Daya's Roost
Ah, welcome, Master.
Do you have something new to show off?
'Tis not a matter of boasting today. Rather, I have summoned thee to seek thy counsel.
My counsel? Is something wrong with the dragons?
That is ever a concern.
But more importantly... Tell me, Master, what wouldst thou do if an object thou didst not purchase were to appear in thy chambers?
I'd probably call Mayo first...
That sprite truly is remarkable.
Other than that, I'd try to find the owner.
I see. Then I cannot help but wonder who the true owner of this object might be.
Oh? There's one here?
Indeed. Right here, between thee and me.
Oh, it looks like Daya's Yearning is a ring.
At first, I thought that rogue Sist had left it behind, but it seems she cannot even perceive its presence.
Nor was it presented as an offering to me by anyone.
Stranger still, I cannot even grasp it with mine own hands. A curious object, is it not?
I explain to Daya that the object is a Yearning—a physical manifestation of her own desires.
'Tis an object I wish to possess?
That seems to be how it works usually.
Curious. There is little that I truly desire for myself.
Maybe it's something you wish to give someone else, then?
Could it be that I long to grant a gift?
I can't say for sure...
But I don't believe it's strange for a Yearning like that to exist.
A desire to give, say you...?
Daya is lost in thought for a brief moment.
What doth this appear to be in thy eyes, Master?
Uh... it looks like a ring.
Why? Does it look like something different to you?
Nay. I see what thou seest. Yet to my mind, it is of a wholly different nature.
Like what?
A tail ornament.
I burst out laughing before I can stop myself.
I g-g-guess that's another way of looking at it!
Indeed. We dragons possess tails, after all.
Yet, since thou hast called it a ring, it begins to resemble one to my eyes as well. Though its size remains quite ambiguous.
I don't exactly have a tail...
But what do tail ornaments mean to dragons, anyway?
I believe they hold a meaning similar to the rings of other races.
One placeth it where their eyes often fall, gifting it in hope that they shall think on thee.
Do dragons look at each other's tails that often...?
Well, let us say that they do. Though I am not of that mind.
To look upon one's tail, one must turn around. I greatly prefer to look forward.
Yes, a ring is far better.
Hm?
A ring is an object one can behold much more often while looking ahead.
I wish for those I cherish to look forward.
Aye... I hope this ring may find its rightful owner one day.
Wilt thou aid me until that day arrives, Master?
I nod in affirmation.
