Ah... I wanna clock out.
.........
I wanna clock ouuuuut! I wanna clock OUT!! I wanna CLOCK OUT!!!
Master, you've only started working ten minutes ago.
I know, but it's only natural to want to go home the moment you clock in.
I wish something would happen so that I have an excuse to skip work. Like someone detonating a bomb or someth—
BA-BOOM!
??!! That was not me!!!
Sorry? What was not you?
Oh, n-nothing... What's with the sudden explosion, though? Was it some kind of terrorist attack?
It wasn't an attack, but it was probably a bomb.
A bomb? Umm...
Marie?
She often sets off bombs like this.
Good gracious... there's already enough on our plates, and now we have to investigate what's happened.
That's too bad—Wait, hold on. I'll have a look into that!
You will, Master?
Yes! As the Master, I can't just turn a blind eye here. I'll leave no stone unturned!
So leave that to me, and please take care of everything else here.
W-Wait a minute! Master? Master!!!
Marie's House
We searched everywhere, but we couldn't find the suspect.
She might not have come home, so have a look around outside. I'll have another look here before I leave.
Understood, Master.
Hmm. The house seems fine, but...
The house is full of unidentifiable junk, but there is nothing of particular note.
Let's go up.
I go up and see Marie with her head poking through the roof.
Whooa! Master?! H-How did you find me?
I just had a feeling you'd be here for some reason.
Excuse me?
How did you get stuck there this time?
Aww, well...
I just had a thought that the best adventurer in the village shouldn't be afraid of rats forever.
So I tried to exterminate all the rats with a bomb and failed.
Oh... and then?
I thought I'd get caught if I tried to escape, so I tried the roof like last time... Wait, what are you writing?
An incident report.
Can you stop with that and come let me out? I've been stuck here for a while, and I'm hungry.
Uh... Here, have some of these mallows. I stole them from Erpin.
*Nom, nom, nom...* So delishus!
But still... I think it would be easier for you to just let me out instead of hand-feeding those to me.
Not happening.
Why? I promise I won't run away anymore.
No, it's not that...
If I catch you, I have to go back and work.
.........?
That means if I don't catch you, I don't have to go back.
And no one has found you but me until now.
???
So what I'm saying is, if I leave you here, I can continue to skip work and do whatever I want around the village.
With the excuse of "looking for" you, Marie! Ahahaha!
E-Excuse me?
Here, I'll put some more mallows in your mouth, just eat them and have them slowly melt in your mouth.
And I'll put a hat on your head to block the stinging sun. Oh! Now others might mistake you for some kind of rooftop decoration.
Master? Master??
Goodbye, Marie. See you next time! If you're still in one piece, that is.
Maaaaaaaster!!!!
Marie wasn't found until the next day. She was half unconscious and mumbling, "The Master is the no-good..."

Marie's House
What about this one, Master?
Rejected.
Then this one?
Denied.
Oh, how about that one?
Nope!
Aww...
Marie whines, lowering her three pride-filled creations.
Needless to say, they're all bombs.
And right now, I'm...
You say no to all of them... What then?
Please don't kill me.
Tied to a chair in the basement of Marie's house.
Why do you say that? I simply brought you here to ask for your help.
But you kidnapped me while I was asleep.
I wanted to be normal about it, but I couldn't because you were sleeping. That left me no choice.
Uh, okay, yeah, sure. You had no choice.
...You really thought I'd say that?!
How in the world did you figure out the palace's layout and sneak into my room?
Don't you know I'm "escape buddies" with Her Majesty? I've familiarized myself with the layout just by hanging around her!
Erpin, again?!
Sigh... Let me calm myself.
How did you open my door? It had triple locks on it to keep Mayo out.
Lockpicking is an essential skill for adventurers.
Ahem, I can pick the locks on your door in 5 seconds flat, Master.
.........
First, I'd like to apologize. Please forgive me.
I, uh... I'm sorry for leaving you hanging last time. I was going to free you soon, but then things...
But didn't you agree to make up for it by helping me with my experiment?
That's why I brought you here.
Only because I didn't know your "experiment" meant using me to see which bomb would cause the hottest explosion.
What...? Come on, you thought I would test them directly on you?
Hang on. Come to think of it, that might actually be better...
.........
Give in.
Tell Ner I'm sorry for slacking off. Tell Ashur I'm sorry for buying baked goods and secretly putting it on Erpin's tab. Tell Mayo I'm sorry for giving her Ner's hair instead of mine.
And tell Erpin, um... You know what, just bury her with me.
Put up a fight.
Lady Marie! Your lowly servant beseeches you on bended knee! Please spare me! I swear my undying loyalty to you!
It's just a joke, Master. I'm just going to blow them up nearby and, all you need to do is check the ambient temperature.
Why did you tie me up then?
Because you'll be in trouble if you move carelessly and get caught in the blast radius.
It's quite a delicate task to measure the radius where you can directly feel the temperature without getting caught in the blast.
I see... Um...
So I'll be in trouble if I move, er...
...Please forgive me! I'll get down and grovel!
It's all right, Master. You'll be safe, as long as you follow my instructions.
Still, there isn't much time left. I meant to test them one at a time, but...
This would've gone more smoothly if you had quickly decided which bomb we should test first.
Since it's come to this, I'll detonate all of them simultaneously from the front, back, and side at the same time to see which one is the hottest! Hold on for a moment!
M-Marie? Marie?? Lady Marie???
N-Noooo!!!
BA-BANG! BOOM! BANG!
Fortunately, the explosions aren't too big. I recoil my head to avoid the blasts, which end up getting a natural perm.
But I was so startled that I fainted. Apparently, when I was carried to the palace, I mumbled something like, "Marie is the no-good..."
3. Dungeon Exploration 1

Holy Chamber
Would you like to go explore a dungeon, Master?
Nope.
Wait! I just meant that I'd hate to do it alone. Of course I'd love to go!
Ehehe! Really?
Absolutely! Let's go!
Underground Dungeon
The underground dungeon was dark and quite mysterious. Marie skillfully started exploring it.
Oh...
What is it?
I was just taking in the fact that you're actually exploring the place.
Hey, I told you I'm the greatest sprite adventurer!
I may entertain Her Majesty occasionally, but I'm an adventurer by trade!
Yeah, yeah. I believe you, sure.
You don't believe a word of it, do you? Hmph! Ah...! Wait! Stand still and don't move your feet!
This... looks like a trap that's still active... If I do this...
Got it!! You can move now, Master.
Was it something dangerous?
Just a crude trap. It would've busted your ankle, that's all.
That's all...?
I'd better stay close to Marie.
A little later, at a dead end.
This looks like a dead end.
Not really. There's a gap in the wall if you look closely. There was a passage here, but someone blocked it off.
Hold the magic lamp for me while I take a look.
Hmm... If it's this thick... Considering the age of this place... a Type 3 Model should do the trick...
Marie examines the wall closely while muttering to herself. She then pulls out a bomb and attaches it to the wall.
That bomb looks familiar.
You recognize it? It's one of the bombs you helped measure the temperature of.
Ah, yes. That wonderful bomb that gave me a free hair singeing.
Step back. It's narrow in here, so the blast radius will be large.
I'm setting it off, okay? One, two, three.
BOOM!
It's just as expected. The passage has opened up quite nicely.
Impressive.
Ahem, of course it is! But it's also thanks to you for helping me with the bomb test, Master.
It was difficult to kidnap—I mean, to ask other sprites for help.
Anyway, if I hadn't tested it out before exploring this dungeon, things could've gotten ugly.
You had it all planned out, huh?
Of course! It definitely wasn't because you left me behind, Master.
Alright, let's continue on, shall we?
Sure...
As I continue to explore the dungeon with Marie, a question comes to mind.
Why did you have me tag along, though? I'm not doing anything other than holding the light.
If Erpin were here, she could've at least been useful as bait if a monster popped up, no?
Well... because you don't set off traps out of boredom, or take bombs from me just to set them off yourself.
And you're smart too. You've solved all sorts of problems.
Smart, huh...?
No one's complimented me in a while, so that's nice to hear, even if it's Erpin she's comparing me to.
...Why do I have a feeling that she just jinxed us?
And then suddenly, the Fire Nation—I mean, a monster—attacked!
Wait! If you blow that up here, this whole place will collap—
KABOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
Run!
The dungeon collapses very quickly in the wake of the explosion.
We run as fast as we can, but as the dungeon caves in, we are buried alive.

Underground Dungeon
Cough, cough! M-Master? Are you okay?
.........
Master? Master!
.........
.........
Actually, I didn't lose consciousness.
I was already on my back, so I thought I'd just take a rest anyway, but then I fell asleep and couldn't wake up in time.
Wh-What do I do...? It's all my fault... I made a mistake...
No other sprites are around to help us, either—wait... No one else is here...! There are no witnesses...
Should I just ditch—
Urgh!
O-Oh! Have you come to your senses now, Master?
Yes, my head is as clear as day all of a sudden!
I had a dream where a friend I trusted completely abandoned me.
What? No wonder it felt so cramped.
Looking around, I see that we've been trapped by a wall of rocks.
At least there's enough space for air to circulate, so that's a bit of a relief.
Although, I'm not sure "relief" fits when we can't do anything in here...
What do we do now... any ideas?
Hmm...
What if we move the stones one by one?
Right now, we have some room, but if we move even one wrong rock, it could all come crashing down.
I'll be fine, but you might not make it through, Master.
Hmm...
I feel like we're missing something... Normally, we'd have figured something out by now...
Let's use a bomb!
That... wouldn't work.
There's not enough space... and we'd get caught in the blast too, most likely...
And like I just said, one wrong move and it'll be game over.
Yikes...
I'm so sorry...
If only I hadn't gotten that last bomb wrong...
And I was so proud of myself for being Sprite Kingdom's greatest explorer...
Now I've only dragged you into my mess, too...
Hey...
Marie...
Listen to me carefully.
Explosions are an art!
Art is an explosion!
Sorry...?
Your bombs are works of art. The explosions they create are as beautiful as any visual masterpiece.
You are the only one in Sprite Village who can do this. No other sprite! Only you.
In other words, you are a master of explosions.
What are you trying to say?
To have confidence in yourself.
I know that you can create a masterpiece of a bomb designed solely to take down that wall.
.........
Y-You think...?
Wait, no...! I'll do my best!
If I mix types 3 and 2, which I've tested on you before, in just the right ratio and place them in the gap... it might work.
Marie pulls out her bombs, carefully mixes a little from each to make a new one, and fits it into a gap in the rock wall.
After she sets a few more of these in a few more places, she calmly lights the fuse.
Pop! Bang, bang!
The sound of air being sucked out can be heard, and then slowly, the rock wall begins to crumble.
It worked! We have a way out, Master!
We're saaaaaved!!
Sprite Forest
We make it safely out of the underground dungeon. I ask Marie if the adventure didn't live up to her expectations, but she smiles and says we can always return another time.
And thus, our dungeon exploration ends on a good note.
That is until I found out that Marie made everything up about Ner offering a special wage for the exploration.

Marie's House
A bomb goes off at Ashur's Bakery.
You have the right to remain silent.
I-I didn't do anything wrong!
You have the right to talk to a lawyer—do they even have lawyers here? Oh, whatever!
Go ahead, let's hear what you have to say.
Well, I was only—
Just the facts, ma'am... lying is a sin, you know!
I'm trying to explain!
All I do is make bombs, I swear! Mayo is the one who sells them for me!
Selling them myself would leave me no time for my adventures!
So, you're saying you didn't bomb Ashur's Magic School— Bakery, I mean?
Exactly!
And the fact that we found traces of your bomb there is because Mayo sold them for you?
Eh, I can't be bothered.
Besides, I don't need to.
Why not?
Because I already know Erpin did it. She blew up the ledger to wipe out her tab.
I just came here as an excuse to skip out on work for a bit.
I was bored.
.........
No way!!!
That's going way too far!!! How in the world...?! Seriously, how dare you?!
Eek! Wh-What are you talking about?
It felt like someone had a very insulting thought!
Anyway... Were you making bombs again?
Of course!
Thanks to you, Master, I realized the potential of small seismic bombs!
Also, what you said about how my bombs are works of art really gives me motivation!
Take it easy... Otherwise, you'll find yourself becoming a crazed bomber, saying things like, "When Sprite Kingdom is in... ashes... Then you have my permission to go to the Weekend Farm!"
No way. I'm a respectable explosives master, you know!
Right, right.
How did you get so good with bombs anyway? Did someone teach you?
No, I'm self-taught.
Back in the days when I used to mess around and cause trouble, I got the idea to crack open bank vaults, and that's where it all started.
...What?
They used to call me "Sleight-of-Hand Marie" back then. I was pretty notorious, so the other sprites would steer clear of me.
Of course, it was mostly due to all the wanted posters of me that were up everywhere...
.........
I apologize if I ever got on your bad side, Marie! Please don't hurt me!
Wh-Why are you groveling like that all of a sudden?! Stop! Please!
It's all in the past! I've cleaned my hands of that life a long time ago!
I don't commit crimes anymore!
Well, except for the occasional explosions.
.........
Marie spends a long time convincing me that she is completely done with her criminal past.
I eventually decide to take her word for it, but that is the day I finally realize just how dangerous that little bomber sprite is.

Holy Chamber
Have you heard, Master?!
I'm hands-deep in work, while your hands hold a marshmallow.
Time to act your age and make use of those idle hands!
What the heck? Did you hurt your head or something?
Just seeing you made my blood boil and gave me a headache.
No, I have not. Thanks to a certain someone, Ner and I have been swamped with work.
Aww, poor Master... I feel sorry for you, so I'll just tell you...
They say that Marie built a bomb with a blast large enough to engulf the entire village in flames!
What?
What did they call it again...? Um... Anyway, it's basically a bomb with a cannon to launch it.
That doesn't sound too good...
Did you hear anything about when she's planning to launch it?
.........
She definitely was in the middle of making a lot of bombs the last time I visited...
Let's go, Erpin!
MARIEEEEE!!!!
Secluded area on the outskirts of Sprite Village
Huff, huff! I finally found you, Marie!
It's over, Marie! I know everything about your plans!
My what? I was just getting ready to launch this—
Exactly that!
I knew someday you'd maniacally say, "This is the way the world ends, not with a whisper but a bang!"
...Me?
Just relax and put the bomb down. It's not too late.
If you give up now, we can pretend this never happened.
No way! Do you know how hard I worked to make this? This is the best bomb I've ever made!
I can't stop now! I'm definitely launching it!
I see we're going to have to do this the hard way, then!
Erpin! I choose you! One-Million Volts!
E-ka, e-ka! E-ka-piiiin!!!
Marie loads the bomb into the cannon, while Erpin's magical attack lands squarely on the fuse and sets it alight.
Erpin!!!! What are you doing?!!!
BOOM! Fwoooosh!
The bomb launches from the cannon and soars high into the sky above Sprite Kingdom.
Gah! Is this really the end?!
How could you do something like this?!
Boom! Crackle! Pop-pop-pop! Boom! Pop-pop-pop-pop! Boooom!
Fireworks decorate the sky.
Art is an explosion!!!!!
The sky behind Marie is filled with bursting fireworks as she spreads her arms wide and smiles.
Oooo! Whoaaaa!!!
So pretty...
We stand mesmerized, captivated by the fireworks spreading across the night sky.
Do you like it?
Huh? Yeah... I'm sorry for doubting you.
It's okay. I actually didn't tell you about it on purpose because I wanted to surprise you.
I'm so glad that you and Her Majesty both enjoyed my best bomb!
You've helped me find joy in life, Master, so I wanted to show my appreciation somehow.
The only thing I really know how to do is make bombs, so I really put my all into this one. Ehehe!
Thanks for everything, Master.
Marie smiles.
It shines brighter than all the fireworks in the sky.
