Fight Against Despair! (2020)

They're probably going to land somewhere around here.

Even the revived Frieza was no match for Goku's Super Saiyan might. A spell of peace followed. However, Goku fell victim to an incurable disease and died... And so begins the story of another future...

Goku was dead... Everyone kept their sorrow hidden away and for a while peace prevailed. Then, six months later, two new menaces showed up on a southern isle...

Their names were Android #17 and Android #18, built by the scientist Dr. Gero, formerly of the Red Ribbon Army.

After delivering a brutal end to their creator, the androids embarked on a monstrous spree of destruction and carnage, plunging the planet and its population into despair...

However, Earth's guardians were not ones to stand idly by as the androids wreaked havoc upon their home world. We turn our attention to Piccolo...

Piccolo knocked Gohan out and went to challenge the androids alone. However, he was helpless against them, and succumbed to defeat.

The Dragon Balls disappeared after Piccolo's death. Resurrecting fallen warriors was now out of the question...

Android #17 and #18 continued their destructive rampage...

Warriors capable of standing up to their tyranny were a thing of the past. Or were they...?

Darn it... Kakarot!

Why did you have to die like that?!

How unfortunate...

Vegeta was dead... And so were Yamcha, Tien and Krillin... Thirteen grim years passed...

Thirteen years had elapsed since the death of Piccolo, Vegeta and the others... A fully-grown Gohan and Vegeta's son Trunks, devoted themselves to training day in and day out to keep the android menace at bay.

With Trunks knocked soundly out, Gohan left to challenge the androids alone. He left just one small hope behind...

Ah...ah... G-Gohan...

Huh?!

Now it was Gohan's turn to fall to the merciless androids... The sight of his beloved mentor's corpse left Trunks howling in pain.

At long last, Trunks had awakened his Super Saiyan power. The sacrifice required for this gain, however, was a massive one indeed... Time marched on. Three years passed...

Trunks!

I finally charged the time machine with enough energy for a return trip!

Mom... I... I think I am strong enough to defeat the androids now.

We don't need to go back in time for research...

I disagree. It's true that you're much stronger now.

But you haven't forgotten that 3 years ago, Gohan was killed, have you?

...I'm going! I'll defeat them, you'll see!

Hey, Trunks, wait!

Gohan! I'm finally going to avenge everyone!

I'm coming for you, androids!

Heh heh.

Time to finish you off!

My mom was right... I still have a long way to go before I can defeat these guys...

When my injuries heal, I'll get straight in the time machine.

First, you need to go back 17 years to find Gohan's dad and give him this medicine.

Everything would be wildly different if only Goku hadn't died.

Was he really that strong?

He was strong, no doubt about it.

But it's more than that. He had this uncanny ability to put others at ease.

No matter how grim things got, we knew we could count on him.

And with that, Trunks boarded the time machine, heading back in time. Little did he know, an entirely new clash awaited him...

Goku narrowly evaded a brush with death thanks to Trunks' medicine. But the hero's survival altered the course of history, meaning a new future was about to begin.

Cell, another android who came from the future, was here to absorb Androids #17 and #18, thereby achieving his Perfect Form. The history that Trunks knew, was about to change drastically...

I... I want to train with my dad.

In order to face this unprecedented danger, Trunks and his father, Vegeta, decided to train in the Chamber of Spirit and Time.

...However, the Vegeta that Trunks had envisioned was very different from the father that stood before him...

Having concluded their training in the Chamber of Spirit and Time, Vegeta and Trunks were now locked in fierce battle with Cell. During the clash, however, Cell succeeded in reaching the Perfect Form he so sought.

Cell's Perfect Form was unstoppable, pushing Vegeta into a corner. But before Cell could deliver the final blow, Trunks intervened, his full power unleashed.

I'm going to kill you, Cell!

Trunks' power had improved exponentially... Unfortunately this drastically reduced his speed. Cell's critique of Trunks' battle plan was spot-on.

Stripped of all hopes of winning, Trunks conceded defeat... However, his interest piqued by Vegeta and Trunks' dramatic improvements, Cell made a proposal.

The tournament was a sadistic game pitting Cell against any and all challengers. In the event of his victory, all humans on Earth were to be executed. And thus, each of them retreated to spend the next ten days in their own way, until it was finally time...

The day of the Cell Games, the tournament to decide the human race's fate, had arrived.

Goku was the first to fight Cell, but he unexpectedly backed down. Goku then appointed his son, Gohan, to fight Cell...

I've got to put you down. All of you!

An intense flash of rage unleashed Gohan's true power, which completely overwhelmed Cell. Pushed to desperation's limit, Cell attempted to self-destruct, planning to take the planet with him! It seemed all was lost. Until...!

Goku whisked Cell away via Instant Transmission a split second before the explosion. In exchange for the Saiyan's life, Earth was spared. Cell was dead and gone. Or so everyone assumed...

Keh keh keh. Who did I hit?

Ah. Trunks.

The massive explosion had left Cell's core intact, from which he was able to regenerate his entire body. Now stronger than ever, the revived Cell wasted no time in disposing of Trunks. Next in the villain's sights was all of Earth and its inhabitants!

Tr... Trunks...

DAMN YOU!!!

Kamehame... HAAA!

The Kamehameha powered by Gohan and Goku's familial bond ripped through Cell, dissipating the villain's body with its massive searing wave.

Trunks was later revived using the power of the Dragon Balls. With the battle over, the warriors went their separate ways, with Goku in all of their hearts. And then...

Wow. Hard to believe...

After the battle in the past, Trunks was finally able to feel his father's love... Bidding his friends a final farewell, Trunks boarded the time machine and set off for his original era.

After saying his final farewells to his friends and father of the past, Trunks entered the time machine and returned to the future. In this world, the evil #17 and #18 were still very much at large...

I see. So Goku gave his life in the end...

But Gohan cleaned up after him. Good.

O-Of course he did! It's what I've been saying all along!

(So the Saiyan prince had a soft side, eh?)

(Heaven knows I hardly ever got a peek at it.)

The long, arduous battle of the past now behind him, Trunks was back at his mother's side. It was then that news of another android attack blared over the radio...

And now to bring peace to this world, too.

After all, I traveled to the past to meet Goku and the others for that very reason.

No more would the threat of Androids #17 and #18 plague Trunks' timeline. Days went by, until a span of three years had elapsed.

Whew.

Having survived the trials of their tumultuous timeline, Trunks and Bulma were at last able to savor true peace. And a lasting peace it was to be, no doubt, so long as Trunks was there to protect it.

Trunks returned to the past yet again, this time with a different mission: to inform his friends that he had successfully defeated the androids. A host of familiar faces greeted him.

Wow, Trunks! Nice going.

I'm so glad that peace has been restored in the future!

Hehe... There's going to be an Intergalactic World Tournament pretty soon.
