17 linesGoku did his best to take on Raditz single-handedly while Piccolo gathered Ki. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't long before Raditz had Goku on the ropes... But suddenly, sensing the danger his father was in, Gohan exploded with rage!

The power unleashed by Gohan's unfettered rage dealt enormous damage to Raditz, changing the course of the battle... Goku made use of this opportunity and grabbed Raditz from behind, giving Piccolo a chance to use his new attack. Goku was prepared to give up his own life!
Goku's self-sacrifice coupled with Piccolo's brand-new Special Beam Cannon was just enough to fell the mighty Raditz. Trusting that his friends would resurrect him via the Dragon Balls, Goku breathed his last breath...
Meanwhile, in a remote region of outer space... Upon learning of Raditz's death and the existence of the mysterious Dragon Balls, a certain pair of Saiyans had decided to head to Earth!
Raditz...is dead...
He deserved it...
Killed by power levels barely over a thousand...
What's the plan? Should we leave this planet for later and head there now?

32 linesKrillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu and Yajirobe headed to Kami's Lookout in order to begin an intense training regimen for the Saiyan threat that was due to arrive in a year.
Elsewhere, Piccolo had realized that Gohan's strength would be required to defeat the two Saiyan invaders, and so he took Goku's son into the wilderness to begin his own personal training.

20 linesOn seeing the full moon, Gohan lost all sense of reason and began rampaging mindlessly! Using his quick wits, Piccolo first destroyed the moon to turn Gohan back to normal, then he removed the boy's tail.

42 linesAfter King Kai's brutal training, the time to fight the Saiyans was drawing near! Newly revived thanks to the power of the Dragon Balls, Goku made his way back to Earth where his friends were waiting!

22. Vegeta's Transformation, after the battle
20 linesThe "Spirit Bomb", Goku's final ace, courtesy of King Kai. By gathering together the energy from all living things, it imbued any who wielded it with immense power.
However, just as Goku was gathering Ki to unleash the Spirit Bomb, Vegeta managed to attack him, causing the move to fail! Goku's last-ditch resort had served only to stoke Vegeta's rage...

Enraged, Vegeta's relentless attacks were about to spell Goku's end. Sensing Goku's peril, Gohan and Krillin returned to the battlefield. They attempted to cut off Vegeta's tail and return him to normal, but their plan ended in failure... Just as it seemed as if all hope was lost...
