The type of battle you just saw is called a Rotation Battle.

In this format, both Trainers send out three Pokémon that can rotate positions throughout the battle.

At the Battle Maison, I am in charge of this format.

My Virizion is also adept at Rotation Battles.

Apparently there is a legend in Unova that says Virizion protected its friends alongside Cobalion and Terrakion...

Even in my Rotation Battles, those three Pokémon show off incredible teamwork when they support each other.

Maybe that's because they have as strong a bond as the legends say.
