1. Challenge Pasio's Trainers: Part 1
162 linesYou wanna get better at sketching?
Yes! I started so I could observe Pokémon better.
But lately, I've found drawing itself to be fun!
So now I've become a bit more critical of my work.
I see! Then maybe...
Got it.
I can introduce you to someone!
My name is Hassel. I teach art classes at an academy in Paldea.
I also teach art here at Pasio Academy!
I heard from Rika you're trying to get better at sketching.
Yes! Would you mind giving me some lessons?
Not at all!
Today, I've invited a special guest to my class!
Special guest?
Hahahaha!
Hmph!
I have heard all about you adolescents!
After the appearance of the mysterious man, Hassel's art lesson began.
Allow me to introduce today's guest.
I am Brassius.
I am an artist specializing in Grass-type Pokémon. I am also a Gym Leader in Paldea.
He's created a few famous pieces, such as the Surrendering Sunflora.
If you have any questions for him, don't hold back!
It's nice to have you here teaching us, Mr. Brassius!
Hmm... I am no teacher, so no need for such esteem.
Teaching is a responsibility and burden I am unsuited for!
I am here because my mentor in life, dear Hass, asked me to be!
I am only a guest, please do not misunderstand.
Brassie and I go way back.
But enough about the past. Shall we begin?
First of all, it's important to take an interest in art, and enjoy it!
At the end of this lesson, I'd like all of you to show me your art!
I look forward to seeing what your eye for beauty produces.
All right! I've gotta draw something I can be proud of!
Oooh, everyone's having fun drawing!
We should join in!
Hmm... That student over there...
Hm... It's still not right...
It's about time to wrap up!
OK, everyone. What did you draw?
... ... ...
It's time to present our drawings!
What?!
U-um! Could I...not?
Oh? Why?
It may be a little awkward at first, but it's the fastest way to improve!
Knowing someone will see your work can help you better your skills.
But...I didn't have enough time, and it's not even complete...
Not avant-garde! You are mistaken!
B-Brassius?
Kris! Just because a work of art is incomplete doesn't mean you can't display it!
I understand the pain and the struggle, of being unhappy with your work but having to show it to others!
But your time this lesson was limited!
This assignment had a deadline!
Sometimes speed is critical! If you're unable to finish in a certain time, that's simply your limit as an artist.
Oh...
Why do you hang your head?
It is not a criticism.
Huh?
Today's deadline was for this lesson only!
It is the artist who decides whether their work is complete!
Some pieces are done in a matter of seconds!
But others may never be, even if the artist spends their whole life on it!
Thus, if you feel your art is incomplete...
then keep going! Spend all the time you need until YOU say it's complete!
... ... ...!
That said, you set your expectations far too high!
You love Pokémon so much, your vision surpasses your ability!
Oh...
So keep learning! And hone your eye for beauty!
That is why schools and teachers exist!
Right, Hass?
Indeed, Brassie!
You can come to me about art anytime, not just during class.
OK! I'll keep at it!
*sob*
Dear Brassie! You've given my students such a wonderful lesson...
THANGYU SO MUBCH!
BWUUUH huh huh hoi hoi!
You knew from the beginning, didn't you, Hass.
You realized Kris was in a slump, just like I once was.
Yes, but I knew you'd be a good influence, Brassie.
I truly believe that teaching, my chosen profession, is what I was born to do.
And as for you, Brassie...
Taking on the responsibility for such young, budding lives... It is still a weight I could not bear.
But...
If it's a request from you, Hass, I suppose I can't decline.
Days later...
Avant-garde! The ink you've used gives your work depth!
Thank you! I guess handwriting all those Pokédex entries finally paid off!
This painting roars like a dragon! Your style is dynamic!
I can tell you have a passion for Pokémon!
Hehehe! I'm glad my love of dragon Pokémon comes through!
I see... Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves.
Kris! How go your art studies?
Well, I've been challenging myself to draw all sorts of things.
And I'm still adding to that sketch I was working on before!
It's getting closer and closer to what I'd imagined!
It's, um...right here...
Oh! It's coming together!
That said, your expression is stiff! Try breaking out of your shell!
Yes, sir!
(Young sprouts truly do grow with astounding speed, yes...)
(Teaching is such a fascinating job!)
Have you found your very own treasure yet? Come back again sometime!
I once visited your gallery in Unova.
You lived up to your nickname, the Premier Insect Artist.
It was truly avant-garde, and the space was marvelously artistic!
Wow! I'm honored to receive a compliment from the Verdant Virtuoso himself!
I've heard a lot about you too, Brassius!
One day, I want to see Surrendering Sunflora with my own eyes!
Heheheh! You'll always be welcome in Artazon!
I wonder what we would make if we collaborated on an art piece!
I'd love to! What a challenge. I'd look forward to that!
With grass Pokémon as my motif and bug Pokémon as yours...
Although our work has its differences, our passion for art is the same!
M'hm!
Our different values and ways of thinking are precisely what would make a collaboration so good!
I hear you're studying art particularly hard even here on Pasio.
Yeah...
I decided my dream is to paint for a livin'... So I wanna take it seriously.
Very good! I'm pleased to hear that!
Could I ask you something, Teach?
It seems you enjoy this whole teaching gig, 'cause it's what you love to do.
But what's it really like?
Hmm...
Although being a teacher is fun, you're also responsible for guiding the lives of all your students...and that can be tough.
But whenever I see students like you grow...
I know it was worth it, from the bottom of my heart.
I see...
Then I guess I'll have to do my best, too.
I took time off as a student at the academy in Paldea.
But here on Pasio, I'm gonna take lots of classes.
Oh, right. When Pasio Academy was established...
Team Star was spearheading its foundation.
I... I didn't expect you all to have grown this much. I'm so moved...
Every day at Pasio Academy is so much fun!
There's so much to learn, I don't know where to start!
How about you think of a theme for your research?
Hm... Well...
Maybe I'll study Pokémon Eggs!
That's what Professor Elm studies back in Johto!
I like that! Pokémon Eggs, huh?
In that case, there are a few things I might be able to teach you!
The important thing is to focus on picnics!
Picnics? Really?
Yup!
In Paldea, Eggs are found while picnicking!
Wow, that's the first I've heard of that!
Pokémon Eggs sure are full of mysteries!
What are you most mindful of when expressing Pokémon through art?
I started drawing because I want to learn more about Pokémon.
Hmm... Let's see...
I filled my Gym with silk string and cocoons to better understand how bug Pokémon feel!
Huh?! Silk?! All over a Pokémon Gym?!
When enshrouded in a cocoon, you feel happy and secure, like you can become a new you!
Feeling things from a Pokémon's point of view... That seems kinda fun!
If I give that a try, I wanna be in a cocoon with a bug Pokémon!
That way, I can see what they do in there!
Fantastic idea! How you enjoy my art is entirely up to you!
Please visit Castelia Gym sometime!
I will! I'll stop by if I'm ever in Unova!
