our own.
Our tribe has a mission. We have no choice but to avoid contact with the outside world.
Is this mission of yours related to why you were waiting for me?
We'll see. For now, we are just confirming the prophecy of the first victor.
"The first victor"...? The one that was strong, but also stubborn and impossible to talk with?
Haha! You have some accurate records of him? I assumed he'd had them all destroyed upon his return.
Then do you know this? He was unique in many ways, but...
He was also a talented sorcerer, who left behind many prophecies.
I've never heard that before...
Though I didn't know the rest either until those sisters told me.
The first victor was from our tribe. Before returning to the Prairie, he gave us one command.
When the final victor of the Autumn Sword comes to find us, we must test them. And if they pass that test, we must follow them.
...Final? Is that what it sounds like?
Hard to say. I don't know the finer details, myself. Only that when deep darkness falls upon the Prairie...
They will be the one to defeat it... I think that person is you.
I'm not so sure. I'm not much different than any of the victors that came before me. If anything...
I sense from you something that nobody has been able to harness since the first victor...
Golden energy that cuts the darkness.
"Golden energy"...? He means...
You seem to have worked something out.
Follow me. We need to make certain you really have that ability.
*growling*
Why do you have these?
So that we can test your abilities. Do you sense anything coming from them?
...Not long ago, dark forces began to permeate the Plateau. It came from the Human villages.
It affects all living things, amplifying their inner rage and hatred.
So that must be why they've been attacking the Suin?
Exactly. From what we can tell, this is how the Soil Breath tribe's diplomatic delegation was killed as well.
Then why didn't you tell the two tribes the truth? We need to go tell them immediately!
You saw them. Do you think they're capable of rational judgment right now? If you want to save those who have been overcome with rage and hatred...
I will have to use the power within the Autumn Sword...
Precisely. I heard from an informant that you used that power before you met the Soil Breath tribe.
Please, demonstrate that power once more...
*growling*
*hissing*
Huh...?! The dark energy within the karura just spread to the others!
Arunka... This power is dangerous... We cannot...remain conscious much longer...
Urghhh...
They've passed out? Then I have no choice...
If I'm to save them, I must use the power within the Autumn Sword.
But...how?
*sighing* I cannot win this fight with brute force.
Things may not be much better where Orte is either. I have to go help her...
If I can't break through here, I won't be able to do anything. I need the sword's power.
But I still don't know how to use it...!
Ugh...
Pull yourself together! You're chief of the Gold Eye tribe! You're too strong to let this darkness take you!
Aaaargghhhh!
Is that the choice you've made? It's...uninspired, but I guess that suits you.
The sword contains great power, but no, it is not sentient. As for me, I'm, How did you put it?, "strong, but stubborn and impossible to talk with." So...
You're the talented sorcerer, the first victor!
You've finally caught on! Yes. After the great war, I left a part of myself within the sword and have been waiting for the final war to come.
So that I may help the chosen one wield the sword's power.
The sword contains both power and will... It's just like...
The Goblet of Oath, yes. I made that too, after all.
Anyway, that's not the point. Arunka, I've been watching the victors for a long time.
Most of them were drunks or narcissists. None were even close to worthy.
But you are different. You lack in many ways, but you are determined to protect everyone in the coming war.
And you can succeed where even I failed, in uniting the Suin.
You think too highly of me. I'm not capable of that at all.
My choices have led to nothing but chaos and suffering. When have I ever done anything well?
You haven't, yet. I know. Nevertheless, I have chosen you.
But why...?
Because no matter what, you refuse to give up on your people. Above all else, that is what matters.
Now, tell me. Will you accept my power and be the final victor to lead the Suin?
Do you really think I can do it?
Well, I'll do my best to help you, but when it comes down to it, if your will falters, you will fail.
As owner of the Prairie, protecting everyone is my only duty.
It's the toughest thing I've ever had to do, but I refuse to give up.
Good. I've been waiting to hear that.
I can feel myself getting stronger...
But it's strange... It's not flowing into the sword, but elsewhere...
I'm channeling the power to where you will be able to make best use of it. Think of it as a gift from an ancestor.
But this looks a little...
Arunka, this is the last time I will speak with you. So please, allow me to make one final request...
No matter what happens, protect the Suin.
What happened...? I was overcome with some kind of extremely powerful consciousness...
Ah, you're awake? That's a relief.
Yes... The one the prophecy spoke of, who will bring new prosperity and the end of discord... It was you.
I'm not sure if I'm really that amazing, but I'll try my best.
The power that just spread... It's will has affected the other two tribes and all the wild creatures, right?
I'm certain of it. Fortunately, the fighting doesn't appear to have started in earnest yet.
But as soon as it does, their inner rage will grow, and it will be impossible to soothe.
Then we'll have to stop them before that happens. You know where they are, don't you?
Yes... It is a place where our three tribes once promised to unite.
Good. Please take me there.
Broad Wind Plateau, Harmony Field
They're already fighting. Are we too late?
Did you check what I asked you to?
Yes... As expected, a whole bunch of those crazed creatures are on their way here.
I see...they are being controlled deliberately. And their goal is...
What do we do now?
We have to get between the two armies. Follow me! Don't fall behind!
Do what you can to make an opening until I'm ready.
Will this really work? We're heavily outnumbered...
It will be fine. This isn't the same Arunka you knew. You're not scared, are you?
N-Never! I don't know the meaning of fear! Especially if I'm by Arunka's side!
I'd never have imagined this before, but I really am not the slightest bit afraid.
I know exactly what I must do, and what I'm capable of.
Come with me. We will bring an end to this senseless tragedy!
Finally, we can end this tedious conflict. Your cowardly tribe will not survive to see another day!
What pathetic rabble... I tried saving you out of affection for my own kind, but I'm ending this today!
KABOOM!
They're coming through this way? What the hell are you doing?
It has nothing to do with me. Look, they're attacking both of our tribes.
Wait, I know her...!
They're fighting with all they've got. Still, I'm glad I arrived while it was still salvageable.
What are you doing here? Did you decide to take their side after all?
Whatever the reason, there is no place for you here. Do not interfere.
Yes... There is definitely dark power within them, encouraging their feelings of hatred and rage.
Even without the influence of this darkness, there was resentment between your two tribes.
But it is clear that all of this would have been resolvable without bloodshed.
Your inability to find reason is not your fault, but if you can't come to your senses on your own, I'll have to help you!
That is why I accepted this power!
BOOM
Arunka is pushing back the darkness!
She shook the entire area with a single punch! A-And they've all stopped fighting!
Huh...? What was that light...?
Why do I feel...so calm all of a sudden?
Listen to me! This is no time for fighting!
There is a greater enemy coming this way. A shared enemy.
Kyeeek...!
They're coming at us from all sides!
We're completely surrounded! How could this happen...?
Get a hold of yourselves! Unless we all work together, we'll all die here!
How will that possibly get us out of this? We're doomed!
No! Do not lose hope! I'll take the lead, so just follow me!
I'm going to make sure everyone makes it out of this.
East Prairie, Arunka's Tent
Khan and Theranhad have begun advancing at the exact same time, as if they're synchronizing with each other.
Of course, we knew this would be coming, so we've prepared as much as we can, but...
It still won't be enough. We can't win...
What is it? Have we been attacked already?
N-No! You need to come see!
If it isn't urgent, I'll leave it to you to handle. I need to come up with a better battle plan.
Th-They've come! Just like they promised!
East Prairie, Arunka's Camp
Arunka. Have you been well?
You arrived at a critical moment.
If I'm being honest, I was beginning to think you weren't going to show up at all.
We're not so shameless.
Indeed. If not for you, even if we had survived that day, we would still be at each other's throats.
Not just that, but the Broad Wind Plateau itself could have died.
Please, you flatter me. I was only doing my duty.
I wasn't expecting you to be able to muster so large a force...
This war will determine the future of all Suin.
We were able to rally some smaller tribes to our side as well, just as you did here on the Prairie.
We're all prepared. What would you have us do?
I need you to do something for me as a detachment. Come this way, I'll explain everything.
We're set to meet again, Peira, on the field of war... As one who seeks to raze the Prairie, and one who seeks to protect it.
In the past, I would have seen only one way for this to end. But I'm not the old me.
I know what I must do, and how to achieve it.
*clenching*
This ends here. With these hands...
I will protect the Prairie, and take back what was lost.
