Videl's Flying Technique Tutorial
10 scenes, 216 lines
1. Hero of Hercule City, before the battle
13 linesHercule, history's most famous hero, and savior of Earth from Cell's clutches... His gallantry seemed to be a hereditary trait, with his only daughter Videl taking it upon herself to patrol the streets in between classes.
It just so happened that one day Gohan transferred to Videl's very high school, a development which curiously coincided with the appearance of a new hero in Hercule City. They called him: the Great Saiyaman. Videl could not help but become fixated with uncovering the vigilante's identity...
Who are you, for real?!
Who am I? I already covered that.
Evildoers run in fright when I take to the fight! I am Great Sa-...
I'm being serious!
Uh, yeah. So am I.
Your get-up's super dorky, but you can fly and pack a wallop to boot.
You're no normal human being. I'd stake money on that!
.........
Well? Not gonna spill it, huh?
Um. No?
Grrr! The more you resist the more I HAVE to know who you are!
2. Hero of Hercule City, after the battle
12 linesSo, Gohan. How'd you manage to sneak out of class?
Oh, that. I said I had to go to the bathroom.
So I better get back soon.
I knew it!
Knew what?
Quit pretending! You're Gohan!
Aw, crud. Cat's out of the bag now...
Videl's keen sleuthing skills had finally unraveled the Saiyaman's mask, revealing him to be none other than Gohan. In exchange for keeping his secret under wraps, Videl demanded Gohan enter the World Tournament. Yet there was another request...
Hey! I want you to teach me how to fly.
It's not fair if only you get to fly.
Oh... Sure...
Videl had found herself a new martial rival in the form of Gohan. The prospect of her eventual match against him and the enticing gift of flight gave a new focus to her fighting career...
3. Intensive Training Begins!, before the battle
26 linesHaving impelled Gohan into teaching her the art of unaided flight, Videl made for Mt. Paozu, the site of the young Saiyan's abode.
Wow. How'd you even find this place?
I should be the one asking questions! Why did you cut school like that?!
You said you'd teach me to fly!
R-Right... I was still planning to...
Gohan! Is it true this girl's entering the World Tournament too?!
Yeah, Mom. She is.
I mean, she's the one who told me about the tournament in the first place.
Well, all right then.
But you'd better not be thinking you're gonna use this to snag him!
E-Excuse me?!
Aha! I know what you're up to!
Its all frolicking and innocent fighting fun at the tournament, 'til...BAM! You pop the question on the poor boy!
Of all the zany...!
Who gets married at the World Tournament, anyway? That's mental!
Oh? That's pretty much what happened with my parents.
Huh?
G-Goten? Son? You're embarrassing me in front of our guest.
There's weird... and then there's this.
Fighting with Goku at the tournament... and then marrying him! (sigh) It all seems like yesterday!
But that doesn't mean you have free reign to do the same to MY son!
Geez Louise, lady! You're bonkers if you think I'd pull a stunt like that!
I'm not interested in your son or embarrassing myself in front of the freakin' world!
Now, now, you two. There's no need to fight about something that hasn't nor will ever happen!
Enough with this nonsense!
I came here to learn how to fly! Now hurry up and teach me!
4. Intensive Training Begins!, after the battle
31 linesUnder Gohan's tutelage, Videl began to learn the intricacies of Ki control. Thanks to her arts upbringing, she was instantly able to grasp the basics, and before long... was levitating.
You did it!
You're floating!
Shut up!
I can't concentrate!
Great job!
You learned to float in just one day!
Is it that great...?
From the looks of it your kid brother is already zooming around like a souped-up fighter jet.
O-Oh, him. Goten's had Ki control down from the very start.
Get to his level and you'll own the skies too! I guarantee it!
I'll come again tomorrow.
What?! Why?! You got over the hard part...
You can do the rest by yourself...
I want to know more about Ki.
Or do you not want me around?!
Th-That's not what I meant...
Then see you tomorrow!
Oh, right. Can I make a teeny suggestion? ...About your hair.
I think you should cut it short.
What?
You like girls... With short hair?
Huh?! N-no! It's just that short hair would be better in a fight...
Long hair could get in your eyes! Or the other guy could pull on it...
.........
What I do with MY hair is MY business, thank you very much!
The next morning... Videl showed up at Gohan's doorstep for further flight training just as she said she would, but with one noticeable difference: her long locks had transformed into a sporty short cut.
Uh, Gohan? Who's that?
Woah!
Come on! Let's pick it where we left off!
I can't make heads or tails of this girl!
5. Videl Learns to Fly, before the battle
11 linesApproximately ten days had elapsed since Videl's first flight lesson at Gohan's. No longer did she require Gohan's guidance. The fighting damsel was flitting through the skies freely... all on her own.
Well? Whaddya think of my skills?
Great! You're a certified flyer now.
I have nothing left to teach you.
Thanks, Gohan.
Now I can finally shift focus to training for the tournament.
Yep! Same.
But first...
Huh...?
I'd like to test my knowledge of Ki in the field!
Fight me, Gohan! Here I come...!
6. Videl Learns to Fly, after the battle
24 linesMy dad says I can't go out with anybody weaker than him. But of course everybody's weaker.
You're pretty good, Gohan, but you're nowhere near dad.
Ha ha.
Do you practice with your dad at all?
Of course not. He's too good. He IS the world champ, after all.
He hasn't given me a lesson in years. This is all self-taught.
I knew it... Videl hasn't realized...
...how much stronger she is than Hercule...
On that note, who'd you learn martial arts from, Gohan?
You could say... a family friend? Of sorts. And my dad. Before he died.
Huh..?
Was your dad pretty strong, too?
You bet. He was strong. Super strong.
Ooh, that reminds me! He'll be coming back for a day, to fight in the tournament!
What? Coming back?
I thought you said he was dead?
G-Goten, you idiot...!
I told you not to tell!
It's all coming together. Your dad, he... He...! ...He ran out on you guys, didn't he?
But told you guys in secret that he'd be entering the tournament. Am I right?
Uh... Well...
Say no more. Parents, huh? Believe me, I understand.
But never mind all that! Let's get back to training!
With new abilities and new friends to rely on, Videl was stronger than ever. But with the World Tournament around the corner, she would still have to hone her strength. And so, her training continued...
7. Videl vs. Spopovich, before the battle
9 linesWith none other than Gohan mentoring her in the art of flight, Videl soon found herself taking to the skies. Now all that remained was to complete the final leg of her training solo.
Soon, the day of the World Tournament was upon our heroes! Videl's first opponent was the towering bruiser Spopovich, who lost to her father in the first round of the previous tournament.
Next up, our third match! I give you Videl versus... Spopovich!
Good luck, Videl!
Thanks!
See you in the second round, Gohan!
Thanks!
(grunt) (growl)
Bring it. I didn't come here to lose!
8. Videl vs. Spopovich, after the battle
35 linesThat's a clean hit! The elite warrioress never ceases to amaze!
(pant) (pant)
But Spopovich refuses to stay down!
He's built like a tank!
No way...!
Gaaaaaah!
Against all expectations, Spopovich hits back with enough mettle to even the odds and then some! A hefty blow from Spopovich sent Videl hurtling from the stage. Luckily, she was able to avoid disqualification via ring-out thanks to her newly acquired flying skills.
Look at that! She's flying, folks!
Videl is still in the game!
(pant) (pant)
Yeah, Videl! Attaway!
I taught her that, you know?
Maybe a ring-out would have been for the best...
Huh?
Something's wrong about this Spopovich...
He's taken loads of damage, yet shrugs it off like nothing. It's like he's got no life in him.
Wh-What now? Can you elaborate?
Wish I could, but I'm still in the dark myself.
Ooh hee hee...
Darn it. I don't wanna lose.
I can't!
With each passing instant, Videl's ability to contend with Spopovich's unnatural strength waned. What's more, as Videl began to break under the sadistic titan's barrage, Gohan's fury neared its boiling point...
That's it... Now he's gone too far!!!
Enough fooling around! End it there, Spopovich!
...!
This isn't what we set out to do.
Just get the win over with.
Hmph. Fine!
Out of b-bounds...! Spopovich wins!
V-Videl!
Nrgh... Rrrk...
G-Gohan... Beat him... ...for me...
Say no more! So long as I win this next match, I'll see Spopovich in the upcoming bracket.
Then he'll be sorry!
The third match of the World Tournament had come to a most unexpected end in Spopovich's victory. With Videl in critical condition, Gohan's rage had ballooned into an inferno. But would the half-Saiyan be able to get past his first foe and exact the vengeance he so sought?
9. Videl and Gohan, before the battle
5 linesThough the bout with Spopovich had left her badly beaten, ingesting the odd bean she received from Gohan had Videl instantly up and about once more.
Wow... I'm all better!
Next, ladies and gents, is our fourth bout... Kibito versus the Great Saiyaman!
Gohan's up next!
I'm rooting for you, Gohan!
10. Videl and Gohan, after the battle
50 linesYamu and Spopovich bouldered into the ring, siphoning Gohan's energy before vanishing from the arena. Shin, along with Goku and friends, blasted off in pursuit of the assailants. Meanwhile, Kibito tended to the fallen Gohan, restoring his vitality with one wave of the hand.
That should do the trick, my boy.
...!
Gohan, are you all better?
S-Seems so.
By the way... Who ARE you?
Come with me.
I'll explain everything.
...
Can I come with you?
Huh?
There's so much I want to know.
...Please.
...
I wouldn't recommend it. Something bad's about to go down. I can feel it.
Just let me tag along. I won't get in your way.
I'll follow you even if you say no!
...
Will you promise you'll pull out if it gets dangerous?
Promise!
...All right.
Come on.
Kibito explained that the mastermind behind the day's dark events was a sinister wizard by the name of Babidi. Babidi's ultimate aim was the revival of Majin Buu, a demonic entity who once plunged the entire universe into butchery and ruination.
Yamu and Spopovich were under orders from Babidi to infiltrate the World Tournament and harvest energy to fuel the dreaded demon's awakening, and it was Gohan's energy that they decided to take.
Sorry, Videl, but you really should turn back.
Before things can improve, they're about to get worse. Way worse.
You may be right there. As of now, I'm no more than a liability.
...But I hate to admit it.
Thanks for understanding.
When you get back to the arena, fill in my mom and Goten on what's happening, would you?
Will do.
One thing though... The golden warrior, that was you, wasn't it?
...Yeah.
I'm sorry I lied... I didn't want anyone to know...
Your friends were at the battle with Cell seven years ago...
And you were the little kid with 'em, huh?
...
You got me.
And it wasn't my dad who defeated Cell. It was you guys...
...wasn't it?
Er, uh...
...I knew it. Don't feel like you have to protect my dad.
I always felt like there was something fishy about that story. At least I know the truth!
Good luck, Gohan! Teach that Babidi a lesson!
You bet!
I'll be waiting for you back at the arena!
Okay!
...Be careful, Gohan...
If you come back safe... I'm gonna ask you out!
Until recently, Gohan had been nothing more than a classmate to Videl. But now, he was something much more. As the two parted ways, Videl found herself praying the separation was merely temporary, and Gohan would soon be back safe and sound.
