Chapter 1: Left to One's Own Devices

Woo! Done with classes for today!

I'm ready to head home and-

Unfortunately, that won't be happening.

What the?! Geez, don't scare me like that.

So? What did you want with me?

Were you listening to the teacher during homeroom when she was talking about the upcoming tests?

Oh, yeah. Something about exam week.

Right. So I prepared a workbook for you. You're going to solve all of these problems before the tests.

Huh?! Why do I have to?

We can't let Ichigo's grades fall while he's gone.

If there's anything you don't understand, we'll teach you. If you can solve all these questions, you'll be ready for the test!

You'll teach me? Alone with just the two of us?!

She never said that last part!

Well, I guess it would be bad if his grades go down and it becomes harder for me to go play.

I'll do what I can.

Huh? What's this supposed to mean? I don't get it.

I taught you that part earlier! Why do you forget things so quickly?!

You have the wrong equation in here too.

Oh, it looks like you made a mistake in this last problem as well.

Ughhhhh! Bahhhh!!!

This is never-ending!

I don't want to do this anymore! I quit!

Hey!

He ran away! We have to catch him!

Dammit! Let me go!!!

Stop thrashing around.

How am I supposed to finish that huge pile of work?!

And you want me to answer them correctly? That's impossible!

I know it might be tough, but...

Are you sure you're going to be okay with that?

What do you mean?

Let's say you don't study and you fail the exam.

In that case, you'll have to retake those tests and attend afterschool sessions. Depending on the course, you might have assignments as well.

If Ichigo doesn't come back before that, you'll be the one doing the retakes, the afterschool classes, and the assignments.

Oh.

If you actually want to spend the entire time studying, then I won't stop you.

Gr... Dammit!
