Eager to learn more about team battling, Scottie made [EN:Gen Ref="255" M="his" F="her" ] way over to Professor Bellis's lab for some advice.

Professor Bellis

Oh! Hola, Scottie! Welcome to my lab! Thanks for coming.

So, how have you been? How are your team battles going?

Subarashii! That's great! It sounds like you've accomplished quite a lot in a short amount of time. I'd love to see what you can do...

Ganbatte! Keep at it! With your Pokémon by your side, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time!

As a matter of fact, I think I have an idea! Would you mind joining me for some fieldwork?

There's a trail in the mountains nearby that would be perfecto! Are you ready to leave now? Let's go!

All right! Let the fieldwork begin!

Why don't you try tapping someone on the shoulder and get to conversing! A happy smile and an "Alola!" should do the trick!

I see, I see... So you two have been building up your trust in one another for decades now? How wonderful!

Hiker

Yep, this one and I've been rollin' together all our lives!

Professor Bellis

Wonderful! You could almost pass for twins!

Hiker

Gahahaha! People don't say we look alike fer nuthin'!

Lass

Hmm... I wonder how I can get my hands on a sync stone...

They're so shiny and pretty... It'd be so cute if I could make one into a hair clip!

I heard they can only be found at a special spot in the ocean around Pasio!

Professor Bellis

Bravo! I can tell you've already formed an incredible bond with your Pokémon.

Speaking of which, has anyone told you how sync moves work or why we're able to use them here on Pasio?

It has to do with these things called sync stones.

Have you ever noticed that there's a shiny, rainbow-colored stone embedded in your Poryphone?

That's a sync stone. They're quite rare... in fact, they can only be found right here in the ocean where Pasio was built.

The interaction between sync stones and Pokémon is actually the prime subject of my research! It's quite brilliant...

Sync stones amplify the power that comes from the bond between a Trainer and their Pokémon. I call this "sync strength."

Tapping into that sync strength is what allows us to use sync moves, as you just demonstrated. That's what makes battling on Pasio special!

The more you and your Pokémon develop your sync strength, your bond, the happier you'll be as a sync pair!

In the end, that's the real reason I'm continuing my research! Now, focus on your sync strength and try using your sync move again!

Youngster

Hey, it's Professor Bellis! What'cha doin'?

Hm? Field...work?

Camper

Oh...yeah! Of course! Fieldwork! I love fieldwork, too!

Hiker

Er, why don't we have a Pokémon battle? You know, for fieldwork?

Camper

Remember, this is all in the name of fieldwork!

Youngster

All right! I'm goin' all out!

Camper

Aw, that's a shame. Maybe next time!

Fieldwork is something that gets us very excited!

Hiker

Oh, I get it! It's like a field day! They both got the word "field" in 'em, too!

Youngster

Oh, I get it now!

By the way, what is fieldwork?

Camper

Poké Fan

*gasp*

Your Pokémon was just so lovely that I couldn't help but stare! Here, take this as an apology.

Oh my! It's even more lovely up close!

Oh, I'm in love... Aren't Pokémon just the best? Let me look at your Pokémon again sometime!

Collector

Hey there, señorita.

Mi corazón is going doki doki because you're so belle, capisce? How about tú and je have a walk conmigo?

Professor Bellis

... ... ...

Sorry, I have no idea what you just said.

You have to use your words properly, or else no comprendo.

Collector

I can't believe that tu ne comprends pas... What is there to not understand?

Youngster

It's important for sync pairs to have strong bonds so that we can use sync moves! So we need sync strength! And a sync stone, of course!

Wait...is that right? I said the word "sync" so many times that I'm not sure anymore...

A-anyway, you have to use lots of regular moves before you can use your sync move, OK?! At least...that's what I heard!

Hiker

Hm? Are you lookin' for an opponent for a Pokémon battle?

Professor Bellis

Bingo! Yo quiero a great Pokémon battle!

Hiker

Er...yo...what? Speak English, Doc! We ain't scientists!

Anyway, you're lookin' for a battle, right?

Professor Bellis

Oui oui! I think this will be our last battle of the day!

What do you say we win this match and end our fieldwork with a bang!

Do your best, Scottie!

Hiker

You ready?

There you are. Are you ready?

Well then, let's get this rollin'!

Don't worry. We ain't goin' nowhere. We'll be here when you're ready.

Professor Bellis

Perfecto! My, my! You're really getting the hang of how Pokémon battles work here!

I'm glad I was able to observe you up close today. This impromptu fieldwork has been so helpful!

To create an even playing field, we've given every sync pair their own Poryphone to use while here on Pasio.

Since each Poryphone contains a sync stone, everyone has the ability to use sync moves.

And as I explained before, as your bond with your Pokémon grows, your sync strength as partners grows, too.

I'll be sure to share any new and helpful information I come across as I continue my research, OK?

For now, I think our fieldwork is complete! Danke very much, Scottie! Ta-ta!

I tend to babble on endlessly whenever the subject of sync pairs comes up!

But you see, it's my job as a researcher to spread the information I discover!

Mm-hmm... I expect magnifico things from you. I hope you go on to become a fantastique sync pair! Do your best!

Oh! I can tell that little boost of encouragement has really lifted your spirits.

If a passerby is kind enough to give you a morale boost, it can make you feel a little stronger for a while! Remember that!

Scientist

Therefore, we can conclude that communication is crucial in team battles!

Pokémon Ranger

So...what you're saying is the team members all have to be on the same page, correct?

Ace Trainer

Well, practice makes perfect... Hey, look! Some Trainers! Let's battle, my team against yours!

Pokémon Ranger

Hold on, I'm not ready! Don't go challenging people all on your own!

Ace Trainer

Oh shoot, right... Communication... Sorry, we're gonna need to take a rain check on that battle!
