However, Goku ignored the admonitions of Beerus and Whis, going directly to Zen-Oh in hopes of getting the inter-universal tournament under way.

We should do the tournament! It'll be loads of fun!

Yeah, loads and loads!

Once the date and other details have been finalized, we will inform the Supreme Kais of each universe.

At last, the Tournament of Power would come to pass on the 35,500,603rd day of the 157th hour in the year 3.1 billion of the Oh Calendar, ten selected warriors from each universe would vie for ultimate cosmic supremacy!

The tournament was to be held in the World of Void. Entrants spanned eight universes, with a total of eighty combatants. And the prize for the warrior to attain first place... The Super Dragon Balls! As for the defeated universes, however...

The penalty for defeat...

...is complete erasure of that universe by Zen-Oh himself.

And so, the greatest tournament in all existence was set to begin. Whether they knew or not of the clash to unfold, the gears of fate had already begun to turn for our dear heroes...

In order to better understand what a martial arts tournament entails, a string of exhibition matches were scheduled at Zen-Oh's behest, a prelude of sorts for the battle royale to come.

The exhibition called for Universes 7 and 9 to provide three combatants each. Representing Universe 7 were none other than Goku, Gohan, and Majin Buu, strong contenders all.

Hey, Goku! When's the fighting start?

Yeah, I can't wait to see!

Wow, that was fun!

Super fun!

It would seem that Lord Zen-Oh is pleased.

I declare the winner of this first exhibition match... Majin Buu, from Universe 7!

The first exhibition match concluded with Majin Buu's victory. For the second match, Gohan took the stage. And his opponent...?

Heh heh heh!

Both fighters are down! I declare the second match... a draw!

The second exhibition pitted Gohan from Universe 7 against Universe 9's Lavender. Though robbed of his vision, Gohan quickly adapted, mustering a valiant fight. But, in spite of this, both he and his opponent's strength expired.

Next up, the third exhibition match!

This will be our final exhibition.

What abilities does Universe 9's Bergamo wield? With the clash for universal survival on the horizon, we enter the third exhibition. How will Goku fare...?

Sheesh, man! Can't we be a tad more civil about this?

The fate of this entire universe rests on Goku and his friends. Now all we can do is hope.

The tournament was to start in a mere forty hours. Tasked with recruiting ten of Universe 7's finest fighters, will Goku be able to pull through?

The Tournament of Power, a battle royal pitting fighters from eight universes... and the teams that lose will have their universe erased. Goku and crew returned to Earth to assemble a team of ten fighters worthy of taking to the arena.

With the battle for the universe not far off, a scant team came together. Goku, Gohan, Majin Buu, Piccolo, and Vegeta... Still five more fighters were needed for entry. And so, Goku sought out his old friend Krillin for assistance.

Krillin was now on the Universe 7 roster. Next, Goku sought out #18, crafting a white lie about a large sum of prize money... Fortunately, he was successful.

#17?

The last time we spoke on the phone, he was working as a ranger at a nature reserve.

The journey to assemble the universe's finest ten continued. With only thirty-eight hours left until the tournament, would Goku be able to bring #17 into the fold?

Goku had successfully added Krillin and #18 to the team. The Tournament of Power, however, required ten fighters for entry. Our hero set off for his next destination...

With the tournament at hand, tensions were high. Goku continued to scour the planet gathering the strongest of the strong. Thirty-seven hours remained until the tournament, and the clock was ticking...

In search of more fighters to join the Tournament of Power, Goku's journey brought him to #17's remote abode, a distant island, where the android now worked as a nature ranger.

Upon hearing Goku's explanation of the tournament, #17 agreed to cooperate. This was, in part, his way of repaying the Saiyan for his aid in repelling a band of poachers earlier that day.

At long last, #17 had joined the ranks of Team Universe 7! With twenty-three hours and twenty minutes until the tournament, can Goku gather the remaining fighters required for entry...?

Next on Goku's recruitment list were Master Roshi and Tien, bringing the Saiyan to his tri-clops friend's new dojo.

With the dojo incident safely behind, Goku now had Master Roshi and Tien on as team members for the tournament.

It was a mere eight hours before the tournament. Buu, Piccolo, #17, #18, Krillin, Tien, Vegeta, Master Roshi, Gohan, and Goku, Universe 7's ultimate team was set for the ultimate clash!

While Goku was scouring the planet for able warriors, Gohan was training with Piccolo in anticipation of the tournament. For the final phase of his training, Gohan issued his father a challenge...

Dad, Tien, I need your help with something.

I need to know my current strength!

Four hours and thirty minutes until the battle for the universe's very fate unfolds! A complete team of ten was ready to represent Universe 7 in combat. However... It so happened that Buu fell into a slumber so deep, nothing could awake him...

We're clean out of time! We need a fighter, NOW!

Frieza?!

This was a twist no one could have predicted, Goku suggesting Frieza for the tenth fighter! But how would the evil emperor react to such an offer?

The fighter Goku suggested to take Buu's place as the tenth member was none other than... Frieza! And so, Goku's trek next brought him to the depths of hell itself, the evil emperor's eternal prison.

Goku explained his offer regarding the tournament. As expected, however, Frieza was not one for silent compliance. The emperor had a condition of his own.

Goku, having accepted Frieza's offer in return for his aid in the tournament, next sought out Baba, who had the means to revive Frieza for twenty-four hours.

Get him outta here. And be quick about it!

Sorry to intrude. There are some gentlemen outside who insist on meeting you two.

The universe's greatest menace returned to the realm of the living! What's more, his already terrifying power had multiplied! And though Universe 7 had gained a powerful asset, would Goku's friends be able to accept him as an ally?

Universe 7 had, at long last, assembled a complete team of ten fighters. Still, all were aware of Frieza's potential for treachery... But regardless of this less-than-ideal situation, the tournament's commencement was nigh.

Ugh! Mortals and their incessant lollygagging...

HURRY UP! We're outta time!

You? Order me around? That's rich.

Don't think this settles our little score, Saiyan!

A draw, eh?

It seems that Frieza has the power to back up his mouth.

The addition of Frieza, though dangerous as ever, marked the completion of Universe 7's team. Amidst a flurry of excitement and intrigue the battle to decide the fate of eight universes, the Tournament of Power, was finally at hand!

Having won Frieza's cooperation with a show of force, Goku returned to Gohan and company, his tenth fighter in tow. All the chosen fighters from Universe 7 were to meet at last...

My, my. What a bevy of familiar faces.

But of course, Lord Beerus.

Oh, but surely you would wear it even better.

Perhaps I can arrange for one... A gift from me to you.

I swear, it's in one ear and out the other with them!

Was I not sufficiently clear? I do NOT take orders from you.

Team Universe 7 was ready for battle! Meanwhile, construction for the arena in the World of Void was complete. The stage was literally set for the ultimate test of power!
